Dell :: Blue Screen While Rebuilding An Insprion E1705

Mar 23, 2009

I'm rebuilding an Insprion E1705 from several broken 9400/E1705. I get the following when I install Vista Ultimate 64bit.

STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFFF88010B85800, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFFF8000A696440, 0x0000000000000000)

I have used the Dell Support Blue Screen Trouble-shooting.

It says: Use the Windows Debugger to pinpoint the exact cause of these errors.

Is there a Dos version or self booting CD version of the debugger so I can pinpoint the hardware that is causing the problem.

Dell :: Upgrading/Rebuilding

Oct 23, 2007

I currently have a Dell Inspiron 9300 that I bought a couple years ago for school. Recently, I've been finding myself playing games on it and not on my desktop.

So, I was thinking about buying a new laptop, but then I thought "Hey, I've made my own desktop.. lets try a laptop." So I read some posts, and a few articles on how to get wholesale prices on oem parts and whatnot.

Ultimately, I wound up at the same place I started.

SO my new approach is.. Taking my old Inspiron 9300 and putting new stuff into it, and getting rid of the old.

I love my display because it's the fancy 17" wide glossy display, all the input devices work properly, but I'd like to upgrade the essential pieces, or what I think they are:

Graphics Card
Cooling Fans

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions regarding how to go about upgrading/rebuilding my dell into something more powerful without breaking the bank?

Dell :: Insprion 9300 CPU Won't Run At Max Capable Speed55555555555

May 10, 2010

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 notebook and am wondering if it's time for a replacement. Things were fine until about a week or two ago where the system was running a bit sluggish in Linux during the more CPU intensive stuff like compiling and VMWare. When the CPU kicks into max speed the fan usually goes off as well and since about a week or two ago the fan has been on almost constantly. Figuring I could live with the machine running in max speed I didn't think much of it until now. Running RightMark CPU Clock Utility (RMClock) under Windows I'm told the speed is around 800MHz, as well as the utilities in Linux. Weird thing is the info under System Properties General Tab tell me it's running at 1.86GHz... BIOS tells me the min is 800MHz and max is 1.86GHz, however it is currently at 800MHz. Running the usual stuff in Windows and Linux that I know usually would spike the CPU into max speed no longer does this. Anyone have any suggestions?

Dell :: My Insprion 9400 Set-upmodding It Into An XPS M1710

Aug 21, 2007

here's my setup below so far. Am modding it slowly into an XPS M1710 look a like, have the keyboard, just waiting on the LCD top and palmrest with XPS in the mouse pad. I managed to get the black XPS LCD cover too, but for now I have the chequerplate look that mine came with. Much prefer the silver keyboard to the black, and it has a nicer feel than the black one to type on.

External HD's are 2x small 80GB Lacies which are for portable work, and the big one is an Iomega 500GB. I'm a photographer and web desginer by trade so the more space I have the better.

Let me know your thoughts. p.s not sure how to get pics up smaller ?? so hope there not too big.

Dell :: High Pitched Sound Insprion 9300

May 4, 2010

I have this extremely annoying high pitch sound coming from my mobo.

I have removed everything including graphics card and CPU from the board and powered it on, for the split seconds it turns on I can still here this sound.

I have pin pointed it to the DC jack area on the board.

I have previously repaired this DC jack (3 years ago) and was wondering could a bad solder joint or perhaps a faulty DC jack cause this sound ?

Or maybe something I'm missing ?

Dell :: E1705 Screen

Oct 20, 2009

I purchase a Dell E1705 in August of 2006 and it was a great computer until around August of 2008. What started happening is the screen would go blank or when you turned the computer on the computer would start to load and then present a blank screen.

The BIOS is updated and the battery is fine. Since the screen problem I've had Dell replace the motherboard 3 times, the video card twice, and the LCD panel twice.

Actually when the technician installed the last LCD screen and tested it the screen didn't work but when he put the old one in it did work. I kept telling him it was the video card and not the LCD panel. Turns out I was right. Thankfully my computer is under warrenty until August 2010 but I'd rather eat dog crap then deal with Dell support again. They're useless!! If I ask for their assistance this will be the FOURTH time in a little over a year and a half. Oh, and by the way, I am very carful with these machines .....

Dell :: E1705 No Boot Screen

Apr 12, 2008

so last night my wife was on my laptop and she went to her friends myspace page. She scrolled down the page and clicked onto background wallpaper on accident and all of a sudden the screen started flashing, the song that was playing on the page started cutting in and out. When the screen was up she tried to close the webpage etc but the system kept cutting out. I told her to just hard power down the system. Problem is when she tried to start it back up there is no bios/dell splash screen. It looks like the monitor screen powers up and I can see the power light on the case, but there is nothing else. I hooked it up to an external monitor and that monitor powered up and didn't give a no signal error so it must be getting fed something.

Does this sound like the bios on the mobo got hosed? Does it sound like a video card problem (i have an fx2500 with 130watt psu)? If I contact dell, do you guys think the tech who shows up will slam me for the video card and void what's left of my warranty?

Dell ::White Vertical Patch On Screen (E1705)

After a few years of good service, I noticed a white vertical patch about Ĺ" thick on my E1705 yesterday. It's always there whenever the screen is on.

I haven't connected the laptop to an external monitor yet to completely rule out graphics card issue, but it seems like a screen issue to me. Last year I had a graphics card issue (garbled screen) and Dell replaced it under warranty but it's out of warranty this time ......

Dell :: E1705 Problems With MB, Speakers, Lcd Screen, Heatsink

Jan 22, 2008

I currently have a laptop that's going to be replaced. It's the E1705 with the 1.83ghz and ati x1400 video card. I've had numerous problems with it (MB, speakers, lcd screen, heatsink) and dell is granting me a replacement. Being that I only have the ATI x1400, I guess I don't have too much leverage in negotiations.

