Acer :: Upgraded To Windows 7 Sound Not Working (6920)
May 10, 2010Just updated to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Everything seems to be working fantastic! But it seems the audio driver isn't right, as the sub isn't working and there's no mention of it in the Sound settings. The driver Acer supplies on their website for the Acer Aspire 6920 with Windows Vista Premium x32 also lacks this.
Where can I download the appropriate driver?
HP Envy M6 Audio :: Sound Not Working After Windows 8.1 Update
Oct 28, 2013A few days ago I updated from the Windows 8.1 evaluation to the full 8.1 release and since then my audio has not been working. In the control panel, "Digital Display Audio (AMD High Definition Audio Device)" is listed as unplugged. The audio icon on the taskbar is Xed out and clicking it runs the error finder in vain. Speakers no longer show up in the device listing although now that nothing is working I'm not sure if they ever did or if audio just came through Digital Display Audio. Headphones do not show up as playback devices and the volume controls on the keyboard and taskbar are inaccessible.
I have never used external speakers. The Windows 8.1 update seemed to wipe all of my HP and AMD software that came with the laptop so I reinstalled the HP Support Center and searched for driver updates and all that jive but everything shows as up to date. I don't know what else to look for as most of the forums I've seen seem to be talking about their HDMI out sound not working when plugged into a TV and I'm just trying to have sound, period.

HP Envy M6 Audio :: No Sound Working After Windows Update
Jul 13, 2014My notebook restarted itself to make updates, once i logged on i found that the sound is not working on music files, web pages etc. other than the windows sound. The other thing i noticed is that the mute button will not go off or on? i tried to troubleshoot but nothing..I found that left clicking my sound icon and clicking on playback devices and then left clicking speakers and headphones and clicking 'Test' led to a pop up; "Device in Use.The device is being used by another application. any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again." I have checked everywhere but i can't find the device being used anywhere? I'm not willing to lose by Beats Audio.

Acer Aspire E5-521-23kh :: Windows 8.1 - Sound Not Working
Dec 3, 2014I recently got this laptop, Acer Aspire E5-521-23kh with windows 8.1. I have it set up as a desktop so to speak, using a monitor with hdmi cable, wireless keyboard and mouse, and have speakers that use the headphone jack. Just yesterday I started having issues with the sound, it would suddenly turn off even with my speakers powered on. Restarting the computer, or disabling the speakers and then enabling them works, but it turns off eventually. And today I've had the sound working but has static/distortions with the sound.
I don't think it's an issue with the plug in speakers, as I've unplugged them and sound still wasn't coming out of the laptop speakers. But using troubleshooting for windows, it says there are no problems with sound. I've checked in device manager, and under audio inputs/output I've checked that all devices had up to date drivers. I've only had this laptop for a month, and what the cause could be.

Jul 13, 2014I'm not sure if it's caused by the Windows 8 update from a few days back, but the problem started around then.
The audio on my laptop is not working. The mute stays on, even when I press the physcial keyboard button to enable sound, and try to enable sound with my mouse from the volume menu. Nothing has audio.
Laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC running Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit.
I've seen some other people mentioning a problem like this recently...

Jul 16, 2014Okay, well the day before yesterday I was trying to watch Youtube but when I clicked on a video it had no sound. I thought it was Youtube, so I exited the site and thought I'd wait a little bit. So then I went to Spotify to listen to some music. I kept clicking and clicking and nothing was happening. Then I noticed a blue notice at the top that said something about my soundcard not working properly.
I then checked everything on my computer to see if it had sound. Windows Media Player...no, videos on Facebook...nope, nothing was working. At first I thought it was my daughter. I let her watch Youtube when she lays down for a nap. I came in the other day and she was hitting all kinds of buttons on my computer. I stopped her though and everything seemed fine. I also remember my computer updating that day. Could it be that something went wrong with the update? I don't know if that's possible or not.
And also, what is a soundcard. Do I have to buy it or do I download it???
I went to Yahoo answers and someone said to uninstall the drivers. I did that and then reinstalled them and it worked. The rest of that day I had sound on everything except for Facebook. Yesterday night it happened again and the sound has not returned since but my computer sounds are still working. When I logged on the computer made the log in sound it usually makes. I also tried to listen to a video with headphones and it still did not work. Again, I uninstalled the drivers and then re installed them and got nothing.

Also I guess I'll throw it in that my MBP is running pretty hot, is this normal? Or is there a fan control

i found out strange thing happened to my laptop. When i tried to play mp3, or any other file through wmp, vlc, itunes no sound was heard. when tried to play with wmp it showed up error i clciked web help but no useful info was found in there. when through vlc i just kept playing music (without sound) i tried updating drivers reinstalling to them that were shipped but no good. i have the warranty bought from the dell. i can/ but dont want to acces the mainboard so i wont loose my warranty. i now think it is a soft/drivers problem. in device manager it shows that everything is ok. tried so set the default audio device, microphone not working ***

Dell :: S-XPS 16 Bluetooth / Sound Not Working
Jan 18, 2010I love my new laptop but it has a few issues that i need some help fixing:
1) Bluetooth not working (Yes there IS a module in my computer): I went into my bios and checked to make sure the option for bluetooth was checked. When my computer boots, the bluetooth LED comes on but as soon as it exits the BIOS and boots Windows 7 the LED turns off. I've looked for new drivers, and looked around other forums for a solution for this but have found no direct answer.

