I have the 1640 with the BD-RE at newest firmware, but I can't get the Lost University to load off of the disk with PowerDVD, I was able to pull it up with Total Media Theatre but it won't play the sound from the videos.

My cd-key is not working or retail versions of Vista that's why I need the OEM disc.
Is there anyway I can order it again from dell?
I ordered a new laptop on 19th Feb, and it was scheduled to arrive last Thursday - it didn't.
When I called the courier they told me that it was lost and that Dell has to do an investigation for three days before a replacement can be arranged.
So three days have now passed and Dell tells me that they don't have any note on the account that the investigation has been completed, so they can't arrange a replacement yet .....
I have never set up a hdd password but someone did on my Dell laptop Inspiron 17. I can't get past this and don't know how to disable or reset or clear this requirement. I can get into Setup but can't do anything without satisfying the hdd password requirement.

normally there is a subscription for free when you buy your laptop. i lost that icon because of a hard drive wipe.
were do i get that software again? and no dell.com/datasafe dont work. i need the software that you get that will make you an account based on your service tag so it know what to give you for size.
I've been trying to sort out my girlfriends inspiron which is running v v slowly (loads of spyware, viruses etc). I really wanted to do I fresh installation of XP but my girlfriend thinks she threw away the relevant cd ('well, I've never needed any of those cds before!).
I've rung Dell UK but its out of warranty so they wont send a new one. Currently on hold to technical support to see how much it will be to order a new one (15 mins so far!).
However, I was wondering whether there is any easier/cheaper way to get the recovery cd? I think I have a friend with a normal XP home cd but this would be difficult to get hold of plus I assume I would have to find all the drivers (don't want to spend too much time on this). Another alternative which was suggested was to do a System Restore but when I load it up it only allows me to select dates from October (the only restore point in October is one I created a few days ago before I started trying to uninstall a load of stuff).
how to get hold of this cd?
My new inspiron 13 was ghosting and I calibrated the touch screen and now the right hand menu does not appear when I swipe.

I've had this computer (Inspiron N5110, Windows 7) for about 9 months and it's been great until now. The touchpad is now super sensitive and the cursor seems to go anywhere it wants, probably because my palms barely brush it when I'm typing but I usually feel like I am not touching it at all. It will open whatever the cursor is hovering over, even when I don't click it. I tried to find the settings for the touchpad under Control Panel>Mouse but there is nothing for the touch pad.Am I just not looking in the right spot for the settings?

I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop and suddenly it started showing a pecular behavior. Wifi works properly when the laptop runs on battery. The moment I connect the adapter and power the mains on, it looses the connectivity and it newer shows any wifi connections available. If I remove the power adapter from the laptop, wifi starts working again.
I verified by connecting another power adapter and saw the same problem. Condition is same with another wifi connection also.
I own a Dell Inspiron N4110, Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.
Today when I wanted to access my BIOS settings, I found out that I had already set one. It has been more than a year since I last accessed my BIOS. Now what the pass-code is. I looked up Google on how to recover the pass-code and none of it worked. A post I read on Microsoft said to ask the computer manufacturer if there is a "universal pass-code" ( something like that ) so that I can use it to access the BIOS and then reset the pass-code.
If you cannot seem to get a universal pass-code, I'm open to other methods on how to reset the BIOS pass-code.

View 4 Replies View RelatedBefore I get grilled for not backing up my documents, I want to say I did, I just forgot about the files in my PSD ( i know of all files to forget).
So I sent my laptop in for repair, comes back they have done a clean install of windows.
I got my laptop back this morning and when i started to transfer my back up files back over i remembered that i forgot to back up my PSD files. Is there any chance of recovering them after a reinstallation of windows? with my knowledge the answer would be no, correct? Hopefully there is some lifesaver out there that knows how to get them back. Awaiting replies and hoping for the best.
forgot to mention my laptop is an acer 6920g.
Booted up my 6920 this evening and I don't have a drive D: anymore! I checked the disk management utility and it's showing the drive as an healthy OEM partition, with no drive letter. Right clicking the drive only gives me the Help option for the DMU, so I can't assign a letter or do anything with the drive - even format it!
I don't actually want to format it, of course. I want the drive letter back.
So far, I've tried a Windows System Restore to a checkpoint yesterday (when I last accessed the drive), but that's not sorted it.

