Dell :: M1330 Suddenly The Battery Drops
Mar 21, 2009
I own a Dell M1330 with the six cell battery.
Since one month something weird happens with the battery.
Power Saver Mode:
after ~1hour (battery is at 60-70%) suddenly the battery drops to 7% and I am out of juice.
Maximum Performance
after ~40minutes suddenly the battery drops to 7% or it goes directly into hibernate mode

About two weeks ago I noticed my Dell M1330 fan was constantly running on the slow speed. Whatever I did, it just wouldn't shut up. Especially when I was running a graphically demanding game, the fan would go nuts, running at maximum power.
I followed a tutorial to clean the dust out of the fan but it didn't fix anything. Today, I got frustrated with it, followed a tutorial to undervolt my CPU, downgraded my nVidia drivers to 167.45 (which apparently lowers GPU temp) and installed I8Kfan to try and fix it.
With I8Kfan, it is kind of like it used to be. I've had the computer for a year and six months and before this it was running almost completely silently unless I was watching a long movie/using heaps of tabs in a web browser/etc. Now, if I don't have I8Kfan set to kick the fans in at 60c they go all the time.
I even tried downgrading my BIOS to A14 because I read here that it could help. Still, no dice.

Has anyone had issues with their DV5 with a Nvidia 9600mGT ? and FPS issues? I am playing DoDS, and for the last while (since I had my DV5 repaired by HP) My FPS in games always drops then comes back up and then drops again. I have installed many drivers with a clean driver install. (Used driver sweeper) I have even went as far as completing a whole system recovery again, to still run into these issues. It has become so bad, It ruins all gaming for me. Also, I think i have notice big CPU spikes, which might be causing issues... the specs are in my sig,.

A few days ago, the battery of my Dell Studio 1737 suddenly stopped charging. When I have the laptop on net power, the power icon now displays '8% available (plugged in, not charging).
Is this a case of a dead battery, or is something else broken on my laptop? If it's the battery, which one do I need to order? I can only find a 'Dell 85 WHr 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery for Dell Studio 1745/ 1747/ 1749 Laptops' but according to the system configuration I have a 6-cell 56W/Hr Lithium-Ion battery installed. Can I just switch to the 9-cell battery?

My D620 suddenly stopped working with an AC adaptor, won't charge the battery, won't operate without the battery. I have several AC adaptors and none of them work now. However, when docked the ac works fine and the battery charges with no issue.

This one looks bigger than the original m1330 battery, so I was wondering if it will fit.
I`ve also heard about Mugen Power
who makes a lot of batteries for electronic devices, anybody got any input on that?

Has anyone bought this battery from any aftermarket battery vendor? My XPS M1130 56Whr Lithium Ion 6-cell battery died two days ago. It's $149 + tax + shipping = $169 at Dell. I wanted to see if there are good deals out there from other vendors.

About a week ago, I had my motherboard replaced due to overheating.
Yesterday, before I had a chance to shut it down properly, I removed the AC power from the laptop and the laptop immediately powered off. I tried again, and the same thing happened.
I called Dell and asked for a warranty replacement and after determining that the battery had indeed failed, the XPS tech support rep told me that the battery is only covered for one year as it's a consumable and they offer a separate battery warranty, so she could not replace it.
So I explained to her that they did not offer that option when I purchased my system (as far as I recall) and I understand the cells wear out and don't hold a charge as they do when they are new, but, regardless, for the battery to completely fail is a defect and should be covered for the length of the system's limited warranty .....

I did a search on here and and google and I came to the conclusion that if you dont know the specs of the computer you can't "accurately" guess the life of the battery so I'm hoping you guys can give me an estimate with my computer specs.
I'll post the things I think would matter most with the battery life.
Specs: Dell XPS M1330
2.2 ghz core2duo
8400gs
LED screen
wireless-n
160 gb hdd (dont know speed, im sure you guys do with this size)

I bought a Dell XPS M1330 over a year ago and it came preloaded with Vista Home Premium.
Since I want to keep the batteries in good condition I run the laptop with no battery connected and AC plugged in whenever it sits on my desk at home.
However, in Windows 7 it seems that Windows wants to put the laptop to sleep after 10-15 minutes if I do this

I woul like to know how much i can get with the 9 cell battery, LED display, ssd and 8400.
I am looking at a 13.3-14.1 with long battery life. Any other suggestions? I like the illuminated keyboard on the studio 1340, but it's heavier and i hate that leather part, plus the airflow problems.
Lenovo u330 is nice, but have some battery problems as i saw.

It's only since I started reading these forums to try and fix my fans being on all the time that I realised my XPS's battery life was way worse than most people's on here.
I have a six cell battery and out of a full charge I get maybe 1:35. this wouldn't be so bad except, when my warranty ran out 3 months ago, I made dell replace my current six cell battery which got around 1:17 full charge.
This current battery is only 3 months old, initially it did an two hours and a half but now i'm lucky to get an hour and a half out of it.
why my computer is eating my batteries? Other people talk about battery life of 3 hours plus

I got my m1330 used with 1 light of battery health lit. I've been using it fairly for a month. One time I noticed I got only about 1 hour on battery power.
I don't know... i'm having serious problems with this notebook. It was very slow because got really hot until I upgraded it to A15 where it somehow works... What should be done for me to request a replacement?....

