Dell :: Production And Delivery Time For A Studio
Mar 13, 2009So I've recently ordered a Dell Studio 1537 to replace my ancient Inspiron 6000 . I ordered it on the 10th and it's in production right now, but it says that I shouldn't receive it until the 27th! Does it really take that long? I didn't change anything, all I did was change the color. How long did it actually take to receive yours?

my XPS 16 in production (10 Oct est delivery) the cost is close to $1500. with Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600
new system I've configured is $1700 with i720 + blue ray. and a bigger battery.
Is it really worth going through all the pain of return for it?
I will be using lapotop for at least 2-3 years and I will be using it for work and playing Age of Conan for fun.
Dell :: Canceling A Order That Is Already In Production...
Feb 28, 2010I just called Dell Support to cancel my order for a Dell Studio XPS 16 notebook and they said that it could not be canceled because the system is in the final stages of production. Am I not entitled to cancel before they actually ship out the system? The rep said I have to take delivery and then call to request a refund. They have not charged my credit card yet, so could I call my bank and have them deny any forthcoming charges from Dell?

Mar 4, 2009FYI, I just had a hell of a time trying to cancel my order for an XPS M1330. Customer care told me that it couldn't be done, and the manager pretty much called me a liar and hung up when I said it could.
Customer care my . Anyway, I spoke with a nice guy in XPS sales and he told me to call the Cancellation Department at 1-800-247-2076, option 2 to cancel. Called them up and they canceled the order in about 2 minutes.
I just wanted to post this to help other in case they suffer the same treatment when trying to cancel!
Dell :: Studio 1558 (after One Week And Still In Pre-production)

i5-520m
4gb 1066mhz
500gb 7200rpm
ATI 4570
1080p
backlit keyboard.
I'm obviously excited about receiving it, however.... after close to a week... it's still in "pre-production."
I've called a few times. First time I was told "It could take up to 48 hours to get out of pre-production and into in-production."
Fair enough. 48 hours later it was still in pre-production, so I called back and they told me it could be a payment issue. So I called the verification department and they told me everything was 100% good to go.
Anyway, different people telling me different things, finally I landed on some honesty. A representative told me that the problem is that there is a part on back-order and so that is why it hasn't moved into production yet. I'm guessing it's the processor, what do you guys think?
Anyway, the original delivery date was projected as February 4, 2010. The guy on the phone today said that I should expect the order to be moved into production within 48 hours (I'm not so sure I believe this) and that the delivery date will probably move to February 9, 2010.
I have absolutely no problem with this, part not in stock = no problem. My issue is, different reps telling me different stories. If it comes down to waiting till February 9 and I get my laptop then, I am fine with that, but if this drags on farther, I would rather cancel my order and purchase from another company.
What do you guys think? Also, has anybody actually received their 1558 yet? What do you think of it?

Feb 20, 2010I have ordered, almost a month ago, a fully loaded 1645 with an i7, 8GB, 500GB, RGB screen.
I've been reading the threads about this machine and am concerned about it, because it seems to have a lot of problems, like throttling and heat. There also appear to be some problems with the RGB screen that are not yet "announced".
I am seeking to do multimedia production with this machine using Adobe CS4, as well as various audio/video applications.
I might play games from time to time, but my focus is really in production and running virtual machines for things like programming and office programs

Oct 28, 2009I'm looking for a Laptop/Desktop for music recording and editing. I found out that a 15 inch MacBook Pro was going to cost me $3712.44 to ship it to norway with these specs: 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB (2x2GB), 500MB 7200 RPM.
I was okay with $2649 but this got way overpriced (in my opinion).
So I took a look at an iMac 27-inch, specs: 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 8GB (4x2GB), 1TB Serial ATA Drive (doesn't mention RPM), and this for "only" $3345.
If I'm right 2.8GHz Quad-Core is 11.2GHz (or is 2.8GHz the total?) and 3.06GHz Duo Core 7.2 GHz (or 3.06GHz).
So all the specs are better, and the screen is BIG. Seems like something I should go for?

