View 10 RepliesThis dv2000t came with Vista installed but Vista is now broken and erased. I installed WinXP in place of Vista and I notice many of the hardware devices show yellow question mark icons in Windows device manager. The yellow question mark means no driver is installed for the device. I went to the HP driver download page (using a different computer because no network driver for the dv2000t) and I found MANY drivers for dv2000t hardware devices for which I have no driver. I can't tell which specific drivers I need. For example there are drivers for more than one type of network adapter but I don't know which adapter is in my dv2000t. Also the same situation for other hardware devices with missing drivers: the HP site has multiple drivers available and I don't know which one I need. OK
OK there is a service tag on the dv2000t which says:
SERIAL #: 2CE71317GD
PART #: RM669AV
I just updated my 7900GS drivers to nVidia ForceWare 84.63.
efore, I had 7x.xx something.
The good thing is that my 3dMark06 score went up by 300 points, but the bad thing is that CS:S started lagging like hell.
Before, I could run CSS with everything on high, and have 90+ FPS almost constant. Now, with the new drivers, I have to run everything on low-medium, and it still laggs below 20 fps in firefights, which is very annoying.
Is it possible that older drivers are actually better than newer?
I installed XP on my 1530.
Everything works great. Well for sake of full disclosure, I have paired my phone to the laptop via the Bluetooth, but haven't transferred anything. And I don't have an HDMI device to test the HDMI output.
Which brings me to my issue. I can't get video out of the s-video port for love nor money.
I tried the nVidia/Dell driver 174.31. In the nVidia Control Panel/Change the Signal/HD source, I only get one option - Component. I tried reverting the old nVidia Control Panel style based on this thread [url] No joy.
Next, I upgraded to nVidia driver 177.66 from laptopvideo2go.com (with the modded .inf file). Nd change.
I tried both an s-video cable, and the Dell s-video to composite/s/pdif adapter. Nada.
Since I'm running XP and a non-Dell video driver, I really don't want to try Dell support. (I had a 3 hour conversation over the definition of 'overnight' when I ordered this 1530).
What else can I try, check, look for? I have read threads that suggest it might be a bad mainboard, which would suck big-time.
I have a Dell XPS 1330 that happily runs Windows XP.
It has the Mata DVD+-Rw UJ-857G writer.
It can read DVDs alright, but I never ever managed to write any CD or DVD with it .....
I want to install WinXP on my Inspiron 1520, but I need the SATA drivers.

First disabled “Flash Cache” and set SATA AHCI mode in BIOS to SATA ATA mode. After i installed Win XP SP2 when i tried to install SATA AHCI driver i got the message "system does not meet minimum requirements".
I got the rest of the drivers installed,Win XP is working fine with one problem RAM is showing as 3.5GB when the actual is 4GB.Looking forward for a resolution
For curiosity I just want to know, If we have dual boot install of WinXP SP and Ubuntu after complete removal of WinVista, does the machine found all drivers and the machine runs smoothly ?

I have a Acer TM 4000 which I am trying to reinstall windows xp. I can boot into windows setup, but as soon as i get to "windows setup is starting windows" the laptop shuts down? i have tried different hard drives, changing the ram, trying battery only and a/c power only... all with the same result..
sometimes i can reach the screen that asks if i want to repair or install windows, but after a few seconds it shuts down
Is it possible to install winXP on MBA without the superdrive?
I know you can install Mac OS X via remotely without external cd drive since OS X cd has the file required for it.
So I want to know if there's a way installing winxp without it and if there is, can someone give me a tip or anyone had successful install without the superdrive?
When I connect my Z590 via HDMI to TV nothing happens. Same TV and HDMI cable work when connecting to a Vista Lenovo laptop
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I wanted to try out WinXP, to see the performance difference.
At first, the WinXP setup wasn't able to see the HDD. So I changed the SATA Controller Bios mode to IDE mode. (was AHCI for Vista).
I managed to install so have a dual booted system. However I can't use IDE mode for Vista. (must switch SATA bios each time).
Everything installed fine. Even got 3dMark06 increase of 150 points (not much lol). Oh and CrystalMark of 100K instead of 90K on Vista.
