Mar 21, 2013I have recently purchased Dell Inspiron 15R 5521N laptop with Windows 8 Pro. When I try to connect my laptop to an Acer monitor with an HDMI cable, it gives me a no signal error. But when the same laptop is connected to a Philips monitor using the same cable, it works perfectly. As usual I thought that the monitor was the culprit, but when I connected another laptop to the Acer monitor using the same cable it worked without any errors. So where does the problem lie. The HDMI cable is OK, the laptop is also OK as also the Acer monitor?

May 18, 2014I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.

Dec 19, 2014I know the Intel 4000 video can only handle dual video, but is there any way have both those streams on external monitors. Â I have one that is extended and I would like to use another port to simply passthrough the interal display signal. Â I am using the series 3 miniport plus which has two digital/dvi ports and a vga out. Â In connecting to the second digital or the vga I get no signal. Â Likewise with the side VGA on the PC. Â I wouldn't even mind if the laptop display stayed lit as long as I could see it duplicated on a real monitor AND KEEP MY EXTENDED DESKTOP on another extenal monitor.

Irecently bought a new AOC monitor 6 months ago and it worked flawlessly up to two weeks ago when it suddenly stopped working with this laptop. monitor still works great through HDMI with my brothers mac and with a seperate Blu ray player also via HDMI. so its not the monitor or cable that is causing the problem.Â
the driver for the monitor is installed correctly and all the extra graphics drivers such as nvidia have been uninstalled and still the screen shows 'no signal'
I suspect the issue is with the HDMI driver which i have not been able to find a driver for (i recently reformatted my laptop and had to re-install all drivers even for USB ports and mouse ) however reformatting the laptop was done in an attempt to solve this issue.Â
HP/Compaq :: Connecting External Monitor To DV9700
Mar 24, 2009how to get an external monitor working with a HP DV9700 laptop? The screen is cracked and it's totally white, so I'm unable to do anything through the BIOS, desktop, etc.
I've tried Fn-f4 and every other f button combination.
The laptop is plugged into the mains, so there should be sufficient power for an external monitor.
I've also re-booted the laptop with the monitor connected and switched on.
There is no option to switch on the laptop with the lid closed, due to the position of the on-off switch.
The laptop is not networked, so I can't access the hard drive any other way.
I try it without the battery (not sure why?), but that didn't work either.

Feb 1, 2010I am trying to run dual monitors on a d630 with Intel 965 video and the laptop, after reboot, will not hold its settings.
It always wants to revert back the VGA screen as primary and ignores the second DVI monitor.
I have tried undocking and removing the dock profile so it can re-establish it but no success.

Jul 13, 2009having trouble with my second monitor that I am trying to connect.
I am using a DVI to HDMI cable and inputting it into the second screen (It is an lcd tv).
Windows 7 allows me to change the resolution of both monitors seperately. i made my regular monitor the same 1920 x 1200, but no matter what resolution i make the second screen, the edges, top bottom left and right are all cut off, sort of like a cropped version of what i should be seeing .....

After reading through the forum, I can't find any report of a vaio z owner successfully attaching an external monitor with a resolution of more than 1920 x 1200 (due to no dvi-dl compatibility). Specifically, I was hoping to get a 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor.
Is it safe to conclude that it is impossible to connect a 2560 x 1600 external monitor to my new vaio z?

Jun 18, 2009I have my MBP setup with an external monitor and everything is fine except that when I'm using two programs, the toolbar (very top bar on the screen) doesn't move.
I know that I can go to display preferences and select which screen has the bar but what I'd like to do is have say Photoshop on one screen with its bar and InDesign on the other with its own bar. Is this not possible?

Aug 11, 2007I've got a new Dell Vostro 1500 with the Nvidia 8600M GT video card, and when I add a 2nd monitor to my display, the resolution of my laptop monitor drops to 1280x800. Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? The 2nd monitor is an AOC 22LVWk, haven't tried it with any others yet.

Feb 27, 2010I just picked up a Z laptop. Got the docking station the VGP-PRZ1. The dock has a vga and DVI connector. When I connect two monitors to the dock the software will only allow me to turn one on. I get an error "this gpu only supports a single display"
Does that mean I can not use 2 external monitors?

Jun 10, 2009I'm trying to set up dual monitors, and can't seem to get it to work.
I'm using a external LCD with a DVI->VGA converter plugged into the laptop. The LCD knows there's a signal as when I plug it in it just goes blank as opposed to the "no signal" screen.
However the laptop doesn't seem to detect it. When I go to graphics properties it says "Multiple Display, blah blah, please connect another display". And there's no tab for another monitor or anything.

Jul 21, 2009I'm thinking of purchasing a new macbook with the mini display port and upon research I have gotten reall confused about cables that go into it.
The one I am looking at is the cheaper mini display to dvi-d, from what I have gathered it does not support a res higher than 1920x1200 and will not support a dvi to vga port, but what I am really worried about is will it support a dual monitor set up (one screen the laptop screen and a standard other screen that does not have a higher resolution.
So will I be fine with that port of do I have to buy the really expensive one to do so all these reviews have me really confused.

Specifically, I was wondering if it would drive a 30" monitor (2560x1600). The 9300m graphics card specs appear to support it, but I've heard that the Z supports only up to 1920x1200. I'm getting the docking station too,
If not, I was thinking of dual 24", but I've read that no one has gotten the Z to work with multiple external monitors either; is this true? In another post someone recommended the Matrox Triplehead2Go, but that doesn't appear to support 2 external monitors at 1920x1200 resolution + the internal screen.

Oct 19, 2009I'm running Windows XP (32 bit) on Bootcamp on my 2008 MBP with nvidia 8600m GT graphichs card. I cannot select my external monitor to be the primary monitor because it's grayed-out (I can't select it where it says 'use this monitor as my primary monitor').
I just went onto nvidia's website and downloaded the latest drivers and installed them. No difference. Anyone know how I can achieve this?

Dell Inspiron 1525 :: Losing Wireless Signal Randomly?
Apr 6, 2013So I've had this laptop for over 5 years now (Dell Inspiron 1525) & about 2 years ago I put Windows 7 on it(the laptop came with vista). I haven't had any problem with it up until November of 2012. The problem I'm having is my wireless connection get's dropped constantly. Randomly & especially if I'm watching a video online. It does it on every browser. And I cannot reconnect to my WIFI without restarting my computer or putting it in hibernate mode & resuming windows.Â
It actually stopped for a month & is now back worse than it was before. I contacted Dell & they ran a diagnostic with me & said I needed to change my hard drive. So I have(this was 4 days ago) & the problem is still occurring. I've taken it to geeksquad even & had them run diagnostics & they said they found nothing either. I can't seem to find a solution.

The stuttering sound happens when I'm playing any kind of audio. If I'm not playing audio, the stutter wont occur but the wireless signal will drop. I've also looked into the device manager & I found this.

Apr 18, 2013I just bought a new laptop and every night I lose the wifi connection. I know it's not my router because I am usually running one of two X-boxes in the house and that connect never drops. The laptop works great for a couple of hours and then it drops off. I have tried restarting, shutting down and nothing works. I do all my homework online and cannot afford it dropping in the middle of a test or something. The OS is that wonderful Windows 8 (in my sarcastic voice).

The second display will run to show BIOS startup but then reverts to the built-in screen - which is illegible. Toggling the F3 key does not get a good screen.
