Dell Inspiron 7537 :: Left Shift Key Is Not Being Recognized
Aug 22, 2014
Left shift key is not working, I used my dell application to troubleshot, it recognized all keys, like if I press alt it tells its alt and so on, but when i pressed left shift it showed a message "key pressed". so I concluded left shift is working but not being recognized.
I am having problem with my dell n4050 keyboard shift key..when i start writing something in Microsoft word by pressing shift to write CAPs or other symbols..it creates some other symbol or open a program from start menu.i also changed my key board layout settings, but it doesn't work.
I am a bit of a tech head, and urged my wife to wait until the "good" touch screen has well laptops came out. I even wrote some glowing reviews of Dell's inspiron 15 7537 after I received it ([URL....)Unfortunately, just a few weeks out of warranty, the trusty laptop has stopped powering up. The symptoms: laptop will not power up. Things I have tried:
-Making sure the power cable was plugged in (LED is on the power ring on the plug itself) -Making sure the PC recognizes the power cable and the power adapter isn't loose (power ring brightens when plugged in) -Trying different outlets, including several direct to wall outlets -Removing battery and trying to power up with just power cable -Removing battery and AC adapter, holding power for 3+ minutes to "clear static charge" -Doing above and then plugging power cable in -One ram chip at a time -No ram
Unfortunately nothing works. Fans don't turn on, lights don't turn on, display doesn't turn on, no noises or beeps. Other than the power ring on the plug getting brighter when I plug it in, there is no indication that the device is receiving any power. The build quality of the device is so high and my wife has been very satisfied.
I have my laptop since August last year. I bought it direct from Dell. I was using it today and closed the lid to go into sleep. Now it won't turn on at all. Once or twice it slightly reacted and showed Dell logo but then shuts down. The power light sort of fades out.
I can't turn it on at all so can't do any sort of troubleshooting.
I got my replacement insiprion and it is a refurbished model. a couple of days ago Today I was typing and I noticed beeps coming from the right side of the machine. I opened the back cover and the sound appears to be coming from the Hard Drive. Dell's quality has really gone down hill. They send me one replacement and that one was riddled with issues... I demand another replacement and this one came and I thought "wow everything works" and this issue pops up.. I also have a dell xps 13 with the coil whine.. Dell really is horrible now. How do they get away with giving customers this stuff? Really.. who is the head of QC needs to be fired.I have bought many dell computers over the years and I have to say the decline in quality is very apparent... I will NOT be buying another dell.. and for the record I have bought a couple of desktops, a couple of laptops... I will no longer give them another cent besides extending the warranty on this machine because I'll need it after the quality of their products..
Spent about half a day now on getting the Windows 8.1 Pro update for my new Inspion 15. However each time after installing the update from the store and rebooting, I am greeted with the message that the update could not be installed, error number 0xC1900101 - 0x20017. I have installed all Windows Updates and also updated all Intel and NVidia divers. Uninstalling everything preinstalled by Dell did not change the result either. What else could I try?
Here are all entries from the %windir%WindowsUpdate.log file from the time frame in which I attempted an update:

My Inspiron 7537 battery is draining itself when the laptop is powered off. I have all the latest drivers for everything and the latest BIOS. Everything is updated. I have all the best software for viruses and spyware.
It has been happening for a couple of months now. I usually have it plugged in when I use it. Randomly when I turn it on the next afternoon after turning it off at 100% the night before it can be as low as 70% the next day. Sometimes the battery is still at 100%.
My dell inspiron 7537 is not powering up. When charger plugged in the charger led glows, but when powered on nothing happens. No display, no light, no beeps, no fan, nothing.
My Dell Inspiron 15 (7537) simply does not recognize the built in touchpad for a couple of days now.
I did run all the tests even the ePSA test and all passed with OK, but never the less there are not tests for the touchpad.
If I unplug the external mouse the mouse pointer dissapears, as a sign that there is no device present.(I tried to install and reinstall the synaptics drivers - Input_Driver_15K08_WN_17.0.13.51_A02 ) but no luck at all.
