Apple :: Multi Touch Vs Mouse
Aug 16, 2009
I actually find it easier to use the multi touch compared to the mouse somehow, the touchpad is big so i can navigate as easily as with a mouse and the multitouch gestures make it so much better to use.
I was thinking of getting a mighty mouse but im not sure its worth it as apple gestures make navigateing so good. are the press buttons on the mighty mouse just 1 button or two.

Is there any chance the xps 1645 will have a multi-touch mouse pad anytime soon? I find that feature in the macs really cool. Since I'm about to buy a 1645, was just wondering if it was worth waiting sometime

Use MultiClutch to assign multi-touch gestures in almost any application in OS X!
Quote:
Basically, Multiclutch allows you to assign custom keyboard shortcuts in a given app to a given gesture. Want swipes to change tabs in Safari? Done. The same in iChat? Done. Want zoom-in to open emails in Mail, zoom-out to close windows in every app, and a swipe down to bring up Quicksilver? Done done done.
MultiClutch works by installing a simple input manager that catches gesture events, looks to see what shortcut you’ve defined for it in the frontmost app (if you haven’t defined anything, it behaves in the standard manner), and performs that shortcut. You use a System Preference Pane to customize gestures with an interface similar to the shortcut-customization table in the Keyboard & Mouse pane. You can ‘bind’ gestures in a given Cocoa app (due to the nature of input managers, Carbon apps are not supported) or globally.

My multi-touch works great in every way, except for the zooming thing like the iTouch...
When I put my fingers together and open it slowly the image go into FULL ZOOM and if I put them back together go to a complete ZOOM OUT...

So Apple told Google not to use multi-touch gestures in its Google Android phone and Google listened to them. The phone is capable of multitouch gestures, but Apple told Google not to use it to protect the iPhone.
Is Apple out of line? Are they Microsoft Jr.? Is Apple replaying the patenting of a GUI OS from the 1980s?
Apple is stifling innovation with these anti-competitive practices.

Apple will introduce a new iPhone in 2010 that will employ a touch-sensitive plastic back casing similar to the one used on the company's new Magic Mouse, one analyst has said.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Robert Chen with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said the new iPhone will go into production as early as April, and will be available to customers in June or July. He said the plastic back panel of the phone could have a touch-sensitive solid shell, much like on the Magic Mouse.
Indeed, Apple in recent years has described the benefits of touch-sensitive enclosures for future handheld devices in patent filings like the one made in July of 2006 entitled: "Electronic Device Having Display and Surrounding Touch Sensitive Bezel for User Interface and Control."
The new hardware could also include an updated version of the iPhone operating system, Chen said.
"Apple’s going to put a lot of innovation, not just on the hardware, but also on the software of the new iPhone," he told Bloomberg.......................

Get the driver from this thread:
New Synaptics Driver - Multitouch like Macbooks
I'm using 13.2.1.0 with my 1340 because the newer ones haven't worked. Next, navigate to the Device Settings tab, and click Settings. From there, the fun begins.
Go to Application Gestures, "Three Fingers Down," and select Configure. At that point, you'll need this command:
%windir%System32
undll32.exe dwmapi.dll #105
Copy that, select "Add" and paste it into the command text box. Name it Flip 3D or whatever you want, and select OK, OK, and click Apply. Now, make sure you have Three Finger Flick enabled. This will let you scroll between the applications that are running in Flip 3D. Once you get the hang of it, it's a very cool and easy way to get around. You know, or not. Whatever.

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 and installed the Dell Synaptic Drivers v13.2.2.2, I seem to have gained additional touchpad gestures.
Along with the original chiral-scroll and two-finger zoom I now have:
-two-finger scrolling (vertical and horizontal)
-three-finger forward/back for web browsers and the Windows image viewer
-rotate
-three-finger quick launch (holding three fingers down for 1 second opens notepad)
-momentum (I'm not sure if this one is new)

I have found out that the touch pad surface extends further than it should. I have a habit on leaning on my elbow,
when I have my laptop on my legs I put my elbow on the palm rests. I found out quickly though that if I lean on it I end up doing a multi touch zoom,
to start off with I thought my system was just being rubbish but then I tested it again and it worked fine after I took my elbow off.
This must mean that the touch surface extends further than the edge of the "touchpad",
I just wonder how far it actually goes and whether we could make use of it .

but still Win7 recognized most of the devices and I've tried to install the drivers for other OS,
most the installations were incomplete but somehow some of the multi-media buttons worked except for the AV MODE button

i'm having problems with my new acer v5 touchpad... i made a clean install of windows 8.1 and installed all the win 8.1 drivers from the acer support site. from the device id of my touchpad (ACPISYN1B71) i assumed that it is a synaptics model.
Â
the problem now: after installing several versions of the driver, even trying the alps and elantech versions, i could never manage to get multi-gesture settings in the settings windows from synaptics - there are only settings visible for right- and left-click. where are the multi-touch gesture options for windows 8?
Â
basic funtions work, like left click, two-finger right click and two-finger scrolling, but nothing is configurable and all the other gestures are not available.

