So i did a little searching about TV Tuners, but i'm still a little bewildered on the topic. I basically need someone to clear up some questions I have about TV tuners. Here are a few questions:
What channels do the "antennas" that come with some tuners pick up? The same as good ol fashion bunny ears would?
If I just had a coaxial cable coming from the wall or cable box (and a functioning cable outlet) could i just connect that to the tv tuner (with the right converter) and get the basic cable channels that you would if you connected that coaxial cable straight to a tv?
im looking at buying an xps16 for gaming and schoolwork. is the i7 720qm a good processor as far as gaming goes? should i get a bluray player? are there any issues with the laptop that would be a deal breaker?
I keep hearing horror stories about consumer customer support and higher praise of business support.
My question is where does the support for a system such as the Studio XPS 16 fall in. I here that the XPS line has better support, but does that make a difference if I order it from the consumer (Home) section?
I know the system isn't that old. But you know how it is in the tech world. I have a inspiron e1705 I will list the specs below. I just wondering how many out there are still using this system faithfully. My systems is still running smoothly, but I just made a trip out to a my local tech store "Micro Center" & saw alot of new desktop replacement laptops. I've been out of the big laptop world for awhile since my everyday comp is a xps m1330 which I am thinking of selling since i just fell in love with the upcomming alienware m11x thats coming out soon since I only get about 3.5 hrs of battery on it with a 9 cell & was looking at getting a netbook but hate screens less then 11'. Well if the alienware is close to what they are predicting the m1330 is gone. But as of the e1705 its pretty much maxed out, do you think its worth selling and upgrading to something new or just sticking with it, or I wont get much for it.

This is interesting... a friend of mine just tried to order the SXPS with the i7-820 processor and got denied by Dell. Apparently, the 1645 has been fully discontinued, and Dell will no longer be placing the i7-820 processor in any SXPS form factor. They quoted that due to hardware and power issues as the reason behind discontinuing the 1645 (and replacing it with the 1647) and killing i7-820 support. The sales rep said the only offering will be the Studio series for the i7-820.
As a 1645 owner with the i7-820, this is kinda scary that this laptop has been discontinued this quickly as well as the offering of the 820 series chip. We ended up calling a second time, and another sales rep confirmed the same story.
Anyone get similar information from Dell on this? I'm also wondering if this is a "Dell Canada" thing...
I wanted to email Acer about the availability of a certain notebook, but I can't seem to find an email address I can use anywhere on their website. Does anyone know if they have one?
I'd like to replace the fan in my laptop (Dell's Latitude d830) with a faster/better one. From what I've seen, most people seem to think that this is impossible.
I, however, find this hard to believe that Dell would have included the only possible fan that's compatible with this laptop, or that this particular fan is the best possible cooling option.
Why is it so hard to upgrade in the first place? I'm sure it can be done, I've opened up my laptop a few times in the past and it's not exactly rocket science .....
I've tried to restore system to factory default by pressing Ctrl+F11 in my XPS M1210. After confirmation to proceed I got the message: General failure error 36000.
I re-installed Windows XP but I'm having troubles with drivers not installed by the Windows re-install process.Â
On my first windows install on my Zbook 17, the OS installed the System Reserved partition on the flash cache SSD. I figured I'd do a reinstall when I ordered and installed a 1tb SSD. I removed all HDDs and the flash cache, installed the OS, then turned off the computer and re-installed the flash cache. Now when I try to boot it gives me 5 blinks on the caps/num lock along with a lovely black screen.
I am considering the two following models: SR290 and Z540. My question relates to the overall build quality of these models as well as battery life with the extended battery.
Basically Im deciding between these 2 and a lenovo. The lenovo is heavier than both, is well made, and has ridiculous battery life. Just curious as to how the sony's stand up over time.
As i recall early reviews mentioned the inclusion of a WinTV Nova Integrated DVB-T Tuner. watching recent video reviews of the 1640, however..
i have noticed that the right side of the chassis seems to be absent of the antenna outlet. has this feature been removed?? because i had really been looking to make use of it...
If I chose not to get the tuner card in the system when I customise it, does it not have the ugly rubber port on the left hand side? Now that they have started charging for the tuner I think it's better off me just getting a usb tuner because then it frees up slots inside and I can take it out whenever I want and use it on any computer.
I have read a few places that you can get a tv tuner on the xps 1640, however when I go to dell's site to customize it there doesn't seem to be an option for one.
If I have a aspire 5517 what models share this webcam and microphone with emachines or other acer models? looking at a 5100 cam about like the rectangle not punched in my 5517...Think it will fit? is the Mic intergated? doesnt look like it... but I've never taken apart the bezel. Think the motherboard had extra ribbon clips for the camera thou but not sure now that it is back together...[url]
Anyways with the new digital over the air tv signal, I heard its very clear quality and was wondering, is there a good expresscard that does the job well for tv over the air? Bonus points if the AV is in sync for game systems.
I have several HP 8530p and I getting the num lock & cap lock leds blinking 5 times which indicates a general system board error. Bought new boards still getting the same issue. Note all the units will boot to windows fine, but there is a 10-15 sec delay in hard drive response when operating pc. The mouse is real time responsive but once you clink on a item the lag shows up. What to look for as the problem, CPU , Memory changed, Fans, Cooling system. Bios versions have been updated, I've torn the unit down, cleaned and added new thermal paste to CPU, GPU and added copper shims to promote better heat transfer. The system Diagnostics indicates hardware is ok.
I didn't order mine from HP , but I'm thinking of install one. Is the internal tuner more convenient? I have read some promising review about aftermarket tuners.
Also the point where the tv logo is, is covered Is there a pin connection underneath or does tht have to be purchased? Can this be removed easily for connection to cable input? I'd like to be able to use this notebook as a DVR.
I'm trying to get my HP Tv tuner to work right with my dv7 laptop. Hopefully you guys can give me some insight.
First off, either Quickplay doesn't read the tuner at all, or I'm not setting it up right. In the Quickplay TV area, I get no option to view live tv (although I see the option on the left side) and it merely provides a promotional image to buy the tuner.
For Media Center, it works. However its unbelievably complicated to go through channels.
First of all, EVERY SINGLE *point* digital channel (like 4.2, 7.3, 18.2, etc) doesn't come in automatically aside from the .1's. That means I have to manually add every single other channel. Is that normal? Second, all those digital channels are high definition yet they show up in 4:3. Why is that? Third, though this one isn't a big deal, all the channels are listed in the thousands, making it very confusing.
how i can install the internal tv tuner into the 6930...i have the spot where the whole can be popped out does anyone know hot to install it? like how much do i have to take apart or the part number for the US version of the tuner..
i've already did a bunch of upgrades thanks to this site!
