Dell :: My Enter Key Came Off
Feb 1, 2009
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400. My Enter key came off and I can't put it back on. I think I lost one of the white plastic pieces because I purposefully removed my Caps Lock to compare. Observe:
The first is a photo of my Caps Lock: you can see two plastic pieces.
The second is my Enter and I only have one plastic piece.
Can someone confirm that I should have two plastic pieces on the Enter as well? If so, can I order this somewhere?

I have the problem that my normal enter acts as numpad enter.
This is a big problem in games I play like Starwars Galaxies and Just Cause 2 as they don't react to the key being pressed and in SWG I cant chat or use key commands.
In Just Cause 2 I cant get past the menu and into the game.
I tried flashing my bios with the newest bios available and I also tried remapping using a program called KeyTweak (where it also told me I was pressing numpad enter when I used the normal enter) but neither solved the problem.

I have recently been completely unable to access the set-up area of my bios on my Dell XPS 17 L702x laptop. On booting, i keep pressing the F2 key which seems to be registered by the BIOS as the text that says 'Set-Up' lights up. However, instead of entering the setup, the BIOS simply continues booting my operating system. Even if I remove all of the hard drive's, I cannot enter the set up and the BIOS boots to the PXE Setup.
I have tried reflashing the BIOS but nothing changes, the set-up is still inaccessible. I can't even change the boot order using the F12 key.
I really need access to my BIOS and I am all out of options.

I was replacing my harddisk for a bigger one. after some trail and error with the AHCI driver for Windows 7 installation, suddenly the notebook freezes before I can enter the bios or it even can boot.
Now it is stuck at the DELL logo with text of latitude e6320 series, bios revision A06. With the blue line
I already tried to remove battery and power, but no solution yet.

after switching the boot settings from uefi to legacy, I can't enter my bios anymore.
Neither with F2 nor F12.
He shows me that "Operating System can't be found".
Did the switching for testing another OS.
Is there any trick to enter the bios to switch again to uefi mode?

Recently I purchased a Dell Latitude D830 motherboard as a replacement for the damaged one in my own system.
The seller didn't tell me that the system has a customized bios and a password, instead he announced it as 'password free'. The board is working and I can enter the BIOS but all settings are locked with a password.
As the seller refuses to take it back, I need to reset the system. The first owner of the board is known and I have the service tag ready. Is there any chance to reflash an original DELL BIOS and to reset the password(s)?

Where can I find 24co2 chip on system board of the dell inspiron 700m? Somehow the BIOS has been blocekd . When I run the laptop I can see a white inscription "Enter Password" on the blue background. After typing wrong passwords three times I can see an inscription "Please enter master password". I've tried to generate a master password but without success.
Generated password was: hw4lha04

I just bought an Edge 130 and wanted to set it up today. But I just can't enter the BIOS! I keep pressing F1 during the Lenovo splash screen. I've pressed it repeatedly, held it down, I even tried it with the Fn button pressed. Nothing worked.
I've have been working with and professionally supporting Lenovo (and before IBM) notebooks for over 10 years and not once did I have such a problem. This is only the second E-series notebook I have ever had. I bought myself an E525 last summer and had no such problems and at work we have T-, X- and W-series.

Recently purchased the new i7 XPS 13 model (L322X). It's a lovely machine, but I have two problems with it.
Firstly, I can no longer enter the pre-boot setup screens. It did work originally, but now it simply doesn't load. I can still switch between different boot modes (Legacy BIOS mode, UEFI+SecureBoot, UEFI+No-SecureBoot) but I cannot actually get into the setup screens any longer.
If I switch to Legacy BIOS mode, then I do get text on the screen (bottom right) suggesting I can press F2. If I hit the key, the text changes colour slightly to suggest the keypress has been recognised, but then just proceeds to try and boot the machine (which fails as expected as there is no legacy bootloader).
Is there some kind of EFI variable that affects this - perhaps locking me out? I can still use the machine fine, but this is obviously disconcerting.
The second problem is manifested when I enter the Diagnostics utility in the EFI bootloader.
It reports all is well, except the Graphics:
It states:
Error Code: 2000-0332
Validation: 80763
Msg: Video memory - Video memory integrity test discrepancy
Please record the above Error and Validation codes
Further details are:
Vendor Name: uEFI

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3521 which, until recently, was working fine.
This morning I, after a rebooted, I got an error message informing me that the battery would not charge and to press f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup. I continued and booted into Windows fine but noticed it wasn't charging, I rebooted to see if the error message would go away. It didn't.
I booted into the BIOS, loaded the "optimized defaults" and rebooted only to be greeted by the same error message.
There were quite a few posts with similar issues, so I tried a couple of the solutions to see if any of them would work(updating the BIOS to A12, rebooting with the battery removed and then replacing it, deleting the two driver under batteries in device manager, etc.), but none of them resulted in the battery charging though the error message went away.
After playing around with it for a while, I noticed the following behavior.
1. Initially, in the BIOS, it said something like "Your battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" . After removal/reboot/re-adding, it reports it as healthy.
2. The AC adapter is reported as unknown when the battery is plugged in. If I remove the battery, it is reported as 65W. Adding the battery results in it reporting as "unknown" again.
3. If I am in Windows with the battery plugged in and not charging(as reported by windows) and I remove the AC adapter from the socket in the wall and plug it in again, the green light on the power brick glows for 5 or so seconds and the icon in the system tray shows charging. Unfortunately, it then turns off a few seconds later and the icon shows it running only on battery power.
I've seen quite a few of these posts, so I'm not expecting a definitive answer. As of right now, I'm running with just the AC adapter plugged in and the battery removed. It works "fine" this way.
NOTE: This seemed to coincide with a run of windows update. Prior to that, it was working correctly running on a fresh install of Windows 8.1 . Either that, or it was just a coincidence.

Sending my brand new ENVY back for service (on its first day...boo) but baffled as to what might cause this.
Everything works fine on the system except for a handful of keyboard keys:
Space
Enter
Backspace
Up/down arrows (left and right are fine)
Possibly alt (tough to test without the others)
Space bar will send a combination of characters, like zzc^X^Z if you press it a few times (often one press will send all of those characters, while other presses send nothing).
