View 7 RepliesI've been shopping laptops and have my eye on either an e6400 or e6500 from the dell outlet.
I've been tempted to pull the trigger already but I'm going to try and hold off in hopes of a coupon.
My question: Do all these have backlit keyboards?
There are some great prices on 1530s in the outlet. I`m thinking this might be a good time to pick 1 up.
My question is: since these are computers that are already built, can you find out which screen manufacturer you`re getting when you order? I`d love to know I`m getting an LG.

I explained how I had read that there are 5 sub categories in the "In Production" section and I asked nicely if she could tell me what stage I was in. She didn't really understand what I was asking her not because of a language barrier, because while her english was accented we understood each other perfectly throughout the conversation.
She finally did say I was not yet in the boxing stage but could tell me no more than tha
I want to buy a new Dell Notebook but I have no clue which type of SSD they put in their models.
Samsung?.........................
Whenever I try to run a chkdsk either from a command prompt or from Windows, I get the message that "Disk Checking has been cancelled". I have googeled and it seems a common problem with no single sound fix. Â
Inspiron N1510. windows 7 Home Premium
I just want to clear things up.
I have bought:
Coverplan Expiry Date : 24/06/11
Term : 3 YEARS
Now there is Manufacters Guarantee Expiry Date which is already expired.
I want to know what I'm insured from with the 3-YEAR plan.
And I'm expierencing some heat issues. I'm thinking of replacing the mobo, If I'm covered under it .....
I have an Alien M14x that when turned on displays the message "checking media" then the message "no boot device found hit any key to reboot". Of course when you hit a key it restarts the messages. I followed another feed and hit F2 to reset defaults with F9 with no success. When I tried to diagnose with F12 it says hard drive not installed???!! Haven't altered or changed anything and it stopped working less than 2 years old but out of warranty.Â
View 1 Replies View Relatedtake apart my 5920g to check if the keyboard ribbon needs replacing or if the connecter has come loose. Ive googled big time trying to find a guide with pics etc. Could someone help as im currently in afghan trying to keep in touch with the wife (im a brit soldier) when I can, using my laptop. The dead keys are - b,n,h,y,u,7,8. So I cant really talk properly on msn etc.
Im using the on screen keyboard to help write this message!
As you may remember I sent my laptop of to acer for the screen to be repaired, they wiped the harddrive, kept etremely poor contact and kept the laptop away from me for a mo nth. Overall, it was a horrible experience.
Not only that, it was a botch repair job and the laptop died soon after being returned. I had no choie but to return it to them, reluctantly. About 3 weeks go back before i hear anything, then I get an email saying it had bee shipped back to me. A few days later, it still hasn't come. then after a few emaisl to them moe I get a replying saying sorry, but the guy wo said that was mistaken, and it had in fact not been shipped out to me.
Then after another barrage of emails I hear they can't actually repair it, and want to replace it to a new one. And of course, they won't swap the old harddrive in. There was no way I could back everything up this time as it died completely so soon after i got it back. This is unbelievable. I then get an email saying I can buy back my own property from them(ing warranty), which later turns out to be a lie too, I can pay £40 to have 4 DVDs backed up off it. 16 gigs from a 250 gig HD. Oh, joy.
I don't know what to do at this stage. Because they outright lied to me and have jerked me around this much, and the damage was their fault, I think I might have something I can stand on. This is absolute insanity and I can't see how anyone involved is an actual human being.
I want to know what I should do. A guy in my house who worked for apple said i should find a cheap solicitor and get them to send a letter, as big companies don't have time to deal with that kind of thing, and i'd at least get it back quicker.
I have an Inspiron 5520 with Win 8 and for the last few days every time the system boots up I get the following message: "checking media (fail)". The message appears twice then the system boots normally. All the programs/apps work fine. The only "media" program I used was Windows Movie Maker and it works just fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone knows the manufacturer and the model of the 256GB SSD that comes with VGN-Z890 CTO?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIT seems that for their specs the price they ask for is reasonable, but i am biased towards them cause the last ACER i bought raised high temperatures and made lot of fan noise, and i grew to hate them. But i cant shake off the fact of their reasonable price.
As far as electronics go, i've learned that once you encounter a bad Manufacturer, he'll always not exceed your standards. But i need your output on this matter.
So Is ACER a good notebook manufacturer?
What exactly does that mean in SIMPLE terms. Sony makes it all confusing and i'm like ? I don't know if i should get an extra warranty or if the Manufacturer's Limited Warranty is enough for now.

I followed the manual and no problems as of yet.
My question is the point in me opening up my laptop was to find the motherboard make and model and revision version number. I was checking to see if there was a bios update for this laptop and the advice given was to get the exact motherboard make etc..
and the best advice on how to get an exact match was to open it up. I did and I searched as far as my cheap tools would let me. I was able to remove the cpu fan but when I went to remove the cpu heatsink I could not get the screws to budge. According to the manual the cpu is beneath the cpu heat sink and this is where I thought I needed to go to find the motherboard make and model etc...

