Dell :: XPS M1530/WinXP/S-Video Out

Oct 13, 2008

I installed XP on my 1530.

Everything works great. Well for sake of full disclosure, I have paired my phone to the laptop via the Bluetooth, but haven't transferred anything. And I don't have an HDMI device to test the HDMI output.

Which brings me to my issue. I can't get video out of the s-video port for love nor money.

I tried the nVidia/Dell driver 174.31. In the nVidia Control Panel/Change the Signal/HD source, I only get one option - Component. I tried reverting the old nVidia Control Panel style based on this thread [url] No joy.

Next, I upgraded to nVidia driver 177.66 from laptopvideo2go.com (with the modded .inf file). Nd change.
I tried both an s-video cable, and the Dell s-video to composite/s/pdif adapter. Nada.

Since I'm running XP and a non-Dell video driver, I really don't want to try Dell support. (I had a 3 hour conversation over the definition of 'overnight' when I ordered this 1530).

What else can I try, check, look for? I have read threads that suggest it might be a bad mainboard, which would suck big-time.

Dell :: M1530 Clean Install

Jan 23, 2009

I’m thinking of doing a clean install on my M1530, and im just trying to decide which options to go for, and which not to.

I will be installing Vista Ultimate. I mainly use the computer for internet surfing, watching films, using Microsoft office, and gaming (Fallout 3, Call of Duty 4 etc.).

The main things I am trying to decide are:

Should I install Mediadirect?

As far as I can see the only advantage of this is getting slightly more (can anyone confirm how much?) battery life whilst watching films on the go. I mainly watch films whilst connected to power, but this could be useful in the future.32 or 64 bit?

I have previously been running 32 bit, but would be more than happy to jump on the 64 bit bandwagon, as I have heard that it’s slightly snappier, and also my 4 gigs of ram would be put to full use. Would there be any compatibility issues with any of my games etc? Would appreciate some info on this. It could lead on to...Dual-boot?

Could have vista 32 and 64 dual booted? Or another thing that took my fancy was perhaps throwing on opensuse? I’m going to open a new thread regarding the battery life etc that this would give to try and decide if its for me,

I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro on my XPS m1530. I am using this driver pack:

Which AHCI driver(s) should I include? UDI mentions in his readme (Method 1) to use 82801HEM/HBM (Mobile) driver. This driver is in both iaahci.inf and iastor.inf. Which one should I use? I have a 7200 RPM SATA HD.

Dell :: How To Install Windows XP 64-Bit (x64) On XPS M1530

Nov 18, 2008

How to install Windows XP 64-Bit (x64) on XPS M1530

Is it possible? Yes it is! For those of us who enjoys Windows XP and need that 4GB+ ram for bragging rights, here is a HOWTO (with pictures) for you. This is working on a Dell XPS M1530 with an PM965 chipset, T9300 CPU, 4GB DDR2 ram, and 256MB GeForce 8600M GT video card. I will not guarantee that this will work on ALL Dell XPS M1530 systems. For those with the same laptop specs, this should work for you.

You will need:Basic knowledge of installing WindowsA genuine Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit CDDrivers pack (downloaded in this thread). This will not include drivers for your video card, touchpad, and fingerprint.Agree that by following these steps, I am in no way liable for your actions and you will take full responsibility to any damage to your computer, if it may occur

Steps:
Optional step, but recommended. Install the latest BIOS for your M1530 from the Dell website. More info on benefits of BIOS A11+ drivers here: 8 gb on xps m1530, with A11

Download the essential drivers pack HERE: [url]

Put this driver pack inside a flash drive or an external hard drive that uses a USB port. You will need this for later steps.

This essential drivers pack includes:

- Intel Mobile Chipset Driver
- Ricoh R5C832, R5C833, R5C843 Driver
- Sigmatel STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver
- Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller Driver
- Creative Labs Laptop Integrated Webcam Driver
- Intel Wireless WiFi Link Adapters Driver

*Most of these drivers are for other laptops such as the M1330, M1730, Inspiron, etc. that support Windows XP 64-Bit. Since these laptops share common hardwares, these drivers work fine on the M1530.
Before installing XP 64-Bit you need to disable the Flash Cache Module and switch the hard drive mode from AHCI to ATA. To do this, restart the computer, and then press F2 to go to the BIOS.