But I'd like to use AHCI mode for WinXP. Saw a link in a WinXP 5930g Guide, however that link was out of date.
The driver was called: "Intel(R) ICH9M M-E Family 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 2929 Driver".
I've tried following many of the differing explanations on how to do this. I'm to the point where I'm going to pull my hair out! I can't figure out how to burn a "bootable" cd to flash the bios of my card. Is there a way to OC without flashing it? I've got a rev0 7900.

My laptop is a 5620z or 5620-4025 with a Hitachi HTS542512K9SA00 ATA Device. When I looked up this HD, it appears to be the standard SATA HD, or is it?
The original setup under VISTA, had ATA Channel 0 (twice) and ATA Channel 1 (twice) instead of the above Primary and Secondary IDE Channels.
The files to be used are in the requested C:Drive, yet I am reluctant to pull the trigger because I am not sure that I should nor am I sure which one of the above is the driver that is to be changed if when I make the change.
NO SOUND
One other thing has be going in circles regarding sound with the Realtek software. The Manager in the 3D Audio Demo works fine………….but……..the MultiMedia, which is most important, indicates that there is NO Audio Device.
I have a FZ180E but this could be about any FZ series I guess!
I connect it with HDMI cable with no problem to TV and have sound with windows vista. But with XP I get only image and no sound !
I purchased a laptop for my sister, it is the HP Dv4-1280us.
I installed WinXP, and found that I am having a hard time finding the drivers for it on the internet.
Even HP's website only have drivers for Vista.
I'm getting my E1705 back from repair tomorrow and I'm going to push the thing to it's limits. I used to frequent these forums before they were redesigned, and it seems my old user name is gone as well -- so I get to start back over.
Using I8kfangui, and a PA-13 or a PA-15 -- whats the easiest way to push the laptop to it's "safest" limits.
I noticed the "new" JuanLu bios lets you overclock via software now which is nice. Depending on my bios revision once I can check again, which should I pick? I hear of some folks using the GTX bios on the GS, but like I said -- I'm so out of the loop now that it's not funny.
I'll probably look into dropping a FX2500 in there at some point in the near future, is there a guide to hardmodding the E1705 like this?
Anyhow, if some veterans will chime in and give this newb all over again some guidance to do this right, let me know.
I Have a NVIDIA 7900GS in my Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop and AGAIN, the card has gone out on me.
This time it lasted about 8 months and coincidentally, it was a few days after i reformatted the computer.
Are there any other video cards that I could use in the computer without having to do any modifications?
Does anyone know of a place to buy a NVIDIA 7900GS or or equivalent card at a respectable price?
I will overclock my 7900GS, what i the best clock for my 7900gs( i had already flash my bios for the 7900, but i dont know witch max clock can i take)-- i will play Crysis, this lags!
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 1705e with a 7900GS. The GPU was replaced (twice) about 1.5 years ago under warranty due to failure most likely caused by overheating.
I installed a fan tool (forget which one) and set the fan/temp speeds pretty conservative to keep the GPU cool. Now it's running 1800rpm non-stop to keep the GPU at a reported 63°C.
That's with no programs running, just after boot. If I put the system to sleep, then wake it up, GPU temp is reported at <30C, then creeps back up to 60C+ .....
I have acer 5570-4011 laptop with vista home (and ubuntu on a separate partition). I rebooted from cd, using winxp pe, deleted all files on vista partition, except those in the root, and started to install win xp pro. After installation files were copied to the hard drive, I restarted without cd and when setup continued, it gave me "file ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. Error code is 7".
On MS support site they say about ACPI or memory problems and suggest to press F7 during that step to skip ACPI check, but it doesnt help in my case.
How can I install WinXP ?
I've just reinstalled Windows XP on a TravelMate 5510, and almost everything went fine.
All the drivers has been downloaded from here.
Now i got a problem and seems i can't get rid of it.
Audio is not working, but i installed the drivers correctly. The program (AzMixerSel.exe) crashes everytime i run it. I don't know if having this .exe working would let me hear something, but that's an issue.
I installed this audio driver -->
Am i missing something important?
