if there is a way I can put Activity Monitor information on the top bar so I can easily see cpu and ram usage and such. I can't find it anywhere and I'm finding it hard to believe that it doesn't exist...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased an external monitor recently so I can extend my Lenovo U410 IdeaPad's display. The monitor connects to my laptop via an HDMI cable. The problem is, nothing from my laptop is displayed on the external monitor.
The external monitor is still left with a black screeen with either the HDMI and Analog symbol flickering back and forth on the top left corner, or a box that shows "Check Signal Cable" with red, green, and blue boxes below.
On Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Display>Screen Resolution, I can see that the external monitor is detected: I have the external monitor as Display 2, and I have "Multiple displays:" set at "Extend these displays"I know that the monitor is not broken, because it works as an external monitor for my MAC (via HDMI cable as well) ....
My problem is that when you turn on the laptop. My monitor shows no signs nor there is activity on the hard disk. I tried to remove the ram,hdd,bios battery,connect it to a tv with hdmi and still no sign of life.
I think it may be corrupt bios. Steps?
I have an Hp Pavilion Enternainment PC (HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC), 64bit, Windows 7, Service Pack 1. The pc is integrated with a HP xb4 Notebook Media Docking Station and a HP 2509m flat screen monitor. Unless I have turned the volume completely off, I continually get a volume icon (showing the current volume setting) intermittently displaying in the center of the flat screen monitor. I am unable to move it to any other location on the flat screen display or to the pc monitor.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPast few months my 9300 with the 100gb 5400RPM drive has been laggin like crazy due to lots of harddrive activity. Sometimes it feels like I'm running a pentium 2. I always thought it's because I didn't have much free space (8-15gb) but I recently cleared it down to like 35GB free and have set a defragmentation every night at 4am. I use diskkeeper for that. It hasn't really gotten that much better...
I think I will do a "boot-time" defragmentation to totally defragment, but what else should I check?
Running 2gb ram with 1gb paging file, windows xp pro, up to date.
So I returned a VAIO Z not too long ago b/c the fan was intolerably noisy due to the fact that it was always blowing.
However, in looking for a new laptop, I just can't seem to find anything similar to a VAIO in terms of looks/portability/battery life

I know that I can go to display preferences and select which screen has the bar but what I'd like to do is have say Photoshop on one screen with its bar and InDesign on the other with its own bar. Is this not possible?
I'm on the lookout for external monitors (20-24" WS) that work well with MBPs (13" 2.53 model in particular). I'm leaning away from Apple Cinema Displays (due to their lack of support for non-Apple computers which I own. Pl. correct me if I'm wrong in doing so).
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've hooked my Macbook Pro 15" to an external Dell monitor, keyboard and mouse and everything seems to be working fine - I can put the laptop to 'sleep', then wake it up via the external keyboard and then use the external monitor as the main monitor with the laptop screen 'asleep'.
All working fine, but only when I'm using the power adapter. If I try and run from just the battery the laptop keeps going back to sleep. It 'wakes', but after a couple of seconds goes back to sleep.
I'm having an Acer Aspire 4736Z which is cannot boot.
When I power on it there's power light but screen blank. No HDD activity.
And I copy Bios files to my Transcend thumbdrive and enter BIOS recovery mode by pressing FN+ESC, the whole screen turn white and fan running fast! But power light no blink, Thumbdrive no power and activity.

what's the best way to hook it up to my HP w2408h Monitor.
The monitor has Digital (HDMI with HDCP) and Analog (15-pin D-sub VGA) inputs. What adapter would I need to get from Apple to get the best possible picture.
Also, I have a 37" Panasonic Vierra TV, it also has HDMI input but my MBA doesn't, the TV does have a VGA port, is there a way I can connect to my TV with one cable a get both video and sound.
When I run my uMB on battery, I can't seem to run an external monitor on it. Is this normal?

The one I am looking at is the cheaper mini display to dvi-d, from what I have gathered it does not support a res higher than 1920x1200 and will not support a dvi to vga port, but what I am really worried about is will it support a dual monitor set up (one screen the laptop screen and a standard other screen that does not have a higher resolution.
So will I be fine with that port of do I have to buy the really expensive one to do so all these reviews have me really confused.

Well, technically it's 23.6''...But I noticed the resolution is 1920 x 1080, meaning it is 16:9. I know my MBP has a resolution of 1440x900 making it 16:10. I understand that most widescreen TV's use 16:9, however widescreen laptops use 16:10. Will connecting a 16:9 external monitor to my Macbook Pro have any problems?
I've got a Macbook core 2 duo, 2.2GHz (late 2007). I'm looking at some 19" Dell monitors under $200 (S1909WXF and E2009W). I notice that they have 24 pin DVI, but the Macbook has 16 pin mini DVI out. Is this a problem? Are there 24 pin to 16 pin cables?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI own a Dell Studio 15 and I saw that the hard drive led keeps blinking at about 1 blink / second even when the computer is absolutely doing nothing.
Also I can hear some noise (I suppose it is the hard disk moving) from about 50 cm distance from the laptop.
This happens with Vista, XP, Linux (I tried some distribution: Mandriva, X/K/Ubuntu, PcLinux, Mint...)
Has anybody experienced this strange behaviour on his laptop ?

I own a Studio 1555 and i am having this peculiar problem with my onboard LAN connection. The LAN cable is connected to the NIC, yet it is displaying cable not connected. I need to reconnect the cable (remove it from the NIC and reconnect it) and it displays cable is connected and the connection ensues. Once i restart the machine, the same is displayed and i will have to reconnect the cable once again in order to get connected.
I do not want to reconnect the cable every now and then, when i reboot the laptop..
I just happened to notice it. Is this a sign of falty memory? What gives? Here is a picture

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP (32 bit) on Bootcamp on my 2008 MBP with nvidia 8600m GT graphichs card. I cannot select my external monitor to be the primary monitor because it's grayed-out (I can't select it where it says 'use this monitor as my primary monitor').
I just went onto nvidia's website and downloaded the latest drivers and installed them. No difference. Anyone know how I can achieve this?
I am trying to figure out if my video card has gone bad on my 6400 and wanted to know if can be replaced. I have a nvidia 7200 256 mb gpu.. I am running into a problem where my screen just goes black in the middle of everything. The problem also occurs when hooking the laptop up to a monitor. Initially I thought I had a bad inverter board and bad video drivers, both have been replaced but the problem still persist. I ran the diagnostics and the screen went black during the video check. I have to reboot the pc to get the screen back on then the problem happens again.
Can the video card be replaced on the 6400?
Updated the bios in a Aspire 7740g from version 1.15 to 1.16 but with poor result. It flashed everything correctly, but when rebooting, nothing... Black screen.
The fan starts and stops after a few seconds, led's indicating that it's "alive", and I've tried the crisis recovery tool with bios 1.15 or 1.16. First with USB-drive (tried all ports), then on a CD-R. No sign of activity on the USB, but the CD-R spins up, head reading and can hear it working for 30-60 sec., rebooting, but then - nothing.
I have tried all key-commands, suggested on the net. Win+ESC, Win+B, Fn+ESC, Fn+B, but - nothing. (Power off, plug and battery removed, hold keys down, power connected and power on.....)
The battery is dead and removed, but it doesn't seem as it matters anyway?
What kind of bios does this Aspire have? Any other key-commands I should try? It seems as the Recovery Boot Block is there somehow, as the CD/DVD-drive spins up and sounds as it's working.
