May 14, 2014I have a dv7-7270ca notebook and since a restart due to windows 8 updates I now have a red x on the speaker icon. I installed the HP driver for this model but it has an error in device manager that says:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)
I did run an audio test using the shut down-F2 and passed and could hear the sounds in the test.
Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T440 With No Audio- Sound Icon In Task Bar Shows That System Is Muted
Oct 27, 2014I have a new T440 running win 7 pro 64bit. The audio is not working.
When I first boot, the sound icon in the task bar shows that the system is muted, but the mute button (f1) is not lit.
-If I press the mute button the light goes on and the indicator on the task bar shows the system is no longer muted.
-If I have sound playing, when I toggle from the light on and the tray indicating not in mute to the ligt off and the tray indicating the system is in mute, I get a split second sound.
I have installed the realtek device drivers
I have installed the lenovo system update and all of the critical and reccomended updates.
The device manager indicates that everything is working properly.
Dell Inspiron 1545 :: Battery Icon No Longer Had Plug Icon On Top Showing It Was Charging
Jan 24, 2013I was using my inspiron 1545 the other night and it was charging the battery, then i heard a pop from the left hand side of the keyboard. At this point i noticed that the battery icon no longer had the plug icon on top showing it was charging. I then looked at my power adapter and noticed the blue light was not on on the brick.
Finding this I unplugged the brick and then plugged it back in..POP from the laptop again....and the blue light on the brick went off again. This happens everytime.
So I am guessing there is something wrong in the laptop and the brick turns off maybe activating its short circuit mode protect. Obviously, this means I can not charge the battery.
If i remove the battery and try to run it on mains adapter it POPs as soon as you plug it in and the laptop won;t boot as it has no power...
Dell :: Lost Data Safe Icon
May 15, 2009you know when you buy a laptop off dell you get pre installed the dell data safe. then all you have to do is click on it and setup an account.
normally there is a subscription for free when you buy your laptop. i lost that icon because of a hard drive wipe.
were do i get that software again? and no dell.com/datasafe dont work. i need the software that you get that will make you an account based on your service tag so it know what to give you for size.
Dell Inspiron 15z :: Mouse Icon Keeps Disappearing?
Apr 13, 2013Windows 8. I recently got an Inspiron 15z touchcreen ultrabook with windows 8.
Often I'll be on the net/playing a game/composing an email/pretty much anything and my mouse will disappear and I can't make it come back. I can still use the touchscreen; but no matter of swiping or clicking the touchpad makes the mouse come back.
Dell :: Bluetooth Icon In Control Panel Missing
Jan 18, 2010This is on an M6400 with Windows 7 64-bit. I installed dell's newest drivers for Windows 7 64-bit, and everything seems to be working fine, but I don't have the Bluetooth item in Control Panel. That becomes an issue if I turn the Bluetooth radio off from the tray icon, because if I do so, the tray icon is gone, and there's no easy way to turn the radio back on.
So, does anybody know how to fix this?
Dell :: Accidentally Disabled The Quickset Tray Icon
Feb 14, 2009I just got my new Studio XPS 16, but accidentally disabled the quickset tray icon. I've checked registry and tried reinstalling quickset, but nothing i do can get it back. Is there any other way to do it without having to reinstall my whole computer? (as i've already installed several other programs, it'll be quite some effort).

Apr 1, 2013I have an inspiron laptop. been working fine now all of a sudden the circle icon keeps flashing in the background it doesn't go out. Ran norton antivirus didn't catch anything. checked register disks everything ok. the computer is working fine except it just keeps flashing off and on again.
I tried rebooting removing battery nothing works. the only msg i received was a box that said wireless configuration OLE initialization failed, make sure that the OLE libraries the correct version. I am running windows home premiun 7.
Dell :: Inspiron 15205 Sound From Intergrated Sound Chip
Oct 1, 2009I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with 8600GT. I wanted to buy a 5.1 speaker set but it would be of no use as 1520 does not have 3 audio jacks while the 1525 and XPS 1530 has 5.1 output.
I was just wondering, if it was possible to somehow get an extra audio jack outside the laptop by checking if a header pin for a third audio jack exists on the motherboard since the audio chip is HD audio and motherboard design would be similar to 1525 and XPS 1530
I lot of people have openend up their systems and taken a look at the audio circuitry to fix the static noise coming from the headphone jacks. Did anyone notice if a third audio jack could be soldered to the motherboard to get 5.1 audio.

