Dell :: Fan Wouldn't Start On Boot Up

Since I updated the BIOS to A15, I experienced a louder fan. So I turned off the computer and blew out the dust by blowing into the fins on the backside. Lots of dust came through the fan then.
When I turned the computer back on everything was very quiet... and also slow... 'til I realized the fan did not turn on at all!
The moment I recognized that I forced the computer off to avoid damage due to overheating.
Why would the fan not turn on after my little "basic" cleaning? Do you guys experience more fan noise since A15 too?

HP dv2500t with nVidia overheating problem about 2 years ago. About 3 months after my 2-year extended warranty expired, my laptop started having problems with the screen that split into 8 parts and showed lines running across. Unfortunately, HP was of no help since my laptop wasn't on the list of those recalled and asked me to pay an extra $400 to get it repaired.
After doing research on the net, including this site, about this problem, I decided to replace the motherboard myself. I ordered an exactly the same motherboard that came with the same nVidia chip from a reputable seller who specialized in selling used motherboards. He assured me that it was tested and even recommended adding a piece of copper on top of nVidia chip. So I carefully took apart the laptop, added a piece of copper that came with the new MB using instructions posted on this forum (with Arctic silver 5) and reassembled it.
To my surprise, the laptop wouldn't power up. When I plugged the charger, the blue LED light would go on both the front side and the right side where the charger goes. And then there were no other signs of life from the laptop. I thought maybe I didn't connect some wires properly. So I disassembled and reassembled the laptop 2 more times. All to no avail.

The Travelmate business line of computers that are based off of the Timeline series have discrete ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4330 graphics cards. I think there are even some models in the European market that have the ATI graphics card.
Do you think it would be possible to install a graphics card like the HD 4330 into a 3810T (13.3" Timeline) or a 4810T (14.1" Timeline) notebook?
Is it even possible to do this with any notebook?
I'm leaning towards a 4810T as my first choices (the Asus P30A and Acer Travelmate 8371) have not been invited to the Canadian market. The only thing that holds me back is the integrated graphics card. Should I hold my breath and wait for a Timeline notebook with a discrete graphics card?
Why would Acer be reluctant to release a Timeline esque notebook in North America with a discrete graphics card? The ATI card doesn't suck up that much power.

I usually just leave my laptop on overnight, and it just goes to sleep/hibernation mode then. But when i went to go turn on my laptop, you can see the lights on my laptop turn on but the screen stayed black.

I have a Dell 5720 and in the summer, its motherboard and keyboard got replaced due to short circuit problems. Since then, every time I press the Power button, the laptop starts to load correctly but suddenly turns off during the boot process. If I press the Power button on a second time, the laptop loads perfectly.
I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed and the booting process reaches the grub where I can select in which one I want to boot. I can even select something from the list, but then the laptop turns off (not because I select something, but I think because I have a few seconds before it shuts down). If I turn it on again, everything is fine. I can select anything from the grub's boot list and it won't turn off. It boots into any desired OS and works like there's no problem
I've just run hardware diagnostics and all tests passed.One of my friend said that it has a driver problem because the motherboard got replaced and this is why it's shuts down the first boot.
Another observation: if I do this 'twice turn-on' boot and use my laptop for a while and I turn it off and I turn it on again in a short time after the turn off, it boot correctly.

can't get my laptop to boot up/start. No sounds. No beeps. No nothing. Power cord indicates it is working fine. Battery should be charged since I rarely operate it under the battery. Has been running fine, no problems, I paused a movie and since then it is completely dark and not operating. Really disappointing since it is my main computer that I use every day.

I have recently purchased Dell Studio 1558 second hand. On pressing the power button the laptop is beeping continuously for 6 times stops and starts beeping continuously again for 6 times and stops beeping...screen blank....From the dell studio 1558 manual available online I think it is a Video Card Failure. Is this a video card failure?

In mid November 2012 my laptop Inspiron Midi 1012 (with window 7 starter) suddenly stopped booting up.Â
I press the power button and I get the Dell Inspiron page & loading bar where I can also select F2 for set up & F12 for boot options or simply wait for boot up
Another page will appear (if I just wait at the Dell Inspiron logo page with loading bar) saying windows did not shut down succesfully. If this was due to the system not responding, or if the system was shut down.... & ask me to select booting option between safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode prompt or start windows normally.
I tried selecting every mode but to no notable result the only things that happens is that the Microsoft Corporation logo appears with a loading bar for 2-3 seconds then the screen will turn back and only my white arrow will be visible on the screen. Â At this time, no keys & short cut keys will work. The light of my computer is till on, I can still see some luminosity on the black screen. I can move the arrow around on my screen. The black screen won't change if I let it be for minutes or hours, no windows will pop up if I put a usb memory stick or plug my external cd/dvd player in the usb outlet.
I tried to use a usb transfer cable between my tower pc & my laptop Inspiron Mini but it doesn't work since windows doesn't boot on my laptop.Â
I tried F12 (boot option) when my computer start & selected diagnostic but there is no error detected (in short & long diagnostic, test memory, test system). I also tried the other booting options but to no avail (hard drive, network, ...).

