Acer Aspire E1-531-4836 :: Right Side Of Keyboard Not Working
Feb 11, 2015I am trying to troubleshoot a E1-531-4836 model laptop, the right handside from the 9 does not work. So Num Lock and number pad etc does not work. The touchpad does not work well either. I can plug a USB keyboard and mouse in and they seem to work for the most part. Sometimes I can not bring up the charms etc with the USB mouse. then I have to hit the space bar on the laptop keyboard,and I then can use the USB mouse to bring up charms. I tried updating drivers and restoring to original settings. Did not fix my problem.

Feb 11, 2015I am trying to troubleshoot a E1-531-4836 the Right hand side of the keyboard has stopped working, and the touchpad does not respond properly either. I tried reloading drivers, a system reset, and I am left with the same problem. I have plugged a USB mouse and keyboard in, and I can sort of use the computer, I can not get all functions to work completely.

Mar 11, 2009I've had my MBP for about 4 month now and have been having problems with its keyboard since I bought it. First, the "Z" key sank in (I think there was a problem with the spring). I took it to the Apple Store, and they "fixed" on the spot (it's much harder to press and only registered a key press 70% of the time). The lower right corner of the "E" has noticeably sunk in, and I need to resort to pressing the upper left corner. Also, the left side of the keyboard feels "mushy", not hugely so, but definitely noticeable after typing a few sentences. Can I request that Apple just replace the entire keyboard instead of just individual keys?

Acer :: Can 32bit Vista Home Premium Be Installed Side By Side With 64bit
Dec 23, 2008I have recently bought acer aspire 6920 with vista home premium (OEM) preinstalled 64bit version. I have made recovery dvd discs from erecovery option for factory defaults.
I have two questions:
1: will Acer provide recovery discs free of cost if requested.
2: Will I be able to install vista home premium 32bit version on D drive from a retail version I have, side by side with 64bit on C drive. Shall be thankful if someone can clarify with procedure for item 2 since I am not very familiar with notebooks working.

Acer :: Aspire 5500 Stuck END Key Even When Keyboard Detached
Jan 24, 2009I have an ACER Aspire 5500 which I think someone must have spilt some substance on the keyboard. I have cleaned the motherboard and components and have been able to get it to work again. However the following occurs:-
When booting up when the ACER screen apears the laptop starts BEEPing continuously. If I bash the keys around the arrows and Right Shift and END key section it stops beeping then proceeds to start windows. Everything works OK except whenever I try to open files I noticed the last file is always highlited. When I try to open other files it always opens the last highlited file. I noticed when I opened Microsoft word that on the bottom right hand corner the word END was constantly flashing as if the key was being held down.
I removed the keyboard and left an external keyboard plugged in but the same problem still occured.
Dell Studio 1535 :: Fan Runs At Maximum Speed When Control Media Panel Plugged In
Jan 12, 2015I have changed my dell studio 1535 motherboard after ordering a refurbished one from dell. When reconnecting all the parts, everything worked well except the control media button <Previous Track> which was lighting up by itself from time to time.
I unplugged the media control panel, plugged it up again. This time the media panel is lighting up intermittently and the laptop cooler is at maximum. Unplugged again, a cable pin was short circuited and got broken in the process :(.
Fixed the cable, now the media control panel is completely down and the cooler runs at maximum speed. Removing the media panel fixes the cooler issue.
As I am not an expert into this, I was wondering if changing the panel will fix my problem or the faulty connection could have broken the motherboard control panel circuit.
PS. When running diagnostic via F12 key, no faulty issue is detected.

Sep 5, 2011Recently my laptop suddenly shrunk the display down to 1024x768, even in BIOS and when starting up. In Windows, the monitor is recognized as "Digital Flat Panel, 1024x768, 60Hz". Here is a photo I took with my mobile phone:

Sony :: SZ750- Keyboard Is Sticking Out From The Right Hand Side
Jan 8, 2009The keyboard is sticking out from the right hand side...So I can literally lift it up from the lap top using my finger.
Also the lap top doesn't stay balanced sitting on a table. It rocks back forth as if one of eraser pads underneath is bigger than the other. But that's not the case after I examined it..
I've only had it for 5 months and today is the first day I noticed these things...It's never been dropped or anything with light use.
I have the extended warranty, I wonder if its covered.
Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Space Bar Sensitivity On Y510P Keyboard Is Not Consistent On Right 1/3 Side Of Key
Jun 23, 2011I am finding that the space key sensitivity on my new Y510P is not consistant, and that I have to really press down on the key for it to work, and despite this it does not always work. I have to go back then and correct where the spaces where not added. I tend to use the space bar with my right thumb clicking on the right 1/3 side of the space bar. When I use other keyboards including other Lenovo laptop products and this has not been a problem.

