View 6 RepliesI am using a Wireless lan long range usb adapter from Engeniustech called EUB-362EXT product. I entered the mac address in the firmware of my router and any place in my house I can pick up a wireless signal. This device will pick up a wifi signal and amplify it so all I do is connect the EUB-362EXT unit to a strong antenna and I can pick up a signal in my basement but the router is on my second floor.
I would like to use the same setup on my laptop when I am on the road because the internal wifi of the laptop is weak. I can disable the internal wifi but would like to know how I can create a a wifi network profile in my laptop that will allow me to enter the mac address of the adapter. I am using Windows XP sp2.
I modify the value of "localy administrated MAC" in the broadcom 802.11g wireless adapter properties.
But when I ask Windows the mac address, it shows me the original MAC of my adapter.
the OS is Vista Home Premium(32 bits) and I have the latest driver.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop had to be replaced by Dell a second time within the last four years recently. I shipped it in and it took about a week and they placed an order to begin processing a shipment for a replacement. The replacement shipped out on Thursday. I had to do my own investigating to get a tracking number because the reps were useless.
I go to FedEx to check the number and find out its getting overnighted (YES!) but then to my horror, I noticed it's getting this to an old address I lived at YEARS ago. The thing I find funny about this is that, even when the laptop was replaced the first time, nothing was shipped to that address it was shipped to me at school. When I received the box to ship in my current unit to repair, it was sent to my current address. I have no clue where they got this address .....
I need the static IP address so I can't disable write a random IP address, but I don't want the employee going online on these computers.
I can't also use parnteal control because, for some reson, it stops my main program from working.
I'd like to contact Apple on the mac mini with Snow Leopard Server to get some more information on it but I can't seem to find an email address that I can direct my concerns about the product to.
Does anyone have an email contact they may respond to or is the only way of reaching them going to be by phone?
I know it sounds Outlook-ish, but I think it'd be nice to be able to have my calendar and contacts show within Apple Mail -- that way, everything is right there in one window, and any changes I make are synced to Gmail / GCal, since that's the source of my calendar and contacts.
Have only found one reference to a since-defunct piece of software. Can this be done, preferably via freeware -- or even software options I missed?
I'm having problems with my m1730 and I'd like to get a replacement, but of course the low-on-the-totem-pole service techs are telling me no according to their script. I need to escalate that problem but they won't put me through to their supervisors, nor will they give me any phone numbers.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought a Dell laptop back in August of this year and sometime in September I registered my system for a Win 7 upgrade. It seems like everyone has put in their order now but I have yet to receive a notifying email.
I do have the confirmation email back in Sept from Dell.com that confirmed my service tag was registered...but I've heard nothing from then since.
Does anyone know anything about the timeline? Or what I should do?

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I am in email, and typing along, the font size displayed will change while I am typing. It will get really big or really small and acts like it has a mind of it's own. It only happens when I am typing emails, and happens in both Yahoo and Gmail.
It just happened again when I am typing this question, so it appears to be if I am in the internet. It does not happen in a word document.
Is there a way to stop this from happening? Am I hitting some speed-key combinations and just don't know it?
How can i change the email quicklaunch button to open an email client other than outlook.I set mozilla's thunderbird as my default email client during its installation, but the quicklaunch button still opens outlook.
I'm running windows 7 32bit.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. I find it jumps back in my typing either several words or lines and types from there.
I seem to hit two keys simultaneously and it makes the email send. Usually these are the keys g & h and have also seen it happen when connecting with the letter B.
Anyone know why this laptop keyboard does this and how can I stop it?
I applies for an ownership change for a precision a couple of weeks back, havent heard from dell.
View 6 Replies View RelatedNew HP Pavilion 17-FO61US laptop mail AP worked for a couple of days after adding 2 accounts. But today after going into both accounts and changing some settings, including unclicking sync options, I'm stuck on the 'Add your e-mail accounts' page and can't find how to get back to inbox. Tried restarting, but clicking on mail still brings up same 'Add accounts' page. Start page shows e-mails coming in, so accounts are still there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyone notice any difference going from A10 to A11 on an SXPS 1640?
Also, do BIOS updates have to be incremental? Can I say go from A10 to A14 when it's out, or I must go A10, 11, 12, 13, 14?
What type of OS do you have running on your M1210.
-Windows Vista
-Windows XP
-Windows XP MCE

