Is there a way to recover laptop without the recovery disk? I'm told there may be this function on the computer itself...but don't know how to get there..
View 4 Replies View RelatedBooted up my 6920 this evening and I don't have a drive D: anymore! I checked the disk management utility and it's showing the drive as an healthy OEM partition, with no drive letter. Right clicking the drive only gives me the Help option for the DMU, so I can't assign a letter or do anything with the drive - even format it!
I don't actually want to format it, of course. I want the drive letter back.
So far, I've tried a Windows System Restore to a checkpoint yesterday (when I last accessed the drive), but that's not sorted it.
I had this problem with my hp pavilion dv6-6b54er entertainment notebook pc. I got the new windows 8.1 64-bit and i lost all my drivers i restored most of them except for the biometric device driver. My bsi sensor wont even lit or flash
When u get to the device manager there is an unknown driver instead, also i cant the biometric devices is missing from the control panel.
I have a HP 630 laptop with Windows 7 64 bit ultimate . After formatting the hard drive of the computer, I reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate.
Now it can't connect to the internet through wireless. I've tried all the basics: pressing the WIFI enable/disable toggle key on my keyboard, restarting my computer, enabling disabling the internet connection in the network area, etc.
Under Device Manager I see 2 devices related to the wireless internet:
1. Other devices > Network Controller - it has a yellow warning sign next to it - the error is for having no drivers installed.
2. Network adapters > Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller - "This device is working properly."
Below are the hardware ID's for the network controller that is not working:

&DEV_002B&CC_028000PCIVEN_168C&DEV_002B&CC_0280
What should I do? How can I get my wireless internet to work again?
I upgraded my notebook from windows 8 to windows 8.1; after that, I lost my wifi connection. There is no problem with internet connection as I can use wifi in my ipad.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I have purchased a DELL XPS 15 (L521X) but I am not able to install windows 8 pro on it as the installer could not find the hard disk and keep continuously ask for the driver.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI just received my XPS 15 and plan on dual-booting Win 7 and Ubuntu. I'm trying to install both, but I have no disk drive boot option in UEFI mode, only in legacy mode.
How can I boot from a disk using UEFI mode?
I reinstalled windows 7 home premium on my machine, using the same serial number as the one that came with the laptop (I found the serial number by downloading some software that scanned my computer and told me what it was). After installing windows, it told me that it was not genuine. I imagine that it is because it wasn't a version of Windows that has all that HP software pre-loaded on it. My hard drive still has a "recovery" partition, but what to do with that, or even if I can do anything with it anymore. So how can I make my Windows 7 home premium genuine? Do I have to reinstall another version of windows 7 home premium with the HP software included? Where do I find such download? Since I don't have a recovery disk, can I use that "recovery" partition of my hard drive for something?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have bought Dell Vostro 5460 come with Windows 8, when i bought. it don't have preinstall DVD but it have Windows 8 sticker on my laptop, and at first i not create a system image and system repair disk, and my friend installed windows 7 on my machine and format all hard disk. my question it is possible that i want to make laptop like first time that have Windows 8.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just borrowed my laptop to a friend and he said when he tried to boot it up he go this message.
The message I get when restarting is non-system disk or disk error, press a key to continue over and over.
When I click f10 before boot up there is a harddisk test option, where it says Hard Disk test failed, no disk installed.
So is it either the harddisk or the motherboard thats a problem? AFAIK nothing new was installed leading up to this. The computer is no longer under warranty.
Is there a way to do a fresh install from a restore disk with none of the bloatware? And then just install all the drivers?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently Had my HP Pavilion G7 crash on me which ran windows 8 (OEM) I was unable to restore it. I decided to downgrade to windows vista and do a clean install due to the fact I connot locate my w8 install disk. The problem im having is my network, display adaptors and other devices arent working and showing a yellow triangle with an exclamation point and ive done some research and tried fixes like unistalling and reinstalling but it still not working. Here is what is showing up with the exclamation points in yellow
network adapters
-acer NIC - 559A pro/100+ with alert on lan 2
Other devices
- SM bus Controller
-Universal serial bus(usb) controller
-universal serial bus (usb) controller
-Unkown device
I feel like if i can get online and get windows to update some of these things will clear up and fix. Now i did have problems with realtek PCIe FE Family Controller but i went and found the driver for that.here are some system info:
system Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
system model: HP pavilion g7 notebook pc
system type: x86 based pc (32bit)
processor: AMD A8 -4500M APU WITH RADEOM(TM) HD GRAPHICS,1900 HMZ 4 CORES
I did call HP free support because my warranty was up and they told me it seemed like an software issue or corruption and they felt confident they could fix it but they wanted me to pay for tech support which i dont mind but it would be a monthly service charge which i dont need constant tech support this is the first time ive ran into this issue they also told me that the tech would have me enter some Commands in command prompt to resolve this.
About a year ago I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 with Windows 8 preinstalled. My question is this:
I want to upgrade my hardware by replacing my current hard disk with an Solid State Disk. The problem is that in windows 8 there is not any program except the OneKey Recovery which obviously it isn't a Microsoft's official recovery application (such as the one in Windows 7). If I create a disk with OneKey then is there any way to use it to install windows 8 on the new SSD disk? How the pc is gonna recognize a backup disk created by an application which is not installed on it?
