M1330 motherboard died for the 3rd time and was told on Nov 21st that they will be sending me a replacement model. How long does it take for them to send it? Sucks to be without my one and only laptop. TIA
the new dell studio 15 has a option fora 900p screen. this prob means a 1440x 900 screen but it just doesn't make any sense calling it 900p. it even confused me..
I've got an Inspiron 9400 with the pathetic ATI x1400 living inside of it. I got a price from dell to upgrade to the GeForce 7900 for about 400$ Aussie dollars. My dilemma is that with DX10 coming along quite quickly etc...will i be pissing my money up against the wall by buying this card or should wait to get DX10 compatible card. Also the obvious..... what DX10 cards fit the Inspirion 9400's ?
A pretty good deal on the dell xps 1645 came up recently and I was wondering whether i should buy it now or wait for any updates to the dell studio xps 16 in the summer.
Do you guys think the studio xps 16 will have the ATI 5000 series graphics chip or new processor by summer time
I was about to Order FW490 from sonyStyle but while i'm searching about it i found this forum and the upcoming FW590
this is my customization.:

now as i read here maybe at 10/20 or 10/27, SonyStyle will but FW590 online!, but don't know will be for Ready or just "Coming Soon"?
Do you think FW590 deserve the waiting and i should cancel the idea of buying this? I hope the FW590 is same price and the FW490, and also i get tired of thinking about the LCD in the FW590 will be LED or not which is like FW490?
I am an owner of the old Z series(690) and have loved it ever since day 1. I think my only gripe was the gpu felt at times a bit weak for me, but that was to be expected. In general, it handled nearly all my tasks fine.
I am going to now be purchasing the new Z1190 CTO series. Right now, my specs are set to i7-620m, Win7 Professional, Silver, 4GB RAM, 192GB SSD. Is there any options you guys think I should change, such as an increase in RAM, or a decrease in something else, etc.
The only reason I have not purchased the laptop yet is because of 2 things, firstly is the 1600x900 resolution. I love the resolution, and while, sometimes, I find some things a bit small, overall everything is readable and fits well. When I heard they were having 1920x1080, that definitely got me excited. While I do not want to opt for the signature series Z, I am sure 1920x1080 will eventually come after a refresh.
Do you think it is worth waiting for the high resolution?
Is it worth it..or do you prefer the 1600x900?
Are there any major pros or cons to switching 1080p or is there not a large difference.
Lastly, the nvidia 330m, I do not know too much about. Most of the things I do on the computer, are not very graphic intensive, (light photoshopping, programming, etc) but will the Z with the specs I listed be able to run some games at decent settings with not everything turned down like the 9300?
I purchased a U430 ideapad 3 days ago. Set up the laptop without problems. Ran Windows Update and updated 8.1 with 40+ updates. All was fine - Until I powered off and later restarted.
The Lenovo loading screen was followed by windows user login. Entered password for user and the normal desktop appeared. Immediately a green window appeared almost filling the screen, with 'Please wait' in the centre and 'Cancel' bottom right.
Cancel does nothing and the Please Wait screen never goes - effectively locking the machine. The screen can't be resized, or closed, and the Desktop is only visible at the very top and bottom, but cannot be selected.
Pressing Ctrl-Alt-del and selecting Task Manager doesn't identify what has loaded to cause the problem and trying to switch applications shows the desktop and task manager but won't allow these to be selected, as the green screen just overlays everything.
I read online posts and did a factory reset, disabled the face-recognition software and repeated the Windows Update. All seemed fine, but next day the Green - Please wait - screen returned.
The only way I've found to regain access is to run the battery down to <10%. Getting a low battery warning at start up appears to stop the Green - please wait - screen loading and allows normal access to the Windows desktop. The laptop then functions normally until it's powered off and restarted and the Please Wait screen returns.
My laptop is an inspiron 1520, about a year old now. Ever since I've had it, the hard disk drive has been making a loud, random click from time to time. Sometimes, it will click twice in the space of two minutes, sometimes it will click only once in two or three days.
Typically it's simply a loud snapping sound, like if you get a pencil and snap it against a wooden desk. It doesn't make any other sounds besides the usual hard drive sounds.
For about a quarter of a second, the system pauses. I think it's related to heat, as it happens most often while playing a graphic-intensive game.
