Dell :: Inspiron B130 Wireless Si Or No
Oct 13, 2007
I purchased a "slighty used" Dell Inspiron B130 2006 model laptop, which runs with windownsXP. Before I bought it, the guy told me it was "wireless" already and that I could go to any place like "starbucks" etc. and use the internet. Well, we met up at a local place that I knew would have wirless there, and once he arrived, he said that the wirless works, I just needed to go out and buy a card to go into it. Well this upset me bc as I understood it, I didnt need anything else(this is obveously my first laptop, which I paid $320 for). I have even tried hooking it up to my at home cable internet, and it doesnt work. On the laptop it says the Network Adapter is Broadcom and gives a location of PCI bus2, device 3, function 0. Ive tried playing with the network connections, and still dont know what I need for it. My friend came over with her laptop, and a whole bunch of my neighbors have wirless routers, bc her laptop worked everywhere in my house(she has wireless). I went to Target and bought a Lynksys Wireless G notebook adapter(bc it says it interoperates with wireless-B networks). Well I went through the software, and when it said to put the card in, I took the Dell plastic piece out and tried to put in the lynksys card...wouldnt fit. I took a flashlight and saw that the shape of my cardslot is like an "L". I went on the internet and found that I would need some sort of expresscard54 or 34, bc dell made this differant than other notebooks.
All in all, this Lynksys one wont work, Ive tried calling Best Buy and they put me on hold for like 30min.s then hung up on me, called dell, gave them the system code and they told me the laptop isnt under warranty anymore and they couldnt give me any info as to where it was bought or anything. Bottom line, I need to know how much more it will cost me to get this supposedly "wireless already" laptop to actually work.

Working on a dell Inspiron b130 laptop. The power is plugged in, and battery is in. The power will not turn on at all, no fan or CPU. The main power light comes on when button is pressed for a moment then goes off. The battery light flashes slowly. The power cord adapter has a light on it and that says its working. I have tried taking the battery out and that does nothing.
I had assumed since its an older laptop that maybe the power was so drained that it needed it to be charged a little to have enough power to turn on. But it's been awhile an nothing yet. Is it trashed? We do have another hard drive around to try would that matter at all?

Just opened my girlfriend's laptop, and saw that it had:
CD/DVD Drive TSL462 ver. C
PC2 4200S 4-4-4-12 latency RAM 1 512 MB stick
Dell P/N 0C9063 WiFi Card
I was wondering if someone could give me a link to updated drivers/firmware for the DVD drive and the Wifi Card. I already updated the Intel Chipset from the Intel website.
Also, what is the best kind of RAM it will accept? I was thinking two 1GB sticks of pc2-5300, but I don't know if it'll accept that much? It is Dual channel memory, but it's only using one channel right now obviously. Any help is appreciated, as I need to get her computer in working order by Friday.

I've searched all over for an solution to this and can't seem to find any straight answers.
I'm trying to upgrade my Inspiron 1420 to wireless-n, but I'm running into some problems. I know that the recommended card is the Intel 4965agn, but that card only uses the 40Mhz band at the 5Ghz frequency (at 2.4Ghz, it only allows 20Mhz).
My router (Linksys WRT-160N) only uses the 2.4Ghz frequency, so if I use the 4965, I would only get 130mbps. I was led to believe that the Intel WiFi Link 5300 would work at both bands on 2.4Ghz, but I just installed it, and it doesn't seem to be compatible with my computer. I get a code 10 (unable to start) error.
So my question is this: Is there a wireless-n card that is compatible with the Inspiron 1420 and that will utilize the 40Mhz band at 2.4Ghz?.

My daughters 1440 works online for about 15min and then it loses connection to the router and wont show any available wireless networks,
I won't work until I reset the system and then it works for about 15 min again.I reinstalled the wireless driver and even tried to restore it to a few weeks before it started doing that but still does it.
Could the wireless card be bad? Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone know which card is in there an ho to get to it?

I ended up purchasing a wifi card on ebay named gigabyte pci card for my laptop. It worked when my other friend installed the drivers.

Is there any Wireless-N mini PCI cards which will work in the Dell 9200? If so, would I have to add a third antenna to make it work? Are there any walk through's or HOW TO's for this kind of upgrade, I've googled and there very little on this.

My Inspiron 1520 has been having a random issue. In a quick break down here is the problem(s).
When ever I turn off my wireless switch, the WiFi light sometimes will go off immediately or 5 seconds later - but the light will return on when no wireless activity is initiated and the switch is off. (Note that in the BIOS my wireless settings is "all" so everything shuts off when I hit the switch.
My Wireless AdHoc setup is utterly horribly useless now. Out of the blue for no reason one day it's decided "I'm not gonna let the iPod touch connect to me to share internet access".
Things too note, I'm in a rural location, so I'm fixed too DIAL UP ONLY - don't tell me "upgrade to high speed" - it's not an option in this area, period. With that said, no wireless activity goes on within my household besides my laptop sharing it's rock'n 3KBPS dial up with my iPod touch (possibly my PSP if I ever get around to it) ....