I have an interesting problem on my computer where it will boot, then crash, then boot properly. I'm not sure what is causing this (i turned on legacy for a while but reset back to defaults). I tried doing a windows reset already and this didn't work but I figure a complete factory reset should do the trick. I have burned recovery disks but cannot figure out how to use them. In the windows 8 advanced restart, I have tried the option to boot of usb as my dvd drive is external and it doesn't work. How to boot using the recovery disk? (the model is an envy 4)...
I managed to boot off them by turning off secure boot and changing the boot order to boot off usb optical drive in the bios menu....
My xps was having start-up issues and when trying to run the Vista Start-up Repair disk I received an error:
'The instruction at 0x7336e159 referenced memory at 0x00000076. The memory could not be read. Press CANCEL to terminate the program'.
Then at re-boot I accessed the boot menu and ran a PSA Diagnostic and received the following error code while scanning the processor memory:
' ERROR CODE: 0142 MSG: Error 2000-0142 MSG: Hard Drive 1-Self Test unsuccessful STATUS: 79'.
I have installation disks as follows:
Dell Drivers and Utilities for XPS M1530, Dell Windows Vista Home Premium 32BIT Reinstallation DVD, Dell Media Direct 3.5 for XPS Reinstallation Disk.
What can I do?
wanna know some things before i install Windows 7 as a primary OS? first of all i want to ask that can i partition the hard disk as i want. means rite now vista won't allow me to partition beyond 140Gb but i am having 210GB of free space! also if i ever wanted to return to Vista can i use Recovery to revert back? also is it a wise decision to go from vista to Windows 7?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got an Edge 13 with Windows Ultimate installed. I want to replace the existing disk with a SSD and I collect the windows key for the installation with jelly bean keyfinder.
The problem ist that windows does not recognize this key to activate windows. I also did not find the key on the notebook.
The key itself is valid because on the old disk Windows is activated....
One Key Recovery (Windows 8) doesnt give an option to create a recovery disk.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been given the task of restoring my brother's laptop after his hard disk gave the click of death, only 6 months outside the warranty. I have replaced the hard disk. Fortunately all his documents and photos have been copied to an external drive, but unfortunately he has no system image or restore disk or Windows 8 intallation disk.
Is there anywhere on the net where I can get an ISO image to burn a Windows 8 insallation disk or can HP supply a restore disk preferably to restore the laptop back to factory settings.
I just bought the Probook 4710s 5 days ago, and some times when I try to start the computer, it just wrights on the screen Non system disk or disk error, please replace and press any key... I don't have any CD or DVD in CD/DVD unit or any USB keys... when I try to scan the hard disk it reports to me No hard disk found. Every now and than it starts Windows normaly, but it keeps repeating frequently the same boot problem and not beeing able to start my comp.
Does it mean that the hard disk is bad or broken, or it will be soon...or what? Should I return the laptop and ask for replacement?
i have a hp 620 notebook, and it is given me an error message "non-system disk or disk error" after i turned it on. it had worked find in the morning and now it is displaying this error message and i cannot log into my notebook. i tried to recover it with hp recovery but it said "data is not valid.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm seeing the following:
600 MB Healthy (Recovery Partition)
300 MB Healthy (EFI System Partition)
449 GB Healthy (Boot, Page etc...)
15.5 GB Healthy (Recovery Partition)
Given I'm supposed to be running OEM Windows 8.1 shouldn't 1 of the first 2 partitions say OEM?
If that is so I know what I've done and it will probably require a recovery disk to set things straight (i.e. recover the original Acer version of Windows 8.1). This is a follow-on from a previous post where I foolishly installed an evaluation copy of Windows 10 instead of running it using virtual software (which is what I usually do with these things) - I can't remember for sure but it's likely I installed it by formatting the whole disk and probably wiping the OEM partition.
I do have a system image taken a few days before I installed W10 but suspect the OEM wasn't included...which is what is displayed above after I reloaded it.
I was trying to install windows 7 when i got the "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GTP disks etc" Error.
I know i needed to disable something in bios but this laptop's bios isn't very detailed , i tried disabling the Legacy boot and now the laptop doesn't boot up anymore, not even in bios. When i power it on all i get is a black screen and the Caps lock blinks twice.
I tried pressing the windows key+B+ power button for one second while the laptop is shut down but it didn't do anything.
I am so tired of receiving Low Disk Space on recovery (D). I have done everything it asked. Empty Recycle Bin which is EMPTY. I am not a computer wizard but it seems unfair that I have pay over $150.00 year to correct this problem once a year. I have checked a lot of places and it just keeps telling me the same thing. That doesn't work.
I did just install a HP wireless printer 3052A
HP Pavilion dv6000
Windows Vista (home version)
I have the 1640 with the BD-RE at newest firmware, but I can't get the Lost University to load off of the disk with PowerDVD, I was able to pull it up with Total Media Theatre but it won't play the sound from the videos.
