Dell :: Does M6400 Keyboard Flex

Nov 9, 2008

M6400 is reporting that the keyboard is flexing a lot.

[quote=nixx;4125953]Just got my Covet in.. snapped a few photos. All in all, the extrior build quality is like a rock. The exterior seems to be all aluminum. Very nice quality feel to it. I can confirm that the keyboard flexes a lot. My Precision M90 has zero keyboard flex. This is the only laptop I've ever owned that flexes like this. I hope it's not a longevity problem.[/QUOTE

Is this a general thing or a single machine? Does any of the other M6400 owners experience such flex?

Dell :: M6400 Covet Left Palm Flex

Jan 30, 2009

So yeah I wasn't exactly handling the thing with utmost care, was holding the open laptop one-handed by the left front corner, heard a plastic snap sound... I press down on the flat black plastic area where your left palm would rest, just above the PC card slot.. it's a bit squishy. Does it flex for yours too, am I paranoid? Its not a problem just wondering...

Dell :: Really Bad Keyboard Flex On Studio 17 And 15

Nov 22, 2008

Time for a new notebook, my old Inspiron 1505/6400 is going to be my mother’s new computer . I went to a shop that carried Both Studio 15 and 17 (in countries where DELL doesn’t have a branch they sell prebuilt computers through different retailers) and checked them out. I am mostly interested in Studio 17” because of the larger screen and dual HDD option but it has a terrible terrible keyboard flex. It doesn’t matter how hard a press a key, the keyboard will move down with the key pressed and it is really very annoying to type on. The same thing with Studio 15 keyboard, but the flex is reduced because of the smaller keyboard. But it’s still there …. and it is also annoying. Compared to my Inspiron 1505, it is a night and day difference, 1505’s keyboard is solid and doesn’t budge when I type, whereas Studio’s keyboard feels like it’s made of rubber.

What is the deal with Studios keyboards, are they all like this or the models on display came with defective keyboards? Both models had backlit keyboards if it makes any difference in supplier/built quality.

If all Studio 17 notebooks have such a bad quality keyboard, this is a deal breaker for me. Still it’s 2008 and I haven’t seen a notebook with such a bad quality keyboard, even the cheapest 15” Inspiron 1501 on display had a better quality keyboard.

Anyone with a Studio 17, please share your experience.

Dell :: E6500 Keyboard Flex

Oct 13, 2009

got this (invoice date 9/23) for home office & we're setting it up but noticed the palmrest & particularly the keyboard have a degree of mush flex that I never experienced with any other notebook, is this much Flex normal for E6500 or should I exchange-return it? (as seen somewhat in youtube video of another E6500 owner below; keyboard caves like pressing a bouncy ball, more the closer the keys are to the center)?:

What is Keyboard Flex?

Keyboard flex? monitor flex?

Tech Support told me the flex is normal to withstand stress better & keyboard replacement may not make it any different & that the return policy is 21 days (today-tomorrow) but Customer care assured me it's 30 days so I should have until next week by Oct 22.

"New Vostro, OptiPlex, Latitude, and Dell Precision systems purchased directly from divisions designated by Dell as Commercial or Public may be returned within 30 days from the date on the packing slip or invoice."

Dell :: Do Recent Studio 14z's Still Have Excessive Keyboard Flex?

Oct 26, 2009

I have been trying to read thru the gazillion posts in the 14z owner's lounge - but there are too many! Anyways, I have decided to sell my ASUS G50Vt so I'm thinking about a Studio 14z.

About the only drawback I can think of is several reviewers have commented that the keyboard flexes too much.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Flex :: Keyboard Not Working?

Jul 18, 2014

I just bought a Lenovo Yoga 2 pro and installed windows 8.1 by itsef. During Windows 8.1 initial setup I was able to use keyboard to type in PC Name, but after that the keyboard and touch pad was not working/no any response any more. After Windows 8.1 lunched the keyboard also no any response. I have to use touch screen soft keyboard. But when laptop in BIOS mode (turn power off and press a small round button next to power button) the keyboard was working fine. So I think that the keyboard hardware is ok, but some thing iwas wrong with Windows 8.1 software issue. I also un-selected all on Easy of Access->Keyboard section in Windows 8.1.

Lenovo Yoga Flex :: Keyboard Backlight Will Not Turn Off On Y2P

May 20, 2014

I've owned my Y2P for the last 3 or 4 months now.  Keyboard backlight always turned off/on with Fn Spacebar just fine... until today.  Fn+Space just gets the keyboard backlight to flash off for a second, and then back on.

Also I checked and all of the other Fn keys work.  Also the Caps Lock light doesn't come on either.

And if that's not all, My power indicator light is amber even when fully charged.  (solid, not blinking)

I have a Yoga 2 11.  It seems that all of a sudden that Lenovo Transition is not disabling the mouse and keyboard until the computer is in the full tablet mode.  It used to disable these features in stand mode so when the computer is sitting on the keyboard, it's not pressing any keys. But it's not working anymore. I have uninstalled the program, re-downloaded the software from lenovo, installed it, and also checked for updates.  I also tried both drivers for windows 8 and 8.1 ....

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Flex :: Keyboard Is Not Enabled When Opening The Display Lid After Standby?

Sep 14, 2014

My Yoga 2 Pro has very often problems to activate the keyboard when I open the display.