Funny thing is that i got a kind of Bluetooth Audio Controller since when i installed this ->Bluetooth Driver 5.1.2535 and Utilitiy 5.0.1.1500.zip
here it goes:
My NVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS has just failed in my Inspiron 9400 a few days ago and Dell is sending out a tech to replace it. Problem is, is that when I bought this laptop back in February 2006 it originally came with the GeForce Go 7800, the 7900 card was an upgrade that I purchased myself from Dell spare parts in October last year(it only had a 90 day warranty).
So because the 90 day warranty is up on my 7900 card Dell tech support told me that since the 7800 card can be the only card covered by my 3 year complete care warranty the tech being dispatched will come out with a 7800 Go card to replace my busted Go 7900 GS. Do you guys think this makes any sense? First of all, I thought that there were no more refurbished 7800 cards even left!
What are the chances that the support tech did not know what he was talking about and the tech being dispatched will be showing up with a 7900 GS anyways?
I've got my 7900GS flashed so I can change the Clockrate, but the drivers I'm using I guess are causing my ATI tool to reset the clock settings I put.
I used: This site to flash
I set the slide and hit "set clock" it just resets to 375/507.
I'm guessing it's the drivers. I had some drivers that would let me do just the memory, but I'm looking to get both memory and core. What do you think it is?
I feel like somehow it isn't flashed anymore. Not sure, I know I flashed it, but I can't get it to respond to overclocking at all.
Computer Info:
OS: Vista
Video Card: 7900GS
I woke up from my nap today to see my 1 year old E1705 with the blue screen of death, except this time there were verticle lines all over the place like there was a video card problem.
So I reboot and It cant get into windows, and the lines come back. It starts to load vista then goes to the blue screen saying I have a memory/parity error. Next I try safemode and it works fine. No lines, no memory errors, no blue screens.
The first thing that came to mind is my overclocked 7900GS. Right now I am in the process of setting it back to the stock clocks. I feel like maybe I fried my beloved card with the slight overclock Ive had on it for the past year. Maybe Im right, maybe Im wrong.
If this doesnt work, what the heck do I do? Video card? Memory? I dont want to have to call Dell.

I have a DELL inspiron 9400 notebook with a 258mb nvidia 7900GS graphics card.
When the notebook was at 3 weeks out of warranty, the card stop working (BURNT OUT).
I contacted DELL, the reply was It out of warranty, take it to repairer. Did that (Nov08), 10 weeks later got it back, only for the card to burn out again within 20 hours. Returned the unit
to the repairer (April09), and at 24 June09 have not been repaired (waiting on replacement)
Why won't mine unlock? I've flashed JuanLu's modded BIOS like twenty times, and it won't unlock for CoolBits. So I'm stuck with using NiBiTor.
View 15 Replies View RelatedIm writing this so that others who are curious about these types of cards can decide if the upgrade is right for them. This installation required me opening the laptop and breaking off a small piece of plastic, which was very easy. I also updated the system BIOS to A09 and acquired the 130 W PSU as this baby draws about 45W of power itself compared to the 20 the GS requires.
When I originally bought the GS I knew it was a good card. It still is. I got this card because I felt the upgrade would be more cost effective then rebuilding my old desktop PC. All I can say is that where the GTX shines is where the GS shows its weak spots. The GTX can really handle higher resolutions really well as well as keep the frame rate fairly smooth.
For my temps, since I AS5'd it, runs at about 45 idle and 75 peak which is fairly good considering all thats going on.
The biggest jump was in STALKER which quite honestly the GS really had trouble with. Im happy to report the GTX can max out this engine fairly well with little to no choppiness.
Well shoot, what are we waiting for lets see some pics and results.
7900GS specs
7900GTX specs
Bioshock- All Mazed out- no Vsync- 1920x1200 20-30FPS
Gears of War- All Maxed out- No Vsync- 20-30FPS
Stalker- All Maxed out- 1600x1200- Smooth 30-45FPS
In conclusion, the GTX stomps all over the GS in higher resolutions and with the extra clock and memory speed it can easily outperform the GS in almost every aspect. It should be noted these are stock speeds and OC'ing would result in hopefully even better performance.
Well I just installed Vista 64. I loaded BF2 and it runs like crap. Does anyone know where I can get a Vista 64 driver for the 7900GS. If I cant get a better driver than the stock MS one I am going back to XP.
