Dell :: NVIDIA Quatro NVS 135M Video Card Crashes
Sep 30, 2009I use a Latitude D630 with an NVIDIA Quatro NVS 135M video card. I generally run my computer with dual screen support using an additional monitor.
Last week, I returned to my computer to find the image looking all scrambled, the resolution low, looking like it was in safe mode. It said there was a problem with the display driver and needed to restart.
I restarted, everything seemed to boot up normally, but as I would perform operations in Windows, the screen started to mess up and the machine would lose display or freeze completely (I still can't tell which it did).
After continually having to manually turn off and boot my machine, at one point at startup it mentioned that the volume on the C drive was dirty and needed to do some clean up. It took a few minutes, but then booted normally. I'm not sure what happened there .....

My specifications:
Intel Core i7 -3630QM 2.4 GHz
Windows 8 x64
8 GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4000 (integrated)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660m - not overclocked, (current driver: 327.23)
So the problem is that every time I try to play a 3D-dense game, after around 5 minutes of playing, the game freezes, then the screen goes black and the only thing I can do is to close it (though the problem appears to vary depending on game I'm playing). After ~3 seconds I was forced to close it, the message appears: "Display driver has stopped working and has successfully recovered" + something about NVidia Kernel Driver.
The interesting thing is that a game still "runs" despite showing the blackscreen (e.g. I can hear sounds of scrolling through game menu or other in-game noises/music). Mybe it has something to do with DirectX?
Like I said, the problem may vary depending on game, in most cases I have to do the things I wrote above, but here are the exceptions:
Skyrim: the least problematic - after the blackscreen I can Alt-TAB and return to the normal game (though the game tends to have a bit too rough camera moving after that)
Mass Effect 3: the most problematic - my computer auto-restarts just a moment after the game freezes, and I have to wait for some recovery or something.
I tried to solve that problem in such ways:
-clean install" of the most recent nVidia drivers (including BETA ones) and Intel drivers (for integrated GPU - just in case...)
-adding Tdr
-Delay registry key (one of the official solutions of that problem for Windows Vista/Seven users)
-lowering by 1 MHz core clock and memory clock (by MSI Afterburner) while playing games
-changing power management from Adaptive to Maximum Performance in nVidia control panel
-changing Main PhysX Processor from Auto to GTX 660M (by nVidia control panel)setting Power Throttle On by nVidia Inspector - Profile Settings
-running games in windowed mode
1, 4, and 5'th solution didn't work for me
3'rd one seems to be useful a bit
6'th - I believe it worked alot in prolonging time before crash
2'nd and 7'th - I'm still not sure about them

Jun 29, 2009My XPS M1330 is about a year old, I run windows XP, and I use the copper mod since it used to overheat when playing games. It's been perfectly fine for the last few months though.
Recently, sometimes when I try to play a video file or open specific programs (so far, photoshop and certain games) the screen turns bizarre colors and then quickly crashes .....

Apr 14, 20101.I really didn't find much info on the (now not so) new white unibody Macbooks, expect some items for sale. And please, don't tell me that just buy the aluminum model for the extra $200, my question is strictly from an engineering point of view: heat. We all know aluminum Macbooks are quite hot, right? But how does the white unibody compares to the aluminum regarding heat issues?
2.What might be the reason that the whole bottom of the white unibody contcts the table beneath it, compared to the aluminum model, which has four rubber contact points on the four corners?
3.On the other thread I read a dedicated graphics card does not really add to battery consumption. Can you confirm that?
My main usage profile is office, web and seeing (HD, if available) Youtube videos. This one is rather a 15" vs. 13" Pro question, and half hypothetic. Let's say, all things are being equal on two models, the processor none the least, the only differences are one model has the integrated Nvidia, the other the integrated Intel plus discreet Nvidia combo, which one would serve me better, regarding performance and battery life? The discreet graphics would at least turn on when playing the HD videos?
4.Running native Windows (7 or XP) still suck on Macbooks, because of the drivers?
Apple :: Safari Crashes And FF Won't Format Correctly
Feb 4, 2009I've been having major problems browsing the internet lately. Safari won't stay open for more than 2 minutes without crashing and Firefox will half the time not format web pages correctly. For example, as I'm typing this in FF right now, in my tool bar up above this text box I have the boxes with bold, italics and underline options showing, but I can't select them. Even worse, the rest of where boxes should be just have text, for example it says Align Left, Align Center and Align Right instead of having selectable boxes. What is up with my browsers?

