Acer :: Upgrading Hardware And Factory Reset Disks
Jul 26, 2009
A quick shout-out to those who upgraded their hardware--especially the GPU.. Have you used your factory reset disks after upgrading your hardware? Or do you have to switch in the default ones before using the recovery?

I am trying to perform a factory reset for a Acer laptop but I cannot find an option that I am looking for.
I hit ALT + F10 at bootup and I get to the eRecovery Management screen.
From here, I get two choices:
1. Restore system to factory default.
2. Restore system from CD/DVD
As, I do not have any DVDs, I choose option 1. After that, the recovery process continues without any more prompts and restores the laptop to its default settings.
Here is the problem but. The laptop has a 120GB Had drive which after factory reset is split into 2 partitions of 55GB each with the remaining 10GB for the hidden recovery partition. Thus there is 3 partitions in total.
As it is Vista Premium, C: is already 50% full straight after the factory reset.
Is there any way I can perform the reset and have an option to just have one C drive of 110GB? I did not see any such option when performing the reset by using ALT + F10. There doesn't seem to be an option for this when performing the reset from within Windows itself.
I was thinking maybe deleting the D partiton before performing the reset may help but I am not 100 percent sure as I am not sure if the factory image contains 1 or 2 partitions.

I bought Acer Aspire Switch 10 SW5-012-16GW Detachable 2 in 1 Touchscreen Laptop (64GB) windows 8.1 on 11/30/201 from Amazon.
After two days, I could not get on internet anymore due to some proxy server errors. I also noticed there were many junkies installed.
So, I would like to have a complete clean up by resetting it to factory defaults. The Amazon box did not come with any system CD.

Just purcased Aspire E1-510-2611 - 64 bit, Windows 8.1 - as it was set up in store as display model it appears to be in "Display Mode" - with account already entered, etc. How do I reset to factory defaults so that when I turn it on it is just like turning it on for the first time or is there a better way to get back to the "just out of the box" condition?

I just inherited a Dell Inspiron 1440 running Windows Home 7, which has been very lightly used, but has enough additional stuff installed, that "sluggish" is the only appropriate word for its performance. I want to do a Factory Reset. The directions written on page 58-59 of the paper Setup Guide are incorrect.
1. Turn on computer.
2. Press F8 to get Advanced Boot Options
3. Select Repair Your Computer
4. Go to Systems Recovery Options
5. Click "Dell Factory Image Restore" THIS OPTION DOES NOT EXIST.
Instead, I am shown "Startup Repair" "System Restore" "System Image Recovery" "Windows Memory Diagnostic" and "Command Prompt" NONE OF THESE is what I am looking for.Choosing "System Restore" gives me a bunch of restore points from the last 9 months only, and not the original factory settings.Choosing "System Image Recovery" is not appropriate either, as the previous owner did not create a system image backup.

i have a 2008 Dell XPS M1330 laptop that i wish to restore to factory settings. i have saved/copied/transferred any/all files i wish to save.
i have searched (google, you tube, dell.com, forums, support) for the answer and all i find is suggested use of pressing F8 during start up. when i choose 'repair my system" , windows just loads normally.
the only seemingly 'recovery' disk i can locate says:
DRIVERS AND UTILITIES Already installed on your computer/For reinstalling Dell xps m1330 computer software. it also says: contents: device drivers/diagnostics and utilities.
i want to 'wipe the slate clean' and start the computer fresh now that i have a new xps8700. if i use this disk to which i refer, will it do what i am wanting? the computer works fine, but i'm afraid of screwing something up trying to just clean it up and back to original condition.

I have an HP 2000-2b89WM Product code C2M42UA#ABA that has failed to complete the factory reset. The 1st time it sort of worked from the recovery partition, to windows 8, then during the update process to get 8.1 it failed to install one of the updates and rolled them all back. It would not install any updates after that point.
I tried to do the reset again but it would not run. I tried the DVD's but they wouldn't get past either 14 or 16 percent. I created the backup set on a USB drive from an identical laptop, bought at the same time. The restore from the USB seemed to be working but now the computer acts like it's booting, flashes a screen for about 4 seconds with a box with the time setting and reboots. I cannot access the recovery console or any boot options. It is stuck in this loop with no seeming end.
How to get it out of this loop and restore from the USB again?

Inspiron 15 running Win7. After cleaning FBI virus, Windows 7 would start to boot then quickly go to BSOD 7b error. Tried Startup Repair many times. Toggled SATA Operation in BIOS to both ATA and AHCI. Imaged the disk, and did a Factory Restore via Startup Repair in AHCI mode then tried again in ATA.. I get the same exact error every time. I am pretty sure that the virus messed with one of the other partitions that is required to boot. I assume that I could order a CD and reinstall, but a way to repair this error.