Aug 5, 2009I bought Sony FW490 with full hd screen (1920x1080) but after hearing so much about wonderful RGB LED display on Dell, I got one from Dell outlet and now I can compare them both side by side and send one back. To my surprise Sony's screen is a tad brighter,
white color is white and red is very accurate too, on Dell screen is dimmer (on full brightness) red is more brownish and white is yellow-greenish.
I was reading this forum for a few months and almost everybody says that RGB screen is very bright, that one can use it on half brightness, but that is not the case with my SXPS16.
Acer Aspire 5552-5898 :: Not Always Booting And Motherboard Won't Hold Date
Nov 30, 2014I have a 4 year old Aspire 5552-5898 which is having issues ....
First issue is that the Laptop doesn't always boot. When this happens, the power button will light, the fan will spin, the HDD will start, but the screen stays black. Sometimes the PC will restart but the same thing will happen. Usually when this happens, if you hold down the power button, the laptop will power down, only to start up again. The only way to end this cycle is to unplug the machine and pull out the battery. Also of note this seems to happen 100% of the time if the machine is not plugged in, and about 50% of the time when it is.
The next issue occurs when the machine does actually boot. I HAVE to enter the bios because it never holds the date. I thought this could be a CMOS battery issue, but even after replacing that, the problem persists. After entering the date, and saving and exiting, the machine will boot into windows just fine.
Dell :: Studio 1735, Keyboard Lag/stuck In WoW/Games
Oct 5, 2008I've been trying to play WoW on my new Studio 1735, but I'm having issues with the Keyboard. If I, for example, press the "S" key, hold it and hit the "A" key next (do this very fast a couple of times) the keys will get stuck and I see my character going left all the time until I hit the "A" key once more.
This also happens with any of the directonial keys.
Is anyone else having this problem here? I've been browing the Dell Comunity forums and I'm not alone with this one. I've seen this "bug" reported on Windows XP/Vista and even Linux systems, so I'm guessing it's a BIOS issue.
I haven't found a solution yet, so if anyone has one, I'm allready running the latest A04 Bios.
Dell Inspiron 1501 :: Stuck Key Detected - Even With Keyboard Removed
Apr 12, 2010I've got a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop. When I switch it on it produces the most deafening series of beeps. The Dell Diagnostics CD says:
Error Code 2C00:041D Stuck Key Detected
Keyboard is Continuously transmitting a scan code 31h
It would appear that the left cursor key is stuck, as the only way I can get into windows (using an external keyboard) is to type my password backwards! instead of 'password' I type 'drowssap' The cursor is constantly moving left so by typing the password backwards it comes out the right way round. I took the cover off and disconnected & removed the keyboard and trackpad. But the problem persists: it seems this key is constantly transmitting, even without the keyboard!!
I've cleared the CMOS, left it unplugged without power, battery, CMOS Battery for 3 days. I've flashed the BIOS, changed the Memory. Still the same problem. Keyboard has been disconnected all this time, but getting this constant Key signal.Where is it coming from if the keyboard is disconnected?

Jul 30, 2009I have a Vostro 1700 with Vista installed. When I got it I didn't want the Dell Mediadirect softare on there so reinstalled with those partitions removed and just Vista on there.
I also tried installing Windows XP to see how that worked on it; XP installed fine and worked well, but I had the problem that if I touched the Media Direct button it could knacker up the whole XP installation. Obviously,
I couldn't resist trying, and low and behold, when I pressed the button my XP installation was corrupted! (my original thread on it was here - New Vostro 1700 laptop! Why are there four partitions, and can I get rid of them?!)
I've really not liked Vista, and do want to get Windows 7 on the Vostro, but what I want to make sure before I pay out for Windows 7 is that I'm not going to have the same problem with that damn Media Direct button .....

i'm guessing that its the RGB backlit display i'm expecting. its NOT the covet model.. and I didn't go with the E2E because I wanted more of a matte display..
My other question is:.. is it just me or does the LCD Housing seems to be very flimsy and has lots of flex when lifted from the corners..

Aug 26, 2010My X200 laptop appears to have a mistake in its keyboard. When the machine is starting up, I see the following message right after the Bios screen:

And also when I am using it, the computer sometimes show the thing like when we click on right button of the mice, even I do not touch the laptop.
When I replace other keyboard ( from other X200), the laptop work perfectly.

Laptop is a few months out of warranty so a repair by Acer isn't an option (if it is a hardware error).
Dell :: D420 ZIF Won't Hold HDD Cable
Oct 29, 2009I'm upgrading my Toshiba MK3008GAL hdd to a MK8025GAL. The Toshiba HJ178 Flex Cable will not clamp tight in the new drive and now won't clamp tight back in the old drive either. The laptop does not see the new drive OR the old drive if I put it back in.
The ZIF connectors seem to work in that they flip up (open) and down (closed) as they're supposed to. In the old drive the cable was tight when I first removed it.
I've tried taping the cables down in both drives, and inserting paper in with the top of the cable to make a snug fit. Still neither drive is recognized.
I've ordered a replacement cable (used) in case I've mangled the old one, but still the old one should fit tight.

Oct 26, 2009I had the HDX16 on my shortlist for a new laptop but in all of the recent announcements by HP on refreshed Pavilions and new Envy laptops, the HDX has been conspicuous by it's absence. No information at all and I can still only see it available in Win Vista format from retailers, not Win 7. what the future holds for HDX? It looks like a good choice for a general multimedia laptop. Any refresh or updates planned? Or are HP likely to discontinue it?

Apr 8, 2013My 2 year old spilled juice on my new laptop about 3 weeks ago, and now when I power it on it goes to the boot screen, the blue bar doesn't finish loading and it turns off. Ok, today I was just trying things. It's 3 buttons at the top right of the laptop, if I hold the middle one the computer will boot, stay on and I can do everything as normal. But if I let that button go, it turns right off.
