Dell :: Inspiron 1505 And 6400 Keyboard(s)
Jun 23, 2009I have a question. I'm trying to figure out if the inspiron 1505 and the inspiron 6400 have identical keyboards?
basically, i bought a 6400 a few years ago, it's still under warranty. It got stolen not long after i bought it.
I got my GF a 1505 and considering it was so cheap i didn't bother with an extended plan. now her keyboard is having problems.
So, basically i want to know if i can call dell and get them to send me a 6400 keyboard, (because it's under warranty), then put it in the 1505? then just send them the 1505 keyboard back?

Mar 25, 2010In the forefront we can see the hinge, and in the background we can see the piece behind the hinge (PBTH) - I have no idea what to call it, so from now on it will refer to it as the PBTH. =)
Ok, the problem I've had - for years - is that the PBTH does not stay where it is supposed to stay.. the three plugs do not stay in their holes. This has caused the outer plastic part of the LCD cover to split when I close the lid.
After a few years of this, the bezel cracked on me... so I decide to get a new bezel, and I tried to fix the hinge problem.
I'm not sure what mechanism was used to keep those 3 prongs in their holes, but I was going to try contact cement (for a lack of better ideas) - if you have any other ideas, please let me know.
But now my problem is this:
Last night I glued the PBTH into place, put everything back together..tried close the lid - was met with major resistance - and the glue/PBTH bond broke.

Nov 10, 2008I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop two years old Windows XP 80GB HD
I notice that my C drive has a capacity of 51.2GB while my D drive has a capacity of16.8 for a total of 68GB. Now I know that I should only expect around 74GB due to the decimal vs. binary issue. But I wonder where is the other 6GB (74-68)? After reading many posts, I am assuming it is on a hidden partition. Thus my questions are...
1. If there is a hidden partition, can I get rid of this partition somehow to get me another 6GB? I am pretty much maxed out on HD so I could use every bit of possible. When I bought the laptop, I made sure to get the reinstall disks. So I have a disk that says "Operating System- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with Update Rollup 2" and a second disk that says "Drivers and Utilities - For Reinstalling Dell Insiron and Dell XPS Computer Software". So I assume that whatever is on the hidden partition is the same as on the disks, and thus I could get rid of the partition. Agree?
2. If folks suggest keeping the partition, or when I run out of HD again, is it fairly easy to add HD GB to the 1505? Again, I have read tons of posts and it seems pretty simple, even for a newbie like me. Is it pretty easy? I'll probably start a different post if I get to this step.

Dell :: Hard Drive For 1505
Nov 19, 2008I am attempting to upgrade the hard drive on my Dell 1505 laptop. It has 80GB which is now filled. I want to get a 160GB, 200GB or perhaps even higher (if not too expensive) and have searched the threads here, and researched sites like Newegg to get an idea of what is out there. I wanted to spend around $100 or so. I know I need SATA but other than that, I am wondering..
1. Should I get 1.5 Gb/s or 3.0 Gb/s? What does this mean?
2. Should I get 5400 or 7200? It seems 7200 is a bit more expensive. (Currently I have 5400 and am happy with it.) Not sure I'd notice the difference with 7200.
3. What brands should I look at? Hitachi, Seagate, WD etc. Any to stay away from?
4. Most importantly, based on all of this, any specific suggestions? ...
Dell :: 1505 Wireless N-Mini For Inspiron 1525 Laptop
Jan 2, 2009I just purchased an Inspiron 1525 Laptop it came with the 1505 Wireless N-MINI card. I have a wireless network with the Linksys Model# WRK54G. This network is secured.
I set up connection as WPA-Personal with TKIP, this mirrors my Dell desktop that connects, however it is a G level wireless card. I can not connect to the network even though the signal is excellent.
It may be obvious the fact that the wireless card in the laptop is an N an the router is a G. Will this work or do I have to get the 1395 802 11G Mini wireless card
Dell Inspiron 1505 :: Freezing / Error Code M1004
Jun 30, 2011I have an Inspiron 1505 about five years old. Lately my computer has been freezing and shutting down for no reason. I can be just reading and it'll freeze. This isn't the first time it has been happening. Back in April I had the same problem. The error message indicated that my hard drive was going bad so it was replaced. Now it's doing it again. This time I got error code M1004. From what I read, this is something about heating. What I have noticed is that the bottom of my laptop runs extremely hot. Will getting a cooling pad?