Dell :: New Studio 1737 Screen Resolution And Icon/font Size
Mar 3, 2009had a Dell 1735..screen resolution was perfect and webpages i visited looked nice and sharp etc...purchased a new Dell studio 1737 laptop and it seems that the default setting is 1920 x 1200..this makes everything very sharp but to small to work with...the correct setting for the correct size etc...seems to be 1440 x 900..but when i change the settings to this size everything is the correct size but not as sharp...and websites i visit such as Facebook etc..the text on these pages seems different..now, when I place my old Dell studio 1735 beside my new Dell studio 1737 my old laptop which is set at 1440 x 900..my old laptop looks far sharper and superior to my new laptop! My old 1735 has the highest setting for resolution at 1440 x 900 while the new 1737 seems to have a higher setting option of 1920 x 1200. Is there a big difference between the 1735 and 1737? Am I stuck with just keeping my setting on my new 1737 at 1440 x 900 and putting up with the blurriness etc? Have tried everything from going into Catalyst center to adjusting settings in appearance in vista etc..

Nov 23, 2008I've noticed that my battery meter/AC power icon has disappeared from my system tray. I'm not sure how to make it reappear. I'm not even sure how it suddenly disappeared in the first place. The reason why I want this icon to always be there is so that I can tell how much battery power I have left on my laptop. Also, when I am charging my laptop battery and letting my laptop run on AC power, the battery icon turns into the AC power icon.How do I get it to reappear? Is the icon part of the Dell Quickset program/software? I'm not sure. I have an Inspiron 1520.

