i have an insprion 1520, with a 8600gt..i have hardly used it yet, probably has 10 hours on it....
i like the laptop..some don, t...but i think the silver with blue lights looks cool.,and the chasis is solid...not like the cheap plastic cases i see on the new laptops today .....
is it possible to overclock my graphics card,if so what program is recommended.
my machine is dell 1720 with the nvidia 8600mgt.
Also the other thing is sometimes when i open the lid of the screen the resolution goes lower and i have to change it back
We replaced the motherboard. Then it would start up but then shut back down. Swapped out the video card on a hunch, then we got a white screen with an odd color line through it periodically.
We can plug it into another monitor and it works fine so we're getting output.
Would this mean my screen is shot? If so, are there other models that will have compatible screens (17" XPS, for example)
I replaced the hard drive in a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop with a new one. The old hard drive wouldn't boot and failed several Dell hard drive diagnostic tests.
Now a message pops up when the laptop is powered on, "Hard-disk #***********-595B, the system primary HDD is protected by a password authentication system..."
I am repairing this laptop for a client of mine. I don't remember a password prompt before replacing the old hard drive, but now the laptop won't even let me enter SETUP without entering a password.
I have a customer who has a Inspiron 8600. The machine boots to the post screen then shuts down. He told me he was installing the chipset from a dell cd but it was the wrong Dell Cd and wrong chipset for his 8600. How do you reset the cmos and uninstall the chipset and install the correct chipset.

I had a password on my account and now that the comp it was on is dead I cannot go back and fix that. The 1525 uses SATA and the 8600 had PATA? i think thats right. But the main thing is I am locked out of my old files and not abe to transfer them.
What can I do? 8600 was xp and 1525 vista of course
Nvidia apparently has a solution to the problems faced by many in their notebooks powered by GeForce 8M series, that is, to encourage the OEM/ODMs to buy their new problem free chips. Of course, this doesn't solve the issues faced by current users and there won't be any replacement for them.
Nvidia has come out with a new GPU called NB8E-SET which is essentially NB8E-SE with the new underfill. NB8E-SE is used on many notebooks most commonly advertised as GeForce 8700M GT, GeForce 8800M GS or GeForce 9650M GS. NB8E-SET (G84-751) uses the new Hitachi underfill and is clocked at 625MHz core and 128-bit 800MHz GDDR2/3 memories similar to the current NB8E-SE.
Here's a note from Nvidia to their partners :
NVIDIA is committed to providing our customers with quality products that push the edge of technology and also continuously improve product quality and reliability. To help improve the product quality and ensure smooth and uninterrupted product supply during the current “end stage” of life cycle, NVIDIA strongly recommends that customers transition to this latest revision of the NB8E-SET GPUs as soon as possible. These latest revision units utilize “Hitachi” underfill packaging material that improves product quality and enhances operating life by improved thermal cycling reliability.

which intel chips are being used in the new 17" Macbook pros released in the last month?
I think they run at 2.66Ghz and 2.93Ghz but I haven't been able to track down the exact Intel numbers (e.g. T9600 or T9800)..
I have recently installed a 250 Gb Samsung 840 EVO SSD and Win 7 Ultimate (64 bit) on my Pavilion dv6-7002AX laptop (**NOTE** - purchased in Australia) and for the most part it went well. The current problem I have is with the SM Bus controller and USB controller being listed as problematic in Device Manager. It appears to be missing the drivers and I have obtained the hardware IDs listed below.