Furthermore, I tried to boot the system using the windows 7 and 8 installation media, as well as Linux Mint, but there is no mouse pointer unless I plug in an external mouse.
It seams to me that the hardware is faulty.
I still have 1 more month left from the standard warranty, what should I do ?
Just bought the new Inspiron 7537 with NVIDIA graphics card. The issue is when I try to wake it up after the laptop in a sleep mode, only the keyboard is light but the screen is black. I have to press the power button to shut it down.
I'm trying to understand why my new Inspiron 15 7000 series takes so long to start after being put to sleep as I don't believe it should take this long.
The power settings are configured to go into sleep mode whenever the lid is closed or the power button is pressed. If, after closing the lid, I re-open the lid within a short space of time, the laptop bursts into life almost immediately. However, if it is left longer, then when opening the lid, nothing happens and I have to (briefly) press the power button. It then takes about 30 seconds for the windows desktop to appear. This is simply too long!
I've also noticed that if the laptop is left idle and it "powers off", which is set to sleep mode then it again takes about 30 seconds to resume when pressing the power button.
The laptop is running Windows 8.1 64 bit and has 8gb of RAM and an i7-4510U CPU.
I have a 5 year old Acer laptop running windows 7, which is faster at starting from hibernate mode than this Dell Inspiron, which suggests that the Dell is actually hibernating, however none of the power settings are set for it to do this.
How to get this Dell Inspiron to start in a reasonable time from sleep mode as 30 seconds is not acceptable.
I received my Inspiron 7537 1080 3 weeks ago. Everything works perfectly except the static noise after connecting headphones. Tried different headphones, latest drivers nothing worked. Dell has sent an engineer to look at the problem. He replaced entire motherboard but the noise is still there. I tried Bluetooth headphones and external sound card but this hissing noise is always there in the background. I am thinking about getting another one after refund but not sure if this static noise is present in all models or was this only one off.
My laptop doesnt want to turn on at all while pressing the power switch. When this problem occured, i dont know how the laptop automatically powered on without me touching it. THe second time it turned on, i tried to pressed the power button, the laptop didnt go to sleep mode, which is supposed to happen normally. I tried holding the switch for more than 10 seconds, it didnt powered off. When i hit restart from the charm bar, the laptop shuts down and turns back on without problem.. But then i hit the shutdown, it turned off... But, i cant get it back on, i even tried holding it for a minute. I even took the battery out, tried it with the AC, but no luck..
Ever since I updated my software from windows 8 to windows 8.1 I lost all the features displayed on the windows mobility center related to the cutomized section from dell. I had to download the drivers to get the gestures configurations for the mousepad, the same happened with the audio drivers I downloaded both from the dell site, but i can't control the usage of the backlight of my keyboard, It turns off like every 20 seconds when there's no activity, and I want to configure it differently and get back the cutomized section of the mobility center,
I own a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series i7537T-5005sLV.A short while ago I tried to power on my laptop but it didn't come on. I thought that the battery drained and I didn't notice however when I plugged in the power cord no lights came on. I decided to open up the laptop and remove the battery and put back the battery and try to power on the laptop. It came on after doing that and I saw lights again.
I also notice that after reseating the battery, the latency between pressing the power button and the laptop actually coming on is shorter. It is almost instantaneous. Before there was about a 1.5 seconds delay. (THIS COULD BE MY IMAGINATION THOUGH)
I also noticed that I got little "pinches" or small shocks when my skin comes in contact with the edge of the laptop, especially at the end of the palm rest area. The shocking sensation could be cause the hair on my hands as my skin brush along the edges of the laptop as I type. I say this because I've never experienced a shock touching anywhere else on the laptop and I never felt a shock while using the tips of my fingers to touch the edges.
One last thing I feel I should mention. Around the SD card slot area there is a small dent protruding outwards; barely noticeable. It was a brand new laptop and the seal on the box wasn't broken or tampered with so I am assuming that this was a manufacture's defect. One I was willing to overlook since the dent wasn't that bad and added some character to the laptop. However I am beginning to worry that the unit might be damaged and that is why I had the power issue. The laptop is about two weeks old. I had to replace the first one because the display had horizontal waves running from top to bottom. Even in the BIOS. They were especially visible against gray backgrounds.
