Dell Inspiron N5110 :: BIOS Update Failure - How To Restore
Dec 2, 2013I was performing a BIOS update on Dell Inspiron N5110 to Latest bios version, when the laptop became inactive plus the fan started to run at full speed. i could not even switch off the machine by pressing the power button. At the end i had to pull out AC cord and battery.Now its dead(No activity at all). how can i restore bios???

Well I used the win flash utility and the program verified my bios and went with the update. All good until the pc shut off. The quick lauch row of buttons along with the power button were on, the fan going full speed and the little light next to the caps lock button was flashing on and off. I gave it about 5 min and noticed nothing was progressing. So I tried holding down the power button to force it off and all it did was reset the lights and came right back on. I couldn't even get it to shut down without removing the battery.
So I tried the suggestion of pulling the battery out, holding the power button down for 30 sec and plug everything back it....nope. soon as I put the battery in it automatically turns the pc on, don't even have to push the start button.
I'm guessing this had something to do with a bad bios update and if so is there another way to get it back to default bios. I talked to HP chat.....what a nightmare....and it took me 30 min to tell who ever that i couldnt shut down the pc or get into setup when the guy kept repeating "Once you see hp logo hit F10...." um ....I can't get to that rtard that's what i've been telling you as you read you card in front of you. Then told me it would be 400 bucks to have it picked up and fixed...ya right for a bad update caused by hp in the first place.

HP Pavilion DV6-2117ev Recovery :: BIOS Failure - Not Able To Restore
Nov 10, 2014My friend's comuter's BIOS seems to be dead. When I turn it on the CapsLock light blinks for 2 times and nothing happens on my screen. I tried to remove battery and power cable for some minutes, but nothing changed. I also removed the CMOS battery and replaced it's RAM, but still got the same problem.
I've searched for solutions on everywhere, and most of the times I finally get stuck on this page. The combination of WIN+B seems to have no effect, something that makes sense as I'm almost sure they've deleted the HP_TOOLS partition.
In the page mentioned above, it's said that "a USB key with an HP_TOOLS volume can be used as an alternative". I really have searched everywhere, but I can't find how to create this USB drive. Where to find an extracted version of BIOS so I could restore from that. The only BIOS That I get from the driver's page is one ".exe" which I have to run it on that computer, which is impossible.
One last thing to mention is that I've downloaded the "sp61632" which gives me the "HP UEFI Support Environment Setup". When I try to install it on "USB Flash Drive" it gives me an error, but finally I've installed it locally on my computer, and then transfered its files on a USB Drive.
I renamed that drive to "HP_TOOLS", and the only folders in there are "Hewlett-Packard" > "SystemDiags", and in there can be found 8 items:
CryptRSA.efi
CryptRSA32.efi
SystemDiags.efi
SystemDiags32.efi
SystemDiags.s09
SystemDiags.sig
SystemDiags32.s09
SystemDiags32.sig
Just mentioning it, cause the total size is 2.5MB, and I can't see if thishas to do anything with the BIOS restore. So, to sum up, I need:
BIOS recovery files
a way to create USB drive with HP_TOOLS
Tried, but didn't work:
restart
remove HDD
remove CMOS battery
replace RAMs
WIN+B combination
WIN+B combination, with the flash drive mentioned above connected
The computer is: HP Pavilion DV6-2117ev

Operating system: Probably Windows 7 (I don't think this has any importance right now)

Mar 9, 2008Just to state first and foremost, this is not an issue I have. This is a preventative post for anyone that may ask down the line. (as I've seen it asked on multiple other forums.)
I had this issue with an inspiron 1720 I just got. It had an issue, so I installed vista from a Vista RTM disk. It didn't fix the problem in the end, so I sent it into dell and got fixed, but I wanted to a fresh restore from the restore partition because on restarts, I'd get the blue screen of Death. Fun stuff right?
Well, Unknowingly, when I installed vista off of the cd, that removed the ctrl+F11 option from the dell. This is stated on many forums, and it seems that most answers to this issue is to format and install a fresh install from cd again, or call dell and get recovery disks. I figured "Heck, If I still have the restore partition, there is not reason why I can't get it to restore with some effort."
Some other people I've seen have just had viral attacks, or just want to sell their laptop and need a fresh install. This is for those people that need it. The answer to the question of what if Control and F11 don't work.
So, Here I am with the fix. There is one required bit of software that's required, and that is simply a dos boot cd. You can find many iso's for dos on the net. All you have to do is burn a copy and boot from it. [EDIT] IMPORTANT: I was wrong about dos. As stated below ( http://www.notebookforums.com/post3049150.html ) you have to do it from a 32 bit environment. You can get through one in the XP repair console (on the install cd) or through one of the options in vista's setup.[/EDIT]
Ok, so this is going to be dumbed down a bit, and I'll explain what the dos commands do. First off, after booting into dos, you need to change to the restore partition. This isn't hard at all, all you do is type "D:" and press enter. After this, you need to find the restore file. This is a file with the extension of *.wim. This is an image of windows from dell factory.
Generally this file is found in d:dellimage and is called Factory.wim. Just to double check, I'm going to tell you to change the directory. Type in "cd dellimage" and press enter. In dos, CD means Change Directory (or enter a folder). Now, to list all of the files in the directory type in "dir" and press enter...............

