Feb 16, 2013I have an XPS L701x that will automatically go into sleep mode after only a couple of minutes of using the system, and won't "wake up" unless I remove the battery and reboot it. I've checked my power settings and they show "Never" on going into sleep mode.

Jan 9, 2014I just bought my new laptop. I have it for around 10 days. Everything was ok at first but after 3-4 days I decided to update to Windows 8.1. After that the laptop never wakes up after going to sleep no matter what I do.
It seems that others have the same issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both display drivers, I removed a bluetooth device that had an error with 8.1 but I couldn't resolve the wakeup problem. I ran the power troubleshooter, nothing. Hybrid sleep in advanced power settings was already off.
It's really frustrating to have to do a hard reset everytime
My machine is an Inspiron 15 3537, i7 4500U, AMD 8850M, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD.

Feb 14, 2013I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?
Acer :: 1410 Wakes From Sleep By Itself, But ONLY When Lid Closed
Oct 18, 2009My 1410 has a very strange problem. If I put it to sleep with the lid open, it will properly stay asleep for hours and hours.
However, if I then close the lid, it will always wake up within 5 minutes (I can tell by the status lights). This happens regardless of the lid-closing action I have specified in Windows (hibernate, sleep, none).
If I tell it to hibernate on lid-closure, it will hibernate properly. If I tell it to sleep on lid closure, and close the lid, it will go to sleep and then quickly wake up again. What the hell could be doing this, and how can I fix it?
The laptop is a bone-stock aspire 1410, running windows 7-64, with up-to-date drivers and the latest BIOS (happened with old BIOS too).
Dell :: SXPS 1645 Unexpectedly Wakes Up From Sleep Or Hibernation In Windows 7
Jan 18, 2010For the last several days my Dell SXPS 1645 laptop running Windows 7 Professional randomly wakes up from either Sleep mode or Hibernation mode at any time during the day. The most it seems to stay off is for ~6 hours. It does not happen when I properly shutdown the PC. I checked the task scheduler, and nothing is scheduled to run at most of the times it wakes up, and none of the tasks are set to wake up the PC if scheduled to run. In the system logs, Windows 7 recognizes that it was waked up, but the "Power-Troubleshooter" event entry looks like this:

Any idea what could be causing this? I'm positive it's not a "Wake-on-LAN" feature as that's fully disabled and I'm only using WiFi anyways. I'm not sure if this happens when the laptop is only plugged in or if it happens on battery as well. (I'm continuing to see if there's a trend on this one)
Some background info: I'm running the original Dell build on the laptop with some of the bloatware removed via Control Panel. I've modded the ATI driver to the latest Catalyst version, which does seem to record the odd event error shortly after power-on (I noticed it when checking the power on event logs)... not sure if that's related.

Laptop working fine. I put it to sleep when I'm done and use the mousepad to wake it up. The fingerprint reader LED will blink, and I can swipe my finger to log on.At some point, after a few times of putting laptop to sleep and waking up, the fingerprint reader does not respond. No blinking LED. I swipe my finger and the reader does not respond at all -- doesn't even tell me that there was a bad read.If I log off and log back on again, no change. However, if I do a reboot, everything is fine--the fingerprint reader is working again.
My system is an HP dv6-6145dx. I am running Windows 7, with latest updates. The built-in fingerprint reader is running on HP Simple Pass 2011 v5.1 and Validity Sensor driver version 4.3.205.0. When I attempt to launch the Simple Pass interface, it loads the database but then the application vanishes. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the software, but this does not make any difference with the issue I noted.
Dell Inspiron N5050 :: Computer Crashes On Sleep Mode
Feb 21, 2013I have a Dell Inspiron N5050 that unfortunately shuts down on its own or fails to respond when it goes to sleep mode. This doesn't happen every time it goes to sleep but it still happens quite frequently. When it shuts down on it's own, it displays a "Windows Did Not Shut Down Properly" message once it is turned back on. It very rarely displayed a Blue Screen of Death that mentioned something about drivers but this hasn't popped up in a while.
I've been in contact with a Dell representative for about a week now, having him call me every day to remote control my laptop and try something new. He updated all of the drivers he could find (I previously did this but he decided to go ahead and re-download them anyways), updated the BIOS (again, tried that already on my own), ran all sorts of diagnostic tools (the only one that he ran that I hadn't already run was the WinDbg X86 program), changed sleep settings (tried that on my own too), had me scan the entire computer for about 3 hours to check for hardware issues (It was one of the options under the F12 key when the computer first boots up and it came up clean), and yesterday he set up a new user account and had me use that for a day to see if the problems were linked to my profile (didn't even think about that one). It's actually caused the problem to occur more frequently to be quite honest. Today was especially bad, as the computer crashed 9 times and ended up deleting the newly created profile on its own in an attempt to repair itself.