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a question on the SSD drives used in the FW590 CTO (configure-to-order).
I know that they have a 128GB option and also a 256GB option for their SSD drives and wanted to know the make/model/manufacturer of the drives.
As we know, there is a world of difference between the performance of the various SSD drives available, with the Intel models being the highest performing ones, while some of the other SSD drive models being pretty poor from a performance perspective.
I talked to Sony support who expressed complete ignorance on the make/model/manufacturer of the SSD drives employed in the FW models (VGNFW590 CTO is the model I am looking for) and thus was wondering if the folks on the forum know the details on it.
I wanted to do this for a while. My dell e6400 has 1280x800 display. I want to upgrade to 1440x900.
I found this one New SCREEN 14.1" WXGA LCD for DELL E6400 B141PW04 on eBay (end time 14-Jun-10 15:54:13 BST)
on ebay.
Does anyone have experience of dealing with ebay screens, i mean are they what they say they are(working properly and stuff)?
Is there anything special I need to be looking for then buying new screen?
I've had eye on Z Series for couple days, but there exists a mystery I couldn't figure it out.
I've searched this forum and the net, still no answers.
On the sony's official USA website (www.sony.com)
Sony claims VGN-Z790 CTO has upto 7.5 hours of standard battery life.
However, other preconfigured Z Series laptop such as VGN-Z790DND, VGN-Z798Y/X, VGN-790DLX, VGN-790DKX, VGN-Z790DMR, and/or VGN-720D/B has upto 6 hours of standard battery life. It's mystery I was unable to figure out.
what's difference between Z790 and Z720? (I mean fundamental differences like circuitry design or expansion limitations such as maximum ram support and so. Couldn't figure this out... probably one of those model number decryption wizard would know it.)
I got my E6400 last week and I found that everything all right except the color of LED screen, it's awful.
The color of the screen is pale, i had tried to calibrated the graphic settings but it doesn't improve too much.
Also, i saw some posts here said that the LG screen is better than the Samsung screen, but I can't agree with that because my screen is LG.
Is it normal for LED backlight screen that the color is more pale than the CCFL backlight screen or just the screen of mine had some problems?
I ordered a certified refurb and the machine is great except the former owner attempted to clean the screen and left tracks all over it.
I've searched for the best method to clean the screen and the consensus seems to be using a 50% isopropyl alcohol solution onto a lint free microfiber or soft cloth and to go in small circular or one way motions.
Anyone have great success cleaning their screens with minimal smudging? Does this warrant contacting dell to get the screen replaced?
the smudge tracks are significant when the screen is off but otherwise when using the machine they are not noticeable. Otherwise no dead pixels and no other problems.
I'd like to clean the screen if I can, I've been meaning to clean my d820 anyway, I havent' cleaned that screen sine I've gotten it.
I have some problems with the screen on my e6400 one week old.
The screen is flickering. This is most noticed when showing gradients

If I open up the same page on another computer the images does not flicker at all.
I have a Dell Latitude E6400 and am extremely happy with it as I've had no major problems with it so far (touch wood), but just last week, the screen started to go dim and then bright, really annoyingly.
I can tell it must be to with the sensor thing below the screen as when I put my finger over it, it goes dimmer.
I've been considering both of these systems, but I was wondering if anyone had a bit of personal experience with the screen quality.
There are the obvious differences of size, resolution, and matte vs glossy, and the general strengths and weaknesses of both of those, but I would like to hear some impressions from someone that has had first hand experience with each.
I am going to be using the system for graphic design (student) work, some of which will go to print as well as digital photography editing. I know about color calibration and how important it is.
what do you have to install to set up the privacy screen feature on E6400s with dedicated graphics? I thought I saw it in the DCP when the notebook first came with the manufacturer install, but now I reinstalled every aspect of it that I could find on the driver and utility disk, and still nothing.
Now, my DCP has 4 options--System Overview, Power Manager, Display and Device, and Security Manager. In the Security Manager, I only seem to have options for the Fingerprint Reader and the Trusted Platform Manager (and I have no idea what the latter is). Can't find a Privacy Screen feature anywhere, and the Fn+E shortcut doesn't do anything either.
Has anyone tested this first hand? Does it work like the claim it does?
How is the viewing angle from straight ahead whilst the feature is on?...
because if it does id probably but it...and im glad it has no trackball!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've reinstalled Windows Vista on my E6400.
I can controll the screen brightness with the [FN] + [UP] / [DOWN] keys, but I can't see if it's up 50%, 80%, 100% etc. Before the reinstall I could se this on the display via some sort of Dell-tool.
Which driver/tool should I install from Dell to be able to see the percentage again?
