Self Test unsuccessful. Status = 79
what does this mean?
can i still use the HDD or do i need to buy a new one?
can i still recover my files?
I've been using my Dell Inspiron N7110 with windows 7 for a little over a year now and a couple days ago, I turned it on to find out it wouldn't boot up anymore. It works normally up until it gets to the windows logo animation, which does not occur anymore. It seems just stall here for a bit then show the wallpaper for the login screen but will not show the area to input login credentials. This happens the exact same way even when I choose to start up in safe mode or anything like that.
So I ran a diagnostic and everything checked out except for the hard drive. It gives me the error "Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N 6VER58HG, self test unsuccessful. Status = 79". The hard drive still seems to be seen in the diagnostics and such, but does not to be responsive I suppose.
I'm not able to start my laptop properly so I tried to resolve this problem as following:1. Restart my laptop,pressing F12 and selected Diagnostics.I got following message on screen:
Error code: 0142
Msg: Error code 2000-0142
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful.
Sometimes system stuck on Windows logo appear at just start up. Sometimes system become standalone after login and I cannot do anything. Even I cannot move cursor.Sometimes after login a blue screen appear showing message of memory dump. I just want to make sure that Hard drive is not crashed because When I run system in Safe mode I can see all drives. Does this means Hard drive is OK?
I have a disk error on my XPS15Z. I ran a diagnostic and got:

Do I have to replace my hard drive and if so, can I send it to get replaced? I am still under warranty.

I Recently had a hardware pc check up as my system was booting slow.unfortunately i got a error as Smart Short Self test Failed error code whd16-ze6.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. The Warranty ran out in July of last year so for some reason I cannot email technical support directly.I ran the Dell PC Diagnostic test earlier today, all of which passed with the exception of the SMART Short Self Test which failed. Apparently my hard drive is "operating outside of normal parameters and should be replaced". I tried this twice, once with the Dell diagnostic software installed on my laptop and once using the downloadable diagnostics from the Dell website, both had the same outcome.
I then tried the system diagnostics accessed via the F12 key on system startup. Again all passed but the hard drive test which would not run and provided the following message:
Error code 2000-0142

Msg Hard Drive 0 s/n (omitted), self test unsuccessful status = 7
I have read around on the support forums that the next step to try is removing and replacing the hard drive then re-running the diagnostics. If this does not solve the issue and I have to replace the hard drive does that mean I will need to buy a new copy of windows to install on the hard drive, as my laptop came with no disks? I have backed up all my important files but obviously not any programs.
what my next steps would be and what the process is should I have to replace my hard drive? I am a "noob" in this area and don't want to spending uneccassary money on parts that don't need to be replaced or buying software I don't need to replace as it is already available if you see what I mean?
in February 2013, I bought 2 Inspiron R17-5720 in Amazon. Now, in both laptops, it is impossible to boot the machine.
When I power on, appears the Dell logo and nothing more.
I run the CD Utilities and I got the following message:

Today my laptop didn't boot from standby. It had been in standby mode since last night.
It will not respond to any button presses and the power light is pulsing. The light with the spanner in it is constantly lit also. Ive tried removing the battery, only using AC etc. Ive held the power button for more than 30 seconds but nothing gets a response.

I have an Inspiron N5110, service tag 84J4GR1. Last month, just after the warranty expired, the hard drive failed a test and I ordered a replacement Seagate drive. I followed the instructions to replace the old one but when the computer is powered up, a message comes up "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key" I have entered the Bios screen and changed the boot up order so that the hard drive is first. I have also run the Diagnostics facility which say that all device working including replacement hard drive. How to get the machine to boot up?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've finally managed to find someone to replace my optical drive with an SSD (wouldn't want to void the warranty, do we?) and I've got quite bit of a problem here. After installing Windows 8 on the SSD, I get the error "winload.exe missing or corrupted" and error code 0xc000000e. The installer automatically put the boot data on the original HDD, while the OS is on the SSD - and it seems the UEFI can't find the OS like this.
The OS itself seems to be intact, since pressing F12 at booting and selecting Hard Drive starts the computer normally.
I've tried to move the boot sector to the SSD, but it seems I'm missing something... Would a BIOS update maybe work with this?

In 2013, base of the laptop was broken and I had to replace it with a new one though there was no problem in hardware at all. Soon after the dell representative installed the new base and left my house I was facing a weird problem. When I power on the laptop, my screen gives a mild flash but does not start (6 out of 10 times, not always), but I can hear windows start up sound in the back ground. I use to press power button again to lock or stand by the laptop and then move my mouse. After performing this I can see the screen glows and log on screen shows up.
I was using my laptop like this for past 1.5 years as pressing a power button was no big deal. Today on the eve of new year, I saw my trick does not work any more. I was not able to start my screen even after repetitive attempts. But I remember I used it last night, display was really fine.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have purchased the laptop 3 months ago and suddenly from yesterday I am getting no battery detected notification on the battery status icon. My battery is charging and dischaging also but still the notification is shown there. I cannot see the status of how much power is left or if the battery is fully charged or not.
I am using Inspiron 15 3000 Series i5 Laptop. After sometime the battery status comes back. So its like going and coming back type problem.
I just unboxed my new 15R Special Edition. I plugged in the AC adapter and have no battery status light on the laptop. Should this light come one while charging even if the laptop is not on?

Next day started ok, got into yahoo, facebook, then kind of froze up. Eventually, would not do anything, manually shut it down, started it back up. Black screen, 'No Bootable Device-Insert Boot Disc And Press Any Key'. It will not accept recovery discs that I made after purchase. Start up test ok, memory test ok, hard disk failed 'Boot Drive Not Found'. Caps lock light is blinking. I saw something in a forum about resetting or reseating the hard drive but no explanantion how to do it.

The tests in which my laptop G505 59379534 is failing are given as Targeted read and smart short self test. Also against local connection test warning is shown. My OS is windows 8.1. Only couple of days back I have installed HP2545 printer on my PC. I do not know wheher this has something to do with present status of laptop. Also I am using Kaspersky internet security 2014. My dell laptop will load the dell screen but then go black. It had windows 7 on it. So I went under and selected diagnostic test under adipto? In which I am use to seeing a Bios screen labled Bios. The diagnostic ran but and passed everything except my hard drive. It recognizes and list on the Blue screen HDD Fixed and list a number. BUT under my diagnostic ut list the following code. 2000-0151 Vadlidation 62721 Msg : Hard Drive 0- #########, incorrect status =3E.
Do I need a new hard drive or does this mean I have bad sectors?

The 7 beeps means CPU crash test failure and the processor needs replaced.
Unfortunately, our laptop is out of warranty and Dell will charge me to have the processor replaced. My son has learning disabilities and requires this computer as it has programs that he needs for school that we don't have the disks for. I'm incredibly frustrated that Dell will not fix the processor without charge. After the very long and frustrating discussion with the Dell representative, we have decided that we will never purchase another Dell product. I will not be having the laptop fixed as I refuse to pay for repairs for an inferior product. If it was to be fixed and overheated again and damaged the processor, they will only provide a 90 day warranty for the replacement processor.
I will now have to purchase another laptop for my son and try and obtain the programs that he needs through the school board. However, all of his voice files are lost and he will have to spend hours retraining the new programs which will cause him much frustration.
Regarding "PCI Devices", something wrong, which drivers exactly I should to install in pavilion dv6 7013cl,I can not install this "PCI Devices". It says install but always unsucessful after I update, I have windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
