Dell Inspiron 17 :: HDD Password Lost
Dec 17, 2014I have never set up a hdd password but someone did on my Dell laptop Inspiron 17. I can't get past this and don't know how to disable or reset or clear this requirement. I can get into Setup but can't do anything without satisfying the hdd password requirement.

Oct 20, 2008I've been trying to sort out my girlfriends inspiron which is running v v slowly (loads of spyware, viruses etc). I really wanted to do I fresh installation of XP but my girlfriend thinks she threw away the relevant cd ('well, I've never needed any of those cds before!).
I've rung Dell UK but its out of warranty so they wont send a new one. Currently on hold to technical support to see how much it will be to order a new one (15 mins so far!).
However, I was wondering whether there is any easier/cheaper way to get the recovery cd? I think I have a friend with a normal XP home cd but this would be difficult to get hold of plus I assume I would have to find all the drivers (don't want to spend too much time on this). Another alternative which was suggested was to do a System Restore but when I load it up it only allows me to select dates from October (the only restore point in October is one I created a few days ago before I started trying to uninstall a load of stuff).
how to get hold of this cd?

Apr 1, 2013a few weeks ago (I think after the last windows update) all of a sudden my touchpad settings were gone. I've had this computer (Inspiron N5110, Windows 7) for about 9 months and it's been great until now. The touchpad is now super sensitive and the cursor seems to go anywhere it wants, probably because my palms barely brush it when I'm typing but I usually feel like I am not touching it at all. It will open whatever the cursor is hovering over, even when I don't click it. I tried to find the settings for the touchpad under Control Panel>Mouse but there is nothing for the touch pad.Am I just not looking in the right spot for the settings?

Jun 11, 2014I own a Dell Inspiron N4110, Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.
Today when I wanted to access my BIOS settings, I found out that I had already set one. It has been more than a year since I last accessed my BIOS. Now what the pass-code is. I looked up Google on how to recover the pass-code and none of it worked. A post I read on Microsoft said to ask the computer manufacturer if there is a "universal pass-code" ( something like that ) so that I can use it to access the BIOS and then reset the pass-code.
If you cannot seem to get a universal pass-code, I'm open to other methods on how to reset the BIOS pass-code.

Nov 18, 2011I recently converted from a Lenovo X220 to a the Dell Latitude XT3. The XT3 is a better laptop minus a couple design choices. That said, there is one feature in particular that I will miss the most....My old X220 fingerprint reader allowed me to swipe with the latop powered down. This action would boot up the PC and log me in. This doesn't seem to work the same on the XT3. Instead, I must power it up then swipe in two separate steps.
Is there a way to get the XT3 to respond to a finger swipe while it is powered down?

Nov 18, 2014According to the solutions I found when I googled the problem, I should be able to disable edge swipe by simply updating the synaptics drivers and turning off "edge swipe" under synpatics settings. However, there is no such setting even with the latest drivers 17.xx
According to a link given as a solution to the same problem, this page was given as a link, and its the same solution I saw on google. [URL] .....
However, I do not have the option to turn it off under settings.
Dell Inspiron 15z :: Ultrabook Lost External Drive Backup Files To Recovery Creation?
Apr 3, 2013Inspiron 15z Ultrabook, Windows 8, DELL System Recovery.
I have an external Seagate Expansion Drive 2TB and had backup files on it. I created a new partition by shrinking the E: volume and made F: to use for the DELL System Recovery.
I selected the F: partition when asked what drive to use. I was 100% certain E: would never chosen during any steps in the process. After it finished I looked in Computer and found both partitions had been formatted and a DBR_Boot placed in both. Yet E: (where personal files were stored) is basically empty other than what appears to be a boot up capability and F: has the recovery files.
Why has this happened? I need those files. Is there a way to reverse the process or will file recovery software be needed in an attempt to regain those files?
I can't believe this hasn't happened to other people, must be a common occurrence. What I could do to recover lost files.

Jan 8, 2009The keyboard is sticking out from the right hand side...So I can literally lift it up from the lap top using my finger.
Also the lap top doesn't stay balanced sitting on a table. It rocks back forth as if one of eraser pads underneath is bigger than the other. But that's not the case after I examined it..
I've only had it for 5 months and today is the first day I noticed these things...It's never been dropped or anything with light use.
I have the extended warranty, I wonder if its covered.
Lenovo Yoga 13 Flex :: Touchscreen Swipe Gestures Consistently Don't Work First Time
Jun 10, 2013Whenever I do a gesture from the side after not touching the screen for more than 4 seconds, it doesn't work. It instead registers it as a swipe on the screen near the edge. This is very annoying. It happens constantly.
I suspect this may be the result of a power-saving feature. Maybe the touch-screen turns off after a few seconds and needs to be awoken by tapping it before swiping in from the side. If this is the case, then please up the timer from 3 or 4 seconds to more like 30 or 60. This ruins the smooth flow of Windows 8, if I'm watching a video full-screen in IE and it registers taps of the screen as a pause command, I can't open up the start menu or dock the app to the side without first pausing the video.
Do I need to update drivers? Any update that I'm missing, but I didn't even see an appropriate driver on the driver page. None of them said anything about touch-screen.

Dell :: 1640 Speakers Weird (right Hand Side Speaker Is MUCH Louder Than My Than The Left Speaker)
Mar 2, 2010I've been listening to a bunch of podcasts on my laptop lately and realized that the right hand side speaker is MUCH louder than my than the left speaker, in fact if I lower the balance on the right speaker to 0% and left to 100% it's not half as loud as the right at 100%. Is this normal? If not is there a fix for this?
Also when typing, if I press the Caps lock key too fast the cursor disappears and my typing is interrupted anyone know is up with that?

Dec 21, 2009I have the 1640 with the BD-RE at newest firmware, but I can't get the Lost University to load off of the disk with PowerDVD, I was able to pull it up with Total Media Theatre but it won't play the sound from the videos.

When I called the courier they told me that it was lost and that Dell has to do an investigation for three days before a replacement can be arranged.
So three days have now passed and Dell tells me that they don't have any note on the account that the investigation has been completed, so they can't arrange a replacement yet .....