I received a new Inspiron 15 7000 yesterday, and am experiencing the following issue:
Approximately every other time I try to either a) Turn On the laptop or b) Resume from sleep - the laptop freezes.
This is often accompanied by the backlit keyboard being lit and staying on. Nothing else happens. No screen etc. or other response. The only way to get the laptop to work is to hold down the power button to kill the machine, and try again. This usually works and the system starts in a seconds.
I recently purchased a new Inspiron 15 7000 (7537) with Windows 8. I'm getting used to Windows 8, but really struggling with the integrated touchpad. It's getting so frustrating I'm considering returning it. The problems are hard to pin down, but in general:
-I often get the right click shortcut menu, when I'm just trying to click. I've even changed both the right and left hand buttons to both be "click" (and neither be shortcut menu), but I still get the shortcut menu a lot.
-Sometimes the cursor gets stuck and doesn't respond to movements. I've tried adjusting the touch sensitivity and disabled palm detection. No change.
I'm bought laptop dell vostrol 5470 in Aug 2014. My laptop use windows 8.1 64 bit.Recently, I have a problem with my keyboard.
- when I press shift key left, my lappop is displayed letter 'SFJL' or 'SFJLk' on Microsoft Office
- when i press shift key right, my lapptop is turned on Caps lock
I have connected with another key board [key board for desktop]. It is not operated.I have opened soft key board and click shift button [left/right]. It's operated normally..I can not input some letter such as shift + 2 = @, shift + 3 = #... So what happen with my key board, and How can I repair it.
After installing XP media center on my inspiron 1520 i am unable to get it to recognize usb devices. I looked in the device manger at the drivers and it is missing some for the usb. I am not sure which one to download. I tried installing some and they did not work. I went to dell's site and did not find anything.
I have three usb ports, and none of them seem to be working. Although the devices work on my roommate's laptop, they are not recognized on mine. When I plug my flashdrive into hers, it lights up, but that doesn't happen on mine. I recently reset my computer to factory settings to try and fix other issues including the problem with the usb ports, but the usb devices are still not recognized.
I recently sent in my laptop due to problems of it not being able to turn on, and my battery and a/c adapter were replaced. I was quite happy. However, I do not want to send it back in even though it is under warranty. Since I am a college student, I really need my laptop. If nothing works, I'll send it back in over winter break so I'm not without a laptop during my studies.
My touchscreen is also not working, so how to fix that, here is my other post: [URL] ...
recently I bought MS Industrial wifi mice. When I plug adapter to usb port on my Inspiron 5520 it says "Device not recognized" . Then I put it to another port ( I have 4) it says the same message. I plugged it to first port again, and it works.
When I put laptop to sleep or when I shut it down and when I wake/turn it on my mice doesn't work . I plug adapter out, and plug in again, the same message .... "device not recognized"
I have a inspiron 15 laptop and keep getting a message "USB not recognized. The USB device attached to this device has stopped working or windows doesn't recognized.." thing is there isn't a device attached to the computer when I get these messages.I've updated the BIOS, driver updates etc and still get the message.
Wondering if anyone else is having this problem with Dell.
I bought an Inspiron 1500 14 months ago. Early on I noted that the adapter dell sent would sometimes slip out if the laptop was touched.
Then at 6 moths I started getting a message on power up -AC adapter wattage & type cannot be determined.- 2 weeks later the battery was drained and the system wouldn't recharge it .....
I have a Dell 1545 Inspiron Computer with Vista Ultimate OS. Yesterday for the 2nd time, my mouse and printer won't work because I get the error message USB Device not recognized.
About 3 weeks ago I had the same problem and it self-corrected itself when the latest Windows Update apparently fixed it.
I know there is nothing truly wrong with the USB devices but am not sure what to do. If there is a particular driver for this as my backup DVD for this computer has lots of them listed. I am currently running a System Check but am not sure if that is going to work.
