Dell :: Current Status On /Samsung 256GB SSD TRIM Support ?
May 12, 2010What's the current status? Does or doesn't it support TRIM and if then with which firmware?

View 10 RepliesSo I was still confused about whether or not the SXPS Samsung SSDs would be able to accept the future firmware update (and thus be able to support TRIM). I contacted Dell's tech support via email and was told that the drives will support TRIM (though on 2 occasions he called it TRIP). I am not inspired by his lack of knowledge regarding the proper term and dont think that he is right. If I save the email would this help my case of getting a SSD from Dell in the future that does actually support TRIM?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI got a Dell Latitude E4200 with a Samsung SSD PB22-JS3 TM 64GB drive. Does anyone know if its firmware can be upgraded to support TRIM in Windows 7? Current
firmware version is VBM19D1Q. Seems like the version that support TRIM is VBM19C1Q. Doesnt that seem like a downgrade? I've had my notebook since October 2009 so I dont think it has TRIM support from the factory.
Firmware location I think is here: http://www.samsung.com/global/busine.../business.html
I have been looking around for the answer to this but I'm still not sure.
I downloaded HwInfo32 and it says my firmware version is "Drive Revision: VBM24D1Q"
And then below it shows "TRIM Command: Supported (Indeterminate Read After TRIM)"
Does this mean mine already has the trim firmware?
Any firmware out for this yet? Or does anyone know of a workaround with another existing firmware?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a TT190 with a factory-installed SSD. As many of you are probably aware, Windows 7 support for TRIM greatly improves the performance of an SSD that is used over time. But the drive must support it.
Recently Intel, Samsung, Corsair and some other manufacturers have released new firmware for their SSDs that supports TRIM.
My TT190 contains a Samsung MMCQE28GFMUP-MVA SSD drive. I suspect that Sony uses that same drive (or drives from the same series) in other Vaio models.
I wanted to understand if there is any TRIM firmware already released or planned for this drive, so I sent an email to the relevant support group in Samsung. After two weeks I received the following reply:
Quote:
Thank you for your inquiry to Samsung Semiconductor.
At the end of this month or, if delayed, next month, we will open a web site on which all FW updates (including the VBM19C1Q, with ATA-TRIM) and tools will be available for easy update all devices PM800.
Unfortunately, the SSD model MMCQE28GFMUP-MVA is not supported in this FW update (it is not PM800 series) and there will be no support for TRIM in the future.
We do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience using our products
I especially like the last phrase.....
I've wondered about this while I was shopping for my Studio 15 and now I'm helping another NBR user also find one via Dell Outlet.
Graphite Gray (apparently no longer available on new models) was offered with Black, Red, Blue or Pink trim. What areas of the notebook are in the "trim" color? Also, can anyone describe the shade of blue used on the Graphite Gray with Blue Trim?
If I have a 1080p/5.1 source on my laptop (BD, .mkv, etc.), will I be able to output that signal via the HDMI port?
I've read about some laptops only supporting HDMI video/not supporting HD resolution output/HDCP issues and just want to confirm that the Studio is capable of this.
When I try to make recovery by one key recovery I get this message (current system can not support back up)
I have lenovo G580 (20150), windows 8 .
And use One key recovery version 8.0.0.1519

Looking on Dell outlet and noticed that color scheme. I was wondering how it looks since I was planning on a Jet Black, but the Graphite Grey sounds nice too

In the last week the 256GB SSD showed up as an option for some of the XPS machines...........................
XPS 16, which SSD do they use for the 256GB version and what speeds can I expect from it?

View 10 Replies View RelatedJust got it and installed it - still playing around.
Steps to installation - existing HD WD 320GB 7200 (a truely good and silent drive)
New SSD - G.Skill 256GB SSD
1.Sell one small offspring to come up with the cash.
2.I cleaned up my HD - took all the stuff I did not use out
3.CCleaned it
4.Did the last defrag I should ever do
5.Installed the SSD in my Roswill USB case and connected to my M1330
6.Initialized the drive
7.Formated the drive
8.Downloaded the latest build of Acronis 2009
9.Cloned the HD to the SSD
10.Booted up quickly with no issues.
Works great. Boots fast.Everything "pops".
I will miss little Bobby but he kept touching my stuff.
By the way 8 months and no Nvidia issues.
I have a Studio XPS 13 with the 256GB SSD option and absolutely love it.
My wife uses a Mac... one of the new 13" Macbook Pro's. It came with a 160GB 5400RPM drive but she needs more room and after seeing my XPS fly with the SSD she has decided that she just has to have an SSD.
Looking out on the Dell website I see that they sell the 256GB Dell branded SSD for under $500 which seems like a really good deal but I'm not sure if it will work in the MBP .....
I have an E4300 coming today with a 256GB Encrypted Mobility SSD in it.
I had always thought that the encryption was totally SSD-based. But in thinking about it, if that was the case, then I could move the SSD to another notebook and it would still work, since the encryption is IN the SSD.
So, there must be something (TPM, etc) that ties the encrypted SSD to the notebook.
Does anyone knows how TRIM works in that configuration ?
Have anyone done some tests yet?
Just picked up a (seemingly) great deal on an E4300 from the Outlet with a 256GB Encrypted Mobility SSD for about $1100, and wondered which SSD actually comes with it? I'm hoping it's at least a 2nd Generation Samsung and not some old 1st Gen Samsung that's slow as molasses!

The drive can be bought by itself from their spare parts store for a very good price so I am interested in seeing the the hardware is good.
If someone could supply the OEM and even a model number it would be greatly appreciated.
this is the one I am looking at:

View 8 Replies View RelatedThe guy would only say system exchanges take 3-4 weeks and yours will be processed as soon as possible- I tell him that my case has been escalted to mamagement and that emails were sent to the dispatch team to queue it higher since Dell mistakingly sent me a 17inch alienware which i would not accept- His reply was I choose to wait longer my refusing the AW - So I will have to wait back through the exchange queue- ...WHAT>>>> Dell sent the AW without asking me if i would accept- also manager i have spoke to never said such non-sense.
So i ask for a manger to call me back - he says it will be 2 hours- Fine- Also please have the 130w power brick sent out to me so i can atleast have some fuctionality- Hes Ok- it will be 4-5 buisness days =- WHAT- I say this machine carrys next business day warranty - He says its "Up to next business day" but in most cases longer- ....I say BS- that is not the terms of the warranty-
This was 30 min ago- never got an email of the chat log or a do i see the dispatch record for the power brick in my history...
i currently have two 1330s... one with LED and one with CCFL
The LED is a toshiba LCD2306, the CCFL an AUO Optronics, the CCFL looks MUCH better which seems to me total nonsense since the LED is supposed to be better in all aspects.
I will be contacting customer service. Should i be asking specifically for the samsung LED?
