I upgraded my daughters Inspiron 1520 to Windows 8 and everything works well. The only problem we are having is the memory card reader does not work. Windows 8 recognizes it and shows the action center flag and advises us to install a new driver.. We install the driver R188776.exe, install it, and re-boot, but the memory card reader still doesn't work.. Is there another driver we can install?

It shows up as "Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller" in Device Manager. However I've tried multiple SD cards and it just won't recognize that anything has been inserted. The computer doesn't pause or show any indication that it's doing something when I insert a memory card.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a EliteBook 8730w sinds 2010 and I just installed Windows 8.1.Now I don't have any access to my SD reader.According to the device manager the SD reader driver is up to date and is working, but I don't see the SD reader in the file explorer.The SD reader is a RICOH.In the device manager I have some problems with Other devices:
1) Base system device
2) Base system device
3) Fingerprint sensor
4) Unknown device
I suppose that the problem must be in Other devices.
the wireless driver on the Dell website does NOT work. Googling this problem leads me to believe that I am not the only one with it.
However I have not seen anyone with a solution; most people are just linked to the Dell website and the Dell driver, which doesn't work at all.
I performed a windows 7 clean install on my vaio (VPCEB11FX).
After that i installed the drivers properly.In Device manager i am able to see the MMC card reader and SD reader with respective path letters.

When I turn my Dell Inspiron 7720 on, integrated webcam often does not work. Camera app in Windows 8 shows "there's a problem with a camera", other apps also show error messages or just a black screen.
After several resets the camera may start to work properly till the next reset. The camera is always shown in the Device Manager without errors and in the USBView I see that at least USB descriptors are correct. Moreover, after several disable/enable cycles in device manager the camera may start to work.
I've created two HDD partitions and installed Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8 Pro (both from original ISO files downloaded from MSDN). On clear Win 8 the camera shows the same problem, but on Win 7 it works properly.
There is no camera driver for Inspiron 7720 on the Dell web-site, thus I've used standard Microsoft driver on both Win 7 and Win 8.
I'm still not sure is it a hardware problem, because it is reproduced only with Windows 8. The computer was initially sold with Ubuntu, but Windows 8 is in the list of supported OS.
Camera IDs are: VID = 0C45 (Sonix), PID = 648D, REV = 2206.
Anyone use Sony's Memory Stick Pro in the card reader? Seems too small, I assume I need an adapter of some sort? Just hoping someone can confirm with a pic.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhenever I insert an SD card or Sony Memory Stick in the memory card reader (VGP-MCA20) of my SZ, the computer doesn't recognize it. If I double click on the removable drive, it hangs the computer. I tried 16MB and 512MB SD Cards and 16MB Sony Memory Stick. All of them don't work. I tried them with my FW notebook and they work fine. So, it is not the media problem.
I tried to restore from Recovery DVD with Windows XP, install with Windows Vista and I still have the same problem.

About a week ago I had to do a full restore from the restoration discs HP had sent me, something was causing Windows Explorer to be incredibly unstable and I couldnt even make a set of backup discs...
BUT thats not the problem, after the installation, I realized that my laptop no longer detects the built it fingerprint reader and memory card slots... I figured, ok maybe I just need to go back and manually install the drivers... So I did from the HP website and still nothing worked... So I contacted HP support and naturally they gave me the links to the exact same pages I got the drivers off of, then they had me update my BIOS... still nothing... then they had me reinstall my fingerprint reader software... Still nothing... So then they told me to just send it into them under warrenty to have it fixed, except I'm a full time student and I depend on my laptop.
One month ago I bought 4G*2 memory on newegg.com and install them on my Inspiron 1520,
but when I finished and turn on the power the interesting things happened, the boot progress bar stoped and it was their alll the time

I have tried everything to get this SD card reader to work but to no avail. Even a fresh install of W7/32 ... nothing... Every time i insert an SD card in the slot... i get a message. USB device not recognized ... one of the usb devices has malfunctioned & Windows does not recognize it... I am also just using a 2 g SD card not an sdhc card.
In the Device Manager.... it shows up as "unknown device" yellow highlight... try to update the driver ... says i already have the best driver..... when i take the sd card out...unknown device disappears... i have also re-installed the drivers from here for the card reader... but nothing....
Furthermore... it seems to lead to an error code 43 ..

I downloaded and installed all drivers that were recommended by HP but my Sound and Audio doesn't work. Neither does my Mass Storage Controller nor my PCI Modem. All were working with the WIN XP.

Means that if you keep pressing any key on the keyboard except ctrl and alt keys then use the touchpad the cursor doesn't move it doesn't respond. I haven't downloaded any drivers. View 2 Replies View RelatedThis computer is 6 months old. It came with Windows 7, and I did install Windows 8 in October 2012. I have had problems ever since and neither Dell nor Microsoft can support. ANYWAY, until today, my DVD/CD player worked just fine. I used it every few days, but today when I went to use it, the door would not open. I notice the light next to the Open button is not lit up, but my device manager says it is in working order and the driver is updated.
I tried Ejecting from the device manager, but it does not work. When I ran the Dell Diagnostics program, it said that it was unable to run the diagnostics when there is media in the drive or the door is open. There is a game disc in the drive, and the game works, but I think it is downloaded onto the computer, so maybe does not use the disc during play?? How can the drive work and not the door? Is there anything I can do??
I have a brand new Inspiron 1525 and am trying to get my photos from a 1 gig sd card into a file on my laptop. I've removed the "fake" sd card that came with the computer and put in the picture card. It opened once (meaning it showed up as as an sd card in the "my computer" area, but I moved on to something else at home and eventually "safely removed" the card without finishing my task. A few days later I tried again but the computer doesn't even recognize the card... the "my computer" area does not list the card as being in its slot.
What is more curious is that if I remove the card and put it into my trusty multi-slot card reader and insert that into one of the usb ports it opens up the iphotos on the sd card just fine and I can upload from there. I know I can just use the card reader, but I really like of being able to just put the sd card directly into the laptop.
What I have is a the blue screen with only windows home edition on it and it does not boot up any farther than that. This is a new machine and I would like to reset, I have tried tapping f8 at start up but it says resuming start up and then goes to the same screen. I tried to load Google chrome and then it all went south.

There are drivers that need updating since I installed them on the 19.12.2014 from the dell website, but the program says "Your system is up to date", even after manual scan. What's strange is that the latest Dell Update version on the website is 1.3, but the program updates itself to 1.4.