After installing XP media center on my inspiron 1520 i am unable to get it to recognize usb devices. I looked in the device manger at the drivers and it is missing some for the usb. I am not sure which one to download. I tried installing some and they did not work. I went to dell's site and did not find anything.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have three usb ports, and none of them seem to be working. Although the devices work on my roommate's laptop, they are not recognized on mine. When I plug my flashdrive into hers, it lights up, but that doesn't happen on mine. I recently reset my computer to factory settings to try and fix other issues including the problem with the usb ports, but the usb devices are still not recognized.
I recently sent in my laptop due to problems of it not being able to turn on, and my battery and a/c adapter were replaced. I was quite happy. However, I do not want to send it back in even though it is under warranty. Since I am a college student, I really need my laptop. If nothing works, I'll send it back in over winter break so I'm not without a laptop during my studies.
My touchscreen is also not working, so how to fix that, here is my other post: [URL] ...
recently I bought MS Industrial wifi mice. When I plug adapter to usb port on my Inspiron 5520 it says "Device not recognized" . Then I put it to another port ( I have 4) it says the same message. I plugged it to first port again, and it works.Â
When I put laptop to sleep or when I shut it down and when I wake/turn it on my mice doesn't work . I plug adapter out, and plug in again, the same message .... "device not recognized"
I have a inspiron 15 laptop and keep getting a message "USB not recognized. The USB device attached to this device has stopped working or windows doesn't recognized.." thing is there isn't a device attached to the computer when I get these messages.I've updated the BIOS, driver updates etc and still get the message.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWondering if anyone else is having this problem with Dell.
I bought an Inspiron 1500 14 months ago. Early on I noted that the adapter dell sent would sometimes slip out if the laptop was touched.
Then at 6 moths I started getting a message on power up -AC adapter wattage & type cannot be determined.- 2 weeks later the battery was drained and the system wouldn't recharge it .....
I have a Dell 1545 Inspiron Computer with Vista Ultimate OS. Yesterday for the 2nd time, my mouse and printer won't work because I get the error message USB Device not recognized.Â
About 3 weeks ago I had the same problem and it self-corrected itself when the latest Windows Update apparently fixed it.Â
I know there is nothing truly wrong with the USB devices but am not sure what to do. If there is a particular driver for this as my backup DVD for this computer has lots of them listed. I am currently running a System Check but am not sure if that is going to work.Â
I have been using the same wireless mouse on this computer for three years. Suddenly it stopped working after a Windows update last night. Getting the following:USB Device Not Recongnized.
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. I have uninstalled USB drivers and let windows reinstall them, no change. I did a restore back two days, then windows wouldn't start. Occasionally stops in Dell start up screen and gives 4 beeps. Undid restore, back to same problem stated above.
Have recently purchased a new 14z. When I turn on the ultrabook, with no power cable plugged in - I get a message telling
me that the Battery is not recognized, and that I should press F1 to continue or F2 to go to the Setup screen. Pressing F1 boots
the ultrabook as normal. It seems a strange message to get. Ultrabook was purchased direct from Dell about 4 weeks ago, and
BIOS is A06 (latest).
Alright I am a long time user of Dell products, and have in the past had problems with them, but they have been easily fixable by either replacement parts or a quick look at a FAQ or messageboard for Info. My INSPIRON 1501 is not recognizing my battery. The battery is fine (checked it in my brothers computer), and I have checked other people's posts with the same problem and tried the fixes but nothing worked. I have tried to do the BIOS update (A16) that worked probperly but did not fix the problem.
While watching a movie I got a message telling me that my battery is not recognized. The battery is stuck at a 97% charge (or so the computer says) and the battery light is not light up (it flashes on sporadically but not consistant at all). The BIOS did fix the message at startup saying the battery isn't recognized but still if I remove the AC power cord or unplug the computer it powers right down and will not start-up unless plugged in.Â
I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 and everything works fine EXCEPT I can't access C:. What did I do wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLeft shift key is not working, I used my dell application to troubleshot, it recognized all keys, like if I press alt it tells its alt and so on, but when i pressed left shift it showed a message "key pressed". so I concluded left shift is working but not being recognized.
I am using Dell inspiron 7537
I'm hoping this is in the right area.
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 It's upgraded about as far as it can go. I use a desktop for the occasional gaming or rendering but this is my daily driver.
The issue. I took it apart the other day to see if my screen hinge could be replaced and to install a DVD burner. Now it no longer recognizes the onboard/integrated keyboard. It still recognizes the touch pad but not the keyboard. I went as far to buy a whole new OEM keyboard. Still nada.
Brand new laptop 3 days old - model 7737. Came with Win8 and touchscreen was working fine
Have updated to 8.1 and installed other software like office, etc and touchscreen is now not recognised. System says "no pen or touch device"
Device manager also shows an unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)
Device manager also keeps refreshing (like every few seconds) - sometimes the USB device disappears completely then comes back again as unknown.
I'm sure this must be a driver issue but have tried all those I can find.
My laptop's USB ports are no longer working. I believe that some internal circuitry got fried after I plugged in a USB powered device that had its own power supply. I don't remember exactly what I did because it was while ago. I still like to use the laptop, but without USB its uses are quite limited.
When I plug in a device, nothing happens. It is neither powered nor recognized. All USB ports are affected.
My wife has an Inspiron Mini 10 which I damaged seeing if I could upgrade the RAM. So I bought another mobo and fitted it in, plugged it in and turned it on. After so long we were told that the battery was running low and wouldn't charge. After it shut down we got the OLOD and have tried using a USB drive to flash the BIOS using HP USB key utility but there wasn't enough power left in the battery to do anything.
Next I bought a new battery which has about 37% on it but we're still getting the OLOD after booting up and down a few times.Â
From what I can gather from searching the web, I need to flash the BIOS but I can't find a way of doing this as the BIOS files from Dell are .exe and isn't recognised when I boot from the USB stick as it's looking for a .bin file.
It has occurred to us that maybe the drivers (we have Win7 32bit installed) aren't there.
What we should do with the remaining battery power? We don't have enough to experiment.
1/ install drivers?... if so how do we do this without a floppy drive or disc drive?
2/Would a fresh install of Windows fix this problem?
I just bought this new computer, an inspiron 17r se 7720 and whenever i try to open the nvidia control panel it says that in the system there isn't an nvidia graphic card when actually its there.Â
The graphic card its an nvidia gt 650m with 2gb of dedicated ram. I tried to flash the bios to the latest update but nothing. What can i do?
I have a 2 year old inspiron 15 (M5030) running win 7 and have had 2 problems that keep coming up
1) I run the dell diagnostics in the Dell Support Center for my hd and it keeps coming up "targeted read test failed" how do i fix that
2) I keep getting the message "USB Device Not recognized" message pop up constantly especially when I'm using my laptop on my lap when I don't have anything attached to a USB port. How do I get that to stop popping up...
when i play games like need for speed undercover, left 4 dead, and gta 4, at first it goes smooth with good framerates, then after several minutes.. it suddenly lags like hell... the framerate drops to 10 frames per min or more depending on the game.... then after several minutes again, it goes back to a decent frame rate.. then again it lags after several minutes,