Dell :: Windows 7 RC Crashes In Sleep Mode On M1330
May 3, 2009Is anyone else out there running Windows 7 RC that just came out?(please don't whine about the fact this isn't production software, I work in IT and i purposefully installed this to start tinkering).
Whenever I close the lid on my m1330 and it goes in to sleep mode when I open it later I find it is turned off.
When i turn it on it boots up and says windows shut down unexpectedly and give me the safe mode prompts, etc
Acer :: 5672WLMi Bluetooth Crashes Windows Vista
Jul 22, 2007I Just upgraded my 5672 to Windows Vista with a clean installation, installed all drivers from Acer's site. When I am using skype with bluetooth headset (Samsung WEP200) it crashes my computer to a blue screen does a memory dump and reboots. This happens every time after about 10-20 minutes of skype usage. Everything else seems to work fine for hours on end.
Secondly I still have an unknown device in device manager after installing all the drivers from Acers site, anyone know what device that could be?

Aug 28, 2011I have installed Windows 8 on a HP dv6-6096 nr which I purchased in may 2011. I did an upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium. Every time, I hightlight control panel, the machine reverts back to the desktop. How do I fix this?
I thave updated my video drivers. I an't tell waht other devices are not usiable in Windows 8.
I figured that I can go a clean install and all should work but I don't know if I can re-install under Windows 8.
Here is an update:The HP dvd6-6096nr used NON-STANDARD function which folks at HP, Microsoft and Microcenter have been made aware of. So the ways to get into Safe mode, Shift F8 is the easy way. For me, that doesn’t work. Using Windows key +x, lets me run msconfig.Using msconfig and booting into safe mode, action center tells me that I need to install 3 drivers: (Intel Bluetooth wireless driver, HP power management and Intel wireless display). Those were installed.I rebooted the machine, Control panel still crashes.Rebooted into safe mode, action center still shows that I need to install these 3 drivers.Since Microsoft makes it nearly impossible to boot windows to update drivers, that is where I am at. My choice is (1) install Windows 8 (not upgrade) or forget about Windows 8. The problem is (1) will Windows 8 re-activate and if other licensed software will re-install?

Lately if I power up this machine and play something in Windows Media Player, the system crashes. The whole screen goes squiggily and out of focus.

Dell Inspiron 3520 :: Running Windows 8.1 Crashes Without Warning Frequently
Dec 1, 2013It has occurred to me that there's an issue with either my Dell Inspiron 3520 Laptop Computer or my Windows 8.1/Windows 8 OS. Occasionally, running the computer (sometimes when it's overheating or just when unplugging the laptop), the computer just crashes, i.e. Screen goes black, power light and HDD light stays on for a about 2 seconds before powering off. No blue screen, no warning, no updates. There's was no reason for it to go off, but it did. It's frustrating because:
1.) When I'm working/playing a game/hosting a multi-player server, the computer tends to crash in the middle of it causing my work to go to waste.
2.) I believe it will damage my laptop and cause further problems in the future
I've researched a bit about this issue before and people have said that it's due to overheating, but I have proven that this is not the case for me as I have placed my PC beside a fan where it kept a steady temperature of about 50-65 Degrees Celsius and I've still faced the issue.