I asked the Tech rep what laptop I would be getting and he responded with, "Are you looking for a better laptop?" I didn't want to sound too greedy so I just replied "I just one with a DVI port" lol. Then, he replied with no problem. Then I got the classic response: "You'll get one that is most likely similar components or better." Did I act incorrectly by not being greedy. Should I have said "Yes, I want a better laptop!!"

Also, if I insist that a DVI port is basically required and one of the main reasons why I got the E1705 in the first place, what other laptop options could they try and replace me with? One of the reasons I said I insist on it having DVI is because the current model E1720 does not have a dvi port. I'm actually hoping for the Dell M1710 or M1730

Dell :: Blue Grainy Screen

I was wondering if anybody could help me. I have a m1530 and my LCD has this blue lines going down the screen majority of the time. However if I angle the LCD just right it goes back to normal.

It appears to be some kind of connection problem because (again) it does go back to normal after moving around the screen to that exact angle. Anybody have any suggestions? I have added comparison pics to this thread.

Please excuse the poor quality pics...i dunno why my camera did that. I just wanted to ask here first to see if I can open up the laptop and fix it bc I'd have to downgrade back to Vista before sending the laptop to Dell.

Dell XPS 14Z :: Blue Screen And Shutting Down

Feb 1, 2013

I have bought a new laptop, Dell XPS 14Z, 14 inch, with Windows 7 Premeium installed on it. However, I have a couple of problems from the very start which makes me regret buying it. The laptop works great, but sometimes when I try to shut it down, it doesn't. Just a blue window with shutting down sign but it never turns off perfectly.

The second problem is even deadlier. A blue screen, once a day or two days once appears and I never know why. This death screen comes from nowhere without any reason, I scanned my computer and there's no trace of virus. The only think recognizeable from the screen is this file 'tixhci.sys" file.

The laptop is very good in terms of hardware, 2.5 CPU i5, RAM 4GB, 500GB of hard drive and 1GB of display card.

Dell XPS L501X :: Blue Screen Of Death?

Jan 4, 2011

I have a brand new Dell XPS with Model : L501X purchased in Malaysia hand carried to Philippines about 2 weeks ago.

Upon receiving I have noticed that a Blue Screen appears with nvlddmkm.sys error every time I play a video initially stored in the laptop hard drive or via youtube.

I have also noticed there were two video drivers installed which where Intel HD graphics and Geforce GT 420M drivers. I installed an updated GT 420M driver through driver downloads in dell support. Unfortunately it did not resolve the issue.

To relieve my doubts of driver conflicts, I have freshly installed a Windows 7 home premium but BSOD still keeps on occurring.

I am currently running this computer using only one video driver (Intel HD Graphics), I want to run this computer using Nvidia Geforce GT 420M.

How am I gonna do that without having BSOD recurring?

Is it also normal to hear some frequently very mild ticking sound coming from the right side of the keyboard and mildly grounding sting on the plastic aluminum colored frame around the keyboard?

BTW, here are some hardware info :

Model : L501X
Processor : Core i5
Ram : 4 Gb
Hdd : 500 Gb
VCard : Nvidia Geforce GT 420M - 1 Gb

Dell :: Blue Screen Of Death Help (video Card)

Oct 12, 2007

I've got a problem. I downloaded and installed the new demo for Time Shift. After it was complete it said it detected I did not have the latest drivers for my video card and I needed to download the latest ones for stable running of the game. So I clicked ok and it took me to a download of a Forceware driver (I've forgotten the numbers and have deleted it). After downloading it and running it, a box popped up and said I don't have the the compatible hardware/software to install those drivers (not exact words). So I thought ok, it will just exit and keep what I've got (dells stock 7900GTX driver). but after exiting the setup about 5 seconds later I got a blue screen stating a hardware error.
So I restarted my M1710 to notice blue dashed vertical lines on my screen and after the Windows XP loading page it would blue screen again so fast I cant read any of it. Now I can run in safe mode without the graphical screw ups on my screen. But the boot diagnostic detected no error. It displayed all those colored bars but there were weird glitches in them. I downloaded and re-installed Dells stock drivers to no avail. I searched my hardrive and registry for anything that said Forceware or the driver number and deleted all results. I system restored to no avail. So now I can only run in safe mode on a really ugly resolution.

What can I do before I resort to the 5+ day pain of return to depot service?....

Device manager shows no problems but says it can state the status of the card in safe mode. And I'm not technical enough to know how to use the event viewer to work out what went wrong.

Dell :: New Vostro 1710 Gives Blue Screen (BSOD)

Dec 12, 2008

I bought a Dell Vostro 1710 because I needed a Windows XP notebook with a matte 17 inch screen. Only Dell and HP have such notebooks. The Dell Vostro 1710 is exactly what I need. But I got blue screens (BSOD). It happens complete randomly, sometimes after 1 hour, sometimes after 10 days. Dellís solution was that I had to reinstall Windows XP and the drivers, which cost me three hours work. After some days the blue screen appears again. Than I had to install Windows update, and new drivers from internet. Two hours work. No result. Than I had to remove the memory modules one by one and test again. No result. Each time I used the Vostro for one or two days before the blue screen appears again. Then Dell replaced the complete motherboard. After some days the blue screen appears again. Then I had to reinstall Windows XP and the drivers again, no result.

Three hours work. This al together cost me many days of work. Then I received another new Vostro 1710. I used it without problems for 10 days. Than the blue screen appears again. So there are already 6 weeks gone but I donít have a functioning Dell Vostro 1710 yet. Iím a programmer and have 20 years experience with PCís. I never had blue screens on my other PCís or notebooks. Who has the same problem with a new Dell Vostro 1710?