Our M1330's 6-cell battery warned recently that it needed replacing soon (was at something like 67% original capacity).
I turned off the warnings and hoped it would last sometime longer but now the system thinks no battery is connected and the battery's self-test LEDs do not illuminate at all.
I am not sure how easily I can get a new battery shipped to Africa and we have frequent power cuts (the system is on a surge protector which drops the power when it goes out. Usually a generator cuts in within 10 seconds to restore power but the surge protector refuses to provide power for about 5 mins).
So I need to change from using Standby to using Hibernate. Trouble is little disk space and no hibernate file left.

I bought my laptop Dell XPS M1330 in September 2009... I have not had problems with this until now. Three days ago I turned on my laptop in order to read a pdf file , but I noticed the my file went constantly down and therefore, I was not able to read it... It seemed like the "arrow pointed down key" was permanently pushed down! So I reboot my lap but I had the same problem. The next day, again, I turned on my lap and at that time the cursor was moving constantly to the left like the "arrow pointed left key" was pushed down!
I tried with Dell diagnostics and this showed me the next errors:
-ERROR CODE 3600:0853 PRIMARY_BATTERY_BAY The battery can not provide sufficient power.
-ERROR CODE 2C00:0423 KEYBOARD-Stuck key detected
When I was testing the keys (of the keyboard) this showed me:
Expected: e048 Read: e050....Expected: (something) Read e050.... And so on
Should I have to replace my battery and my keyboard???

I recently started to have really bad FPS drops.
Whenever i play any type of games, Frame rates drops by half if not more every few second to minutes constantly.
I thought it might've been a bad driver install but even tho I reinstalled 10.3 preview it still had the same problem. I also reverted back to an older driver but still had the same problem

Spent a few days playing with my new studio 1555, I am finding heavy drops in FPS whilst gaming. I have spent all today trying to find the cause.
As an example, if I am playing DOW2, I get approx 30fps, every 2mins or so it will drop to 15fps.
I am expecting it to be heat related but:
1. I cannot monitor the GPU temps
2. There is no program I can find that recognises the GPUs speed to check if it is down clocking
3. It only lasts about 2 secs then I shoot back up to 30fps.
I have tried vista 32 and vista 64.
I have monitored temps with HWMonitor and all but an ACPI are fine, the ACPI temp gets upto 93c as other users reported
I have tried turning off my wifi and playing offline in case it was network related
I have checked all drivers and updated where necessary
I am now at a loss.

So I recently bought a Dell XPS 15 9530 and well I wanted to see how it would do in gaming. It was doing well in most games until one day, I started getting fps drops that lasted a long time. The FPS would go from whatever it started with, an example being Watch Dogs with 50 fps on low settings, to 9 fps. Another example is CS:GO where I get 60 fps on highest settings, I cap it at 60, but after a few rounds it goes down to 15 fps. So I got NVIDIA Inspector to see what was wrong as many had said it was the GPU throttling and the clocks were 135 MHz for the GPU Clock and 405 MHz for the Memory Clock instead of the default 941 MHz for GPU and 2500 MHz for Memory. The temperature was around 75 degrees celsius at most so I don't think that is the problem. It is plugged into wall while playing and I have most programs closed down when playing.
Also, I have my power plan set to 'High Performance'. The FPS drop does not last forever but lasts about 10-15 minutes and can either be resolved by restarting my laptop or, if I am lucky, restarting the game. It is quite annoying and I have been testing everything for about 2 weeks. I have tried re-installing BIOS, clean installation of drivers, used different programs like ThrottleStop, tried lowering the settings and none of these have worked.

I have a M1730 with 8700gt sli GPU's. My problem is that, if i turn on the notebook and start playing a newish game,
it will run great for 20 mins or so, then its performance will drop dramatically, to the point of not being able to play due to framerate drop.
My instincts tell me that it is a heat problem, beacuse if i turn it off and leave it for a bit, i can turn it back on and play fine again.

I have a Studio XPS 1640 (3670 512mb, P8600, etc.) that I mostly use for gaming. During the past few months, I've noticed that occasionally when I'm playing a game, the FPS will suddenly go wayyy down. For example, I was once playing Oblivion and getting around 40 FPS, when all of a sudden the FPS randomly dropped to less than 10. The same thing has happened in other games such as TF2. I think that this may be due to overheating, because the computer still seems sort of sluggish even after I close the game. Anyone know what I should do? Maybe adjust the fan speed/get a cooling pad?

I just purchased a Dell XPS 17. The problem while playing video game is, that randomly the sound starts crackling for 1 or 2 seconds and the screen freezes with it, or the FPS drops down to 5 or lower.
I thought it might be problems with the fan on the laptop, or the AC adapter doesn't give energy for the laptop so it chokes down? It mostly happens, when the laptop gets pretty hot.
Also I tried to contact the Dell customer service, but it says i purchased the Laptop in the United Kingdom, which I didn't. I used the Dell Customer service from the U.S. and used the chat without any problems. When i try to E-mail them, it gives me an error, that it cannot read my system components (I don't remember exactly what it said, might be something else, but it was an error).