In BIOS under Flash Cache Module, change it to OFF:

Then under SATA Operation, switch it to ATA:

Is this the new nVIDIA update that I read about a few weeks ago here? Have any of you installed this update? Is it worth the install? Or should I just ignore it? What does it do better to my graphics card?

Acer :: 5930g AHCI Driver For WinXP

Sep 29, 2008

So I wanted to try out WinXP, to see the performance difference.

At first, the WinXP setup wasn't able to see the HDD. So I changed the SATA Controller Bios mode to IDE mode. (was AHCI for Vista).

I managed to install so have a dual booted system. However I can't use IDE mode for Vista. (must switch SATA bios each time).

Everything installed fine. Even got 3dMark06 increase of 150 points (not much lol). Oh and CrystalMark of 100K instead of 90K on Vista.

But I'd like to use AHCI mode for WinXP. Saw a link in a WinXP 5930g Guide, however that link was out of date.

The driver was called: "Intel(R) ICH9M M-E Family 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 2929 Driver".

HP/Compaq :: WinXP Drivers For My Pavillion Dv2000t

Feb 27, 2009

This dv2000t came with Vista installed but Vista is now broken and erased. I installed WinXP in place of Vista and I notice many of the hardware devices show yellow question mark icons in Windows device manager. The yellow question mark means no driver is installed for the device. I went to the HP driver download page (using a different computer because no network driver for the dv2000t) and I found MANY drivers for dv2000t hardware devices for which I have no driver. I can't tell which specific drivers I need. For example there are drivers for more than one type of network adapter but I don't know which adapter is in my dv2000t. Also the same situation for other hardware devices with missing drivers: the HP site has multiple drivers available and I don't know which one I need. OK

OK there is a service tag on the dv2000t which says:
SERIAL #: 2CE71317GD
PART #: RM669AV

Acer :: 5620z Vista To WinXP Pro With- On “IDE To AHCI” And “NO SOUND”

Nov 29, 2008

IDE to AHCI
Here is what I have as IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller
Intel ICH8M 3 port Serial ATA Storage Controller – 2828
Intel ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers – 2850
Primary IDE Channel
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
My laptop is a 5620z or 5620-4025 with a Hitachi HTS542512K9SA00 ATA Device. When I looked up this HD, it appears to be the standard SATA HD, or is it?

The original setup under VISTA, had ATA Channel 0 (twice) and ATA Channel 1 (twice) instead of the above Primary and Secondary IDE Channels.

The files to be used are in the requested C:Drive, yet I am reluctant to pull the trigger because I am not sure that I should nor am I sure which one of the above is the driver that is to be changed if when I make the change.

NO SOUND
One other thing has be going in circles regarding sound with the Realtek software. The Manager in the 3D Audio Demo works fine………….but……..the MultiMedia, which is most important, indicates that there is NO Audio Device.

After installation files were copied to the hard drive, I restarted without cd and when setup continued, it gave me "file ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. Error code is 7".

On MS support site they say about ACPI or memory problems and suggest to press F7 during that step to skip ACPI check, but it doesnt help in my case.

Acer :: Freezing - Tried To Install My Original Drivers And They Won't Install

Dec 7, 2009

I have had an aspire 5920g for about 18 months now and it was all working fine until I updated the graphic drivers, but the drivers stopped installing halfway through and now I can't install any graphic drivers.

I tried to install my original drivers and they won't install. The system keeps freezing and I think thats the problem.

I've tried making a recovery disc but erecovery won't recognize blank DVD's and acer 'support' are only too happy to grab you by your feet, turn you upside down and let all your money fall out so they can charge you for a reovery disc - absolutely ridiculous - instead of actually trying to help me.

And also for some reason a yellow triangle appeared next to the ACEYTS4Y IDE controller a week after I got it but up until now didn't seem to cause any problems.