Mar 31, 2013I have an INSPIRON E1505 with Windows XP. The McAfee protection was not working properly, so I contacted customer service. They checked my computer and said that I should contact the computer manufacturer because I have errors on CHKDSK. I've done some research on this website, but have not been able to find a solution yet.
I ran the full Dell PC diagnostics, and everything passed except my battery.
I used this page [URL].... to guide me through chkdsk, running it from "my computer" and choosing "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors." Phase 2 appeared to be nearly down when I received the prompt, "Windows was unable to complete the disk check."
I'm not sure if this matters, but the computer was not used for 2 years from 2009-2011, as I was out of the country. After I got it running again and ran updates, it seemed to be working just fine until I recently discovered this issue with McAfee.
Dell :: XPS 16 Hinge
Feb 7, 2010I have an XPS m1330 and it's cool but I dont like it because the hinge is naturally too loose so when I use it with my always-on carry case the screen just falls down and closes the lid when I'm lying on my bed due to gravity.
I also have a 1520 and the hinge is so stiff its awesome! You really need force to close it which is what I like!
Well I'm thinking of getting the XPS 16 and it looks like the same hinge design of the m1330 so I just want to know for those people who own the XPS 16 if the hinge is easily closed or not because if it is then I cant buy it.

Apr 10, 2009my 1640 has a bit of a loose left hinge. I've read that a few others have had this problem as well. It's more of an aesthetic thing than functional, but it's worn on me, and I want to know if it's something I should be concerned about.
So, I set about contacting Dell via email. Turns out, my hardware support warranty has expired. Now, this is interesting, because I ordered it on 3/22/09, and received it 4/2/09. I have 353 days left of next-day business service, and 353 days of Premium XPS Technical Support (if that's what the P stands for on the warranty status).
I can't figure out how to contact this XPS Technical support...and, according to the website, I couldn't unless I ponied up some cash, anyway.
Dell :: Disable XPS Lights On Screen Hinge?
Dec 13, 2009I know it's kinda dumb but it's annoyingly bright when I've got the computer on at night and it's busy converting video or doing other work. It's also less power used.
It can't be done through software but has anyone physically unplugged them? I've not opened up the case yet so I don't know how practical that would be, thought I'd ask around first.
Dell :: Dodgy Hinge On M1330 And M1530
Sep 18, 2008I was at the Dell shop in Hong Kong the other day and had a close look at the XPS M1530, and frankly I was quite dissapointed by the loose/faulty hinge, as in part of the rotation is very loose, if you know what I mean.
What worries me is that Dell uses the same or similar hinge design on other models (Studio series, Inspiron 13), so just out of interest, who here already suffer from hinge issues with their XPS M1330/1530?

May 19, 2009My Dell 1505 wireless N card is a constant headache, If I hide my ssid the card detects and connects to my router but I can never access the internet. It may work sometimes but most of the time my SSID has to be on.
I have tested this with two different routers and the results were the same, vista shows local access only

Acer :: 5920g Hinge
Feb 15, 2009I have a 5920g computer which I adore, sadly we always hurt the ones we love, I dropped it and broke the right hinge, because of that the plastic frame of the monitor ripped 2. It still works perfectly fine, but its annoying as hell to watch my lappy like this all the time. I called acer, and found a provider who can repair it for 400 dlrs (I payed 1000 dlrs for the lap) so well, its seem outrageous to me paying 40% of the total price for a hinge replace.
Anyway, I found the hinge and the other parts on Ebay singapore, for less tan 100 dlrs. So, heres my question, does anyone know how hard is it to replace this parts, I am a mildy medium kinda handy guy, with some hardware skills. So anyone know if this is hard, is there a guide around that can show me the process, or should I just pay the 400 dlrs and get this thing done.
Acer :: 5920crack Near Hinge
Oct 20, 2008Our Acer 5920 is less than a year old, but not by much so I gotta make a decision soon. I'm hoping to get some help from you folks.
There's a little crack in the frame surrounding the LCD screen. I attached an image.
This laptop has seen very limited use. I use a strong, well padded case when transporting.
I called Acer. A gal said I can send it to them, they'll make a determination whether it's covered or not, if not they'll call me and tell me how much it'd cost to fix, etc.
I'm not thrilled about sending it to Temple, Texas. Besides, what are the chances Acer will do the right thing and fix it?
Has anyone seen this kind of damage?
whether it's mostly cosmetic? I'm assuming the plastic shell doesn't actually do much, and that there's a metal hinge underneath that does most of the real work, but I can't tell for sure and have never taken apart a laptop.

