Jan 8, 2015Just got my Inspiron 5748. Requested a backlit keyboard. Didn't get one even though i was told i had to buy the 17" in order to get the backlit keyboard. I also requested Microsoft Word which is not installed. I guess that i have to download the software from the internet which i do not have access to on a regular basis.

Jul 12, 2014Ever since I updated my software from windows 8 to windows 8.1 I lost all the features displayed on the windows mobility center related to the cutomized section from dell. I had to download the drivers to get the gestures configurations for the mousepad, the same happened with the audio drivers I downloaded both from the dell site, but i can't control the usage of the backlight of my keyboard, It turns off like every 20 seconds when there's no activity, and I want to configure it differently and get back the cutomized section of the mobility center,

Apr 12, 2013Keyboard backlit stopped working (it used to work earlier). In BIOS the keyboard is now defined as a nonbacklight (BIOS was updated by L521XA13W.exe from dell.com/support/drivers), not sure how it was defined while working...
I've looked for a solution at community.dell.com/support-forums: - pressing Fn+F6 doesn't switch it on,- launching BacklitKB.exe from QuickSet says the backlight is on but it's not (I can adjust brightness, timing, turn it off/on but it still won't work),- reinstalling the QuickSet doesn't work,- Windows Mobility Center lists the backlit keyboard, but doesn't bring it on;- putting it to sleep and waking it up also doesn't work as well as restarting it.

Nov 4, 2014Original Win 8 Pro, then updated to 8.1 Pro, the back lit keyboard works OK. However since I refreshed the system due to the hangs up problem at start up, the back lit key board stops working. Re-updated the OS back to 8.1 Pro again still not solve the issue.Does the backlit key board need special driver ? The device manager shows the keyboard as standard PS2

Feb 4, 2015so this precision was originally a non baclit keyboard and recently replaced it with a backlit and the right arrow key does not work. I have checked every ribbon on this keyboard and everything is snug. I am running windows 8.1. Am I missing something here. Is it a hardware or software issue i need to look into?

Jan 23, 2015This morning my HP Omen arrived in the mail, fully functional with everything in tact. After I left my laptop to install the updates from the HP Support Assistant (One of those updates being a BIOS update), I came back to find my computer restarted and my backlit keyboard not working. After trying to use the HP OMEN Control to fix the keyboard, I found that the keyboard will flash briefly when I click "Apply To All Zones", but then immediately turns off again. Is there any way to fix this Backlit Keyboard issue ir can we see an update in the near future that fixes this issue?

Aug 16, 2009I got a Dell Studio 1737 through the Dell Outlet, and after a little while the Num Lock light stopped working. The button still turns it on and off, and I've been debating calling and having to deal with them to get a replacement. Another option I've been thinking about is replacing it outright with the backlit keyboard.
My question is this. What will doing this outside of Dell do to the warranty? The Caps Lock light does still come on, so I'm thinking it's an issue with the light, and if I have to replace it, I might as well go with the better one.

Apr 21, 2009I recently bought an M4400 from the Dell Outlet. Unfortunately, the one that had everything else I wanted didn't have the backlit keyboard.
From looking at the service manual, it looks like a keyboard swap is pretty easy, but I can't find anywhere (including Dell Parts) to buy the actual keyboard (whose part numbers appear to be either G077C or 330-0825, depending on where you look).
