Apr 6, 2009Just got my new HP Pavillion dv5-1000 laptop and I'm very pleased with it so far, apart from one problem.
The machine came without any backup disks, which seems to be a standard HP thing. So I've tried to create my own disk using the Recovery Manager software. It goes through the first part of the process collecting files, but when it reaches 100% I get an error message saying that the files are more than 0mb and it can't continue.
I've tried using a different blank DVD but get the same message.
It's a pain, and is spoiling my enjoyment of an otherwise excellent machine. If anyone can suggest a way around this I'd be grateful.
I've tried this fix:unable to burn Recovery DVD but the software doesn't install.

I am currently unable to create a Factory Default Recovery Disc. There is an error with the Onekey Recovery software in burning onto the DVD / Disc. I have tried two different DVDs (4.7GB), and have tried a CD (740MB). And I receive the same error about one fifth of the way through.
The reason I am having to do a factory reset, is because my Wirless Network driver is not working, and the laptop no longer accepts external wireless USB dongles. I can't get internet even with a wired connection. It isn't to do with whether the wireless is switched on or not. I've tried this.
What is Lenovos policy about providing customers with the means to restore their Laptops? In the past computer manufacturers / suppliers provided all the software and bootdiscs.

Sep 4, 2013I recently got an E135 that came with Windows 8 preloaded. I really didnt like the new interface so I installed Windows 7 on it. Unfortunatly I forgot to create a recovery stick using this method. Now I'd like to reset it back to Windows 8 but I have no means of forcing the computer to acces the recovery partition.
Method's I've tried: F11 during startup gives me the option to recover Windows 7 from a USB stick. Which is weird because the original OS was Windows 8Rescue and Recovery and OneKey both give me the option to back-up but not to restore from the hidden partition.
Info: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E135 335972G..Disk Managment shows one HDD divided into: 2x recovery partition, 1x EFI system partition and normal parition.

However, in the "Create a recovery media" wizard, I don't have the option of selecting DVDs if tick the option "Copy the recovery partition to the media". I have a bunch of DVDs lying around and I would like to use them. Not to mention that I don't intend to buy USB drive just for this purpose.

Would like to wipe the dirve and start over, but need a VISTA recovery disk for the machine. The D: partition where the backup files from HP resides was removed from the drive so Recovery manager is not an option. Checked the HP support site and there are not recovery disks available for HP for this model laptop with VISTA, at least when I entered all the information on the site it did not list anything.
Is there anything that can be done by copying the correct files from the WINDOWS directory on the C drive.

Jun 8, 2014I have a brand new T440 which I am populating and customising.I created a new partition on the HDD using MiniTool Partition Wizzard. That may have created the problem - I can't create the recovery media. I get a message that the files are not there. I should have done it before partitioning - too late now.
However, using the Partition Wizzard, I can assign a drive letter to the Recovery partition, and it becomes visible in Windows Explorer (File manager). I can copy the content on an external HD drive.

I want to upgrade my hardware by replacing my current hard disk with an Solid State Disk. The problem is that in windows 8 there is not any program except the OneKey Recovery which obviously it isn't a Microsoft's official recovery application (such as the one in Windows 7). If I create a disk with OneKey then is there any way to use it to install windows 8 on the new SSD disk? How the pc is gonna recognize a backup disk created by an application which is not installed on it?

I am not a computer wizard but it seems unfair that I have pay over $150.00 year to correct this problem once a year. I have checked a lot of places and it just keeps telling me the same thing. That doesn't work.

Sep 10, 2012I just accepted the delivery of my 5 brand new notebooks for my company's new workers.
3 of those notebooks are HP Probook 450 G2's (PN: J4R69EA)
(These are the models with the 128GB SSD drives)
The other two are Lenovo E540’s with similar specs.
So first things first, create recovery media. So that is done before I hand them to the end users in question. While trying to create the windows disc, the "HP Recovery Disc Creator" program demands Dual layer DVD's: "Please insert a Dual-Layer DVD to proceed" The DVD's in question I’m using are "Sony DVD+R 120min/4.7GB" discs that in the past have always worked. (and at this moment are working for the Lenovo portables)

(in this case it is Drive F: for internal drive) I also tried an external DVD writer with the same results.
I have not tried a USB stick, but this is not what I want and since you can only create one set of backups…

This would not be that big of a problem if there was an actual windows 7 key printed on the portable. If I had a key, I would just reinstall the machine straight away with a clean windows 7 image so I dont have to clean out all the HP software. but unfortunatly this is not the case. so i need a Windows 7 Recovery disc to be created.