Jan 22, 2009My laptop is an inspiron 1520, about a year old now. Ever since I've had it, the hard disk drive has been making a loud, random click from time to time. Sometimes, it will click twice in the space of two minutes, sometimes it will click only once in two or three days.
Typically it's simply a loud snapping sound, like if you get a pencil and snap it against a wooden desk. It doesn't make any other sounds besides the usual hard drive sounds.
For about a quarter of a second, the system pauses. I think it's related to heat, as it happens most often while playing a graphic-intensive game.

I am connected to my wireless network at home, and it works properly on my other computers at house. But on the x100e, the connection drops from time to time. Suddenly, the internet is gone, but ten seconds later, the network is back up again.Â
It's not that big a problem, but it is frustrating to lose the internet from time to time. It happens from every 5 minutes to once 30 minutes.Â

Jul 17, 2014It really annoys me that my new laptop, (Just a week old) when turned on takes a very long time before it starts. After the HP logo, it will show a blank page where my cursor can be moved, then it will stay a very a long time so I end up shutting it down then turning on again and again until it finally starts up. This really takes a lot of my time specially I use my laptop for work.

I had the = discrete nvidia graphics option along with the upgraded Dell screen (wxga+).
My question is this? Which will they send? They say it will be comparable. How can it be comparable if they dont even make a 14.1" vostro anymore? I don't want a 15" clunker because the reason i got the 14" was because of portibility.
I also dont wanna get stuck with onboard intel crap graphics, will they give me discrete video card?

I got my laptop back in august of 2008. Everything has been good up until a few weeks ago. From the moment I turn my computer on the CPU sit at 50% usage. I have no idea what is causing this. I can restart the laptop and as soon as vista boots up the cpu is sitting at 50% usage. According to the task manger windows explorer (explorer.exe) is using the cpu the most.
This is while at idle.
What could cause this? I thought maybe firefox was causing the problem so I uninstalled it but that only worked for about a day

On a side note, my laptop will not stay in standby. I close the lid it goes into standby and then a few min later comes back on. When it comes back on the fan is also running nonstop. Sometimes after it comes back from standby the mute and volume up buttons will be blinking. the buttons still work but they blink. I have already checked the power setting and they are not preventing standby

May 14, 2010I feel my studio 1558 i5 540m, 7200 rpm hdd has a pathetic boot performance.
Took 1min initially, cut down to 40 sec by microsoft utilities(bootperf), but back again to 1min boot.
I am running factory installed os (with crap removed) and have not clean installed.
Please post your boot times and mention if it is a clean install.

Sep 24, 2007I have an Inspiron 700m of which I am the original owner. I just ordered a new Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 80GB 7200rpm drive. I have only done one OS install prior to this when I assembled a desktop PC but that was several years ago and I was following an online guide (MySuperPC) virtually step-by-step.
I have contacted Dell and they sent me a reinstall copy of the OS (XP Home) on CD.
My biggest concern is partitioning. I'm really not clear on what this is all about or how I should go about doing this. I've had one person tell me not to partition at all. Another tell me to make it 50%-50% and another tell me to make a 5GB partition just for the OS.
This a basic email, web browsing, document reading type of machine that I use when I'm traveling.
I can follow to install the OS onto my new hard drive? I've seen a few, but they seem to be more geared toward recovery type reinstallations and several seem geared more toward "power users."

I was wondering how long it'd take, and if it'd be better to wait like a year?

Dell XPS 15 :: Fan Turns On And Off All The Time
Apr 22, 2013I'm currently using XPS 15 with i7-2720QM and Geforce 540GT. Everything is fine with it EXCEPT this damn fan that turns on and off all the time and Dell's support gives a damn on that. They blame faulty Geforce and they say that nothing can be done about this...
Are there any laptops that don't have this issue and are very, very quiet in addition (maybe like no fan at all?).

for some reason msn and firefox are slow on start up, maybe its because of 64bit?

Apr 2, 2009my work pc is a Dell inspiron 1520. it is mounted on Ram stand in my tow truck. the problem i am having is sometimes now when im driving down a bumpy road the backlight goes out.
to get it back on i either have to close the lid and open it, or shut it down and reboot.
i was thinking its the switch that tells the mother board that the lid is closed when its not. Is there any way to disable that switch so the backlight is on permantly