I keep hearing horror stories about consumer customer support and higher praise of business support.
My question is where does the support for a system such as the Studio XPS 16 fall in. I here that the XPS line has better support, but does that make a difference if I order it from the consumer (Home) section?
So i did a little searching about TV Tuners, but i'm still a little bewildered on the topic. I basically need someone to clear up some questions I have about TV tuners. Here are a few questions:
What channels do the "antennas" that come with some tuners pick up? The same as good ol fashion bunny ears would?
If I just had a coaxial cable coming from the wall or cable box (and a functioning cable outlet) could i just connect that to the tv tuner (with the right converter) and get the basic cable channels that you would if you connected that coaxial cable straight to a tv?
I know the system isn't that old. But you know how it is in the tech world. I have a inspiron e1705 I will list the specs below. I just wondering how many out there are still using this system faithfully. My systems is still running smoothly, but I just made a trip out to a my local tech store "Micro Center" & saw alot of new desktop replacement laptops. I've been out of the big laptop world for awhile since my everyday comp is a xps m1330 which I am thinking of selling since i just fell in love with the upcomming alienware m11x thats coming out soon since I only get about 3.5 hrs of battery on it with a 9 cell & was looking at getting a netbook but hate screens less then 11'. Well if the alienware is close to what they are predicting the m1330 is gone. But as of the e1705 its pretty much maxed out, do you think its worth selling and upgrading to something new or just sticking with it, or I wont get much for it.

Which one I need and whereabouts I need to check inside the laptop to see if I have the slot available? I am capable of doing this sort of stuff as I have built my own PC, just don't normally do anything to laptops (other than install an illuminated keyboard in this)
Will it work if I just add the module and install the driver?
im looking at buying an xps16 for gaming and schoolwork. is the i7 720qm a good processor as far as gaming goes? should i get a bluray player? are there any issues with the laptop that would be a deal breaker?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my first windows install on my Zbook 17, the OS installed the System Reserved partition on the flash cache SSD. I figured I'd do a reinstall when I ordered and installed a 1tb SSD. I removed all HDDs and the flash cache, installed the OS, then turned off the computer and re-installed the flash cache. Now when I try to boot it gives me 5 blinks on the caps/num lock along with a lovely black screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am considering the two following models: SR290 and Z540. My question relates to the overall build quality of these models as well as battery life with the extended battery.
Basically Im deciding between these 2 and a lenovo. The lenovo is heavier than both, is well made, and has ridiculous battery life. Just curious as to how the sony's stand up over time.
I'd like to replace the fan in my laptop (Dell's Latitude d830) with a faster/better one. From what I've seen, most people seem to think that this is impossible.
I, however, find this hard to believe that Dell would have included the only possible fan that's compatible with this laptop, or that this particular fan is the best possible cooling option.
Why is it so hard to upgrade in the first place? I'm sure it can be done, I've opened up my laptop a few times in the past and it's not exactly rocket science .....
I've tried to restore system to factory default by pressing Ctrl+F11 in my XPS M1210. After confirmation to proceed I got the message: General failure error 36000.
I re-installed Windows XP but I'm having troubles with drivers not installed by the Windows re-install process.
I have several HP 8530p and I getting the num lock & cap lock leds blinking 5 times which indicates a general system board error. Bought new boards still getting the same issue. Note all the units will boot to windows fine, but there is a 10-15 sec delay in hard drive response when operating pc. The mouse is real time responsive but once you clink on a item the lag shows up. What to look for as the problem, CPU , Memory changed, Fans, Cooling system. Bios versions have been updated, I've torn the unit down, cleaned and added new thermal paste to CPU, GPU and added copper shims to promote better heat transfer. The system Diagnostics indicates hardware is ok.