HP Pavilion G7 OS/Software :: Windows 7 Crashes To Blue Screen When Try To Update Skype
Jun 5, 2014I have the HP- Pavilion g7 Notebook and have not had any problems until I was getting a Blue Screen of death after an update of Skype got on my computer. I had to do a system recovery several times until I found out this is a problem apparently caused by skype, now skype wants to update again and windows7 doesn't like it at all, the machine crashes again. Last resort, I downloaded an older verson of skype which works fine but in the long run doesn't solve the problem. If there is a fix what is it, I have not gotten any suggestions from skype, to get this resolved. The only thing I hear it might be related to some driver that has not been updated. What can I do?

Apple :: MBP 2007 No Video
May 16, 2010Yesterday, everything was running smoothly. My MBP was churning away running Fusion with an instance of XP, nothing too major. Today though, the video is out completely. I can't even get to the option menu on bootup to get it to switch to a Boot Camped Windows 7 (the boot up screen doesn't even show). So... what do I do now? The warranty is out. Am I out of luck? Any tricks I can try? I do plan on taking it to the nearby Apple store to see what they can do. I vaguely remember hearing something about the NVidia chips burning out, but the thing is I wasn't doing anything graphics intensive to begin with.
I even thought I might have dimmed the screen all the way, but using the keyboard to brighten it up didn't solve it. It wouldn't work anyway since even the boot screen doesn't show anything (not even the grey screen).

Nov 16, 2009I am ready to purchase a new MBP that I will use all day long with hotcomm voice and picture chat, email, powerpoint, word, excel,browsing, and a professional stock trading application called realtick that will run through vm ware or parallels and skype. This will not be my only computer but it is the one I would like to use the most. I am sensitive to heat problems and am considering the 2.4 processor because I have it in my head that it may run cooler. I recently used a thinkpad, (i know not a direct comparison), with a t9300 and dedicated video and it was so hot it could______ fill in blanks... Ultimately the heat is what killed the motherboard so I would like to stay as cool as reasonable.
I am considering the refurbished 2.4 15" with the nvida 9600m GT and 9400m GPU's because I like the price. I also think I can get some value from the dedicated video on my stock charts, (but am really not sure). I do not want to outsmart myself and get the wrong thing. Would someone here with some experience maybe give me an opinion if I should be looking at the 2.53 15" without the switchable video. The heat is one issue, but the other is my realtick charting software that will have to run under windows xp that I am concerned about with regard to needing the stronger GPU.
Apple :: Why Can I Not Play HD Video

AMD Turion 2.1GHz proc
4GB DDR2 Ram
WD Scorp BLue 250GB HDD
A really good dedicated Graphics card, could play Civ 4 at fairly high settings, 1280x800 no problems.
Now I tried to play the ESiR rip of Saving Private Ryan, no juice.
I tried it in Win 7, nothing, I installed Win 7 RC1, still couldn't do it.
I'm talking a new installation, no software, just VLC.
NOW, the funny thing is my friend, on his Black Macbook (2.4GHz, 4GB ram, bad Intel Int GFX) can play blueray rips PERFECTLY, while doing a million other things.
SO I buy his laptop because he upgraded, install a fresh copy of OSX, and guess what? It still dosen't play (although the hardware is 1000x better than HP's) I don't understand why VLC uses ALL of my CPU, and when I close EVERYTHING, and restart finder 8 times because I can't close it, the thing still stutters. I can watch stuff, but it will freeze on a frame and stutter.
It's not just private ryan, I have Terminator 2, 3, 1, and a lot of other movies.
I've tried quicktime, Realplayer, Nice Player, VLC, WMP, ect.
My friend says it might be the MKV file container, because when he was playing them on his brand new uMBP, they went fine, but he couldn't skip through the video without it glitching (pause and unpause to shake off the 'blocks'). I've never really been able to skip through a video without it hanging or getting the 'blocks'. Even a 10mb AVI sometimes gives me issues. He said it was a bad rip because he couldn't freely 'scroll' through the video.
Could this be some hardware issue?
720P AVIs do seem fine, but everyone puts their stuff into MKV. I thought MKV was better than AVI.
If I convert these into H.264 or something, will that solve the problem?