Dec 13, 2014I've just replaced HDD by SSD and tried to make a recovery USB media by means of 8.1 recovery utility. The process takes suspiciously short time, but finishes normally reporting that media is created. The size of all files on the flash is about 200 MB. When I did the same media with HDD the size was 12GB. I tried to boot with that flash and it failed with a message about corrupted media or the like. I always believed that windows does not take into account the physical structure of the drive and cannot understand what's going on and what to do.

Jan 8, 2015I recently got this laptop and wanted to upgrade to Windows 8.1 immediatly since it came with Windows 7. This was of course and option with the disc set that came with the laptop. Unfortunately i have encountered problems in the installation/recovery of Windows 8.1.
When the laptop is finished using the actual disc's (i say finished because it spits out disc 4 which is the last one) and is booting into the OS to do the last installing it "freezes" in the middle of "dowork.cmd". In the cmd window it tries to access a destination directory which it can't. Instead of writing it here, i'm just gonna link a picture of it:
I just don't understand why simple recovery discs would cause a failure... Googling the problem has only lead to this: URL....

I think I want to reinstall my computer but the problem now all the recovery set that Lenovo supplies to me is Windows 8 Pro not the Windows 7 Pro. So, if I'm using the One Key button, are they going to restore my computer to Windows 7 Pro or to Windows 8 Pro?

I removed its harddrive (Western Digital, 1 TB) from my laptop to connectit to my desktop with 2 harddrives (one for system (Windows 7, 64 bit); the otherfor data (2 TB)), but never started the installed system to prevent the systemfrom writing some system information into the Inspiron disk.Instead I inserted a Windows PE CD embedded with Acronis True Image 2013.I chose "Disk Backup". The Inspiron harddrive had 6 partitions.The destination drive (where the image created was to be saved) was the 2-TB data disk.Clicked "Finish" and writing Partition 1...done, 2...ok, .... 6 ok and"Backup Process Failed!" at the final stage.
The final stage seems to be a partition layout.BTW the Acronis backup system has an option "Ignore Errors" (force complete).I gave it a try too, but the image created was incomplete with only 4 partitions.Macrium Rescue Disk is a similar one but with no ignore error option.I also tried this and failed at the final stage. No image created.The error message was "Unable to read from disk".Both the Inspiron disk and the destination drive happened to be Western Digital ones.I tried Western Digital Lifeguard checker on each and found no bad sectors.

Jan 8, 2015I have an HP ENVY dv7 Notebook. When the computer was new I tried to make a recovery disc set. When finished I would check the discs ( DVD - R ) I would get a message saying the discs did not write correctly. Tried discs from three different packs, still the same. Called HP Support and they went through the procedure with me, still the same fail. I was told me not to worry if I ever had to have the discs because of a crash they would send them to me for free as they have a record. Now I will be using this computer mainly on the internet and think I should have the discs just in case. Called HP and was told no record, no free discs and it will cost a lot to make the discs. Is there any way to make discs or put the info on a hard drive? I do not know if the computer thinks I made a copy or not since the copies I thought I was making were defective.

Aug 27, 2014I reinstalled windows 7 home premium on my machine, using the same serial number as the one that came with the laptop (I found the serial number by downloading some software that scanned my computer and told me what it was).After installing windows, it told me that it was not genuine. I imagine that it is because it wasn't a version of Windows that has all that HP software pre-loaded on it. My hard drive still has a "recovery" partition, but what to do with that, or even if I can do anything with it anymore. So how can I make my Windows 7 home premium genuine? Do I have to reinstall another version of windows 7 home premium with the HP software included? Where do I find such download? Since I don't have a recovery disk, can I use that "recovery" partition of my hard drive for something?

Nov 11, 2012I have an interesting problem on my computer where it will boot, then crash, then boot properly. I'm not sure what is causing this (i turned on legacy for a while but reset back to defaults). I tried doing a windows reset already and this didn't work but I figure a complete factory reset should do the trick. I have burned recovery disks but cannot figure out how to use them. In the windows 8 advanced restart, I have tried the option to boot of usb as my dvd drive is external and it doesn't work. How to boot using the recovery disk? (the model is an envy 4)...
I managed to boot off them by turning off secure boot and changing the boot order to boot off usb optical drive in the bios menu....