Feb 8, 2009My wife and daughter both have Dell Inspiron 1525's. My daughter's works flawlessly while my wife's has one irritating glitch. When the lid is closed, instead of going into sleep mode, it reboots itself. It doesn't complete itself though it always stops at the "windows shutdown improperly how do you want to restart" or something like that screen...it's the dos screen that says do you want to start windows normally or in safe mode, etc.
When it does this it never shuts off so I'll get home from work or I'll get up in the morning to find the fan has run all night...It was purchased in august and I'd hate for my wife to prematurely burn this thing up.
I've gone into ms config and one by one tried to isolate what the problem could be. Sometimes I have it narrowed down or actually got the culprit because once in awhile it'll do what it's supposed to do....then next time the lid gets closed it goes back to the existing problem.

Feb 20, 2013I have a dell Inspiron N5110 which is just over a year old. I upgraded to windows 8 not too long ago and my laptop has been just fine until today. When I close the lid or do anything to put my computer to sleep, it freezes up. The power button light stays solid and it seems like the computer is stuck. The only way to get it to do anything is to hold the power button down. My bios is updated to A11 which is the latest version. I don't know what else to do. Seems like I've tried everything but I can't figure it out.

Apr 3, 2013My XPS (bios A05) always wakes up after sleep mode with the fan running full speed and never stops after that. This occurs even if the PC goes to sleep with fan off (ie low system load, low temperature). The only way to turn the fan off is a full reboot.

let it go to sleep, and put it in my bag. The problem lately has been that when I close my laptop, it does not go into sleep mode, even though it is set for it to do this.
It will do this on both battery and AC power. I will put it into sleep overnight so it is in sleep when I put it in my bag in the morning.
And once last week I put it in there thinking it was a sleep and then 3 hours later while I was at work,
I had not brought it out yet, and opened my bag and the laptop never turned off, it had been running the whole time and was hot, and had 22 minutes of battery left.........

Jul 13, 2009Situation : I finish surfing web and I wanna give it a little break. I close the lid.
I have set it to goto sleep when lid closed (if any1 suggested this). I come back open up but the laptop didnt go to sleep, HDD activity is minimal but I can hear it spinning.
Also the screen is still bright but black, I can still change the brightness though with the Fn+upArrow or Fn+downArrow. In order to return to functional state I have to HARDreset.

But, When I choose the Sleep mode, the 1330 goes to sleep, but never wakes up. When I press on the power button, nothing happens. Jan 4, 2014My Dell XPS 12 has twice refused to turn on after going into Sleep mode. There is no indication of activity at all. This happens when I know that the battery is nearly fully charged, and continues even after plugging in the adapter. The adapter works just fine to charge the battery and the battery typically runs for at least 6 hours so I do not believe that or the battery are the problem.
The first time this happened, I continued to open/close the lid and try turning on the computer. After several hours, the computer turned on and worked just fine. I had already scheduled service with Dell before I got it to turn on and Dell's technician replaced the motherboard under the assumption that that was the problem.
The second time I again continued to open/close the lid and try the power switch after contacting Dell and scheduling service. The next day, after several tries, the computer started up and again is working normally. I am not allowing the computer to Sleep and am using Shut Down instead. Dell has ordered a replacement motherboard (yes, again), battery, and DC IN. I don't think that this is a power issue so doubt that any of those will fix the problem.
Does the XPS 12 have a "lid sensor"? Something that could fail to recognize that the lid is open and could be turned on?

Nov 30, 2014My XPS 18 periodically has had trouble coming out of sleep mode. A hard restart has usually worked to restart it. However, the last time it didn't work and now won't start. While plugged in, a hard restart only turns the fan on after a few seconds and the battery indicator light blinks fast 7 times, then pauses, then repeats continuously. Once the battery runs down, a hard restart only gets a single orange blink and then nothing.