This is what I do:

- working with the Yoga 2 Pro
- close all applications and after that I close the display
- after a while (can be a few minutes or several hours) I open the display
- it take a few seconds until the display is turned on (that's expected)
- in at least 50% the keyboard stays deactivated. The backlight can't be turned and the notebook does not notice any pressed key. I'm unable to log in :-(

- I need to close the display again, need to wait a few seconds - and when I open the display for a second time, the keyboard gets activated - not always, but most often. But sometime the keyboard stays disabled although I try the described procedure many time. If that happens I need to reboot the machine.

All drivers are updated.

Lenovo Yoga 13 Flex :: Windows 8.1 - Physical Keyboard And Sound Disabled

Oct 24, 2013

So I love my Lenovo yoga until I upgraded to windows 8.1 then all of a sudden every time I signed into my computer via Microsoft account my keyboard and audio would be completely disabled I called Lenovo support they connected to my computer went through all of my settings and uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, nothing his last guess was to tell me to restore my computer.

So I did and as my laptop ramped up it asked to sign into a Microsoft account so I did (keep in mind this computer is fully functional after the restore everything works perfect) as soon as I hit the enter key the keyboard and audio become disabled fully disabled my, physical keyboard. Since the computer worked great right after the restore I also know that it is not a hardware issue as I have already sent it out to get all the sensors replaced its a software problem that revolves around my Microsoft account who do I talk to about this Lenovo? Or Microsoft? Lenovo just keeps telling me that I need to restore my computer completely ignoring the exact issues I am describing ,and as far as Microsoft account, this is not something I control I only own the account Microsoft manages it so why is my Microsoft account disabling my keyboard, again I stress I have done every single driver check there is I have uninstalled all of them and reinstalled.

I have looked through my settings as well as had a technician remotely control my computer to confirm that the computer is in perfect working order no settings out of place and then I restored all my settings to default and then restored the computer and everything works great until I enter my Microsoft account email and password  then my keyboard becomes disabled instantaneously. And yes I was able to sign in using the keyboard

Dell :: M6400 And The M6400 Covet? Whats The Difference?

Jul 17, 2009

Yup me again, in my hunt to determine if M6400 is right for me as it costs just about as much as a used car, I want to make sure its a good investment before I buy it.

What is the main difference with the M6400 and the M6400 Covet?

I configured both with the same specs and the Covet is about $900 more in price?

Does orange paint really cost that much?

Apple :: Late 2008 MBP Keyboard - Left Side Of The Keyboard Feels Mushy

Mar 11, 2009

I've had my MBP for about 4 month now and have been having problems with its keyboard since I bought it. First, the "Z" key sank in (I think there was a problem with the spring). I took it to the Apple Store, and they "fixed" on the spot (it's much harder to press and only registered a key press 70% of the time). The lower right corner of the "E" has noticeably sunk in, and I need to resort to pressing the upper left corner. Also, the left side of the keyboard feels "mushy", not hugely so, but definitely noticeable after typing a few sentences. Can I request that Apple just replace the entire keyboard instead of just individual keys?

Is it possible to change the Acer 1810T keyboard to a thinkpad one?

Are they the same size? Could it work?

I love the Acer, just not its keyboard and miss the thinkpad keyboard - which really encourages typing. The acer really doesn't.

If the thinkpad keyboard isn't possible, what else might be?

It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).

Dell :: My M6400

Oct 23, 2008

my M6400 is here - just wanted to post some first impressions.

X9100 - 3.06ghz
4GB DDR3
Quadro 3700M
1440x900 WXGA+
Wireless 5300
Bluetooth 370
DVD+RW slot load
Silver Color
Backlit keyboard
Webcam
2x 80GB 5400rpm drives

2 Intel X25-M 80GB SSD drives will be replacing those 80GB's.

First - my first thoughts are that this system is Fantastic!

The screen is great - its an LG, fantastic colors, no dead pixels. Typical viewing angles for non LED screen, not great, but not noticeably bad either.

No noticeable bleeding, no graininess - very happy with the screen.

Ran 3Dmark 06 (1280x800, stock drivers) - 11,619

GPU temp was around 80 C - not bad at all.

So far, very happy. Putting the SSD ddrives in now - will post more thoughts as I do more. Will post pics ASAP.

Update 1: 2 80GB SSDs are in place - this has Intel's Matrix Storage which allows the creation of one RAID1 volume (which I will use for valuable data) and a RAID0 volume for the rest of the space - this is very nice - get the benefits of both types of RAID in one system!

Update 2: The power brick is completely absurd. Its HUGE - 210W. The good news is that I plugged in a 130W from a M4400 and although I get the popup about the AC adapter not being at least 150W, it does charge the battery and allow the system to run. To me, this is an acceptable alternative to lugging around the giant brick, at least for most things on the road - Later on, I will test the system with this adapter and see what kind of slowdown is caused.

Pics:

RAID Setup:

Next to a M4400 (that I believe I'll be returning very shortly):

Next to an older E1705 - these are virtually the exact same size - its astounding what new tech can cram into the same space

Dell :: Dead M6400

May 27, 2009

Whilst working away at my desk, M6400 docked it just powered down.

Pressing the power button causes it (the power button) to light briefly and then go out. Pressing FN+Power (as requested by Dell Tech) does nothing at all.

I've tried it with another PSU (I got 2, one with M6400, other with docking station) - and if you plug the PSU in, and then hit power on the laptop - the blue light on the PSU goes out - and doesn't come back on till the power is cycled. The M6400 does nothing during all of this.

The PSUs work just fine with my D820.

Dell techs are coming tomorrow to fix it. I'll let you know what they say!

but the Dell M6400 seems to around 11,600+/-. Odd considering the Dell M6400 is a more powerful system?