I have dell inspiron duo 1090 with a multi touch screen suportted in windows 7, and the multi touch feature (right click with 2 fingers touch, zooming) used to work until I upgraded dell datasafe local backup to version 9.4.60 (after automatic reminder) and after this install the touch screen is working but the multi-tocuh functionality doesn't (although it was enabled in the windows settings) - no zooming or right click with 2 features touch, after I restored this software to version 9.4.51 the multi-touch is back to work, I checked this again and again to isolate the source of the problem and it really seems like a strange bug in datasafe 9.4.60.
How do I report this bug to dell so I could update the dell datasafe to an updated version but without loosing the multi-touch functionality.

I purchased a XPS 1530 2 weeks ago and my Alps touchpad mouse keeps freezing for 5 to 10 seconds.
But if I keep moving my finger around on the touchpad when the mouse/pointer freezes the mouse will continue to remain frozen, or partially move in little spurts, until I take my finger off the touch pad.
The freezing occurs maybe everything 15 minutes or so.
I have called Dell twice.
Downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the Chipset, video, Bios, and Alps touchpad.
I have read other XPS owners have had similar problems but I have never seen anyone post a fix .....

I have an Inspiron 14R N4110 (bought 6 months ago) and recently the touchpad has been going crazy everytime I am using the mouse. It flicks back and forth between abling and disabling the touchpad, so much that I am unable to use the mouse because it continually engages and disengages. Some times it can happen 30 times in 1 minute. I went into the mouse properties and disabled the touchpad altogether but it still keeps doing it. I have run the diagnostic from the Dell site and downloaded all the required drivers, but nothing is working.

I have tried all the other tips and driver downloads, removing battery, reloading drivers, sleep "wake up", all with temporary success. Acer says to refresh the computer, that does not work either. It is new with about 20 hours on it. I took the first machine back to retailer and same situation with the new machine.Â
Â
Clearly this is an issue with Acer notebook touchpads and at least in my case W8.1. That is why google is littered with search titles for acer touch pads not working.

I am trying to add songs into the multi-session MP3 CD I created with Toast 10 Titanium and I can't figure it out. I searched all over the net and I wasn't able to find an answer. Every time I try to add files my car only recognizes the new file. I used to do this with Nero when I had a Windows based laptop but I'm new to Toast.

I don't know why but I like the Mighty Mouse. I recently purchased the Bluetooth. I guess I enjoy the BT, trackball, and weight. It is a tad too stripped down (could really use forward/back buttons) and the side button seems to need a lot of pressure to activate. But overall I do seem to enjoy using it.

I am looking for a Bluetooth mouse for my MBP.
There is Apple Magic Mouse, but I am still not sure on its ease and usability. Even though I need it for my notebook I dont want the very small notebook mice, since I will be attaching my MBP to external monitor most of the times, a desktop Bluetooth mouse would be preferred.

I even bought this cute Razer mouse hoping their drivers would disable mouse acceleration. Logitech drivers are useless, by the way. Never install them.
The Razer drivers even have a box for 'acceleration', but it appears to toggle between 'less acceleration' and 'a lot more accleration'. I submitted a spport ticket with Razer, but do any of you have a suggestion? For the record, I've tried Steermouse, USB Overdrive. Neither completely disables mouse acceleration, regardless of what their options imply. After a lot of testing, there still exists a noticeable amount of mouse acceleration no matter what drivers/programs I use.

I've tried Steermouse, great app when it works. It keeps "disabling" itself every so often. I'm guessing it's a bug that has to do with switching apps. It works when I fire it up again. But is there another program that can allow me to specially keybind certain things to my mouse *AND* disable mouse acceleration? (oh I love you steermouse for removing mouse accel!)

just the way i liked it like windows' mouse.
downside though, when i use it with my logitech vx (800dpi) the distance needed to travel across the screen is so huge i will need another desk just for the mouse! it become natural however when i am on my lachesis with driver settings done in windows. sure i don't get all the buttons configured, but at least it is finally decent, besides the wheel(click) and the two buttons, there are 2 responsible for changing profiles, 2 for dpi adjustment and one more for expose
verdict: DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT APPLE!
for those who doesn't know:
open up terminal, type down the following,
defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1
restart computer and there you go. as long as you don't touch the mouse speed setting the status is maintained. you might want to have a gaming mouse though
