View 3 RepliesA year ago (November 2007) there was a thread titled Possible to remove key from keyboard? which is now closed. I have a similar question and one of the mods may want to merge the two threads and open the combined one until the topic is thoroughly discussed.
In any case, here is my issue. My wife has an XPS that is only about four months old.
Suddenly the left mouse button is stuck partially pressed down. If this were a keyboard key I would just pop it off and clean underneath it. But, I don't know if you can remove the mouse buttons that way or not. Does anybody have any suggestion? And before someone helpfully offers returning it to Dell for warranty work - do you want to do without your computer for a month? She doesn't either, so that's a non-starter.
has anyone else had issues with their keyboards, namely their spacebar making an annoying squeaking noise every time you push it?
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe left mouse button on my m1530 has taken a battering. It has gone all lop-sided, crunches every time I press it, and now doesn't work at all unless I press down on it very very hard with two fingers.
I work fast, so this is an incredibly frustrating thing to happen, as everything now takes ten times longer to do.
I have a collapsed left mouse button on my m1530 touchpad. The button still works but does not return to its original position so it is most likely the return spring (or whatever it is) that is broken.
The laptop is out of warranty so I'm looking for a way to fix this myself. I've tried searching for this part but with no success,
and I can't find any pictures of this part to tell whether I can use some other substitute.
My computer does not have button to left button of the mouse, so I use 2 fingers to get use the funtions of the letf button. However, this is not working anymore.
My notbook is HP ENVY 15-j054ca Notebook PC.
The left mouse button on my laptop (model 15-d037dx) doesn't click when I press it. The laptop is almost brand new, can I get a replacement button?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Chromebook 14. Two issues, one the mouse arrow has disappeared while using the touch pad. The cursor (arrow) reappears when I plug in a wireless mouse. Second I have seen where it says to hit the Esc+Refresh+Power and this might regain the mouse cursor. Where or what the "Refresh Button is".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've run my Lenovo laptops (on a T510 now) for years using the middle button (the "scroll" button) as a plain old middle mouse button. The ultranav tool has always had an option to make it act like a MMB, with no fancy scroll function, etc.
I just bought a new W540, and found, much to my distress, that such an option doesn't seem to exist on the W540! This is very important to me as I run Cygwin X server and rely on the middle mouse button to to paste in Xterms and other X apps. This is a real showstopper for me!
I noticed a "three finger tap" function that's supposed to act as a MMB. But it doesn't seem to work in Cygwin X. Plus, it's not the best solution.
Is there any way to do this with the new Ultranav drivers?
I wish to disable the touch pad on my Inspiron 1545 with Windows 8.. I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Currently both the mouse and the touch pad operate the curser. I want to only use the mouse. In Windows 7 the default was mouse only as soon as the wireless interface was installed. This is not the case with Windows 8.
I've been told to go to the Device driver and select the touch pad under Mouse and other pointers. The touch pad is not listed. I've tried disabling the PC Mouse compatible but the disable button is inactive.
on an L530, when i click and hold the left mouse button on the trackpoint while performing a "sweep" operation -- ie dragging out a rectangular area on the display -- the button doesn't stay held; it prematurely unclicks / releases before i lift my finger off the button.
i had this problem with the original keyboard. i called support, they quickly shipped a replacement keyboard, and almost as quickly the problem reoccurred.
this is annoying, because i frequently perform mouse sweeps (almost exclusively in conjunction with "snipping tool" on win7). invariably, i need to retry the sweep 2,3,4,5,6.... times before i'm successful at getting what i want. and i'm pressing down on the button with significantly more force than should be required.
this isn't a problem that develops over time; it's there from the get-go.
i've phoned in to support again, and they're shipping me a 3rd keyboard. sounds like a design flaw, since the same problem's shown up on 2 keyboards. (progress has been made, however; on the original keyboard, F10 wasn't working reliably either; on the now-in-use 2nd keyboard, F10 works fine.) hope i'm wrong about the chronic failure, and 3rd time's a charm...
I just came back from Best Buy and saw the new Dell Studio 15z (1569) with the Intel Core i5! It's less than 1" thick! Slot load DVD, HDMI, displayport, 3 USB, SD Reader, and matte lid! This one was brown. The best part is the battery! It is no longer in the back like the current dell studio 15/17. It is now flat and thin like the HP Envy's!! It's now underneath the laptop!
Sorry I couldn't take pictures but they just put it out and had a HAND WRITTEN price tag with info! It has the Intel Core i5 420 I think. You really have to see how THIN and SMALL the laptop is! I hope they make a 14"!
Is there a way to quickly turn on and off the touchpad. I want to leave the mouse dongle in and be able to use the touchpad.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wife got this HP G60-120us notebook computer. It's about two years old now. I'm planning on getting her a new laptop so I can get this one. The only thing that I really do not like about this laptop is the freakin mouse button. It's so loud and clicks so loud as well. What I'm using now is my old Dell laptop and I love the mouse button so quiet and smooth unlike the HP. Is there anyway to make this sound quiet? Like open it up and spray some WD-40? J/K, is all HP's like this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my dell laptop Studio 1569, i turn on my laptop and after 5 min it shutting down itself Suddenly.
when i try to turn it on again he make this voice when like check the normal voice that's mean its starting working, but after 3-5 second he get off again.
What I found quite interesting in the cnet review is that their performance testing of the Dell 1569 was second place just behind the Toshiba E205-S1904 (the other Best Buy Blue Label). I do not understand why, the specs are basically the exact same specs, EXCEPT our Dell has a 500gb 7,200rpm hard drive while the Toshiba has a 500gb 5,400 rpm hard drive. I would think, if anything our performance would be slightly better than the Toshiba because of our 7,200rpm hard drive. All the other specs are the same.
So, with that being said, why did the Toshiba have slightly better performance numbers than ours, since as I keep stating all the specs are the same except we have a faster hard drive?
i have a ACER Travelmate 2482WXMi, i have done a fresh install of windows XP home, i have done a full format of the hard drive, but i have issues the touchpad will not work only in safe mode. I have installed most of the drivers through safe mode, but the mouse will only work when i connect an external mouse when it's in normal mode.
Also i do get some bad sectors on the hard drive, and it takes over 2mins to shut down the comp. I havent installed programs yet, except PC Wizard 2008. Also the laptop is not the base model with 512MB ram i have added a 1gb stick and it works fine. I am thinking maybe its the hard drive. If
Ok after 3 days of using the 1340 I just realized the button on the top panel that you can use to increase/decrease volume stopped working. I had updated the latest drivers from Dell site but not sure if that is the reason.
Also non of the other buttons that are for DVD work either. And I know they were working when I got the laptop and only thing I have done is update with latest drivers.
I have an S series and when I press the silver VAIO button it mutes the sound.
I haven't found where to change the function of this button.
I've only removed the following Sony apps:
media gallery
pmb 5 and pmb plugins (click2disk/image optimizer/movie story)
vaio content metadata intelligent analyzing manager
vaio transfer support
Unfortunately I can't remember the default function of this button. Perhaps it was the media gallery? I'd like to change it anyhow.
I would like to buy a wireless bluetooth mouse and I was thinking
if this mouse will work with bluetooth installed in M1530 {bluetooth 355 +EDR} and therefore I will have another USB slot free - or it will work only with its own bluetooth..
So I dropped the extra 40 something for the bluetooth capability in my 1640, thinking it would be a fantastic way to save a usb port and add convenience for an external mouse.
Problem is, I've been to several futureshops, bestbuys, and londondrugs and none of them (okay, there was ONE) have bluetooth mice...
Where would a good place to look be, a place I can actually go in and get a feel (even if only through clear plastic) of the mouse (rather than online like NCIX or Newegg).
I have win-XP installed on my DELL Inspiron 1525.
Every time I type i touch the mouse pad by mistake, the cursor jumps to a different location and it irritates..............
What is the best bluetooth mouse for the SXPS 16? I think both the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 and Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 look good but don't know much about them...