I have checked Power Settings to make sure wifi adapter remains enabled at all times. Have also gone to Control Panel --> network and sharing --> change adapter settings --> right click on connected wifi network ---> properties --> configure --> power management --> untick allow computer to turn off this device to save power.Would like to use the laptop with lid closed by pluggin it through my TV via HDMI cable, but can't because of the loss of wifi.
I have lost my performance and maintenance system in the control panel, and I would like to know how to retrieve it or replace it for free.
I like to use the sleep and hibernate on my laptop but I need to get the performance.

Anyway, i have a sort of quick half-solution that i can share if your battery is stuck at below 100% and can live without the battery care program.
Apparently the setting is saved in the battery memory, if you want to change the battery charge setting, stick it in another Vaio that has the battery care program working
I have an Acer 5720G. I have lost power on the 4 USB ports.
All work okay if I use a powered hub so it looks like its just a power issue. How can I get them working properly again?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought an HP-DV6 1045EE, but I didn't like the partition scheme..
This was the way it first was:
C:Local Disk [288gb]
D:Recovery [10gb]
C was preloaded with Windows Vista. I shrunk the partition using Vista's Disk Management as much as I could, and shrunk it further to 50gb using Gparted. After doing this, I couldn't boot into Vista anymore. So I restored the image using the recovery manager.
I then created another 50gig partition for Win7, and installed it. All well and good.
Then I created an extended partition out of the remaining space, since all other partitions were primary, and created two logical partitions, 1 unformatted and the other NTFS.
After this, I booted into Vista and saw that my recovery partition had turned to unallocated space, even though I'd made sure not to touch that partition no matter what...
I had a folder on my desktop and yesterday it disappeared. I also had some files in a folder "untitled folder" with some numbers after the "untitled folder" and, although I was able to save files to it, I can't find it on the hard drive.
I've had my Mac for a few months (and love it) but there are still so many things that I haven't figured out. On Windows you can "restore" the computer to a former date and have things just the way they were on that date.
Is that possible with OSX? It's not a disaster. Nothing critical lost (I hope) but I'm wondering what happened and what I might have done to "lose" those folders.
This afternoon, I erased the hard disk of my Macbook Pro 13'' with the idea that I had carefully saved all data on my external hard disk. After OSX Leopard was installed, I attempted to restore my Firefox profile to only find out that I had copied the wrong data to my external hard disk. Namely, the Firefox cache data instead of the profile itself.
The Firefox cache data can be found in 'user name' -> library -> caches -> Firefox -> Profiles, whereas I apparently should have copied the profile that can be found in 'user name' -> library -> application support -> Firefox -> Profile.
Now it seems that I didn't format the system properly as there are several files in the trash bin that I deleted before I erased the hard disk - even though I did erase the disk through the Disk Utility.
Therefore, I want to know whether there is any possibility to retrieve the profile that I need in order to restore my bookmarks/configuration for Firefox.
Daughter told me that her MacBook Pro looks like it lost the video card again. I plugged it into my MacBook Pro and got her homework files off of it. I'm going to bring it into the Apple Store this morning where they will most likely replace the motherboard but it will be down for a week. The system is a few months shy of three years old so the extended warranty should cover it.
My question is do current MBPs still have the video card problem? This is the second MB replacement for this computer so I expect the replacement motherboard to last about 1.5 years. I would probably want to buy a replacement before then so that she doesn't lose her system during school. I think that we have enough in the way of spares so that she can get by - I'm probably going to give her my Dell XPS M1330 for the week but I'd like a long-term solution. I don't think that I will give her my MBP as she games and I don't want to lose my system.
