View 9 RepliesI have a Dell Latitude issued by my company. It "simulate" the system beeping (for example, when login incorrect or when you hit backspace too many time in unix command line) by making a VERY LOUD sound through the sound card..
I have my headphone on at all time and those annoying sound is making me deaf. Does anyone know how to disable this stupid feature?...
I recently gave my E6500 to a family friend who lives a bit farther away. He wondering how to disable the trackpoint on the keyboard. His technical level is noob, so can anyone please provide a step-by-step procedure?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi recently got a new studio 1555, i wanted to disable my touchpad while using an external mouse so i use the feature in the touchpad properties that disables the touchpad
once an external pointing device is connected. The problem is, once i disconnect the mouse the touchpad does'nt turn on again, is that normal behavior? should'nt the touchpad come back to life once i disconnect my mouse.
How do I disable (and keep disabled) the backlight on my XPS 13? I can use fn+f6 to turn it off, but it ends up turning itself back on when re-logging in or coming back from hibernating, etc. Running Windows 8.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell Studio 1737, with Vista Home Premium which I'm happy with ... apart from this Dell Media Direct thingy which is driving me berserk! Intermittently, and for no apparent reason, it jumps up a big black box (Dell MediaDirect), then another box (MediaDirect Home) which seems to be for running films etc.
OK I may use it sometime in the future, but hopefully when I request it ...
I can't find it in the Startup files, nor in Task Manager.
So how can I turn it off?
I have win-XP installed on my DELL Inspiron 1525.

I have a standard internal HDD and a secondary HDD in the optical disk drive bay.The BIOS reports them as HDD (internal) and ODD (drive bay). What does ODD mean? Now in the Boot section the terms are:
•Hard Drive - shows my internal HDD. My secondary HDD does not appear here.
•CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive - is the optical drive. BUT as my secondary HDD is in the optical drive bay will this boot the secondary HDD?
•USB Storage Device - assume this refers to the USB ports
•Removable Drive - what is this? What boots from this?
•eSATA - assume it boots when an eSATA drive when attached
Finally. I know you can move the priority of boot options up and down BUT can you disable options? Eg. if you want to force a boot from a second drive - how can you disable the internal drive? (which you can do on many BIOSes)
Is that a way to disable touchpad while typing?...
I saw a lot of post talking about this for Sony Vaio, I can't find the option in my dell E6500.
Currently, I am using alps driver 7.2.101...
Couldve sworn ive seen the option in the mousepad settings before, but cannot seem to find it now.

How do I tell not to boot to media direct?
I saw this exact same message in another thread but no resolve.
Just got my E4300. There are a few things bugging me about the unit such as the touchpad and touchpad buttons.
But one of the real annoying things is the Control Point.
Especially for wi-fi.
Once the computer is running, I can see at least four items on my system tray associated with wifi, or connecting to it.
How can I simply let the windows wifi manage my wifi?
For some reason,
when I hybernate or go on standby, the wifi (managed by Control Point) doesn't automatically connect again. I have to disable my wifi and enable it again to find my router. Or Reboot.
Very annoying.
It also completely disables the windows built wifi. So "repair" wifi doesn't work because it doesn't even see my network.
So, Is it ok to disable simply the wifi portion of the control point?
Better yet, what's the proper way of doing this?
I'm fine with the other stuff, I just find the wireless networking portion of it annoying.
I know it's kinda dumb but it's annoyingly bright when I've got the computer on at night and it's busy converting video or doing other work. It's also less power used.
It can't be done through software but has anyone physically unplugged them? I've not opened up the case yet so I don't know how practical that would be, thought I'd ask around first.
I have a 1340 with the nvidia 9500m.
The thing is: I use Linux and I don't really care for the discrete card nor this whole SLI thing.
I am fine with the 9400 only, but I got the laptop with the 9500 in a promotion and they only had this option.
As I use Linux and there's no support from nvidia to SLI, the discrete card even though useless consumes power lessening the battery life and running the computer warmer.
i am getting tired of the stupid screen. is there a way in the bios to disable it or what is it in device manager to kill it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (Latitude D620) is driving me..How do I turn off the touchpad and disable the top row (between touchpad and spacebar) of mouse buttons? When ever I'm in Word, or composing an email, the cursor moves up into previously typed text and starts typing from there instead of where I was at. I suspect it is the touchpad or the 'mouse' buttons between the touchpad and the space bar. On a ThinkPad there was way to turn off the touchpad, but still leave the joystick/pointer enabled. But I need to also disable the top row of mouse buttons.
In other words what I want is a set up where the joystick/pointer works and the bottom row (below the touchpad) of mouse buttons works, but not the touch pad itself, or the top row of buttons. It sounds funny, but it has become a severe productivity issue. The cursor jumping has happened 7 times just in this one email !!
It is possible in a Inspiron 15R SE to completely disable the AMD graphic card through BIOS/EFI and just use the integrated Intel HD 4000?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am unable to disable the adaptive brightness on the i5 HD 5500 1080p version of the new XPS 13.
When I view a dark page, the screen will dim, and when I view a bright page, the screen will get brighter. This is extremely annoying and all the options I've tried have not fixed this issue at all.
Turning off the enable adaptive brightness option in the advanced power settings does nothing. I have this done on all power plans.
The option for disabling it that should be in the Intel Graphics Driver does not exist.
Disabling the Sensor Monitoring Service doesn't fix it either.
I have the latest version of the Intel Graphics drivers. Uninstalling it doesn't fix it either.
Installing another operating system doesn't fix it either, so I'm assuming this is some sort of hardware problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is Vostro 1500 with 8600M GT
I'm experiencing some weird flashes, driver stops working and recovered, random distorting dots etc recently. I'm 99% sure its the video card's problem. Luckily the display card can be exchanged. But before going ahead to change it I wanna ensure its video's fault. So I wonder theres any way I can turn off the NVIDIA 8600M GT ,use the intel graphic instead, and see if I still get any of those problems.
I don't seem to find any option in BIOS letting me to do so.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Dell Inspiron 1420 with XP, bought in Malaysia almost 5 years ago. It was working fine till a month ago when the keyboard and touchpad started malfunctioning. I used an external keyboard and mouse to over ride the problem but from time to time, it acts as if a button on the built in keyboard is being pressed (for instance ctrl on the laptop is being held down so when I type the letter "f" on the external keyboard, I end up opening the Search tool). I don't know the internal mechanism of this laptop, but is there a way I could disable the laptop's keyboard and touchpad, and continue functioning only through the USB external keyboard and mouse? I tried uninstalling the drivers.