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 1420 from my colleague..my first impression was, this is a great laptop..
Due to some problem with its internal wireless device, I decide to buy a DLink DWL-AG660 wireless cardbus adapter from the net..
When the card arrived, I try to install it & unfortunately, it cant fit in...I google the net & just found out that the AG660 is using a 32 bit pcmcia card bus adapter & my inspiron 1420 is equipped with (maybe) an express card slot..

Laptops automatically disconnecting them from a wireless network and then no longer being able to access that network?I have an inspiron 14R (N4110) and thus far almost every wireless network I've tired eventually gets booted and then I can't connect to it again. [Yes I've tried about everything in the book on the network/modem/router side, and they only work for maybe 15 minutes.]

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300. I love the laptop. I bought it back in 2003 or 2004... can't remember! It's been a while!
Anyways... I always had problems with the wireless internet. When I purchased the unit, the wireless would keep dropping speeds and lose connections randomly. I read around some forums and I swapped out the Intel 2200 wireless card for a Atheros 5001 card.
No luck. Tried maybe 6 different drivers, changed many settings, and rebooted countless times. Still could not connect to the internet at all. The swap put me in a worse situation than before

I've just bought Dell Inspiron 7520 with windows 8 pre-installed. I'm facing the problem that the wireless connection all of sudden disconnects and won't connect again unless I go through trouble shooting to fix the network problem or by restarting the laptop. I'm sure that the problem is with the laptop cause I tried it on different networks and tried different devices on the same network.

I just purchased an Inspiron 1525 Laptop it came with the 1505 Wireless N-MINI card. I have a wireless network with the Linksys Model# WRK54G. This network is secured.
I set up connection as WPA-Personal with TKIP, this mirrors my Dell desktop that connects, however it is a G level wireless card. I can not connect to the network even though the signal is excellent.
It may be obvious the fact that the wireless card in the laptop is an N an the router is a G. Will this work or do I have to get the 1395 802 11G Mini wireless card

Just purchased new Dell Inspiron 15 (3521). Wireless will only connect at 72Mbps. After some googling found this is by design. The adapter is the Dell Wireless 1703 Adapter. Can Dell pls confirm this is the case and that there is no way to achieve TRUE wireless N speeds ? The fact that this limitation is not advertised on any product material/brochure/sales rep is a concern. Would Dell replace the adapter with one capable of proper wireless N speeds free of charge ?

I've had my Inspiron N5030 for about 10 months now. I've been using the same wireless router for about 8 months with no problem up until a week or so ago. I started to intermittently have the limited connectivity issue. It would come and go. So I tried to unplug the wireless router and modem. After that it seemed to work okay but the next day I turned on my computer and it wasn't connected at all. It shows my network but when I try to connect it says that windows cannot connect to my network. I'm the person that set up the network so I have the correct key and code and it's worked fine for months so I'm not sure what's causing the issue. I've also tried resetting the router but that doesn't seem to work either. I have a ipod touch that's able to connect to the wireless fine though so whatever the issue is it seems to be with the laptop.

So I've had this laptop for over 5 years now (Dell Inspiron 1525) & about 2 years ago I put Windows 7 on it(the laptop came with vista). I haven't had any problem with it up until November of 2012. The problem I'm having is my wireless connection get's dropped constantly. Randomly & especially if I'm watching a video online. It does it on every browser. And I cannot reconnect to my WIFI without restarting my computer or putting it in hibernate mode & resuming windows.
It actually stopped for a month & is now back worse than it was before. I contacted Dell & they ran a diagnostic with me & said I needed to change my hard drive. So I have(this was 4 days ago) & the problem is still occurring. I've taken it to geeksquad even & had them run diagnostics & they said they found nothing either. I can't seem to find a solution.
Here's a video of what happens sometimes when I'm just on the computer listening to [URL]
The stuttering sound happens when I'm playing any kind of audio. If I'm not playing audio, the stutter wont occur but the wireless signal will drop. I've also looked into the device manager & I found this.

Recently a client of mine starting experiencing WiFi connection issues, specifically the wireless will not automatically reconnect upon waking. One note: the "Wireless Network Connection" shows several routers but simply will not connect. The only solutions are either to reboot the laptop or run the connection troubleshooter in Windows. I have checked for driver updates (none available) , adjusted the power setting ("Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked), and verified that the AV software is not interfering - all to no avail.
System details:
Dell Inspiron N5010
Window 7 Home Premium
4GB Ram
Microsoft Security Essentials
DW 1501 Wireless-N Half-mini card
