View 4 RepliesMy laptop does not seem to be loading windows. I cannot sign on or access anything on my laptop. I have done a diagnostic test and the following errors come up:
Error code 0146
Msg error code 2000-0146
Msg hard drive 0 - self test log contains previous errors.
I am able to sign on to windows and my documents.
Just saw this on the dell malaysia website. seems to be the replacement for the vostro 1200. nice specs at almost netbook prices yet its a powerful 12" notebook
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am thinking about picking up a Vostro 1220 to replace a faulty HP laptop, however, there are not many reviews about Vostro 1220 on the web, certainly not from any established review site like this one or Cnet.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am thinking of buying a Vostro 1220 because I now need a portable computer to carry around with me all the time. However, I have only found one review and that wasn't very detailed.
I am particularly concerned about fan noise - I have a 17" Inspiron 9400 at the moment and it doesn't make any noise until it has been on for a long time, but I imagine that a smaller computer may have small heat sinks and therefore need to have the fan running at a higher speed all the time
I guess this little beast of a portable deserves an owner's lounge too.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have updated my HP Pavilion dv4 1220 US to Windows 7 (64 bit). Every components are working properly. However, my internal speakers does not working. My laptop sound only with a headphones or external speakers.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm assuming that many of you are gamers since you purchased the XPS.
Can you give me any recommendations on games that really take advantage of the XPS 1530 and are awsome to play?
I just received my new dv4-1220-us laptop and would like to install XP on it rather than keeping Vista. HP's website doesn't have XP drivers for this particular model, but when I searched for "Pavillion dv4" there were over 300 returned, so I am hopeful that a comparable model will have XP drivers available.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a 15" Vostro laptop, only 2 years old, that won't start. When I press the on button, the first (top) blue light to the left of the keyboard flashes quickly, but then nothing happens. Now there are three blue lights to the left of the power button that are blinking on and off.
View 7 Replies View RelatedPressing I/O Start Button results in nothing (no blinks, sound, nothing at all).
Blue "Ready Light" lights up when plugged in.
Swapped out AC adapter with one from a Latitude 510 Laptop. Numbers were all identical.Â
The Vostro ac adapter works on the Latitude 510.
The Latitude 510 ac adapter has the same result as the Vostro power supply. Ergo, ac adapter  is good.
The I/O switch appears to be loose. (Probable problem.)
I want something around 12 to 13", fast, that can handle the latest windows without lag or anything.
I don't plan to play games on this laptop, maybe some movies. I will usually be using it for Word, internet, and regular things.
I saw this Vostro 1320 and this are the specs that Dell is offering, which seems pretty good for the price:

I have had my Vostro 1500 for around 18 months now and it has been problem free so far until yesterday evening.
Basically my girlfriend was doing a bit of surfing and I had some music streaming at the same time. All of a sudden there was a loud clicking coming from the laptop.
I thought it was the music at first! but I managed to mute the sound and it was the laptop. It was quite a loud click happening at least twice a second .....

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy Vostro 5460 sounds like rattling marbles very loud whenever the fan kicks in. I bought the laptop in Thailand but now live in the U.S. How to get spare parts or diagnostics?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never used a laptop before (I prefer to work on a server machine) but am considering one at present.I'm looking at a Vostro 3500 but that could change.
1) Can I use a standard USB keyboard and mouse with such a laptop? (No need for special devices!)
2) Are there any problems with PS-2 to USB adaptors connecting keyboard and mouse to a USB port? (Yes I have a few keyboards and mice in storage!)
3)Â Can I install a standard out of the box version of Windows 7 Ultimate (already licensed) on the Vostro 3500?
4) I saw reference somewhere to touch screen control in Win 7 coming sometime. What are the release plans for such capabilities in Dell laptops?
For some reason when i press on the FN+F4 or F5 this brings up the small display showing the brightness level but it will only move the level one or two notches in either direction. It will not adjust the brightness of the LCD display on the laptop at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell vostro 3360, I installed window 8 , I also installed driver for sensor finger but can't use it. What need I do to get it working....
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhy has my Laptop Vostro 3550 started beeping when I start up?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFinally i have received my Studio1557 this morning. it came along with pre installed windows7 home premium 64bit. but i had Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit and as i like windows Vista more than Windows7, so i have just installed it.
now i m updating service packs. i will install Windows7 as well. anyway, i want to share with u something that, once windows is booting, after the dell logo it takes 30seconds to show up the log in screen. it's unusual.
I bought a Vostro 3550 almost one year ago. About two weeks ago, most times I turn on the laptop, some loud beeps play (probably some warning beeps), but now, those beeps still make their presence, in lower intensity, during the usage of the machine. It is really irritating. I do not have a clue about what to look for or what it can be.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have Dell Vostro 1400 and I am facing a very wierd issue. My laptop types automatically in the search or in a browser if it is open and in any application that it can type. It mostly types "asdf;lkj" like this. Again when I use a media player it automatically increase or decreases the volume to the max. and sometimes restart the player. It again sometimes automatically locks my computer.
TRIED THINGS:
1. I have already formated my laptop many times and also updated the BIOS as I thought it as a VIRUS problem. Also, I have tried different antivirus software but all in vain.
2. I have also dislodged my laptop keyboard and using an external keyboard; but this is also not working.
3. Prior to all these I have called DELL Service for support. But they also could not offer me a satisfactory answer.
After an automatic update of a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop with Windows 7 on it, I got the following problem :Â
- First, I got the black screen with the information "Applying update operation 3 of 18014 (_0000000000000000_)
- Then it shows a quick blue screen and then the computer restarts directly.Â
- I have been able to display the complete blue screen message. Here it is :Â
          STOP : c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000034 0x001005b0). The system has been shut down
I tried to start the recovery tools of Windows but it keeps on saying that it's not able to recover the system. With this information :Â
- Event name : StartupRepairOffline
- Signature 1 : 6.1.7600.16385
- Signature 2 : 6.1.7600.16385
- Signature 3 : unknown
- Signature 4 : 21200238
- Signature 5 : AutoFailOver
- Signature 6 : 15
- Signature 7 : NoRootCause
System version : 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
I tried the folowing operation :Â
- Start in safe mode : Always the blue screen
- Restore and old version : Same recovery error message
- Start in command line : always the blue screen.Â
Is there any way to restore this computer?
So I ordered my XPS1640 about 2-3 weeks ago. Arrived at my house on Monday. Later that day I go onto Dell's website, and see my exact same laptop on sale for $150 less than what I paid.
The only difference is lack of McAfee and a smaller HDD. So I customized it the same as mine, with McAfee and the larger HDD and I still would've saved $60-70.
Do I have a legitimate beef here? Should I call and complain, and will they do anything for me anyways?
I just received my E6500 from the outlet after having returned a new studio 17.
1. Was I supposed to receive any sort of owners manual with this thing?
There are a handful of disks but no manual save for a small warranty booklet.
2. It has XP on it and I think it came with the ability to put vista business on it. I am not particularly wedded to xp, should I just go ahead and put vista on? Is vista closer interface wise to whatever the next generation of windows is (windows 7)?
3. This E6500 has the 1440x900 led screen as did my studio 17. The screen on the 17 was absolutely brilliant but the screen on this E6500 seems more fuzzy or dull. Not as sharp and vibrant as the screen on the 17. To be perfectly honest, the screen on this E6500 doesn't seem that much nicer than the one on my 2001 Latitude.
4. Refresh my memory on how I increase the pixels to get bigger text.
5. When I hit the function key and the "auto" screen brightness key the screen goes very dark. Is this supposed to be the ambient light/brightness deal?