Feb 17, 2014When one turns off the Bluetooth adapter from the tray icon, the tray icon disappears. In order to turn the BT adapter back on, it appears one must go to the Device Manager to re-enable the BT adapter. This is inconvenient and not awfully intuitive for a usual business end-user. In the past the BT icon in the tray would remain, but turn color to indicate it's off. And the end user could right-click it and turn it back on when needed.
Currently it appears, turning off the BT adapter, actually disables it and it "disappears". Is there a way to simply turn the adapter off and more importantly back on without having users get into the device manager from their standard user accounts?
E7240 with Dell 1601 WiFi/BT adapter in use on Win7/64 Ult.
Dell Inspiron 5537 :: Battery Icon Says Plugged In But Stopped Charging After Upgrade To 8.1 Pro
Oct 30, 2014Purchased an upgrade for my Windows license from 8.1 to 8.1 Pro on Sunday in the US (I had done the update to 8.1 from Win 8.0 months ago without issue). Since that time, my Inspiron 15R (5537, Mid 2013, non-touch screen) has stopped charging...although the battery icon says 'plugged in, charging'. I am using the OEM charger and battery initially purchased with the laptop. Currently in Canada (just in case that makes some crazy software difference...plugs/power is the same I think).
I've taken the following steps:
1. I tried battery diagnostics on Dell site. Said the battery is fine.
2. Ran full diagnostics at boot on startup. Those say in Current/High/Low columns:
Primary Battery Charge: 5% (now actually 4%); Primary Battery Health: 86%; Primary Battery Voltage: 11106 mV/11106mV/11106mv; Primary Battery Current Flow: 0mA/0 mA/ 0 mA; AC adapter: 65 watt adapter/na/na
-On separate page, diagnostics continued:
Primary Battery : Charge Cycles=159; Temperature=26C, Voltage=1106mV; Current=0mA; Remaining Capacity=0.271Ah; FullCapacity=5.184Ah; BatteryHealth=86%; ManufactureDate=6/8/2013; Serial Number=b99
Charger: ChargerState=Installed.
3. Checked and rechecked physical connections, took battery in/out and used alternate plugs (although usual light ring glowing around plug to computer and icon says charging, took it out and replugged into computer, wall, and at the brick, tried various plugs at the hotel and at the office).
4. From Device Manager, uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
5. From Power Options, selected alternate power plans and changed plan settings/restored default settings for the plan.
6. Went to Dell's drivers & downloads. Downloaded suggested updates to Intel drivers and BIOS. Installed Intel drivers.
7. Because power level was under 10%, couldn't install the BIOS update normally. So I downloaded a program to make a bootable USB drive, made the boot USB, transferred the BIOS update to it, restarted the computer, enabled legacy boot settings to get it to boot to the USB, and flashed the bios out of a DOS prompt with the /forceit command.
8. Since none of this worked, reran diagnostics (same results, slightly different voltage than the earlier office test, and diagnostic showed the drain when I momentarily pulled the AC cable out of the computer).
9. Took battery out entirely and restarted computer. Went back to Device Manager, uninstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter, shut down computer, pulled out adapter. Reinstalled battery, replugged AC adapter, restarted computer and both programs reinstalled.
10. Downloaded, installed and ran iOlo system check software and followed recommendations for other fixes although it found no issues with battery.
None of this has worked. I've now got a battery at 4% with the icon still showing 'plugged in, charging'. I don't have an alternate Dell battery and charger to try in the system (hotel doesn't have one, I may try to run to a local electronics store tonight after work to see if I can borrow one). While this could be a hardware issue, with the timing (issue arose after upgrade, no issues previously) and the battery passing its diagnostics I'm guessing software...maybe...
Dell Inspiron 1520 :: Flashing Caps Lock Icon And Blank Screen?
Jan 10, 2009I have a 1 year old inspiron 1520 laptop which has suddenly stopped working.
When I press the power button, the power light comes on but I don't hear a fan whirring, the battery light also comes on. The screen is totally blank and the caps lock icon continually flashes and after about a minute the computer shuts down.
This happens with the battery attached or connected to the mains.

Occasionally I will have the following icon pop up on my screen and refuse to go away: A reverse google image search told me this is the logo for the "thinklight", which as far as I know is not actually equipped on this model. As a side note, I have seen this happen on a friend's E530 as well.

Mar 12, 2010I bought my Acer 3810TG a month ago with Vista pre-installed and recently upgraded to Windows 7. The only problem now is that the brightness icon has disappeared (when I press Fn+left/right arrows), every other icon is working fine though.
Anyway when I looked in the Launch Manager folder, there's a folder called OSDRC with pictures of the icons, where I noticed the brightness icons were missing.
I've tried reinstalling Vista, sent it back to Acer, installing the newest/previous versions of Acer Launch Manager but neither helped.
Is it possible that someone whose brightness icons are working can upload them here or have another solution to get them back?

Jun 2, 2014An unknown icon appears on my desktop named " Thumbs.db ". It appears on my desktop screen as well as in some files and folders. Whenever I delete that icon, it goes for some time but again comes back on the desktop. And sometimes after deleting the file the desktop turns completely blank with purple background and again comes back to normal in few seconds.

Lenovo P500 P/Y/Z Series :: Don't Get Icon In System Tray
May 5, 2014I have a Lenovo Ideapad p500 Touch. I recently upgraded my router to an AC1900 Router, and with it i wanted to update the internal wifi on the Lenovo. I purchased an Intel 7260 AC Dual Band with Bluetooth seen HERE . Install was pretty straight forward, seeing how im a IT Tech. Where I had an issue is with the drivers and getting bluetooth properly set up. The wifi part works without an issue. I can't seem to get bluetooth to work at all. When i go to device manager I see bluetooth but only if I select to view "hidden Devices". Im running Win 8.1 64x, Ive tried installing the drivers from intel, but it never seems to actually install the bluetooth driver. I don't get the icon in the system tray.