I have a "HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-n005eo Ultrabook" running windows 8.1. This last Friday my computer got stuck and when I tried to reboot it said that something was wrong with windows and gave me the alternatives to fix it. I first tried to backup trough the program but got a Bluescreen (System thread exception not handled (iaStorA.sys). I then tried to just restore the Windows part (not effecting my files) but I got Blue screen. I then moved on to a full system reset (with my recover DVD that I fortunately had made just a couple of days before the crash) but after completed all 5 discs the computer rebooted and told that the system restore wasn't completed so I tried again, but I got the same problem.
The last thing I have tried is to make a factory reset and now (after the 5 disc) it started to reboot and a information that told that HP software were about to get installed came up. I left the computer to finish the install and when I checked later on it was turned of so i turned on the PC and after the message "Wait" I got Blue screen again (System thread exception not handled (iaStorA.sys)) and the same happens when I restart the computer.

I have been given an Acer 6930G by a family member to setup. After realising there's 0 discs included with the laptop, the Acer pop up message tells me I have to make my own factory default image. I have successfully made it on 2 DVDs, my question is now in the manual there is nothing about how to use it, I was wondering if anyone can share any insight to me as to how it works.
Basically I know it is probably a bootable DVD as the root of the DVD suggests (several "BOOT" files) I was wondering how it actually looks like? I haven't tested it yet as the user was extremely desperate to get it running so I had to give it up the moment the DVDs were made.
If I put the DVD in and select to boot from it at start up (before getting into windows) does it take me to some sort of custom screen where I can SELECT that I want to reformat and restore the laptop? I want to know what options I am given and I can only assume that it's the same for most laptops.
And I can only assume again, that if I factory restore it, it will come back with Vista activated and all the initial bloatware again, along with all the drivers for it (so I don't need to go track them down).
This is all I need to know, I wish I can test it but I can't even get the laptop back now (until it breaks ...)
If someone can post their experiences with it I will be grateful, this is just more for reassurance than anything, and confirm my assumptions? Many thanks in advance!
EDIT: I have discovered that I can launch that recovery app by pushing ALT+F10, I have managed to wrangle the laptop temporarily to test and have discovered that I can choose from 2 back up options, but I dare not go any further, can someone tell me the next steps? One says factory default, and the other is user's backup.
I can guess that if I choose the first option, factory default, it'll ask for the DVDs I have created? And the 2nd option will restore a backup I made selecting the user option on the recovery app.

I have a pavilion dv7-6b50ei notebook pc bought 2012. It always gives a command prompt pop up which doesn't stay long enough to read. I also felt there's a virus on it which my anti-virus couldn't solve so I tried factory resetting but when I restart and press F11 it gives an error(something like a boot.. is missing). so I tried my recovery discs. Disc 1 of 4 ran fine but disc 2 keeps stopping with an error.
Now the laptop doesn't load as I think the OS has been formatted during the recovery and don't know what to do. I feel disc 2 is bad too because it also gave an error while trying to copy it to a USB pen drive. I have also tried an external dvd and run the hp test on the hard drive; the hard drive passed the test. If I can get a new set of recovery discs, it would solve my problem.

My Acer 5610 had a "Supervisor Password" entered, I believe by my grandson two years ago. I noticed it once, didn't know how go get in so never did. Recently had a bad day. Used what I had for a restore back a few days, nothing worked.
I have the two Recovery Disk I made the day I bought this. Never used them. I can't get the disk to take hold and restore to Factory. I get a message I'm going to try to attach. It's not clear. What is stumping me is the last entry. "[ /NoExecute=Option]" That is the bottom. On the bar at the bottom is "ENTER=Submit" I've tried every thing I know to do.
I've learned to use the PC on my own as I live many miles from a city. Done fair but now I'm stumped. By the way I'm 75 years of age. My learning term as been more than 7 years.

I have a bit older Acer Extensa 4620Z - quite a while back (probalby 9 months) i had problems with it and it stopped working, couldnt find operating system or hard drive. I finnally decided to buy a new hard drive for it once i found out it was that the hard drive had died. I got my new seagate harddrive and installed it - I also order recovery disks from Acer so I could get my system back up and running.
This is where my problem is. I can see the harddrive from bios and at first when i tried running the recovery disks it kept saying there was no appropriate partition. I made a bootable copy of a program so I could create partitions on the harddrive. I did this and then tried running the recovery disks. This time it went further and started the recovery process but everytime it gets to D1E4T303.044 in the process (at 47%) - it stops... and sits there a second and then either jumps to 100% and starts over or an error pops up (error: 0xD000001D).
I can not figure out where to go from here - isn't there some way I can use the recovery disks to get my system up and running on the new hard drive?