Dell Inspiron 7720 (17R SE) approx 2 years old, just started having problems about a week ago when turning on the computer. LEDs flash and dell quickset buttons light up; but then process just dies, screen is black and only the LEDs by the power symbol and on power buttons are lit, never reaches the Dell logo screen, no fan sounds or anything.
At first, hitting the power button to turn off then back on and the second time the boot process would work. Then it failed to do that, so I had to remove the battery, pull the power cord and hold the power button down for 30 sec's, and then it would boot normal. Now even that does not work, just have to keep powering down and re-powering and after a random number of times, 10-30 it finally boots normal, every once in while it will work first try. It seems to be getting worse.Â
I have used the Dell Diagnostic on boot (though it took many tries to get into the ePSA, that did not detect any problems. When I use the Dell Support Advanced, no problems detected, and I specifically rand the Motherboard (which included CMOS test) and those did not find any problems.
If I put the computer in sleep, it comes back fine. It is only when I shut down, laptop just will not boot until I hit power on (fail) / power off repeatedly until finally, as if by luck it works fine.

Xps m1530 with windows vista . When I could boot the laptop after a while it then shut off. I did run diagnostics, all passed. I run virus scan - all ok. i updated all drivers and now can not get pass the black screen.

When I try to turn it on I'll just get a black screen. The fan will start but will stop eventually. When I try to hard reset it it won't turn off the fan will just start again. I have to plug out the AC so I can be able to power it again. And also last thing I remember is that the clock is not always on sync whenever I start it.

My computer doesn't seem to start up anymore. It only enters the "Boot menu" tab with no further information. When I'm trying to press "Enter" it just returns back to same screen again. Is my harddrive broken? Is there some reset button available anywhere on the device?

Now that the new Sony Z is out, I think it would meaningful to get a sense of the boot time for this system under various scenarios.
If people could post the boot times of their Z with this information:
- Whether you're calculating the boot with all the bloatware untouched (factory settings), with the $50 Sony Fresh Start (which still has a couple unnecessary programs), a Clean Install, or a Manual Uninstall of all programs.
- And the size of your SSD or HDD. If it is an SSD, it would be nice to know if you can tell us have many SSDs are in the RAID 0 configuration as that affects the speed.
I think this would be very helpful not just for direct comparison, but as another factor to consider in whether to do a clean install, which takes more tech-savvy than some may have.

I've dell Inspiron N5110 and I'm using it since past 3 and half years. In 2013, base of the laptop was broken and I had to replace it with a new one though there was no problem in hardware at all. Soon after the dell representative installed the new base and left my house I was facing a weird problem. When I power on the laptop, my screen gives a mild flash but does not start (6 out of 10 times, not always), but I can hear windows start up sound in the back ground. I use to press power button again to lock or stand by the laptop and then move my mouse. After performing this I can see the screen glows and log on screen shows up.
I was using my laptop like this for past 1.5 years as pressing a power button was no big deal. Today on the eve of new year, I saw my trick does not work any more. I was not able to start my screen even after repetitive attempts. But I remember I used it last night, display was really fine.Â

My Dell Studio 1555 won't start anymore. When I want to turn it on, I get a beeping signal (2 beeps) and nothing happens. I tried all possible troubleshooting tips from the dell website (disconnecting all power and hold power button, reconnect to power, checked battery with the button on the battery, all fine, can't get into bios because computer doesn't start at all) but nothing works. Recently I also checked if the motherboard is connected properly and there is no issue either.
I also purchased a new dell adapter because my old one was a little bit damaged. The adapter is like the old one, and it's originally dell and the correct one for the studio 1555 so it can't be the adapter. Laptop also doesn't start when the battery is not in and it's only connected to the power.

I'm having this extremely annoying problem with my HP Pavilion dv6-model1334us. Everytime I try to start up my laptop it always shows the menu screen saying Launch Start Up Repair or Start Windows Normally. I've tried to do a system restore multiple times, but the screen just stops on a blue screen. No it isn't the Blue Screen of Death, but it does attempt to start but fails and stands on the screen until it automatically or manually shuts down.Â

I'm trying to boot from legacy boot from my new dell 7000 series. however when i change from uefi to legacy i have no boot option. the whole boot list is empty.
i have called dell and the support desk told me dell has no support for legacy :S that means no windows 7 on my dell or any other os that uses non uefi...... i think the bios is corrupt is the whole list is simply missing.

Everyone: Absolutely cannot boot from CD-DVD even if I turn OFF Secure Boot and UEFI and my machine lists my CD-DVD as a boot option. When I then try to boot from the CD-DVD, I get an error message. (Optiplex 7010 Mini-Tower with Win 8 Pro 64-bit, an Intel i5 3470 processor, 8 GB RAM and 500 GB hard drive. It has BIOS version A16 right now.)

I got this laptop a few days ago, I currently have 7 and XP installed on it and kind of have vista...(read further down).
My 7 seemed to break today after playing around with a program called powerstrip trying to get my external monitor to show the right resolution (I've realised now the cable vga was broke, but meh) but this is not the full problem, after windows 7 failed to boot I tried to boot xp after turning it off during the windows 7 splash screen and now im stuck with a dash when I turn the laptop on (I dont know if its actully related to something I've done or not).
If I turn the laptop on a flashing dash comes on in the top right, it then stops flashing and turns into a none flashing dash further up the screen and just locks here and I cant do anything at all other than trying to restart it. When I had this problem previously (at least I think this problem) on my desktop it usualy turned out to be something usb related but I have everything unplugged (all though the bluetooth adapter light is on when it is doing this) so I realy dont know what to do...............