Mar 12, 2009I purchased a fw235j notebook about two months ago and the circular hinge near the charge port popped out so that it sticking out very loose, preventing me from shutting my computer. I think it happened because of the tension of the charger plugged into it. Sort of hard to exlpain, but if you own this notebook you know what part I'm talking about. (And if you don't own it i would recommend against it just because of this serious design flaw lol).
Has this happened to anyone else with a fw235j? If so what did you do to fix it? I tried forcing the piece back in so that i could shut the comp but that isn't working. It looks like a little plastic piece might have snapped off but it's so small that I can't tell for sure. I imagine this could be a pretty common problem because of the way this piece was designed. I mean, mine broke after 2 months of normal use (no falls or anything).
anyway, my computer is still functioning fine-it can still charge, its shuts down and boots up fine. but because of that piece it won't shut which is more than just a little bit annoying.
Apple :: MBP 13 Inch Hinge Squeaks
Dec 17, 2009i have only had my MBP 13 for a few months and thinking of giving my dell to my business partner. When i open the screen and then let it sit for a few seconds then attempt to open it a little more it squeaks and crackles sometimes like it was stuck in place. Does this happen to any of you and it is a problem that i should take it to apple for? Any solutions because it feels like i am going to break something sometimes when opening the screen a little more. Like a plastic rubbing against metal sound when something is too tight.

Mar 16, 2010i dropped my netbook last night and cracked the left hinge. the hinge itself actually seems like a two piece and snapped back together, however it looks like it completely broke off the body.
the netbook looks like it still works, but im wondering what my options are, if any?
im assuming the standard acer warranty doesn't cover this...is it worth trying to fix myself, or is that even possible? should i just pray it keeps working and just hope for the best?
Sony :: Vaio FW Broken LCD Barrel Hinge
Jan 6, 2010the hinge on the left side of my Vaio FW290 laptop just broke, and it's conveniently 1 month after my warranty ended - not that they would have covered it anyways, they probably would have called it physical damage and not under warranty. The hinge is completely seperate from the body and it just flops around, and that's not good considering it is where the power cord plugs into the laptop. I want to replace it, and I have no problem doing it myself, but I don't know exactly what part(s) to get.

Sony :: Vaio SR Cracked Cylinder/hinge
May 2, 2009I recently dropped my laptop from about a foot from the ground and the cylinder that connects the laptop to the lcd has cracked in 3 spots (1 major and two really tiny cracks) It seems as if the actual hinge to the lcd is still in good condition however. I have the extended warranty however I didn't buy the accidental damage protection. . The power button/cylinder had gotten dislodged a few months ago and i figure I can get these both fixed at the same time. . . Does anyone know how much sony would charge to fix/ know a way to get them to do the repairs for free?

Sep 12, 2009I just received my HDX18t yesterday and noticed that the upper and lower hinge cover does not fit together. In fact it looks like the factory pried it back open - look at attached photo. I called the HDX support line who transferred my to sales who transferred me back to the HDX support line just to find out that I have to send in my laptop to get it fixed in stead of them just sending me the part. The problem is only cosmetic so I don't want to have to send my new computer away for several weeks! Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you think if I talk to the right person at HP they'll just send me the part?

HP was fixing this issue at no charge but not anymore. The warranty program has expired on May 31, 2009.

Make sure to use correct hinges. They are different for LCDs with single lamp and LCDs with dual lamp.