2) Sound (I have The High Def Audio with SRS premium sound. IDT drivers)- When playing sound on my computer with the A01 bios version, and having the IDT audio drivers, I noticed a lot of weird things going on with the sound. It like bottomed out and had a lot of vibration or something. I dont know how to describe it but it was VERY distorted. Since then i've upgraded my BIOS to A05 and uninstalled my IDT audio drivers and let windows install its own high definition audio drivers. It seem a lot better but there is still some distortion there were it seems like the computer is just vibrating too much or something.. Is there a fix for this? I read in another thread that he had to take out the keyboard and adjust some of the screws that were messing with the speakers.
*Also when I plug in my headphones, i notice some scratching and weird sounds when im not playing any music. Its like I can hear the hardrive. However, the problem is inconsistent. Is there a way to fix this?
*Also are there some recommended settings for the SRS premium sound (if i solve this and get the sound working right)?
EDIT: Visit this thread to upgrade your BIOS to A05. It fixed this problem to me, and besides, its the latest BIOS version. It's currently not on the dell site (typical dell)
Also Uninstall the IDT SRS Premium audio software an go to the Dell site and download just the IDT Driver. It fixed the clarity problem i was having too.
3) Wireless card- This must have been a A01 BIOS issue but since I upgraded to A05, it has been fixed. Basically when running uTorrent, the card would completely crash. It would make Firefox crash, and any other internet required app
Also it would be EXTREMELY helpful if someone would create a thread with all of the latest S-XPS 16 drivers (1640 and 1645). That way much time spent searching and troubleshooting can be avoided if we can just have a thread with all the drivers displayed in one location. Dell is horrendous when it comes to the latest drivers

Sep 3, 2009Everything was fine till I formatted my HDD and installed Windows 7 (wanted to try it).
I have a HDMI cable from my laptop Aspire 5738ZG to my PHILIPS HD Ready TV. Now the picture shows just fine but I've got no sound at all on my TV.
I have tried reinstalling a lot of drivers without success . If anyone knows what's causing this problem please tell me, as I really want sound on my TV while watching movies etc.
Sony :: Beep Sound At Start Up And Key 'p' Is Not Working
May 22, 2009While starting the notebook, it beeps, (short toned but continuous) and pressing Alt / Ctrl or function keys stops that noise , then system getting booted. In the login screen, in the password field automatically populated with "*" and entering correct password get into a windows.
Every key is working except 'p' and this sometimes works. But to my wonder, this key automatically getting typed in text areas frequently. it continuously prints that key whenever focus goes on the text area.

Feb 25, 2009my sound on my laptop just suddenly stopped working and it was fine last night. Sound does not come out of the speakers, headphone jack, nor can I record using on board mic or plug in mic. I have reinstalled drivers, used system restore and did about everything that I could think of. The exact model number is HP TX 2513Cl. Any help would be much appreciated as I do not have time to send this tablet in for repairs. (and I can't even imagine how long I would be talking to HP either)

I'm not entirely sure what causes them to stop working, but if I remember correctly, the first time I remember it happening was after I had my computer plugged into the TV via an HDMI cable. Since then, the speakers seem to come and go. I think restarting my computer usually brings them back, but I was curious if there was another way to fix them other than that and if I could do something to keep this from happening in the future. Jun 18, 2008i have an acer 9303WSMi. i was watching a video on youtube, but the sound wasnt working properly. so i restarted my computer, and when it began to turn back on, the screen remained blank, and it made 1 long beep sound, followed by 2 short ones. i have looked this up and it apparently means that it has a problem with my graphics card. now i have 2 quesions. firstly, can my lapotop be fixed by me? secondly if not can it be fixed if i send it off to someone, and iof so roughly how long will it take for it to be fixed and returned to me?

Since purchasing, I have been able to mute the sound and turn it back on with no trouble, but now when I unmute the sound, nothing happens. The sound icon and the Volume Mixer all show that the sound is working and is set at the highest volume, but nothing comes out. Given that this laptop has beatsaudio, it's frustrating.

Aug 26, 2009I have an Inspiron 1720 laptop. It will be 2 years old this coming Christmas...and I ain't got the extended warranty so no go on sending this thing back to dell.
Recently within the past week or so the 1 and only fan has stopped working on it. Once I found out it stopped working I went and download SpeedFan to check on my temps and they was pretty high it showed the above normal arrow and sometimes even the flame icon next to the temps. So I have not been using my laptop since. I tried taking this thing apart but I have had no luck. I'm not very experienced in working on laptops.

My fan is working now. I don't know if I jumped to conclusions whenever my fan wouldn't turn on after a good 20 mins or so of just web surfing. So I decided to just hop on a game and play. Then there it was not even 5 mins into playing the fan kicked in and starting pushing out hot air very nicely, but I did look at the temps on SpeedFan and during gameplay my GPU would reach 140F and CPU would get at like 130-135F. My idle temps are still high in my opinion. The GPU idles in these ranges 125-130F and CPU at 100-110F. Is these temps normal? .....

Apr 25, 2009Bought a new dv7-2000, custom built. Nothing spectacular
As soon as I received it, I formated the drive and installed Windows XP Pro SP3. So far so good. All drivers installed, everything working.
Except for one little detail : I have sound on subwoofer only, no speaker, not even on headphones, no matter what jack I plug in. Sub does turn off when I plug the headphones though.
I tried several IDT drivers, all act the same.