i change my resulutions, my foreware,
I just upgraded from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Vista (it was free). The onboard mouse buttons and touchpad work fine in Vista 64. My problem is that I always use an external mouse. When I'm typing and my palm hits the touchpad my cursor moves. In Vista 32 bit I could set the onboard mouse buttons and trackpad to switch off in the Dell touchpad driver whenever an external mouse is plugged in. There is no 64 bit Vista driver to download from Dell. How do I turn this touchpad off?

The website doesn't list the Studio 15 as compatible with it. The SXPS 16 is there, but I figured bluetooth is bluetooth
Is there any chance the xps 1645 will have a multi-touch mouse pad anytime soon? I find that feature in the macs really cool. Since I'm about to buy a 1645, was just wondering if it was worth waiting sometime

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using either a usb or bluetooth mouse with my new XPS 15z, and i'm getting tired of a problem...
The trackpad is impossible to shut down for good... i mean: indeed you can disable it, turn it off, and even tell it to turn off when usb mouse is plugged, but it never really does, it always, always, always stays on for a second before shutting down...
In other words: my trackpad is disabled, both buttons and touch, and i use a bluetooth mouse. but even it is disabled, if i pass my fingers on it, the cursor moves for 1cm before shutting down... then i wait 2 minutes, and i pass my fingers on it again, and then again the cursor moves 1 cm before stopping moving.
So it is never really shut down, with the consequence i never can type text without my hand touching it and putting the cursor somewhere in the page and i have to put the cursor back to where it was,
For example it happened 5 times when typing this very text....
I have updated the cypress trackpad drivers to last up to date version...