Sep 4, 2014I lost the restore partition on the original SSD that my Yoga 13 shipped with. Is there a collection of drivers and whatnot that would allow me to restore it to factory defaults on my own with a fresh windows installation? I have the win8 key from the BIOS but don't want to lose out on all the required drivers if I were to just reinstall windows myself.

The windows partition finally died of old age with a corrupted file. Won't boot up as a dll is missing.
HOW can I get a recovery/restore CD? It is still running the original Windows XP OS.
Dell :: Studio 15 Restore
Mar 19, 2009On my new Studio 15 with Vista Home Premium SP1, I tried to partition the HDD using Easues Partition Manager and it never worked. My system would just keep giving errors. Finally, I 'restored' the system using recovery DVD but its not yet completely restored.
I had ordered my system with 1440 x 900 resolution and max I can get is 1152 x 864. At many other places, I feel like its running on generic drivers and specific drivers are not installed.
Can anybody help me in figuring this out and how do I go ahead and install drivers for my components.
There is one DVD with drivers and utilities. Do I go through this DVD for one by one components? or Dell provides any utility that will identify your hardware and install drivers for that?
I just don't want to do something blindly and f*** up the system again.
Dell ::with Factory Restore?
May 12, 2010I'm trying to restore my SXPS16 back to how it was when i bought it using the recovery partition. But when I go to the advanced boot menu the option to do the factory restore is missing.
I know I can do a clean windows install using the CD that came with it but I'd rather just have it the way it was when I first got it.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this, or otherwise, is there another way to do a factory restore?

Sep 19, 2007I just picked up a laptop and I want to do a fresh install of xp. Problem is I don't have a disk. The computer still has dells partition I believe (windows says the HD is 37.3 but it's really a 40). Will the restore partition accomplish what I want?

1)Drive C :Which has all the Windows files
2)Drive D: Which has other files
3)Drive E :Which has the Recovery files
So far I have enabled System Restore only for Drive C.
Is it advisable to enable System restore for Drives D and E also ?
Im particularly asking for Drive D as system restore eats lots of space if it is enabled in Drive D.
Are there any risks if system restore is not enabled for Drive D and E

Sep 3, 2009I am trying to restore my laptop (studio xps 16) to factory settings using the recovery image. If I look in my computer, i can see C and D drives.
D is my recovery partition with 7gb full out of 10gb. This is good and dandy except when i open the D drive, there is one folder that says RECOVERY that is empty. Why is it empty when there are 7gb's of files in there? I already have hidden files shown

Aug 10, 2011I recently bought the XPS 15 and decided to reformat the drive with a clean win7 64bit install using the drivers CD to assist leaving the Dell recovery partition in place
I may now be selling, so attempted a Dell factory restore from the Dell restore partition using F8 on reboot
Following the manual, I hit F8 but cannot see anything relating to the Dell recovery options only win7 recovery options
I did upgrade to the latest bios from the Dell XPS 15 drivers site but surely they wouldnt have removed this options
I have no recovery CD/DVDs either. Why I cant see the F8 recovery options and whats the best option to factory restore?

Feb 4, 2010I have a Aug 2006, Dell E1505, 1.83 ghz, 1 gb ram, ati 256 1400 etc etc + 80gb HDD (note) win XP & media center
for last three year never formatted my system, it was going good... recently some virus attack happend and it made my notebook verrrrrry slow, so i did the famous Ctrl + F11 !!
follow mark mck's bloatware removal, did a hdd defrag for non-c drive.
But my question is, even after everything the system is not running as fast it did in 2006
boot time is ~1min, shut down is 35 odd seconds...
So, my 2 cents say that after long usage, even if you do a factory restore DO NOT EXPECT a out of the factory hardware/speed, all u get is out of factory windows settings and bloatware ((

Dec 18, 2009trying to do a factory image restore on my Studio XPS 1640. I've done this before on other Dells but this one I don't see the Dell image restore option as said in the booklet.
I don't see the Dell Facotry TOols either. I just have the following: startup repair, system restore, system image recovery, windows memory diagnostic, and command prompt.
I chose system image recovery and it doesn't pull up anything - it's for my own images I made. No option to pull up my Dell factory image which I still have in it's own seperate partition.

I am going to look at the machine with a view to purchase it and the vendor states the HDD is 148gb but the service tag factory configuration indicates 160gb. The missing 12gb tends to make me think the restore/recovery partition may still be intact ?

Jul 17, 2009recently got hit with a bunch of trojans when using Internet Explorer. I managed to clean them off or so I thought. Periodically, when I open Internet Explorer my virus scanner detects a trojan.
Since the original trojan screwed up my computer to a degree I had decided to reload my operating system anyway.
If I hit F8 at boot and do a factory restore will this reload the disk to the state it was in when I originally received it? Will this also get rid of these viruses that seem to still be plaguing my system?