I just got my new x100e laptop today, and i really like it. But, it has a problem.  I am connected to my wireless network at home, and it works properly on my other computers at house. But on the x100e, the connection drops from time to time. Suddenly, the internet is gone, but ten seconds later, the network is back up again.Â
It's not that big a problem, but it is frustrating to lose the internet from time to time. It happens from every 5 minutes to once 30 minutes.Â
It really annoys me that my new laptop, (Just a week old) when turned on takes a very long time before it starts. After the HP logo, it will show a blank page where my cursor can be moved, then it will stay a very a long time so I end up shutting it down then turning on again and again until it finally starts up. This really takes a lot of my time specially I use my laptop for work.
I have an m1710 with complete care and I accidently spilled coke on it while it was still on. It now doesnt turn on anymore. I wanted to know if dell will fix it with spare parts or give me a replacement like m17x?
1. I got my laptop back in august of 2008. Everything has been good up until a few weeks ago. From the moment I turn my computer on the CPU sit at 50% usage. I have no idea what is causing this. I can restart the laptop and as soon as vista boots up the cpu is sitting at 50% usage. According to the task manger windows explorer (explorer.exe) is using the cpu the most. This is while at idle.
What could cause this? I thought maybe firefox was causing the problem so I uninstalled it but that only worked for about a day
2. On a side note, my laptop will not stay in standby. I close the lid it goes into standby and then a few min later comes back on. When it comes back on the fan is also running nonstop. Sometimes after it comes back from standby the mute and volume up buttons will be blinking. the buttons still work but they blink. I have already checked the power setting and they are not preventing standby
I have an Inspiron 700m of which I am the original owner. I just ordered a new Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 80GB 7200rpm drive. I have only done one OS install prior to this when I assembled a desktop PC but that was several years ago and I was following an online guide (MySuperPC) virtually step-by-step.
I have contacted Dell and they sent me a reinstall copy of the OS (XP Home) on CD.
My biggest concern is partitioning. I'm really not clear on what this is all about or how I should go about doing this. I've had one person tell me not to partition at all. Another tell me to make it 50%-50% and another tell me to make a 5GB partition just for the OS.
This a basic email, web browsing, document reading type of machine that I use when I'm traveling.
I can follow to install the OS onto my new hard drive? I've seen a few, but they seem to be more geared toward recovery type reinstallations and several seem geared more toward "power users."
I was looking at the stuff coming out soon, and expresscard 2.0 and usb 3.0 are coming out (asus cancelled their first usb 3.0 motherboard as of yet) but with usb 3.0/expresscard 2.0, our dreams of a fast ssd insertable would quickly come to fruition. I was wondering how long it'd take, and if it'd be better to wait like a year?
How much longer am I looking at for boxing? I know they have to fly this to Nashville and then send it to FedEx but... 5 days? Come on! Any ideas to get a clear ETA from a Dell agent would be great, mine has never had an estimated arrival time and this final stage is bugging me to bits!
I'm currently using XPS 15 with i7-2720QM and Geforce 540GT. Everything is fine with it EXCEPT this damn fan that turns on and off all the time and Dell's support gives a damn on that. They blame faulty Geforce and they say that nothing can be done about this...
Are there any laptops that don't have this issue and are very, very quiet in addition (maybe like no fan at all?).
I read lots of people getting replacements for their 2-4 yr old laptops with Dell warranty. I've been using my e1505 since June 2007 and just ordered 1558 last weekend, but with only 1-yr basic warranty.
Which warranties are those people using? Premium or Advanced? Which is comparable to "Complete Care"? Also, would it be cheaper to buy more expensive warranty at the checkout or buy extension once I receive the system?
Warranties cost only a few hundred dollars and people just seem to be getting amazing replacement laptops, like e1505 to SXPS 16.
so i had a e1705 that went bad so i got a new xps 1730 as replacement. so it has been acting up where it will shutoff while working for no reason and from what i have read most xps problems become nightmares so if for wot eva reason dell can not fix my 1730 what will dell replace it with?
Well my E1705 was sent in for warranty, and Dell informed me a few weeks ago I would be recieving a replacement system instead of them fixing mine. I guess they were out of stock of parts needed to fix my trusty E1705....
After some issues i had with my GPU, Dell agreed to replace both my Heatsink and Motherboard, and i wanted to ask those who have had replacements in the past; has anything changed since july 2008? (when i bought my m1530)
have they improved the heatsink, or even changed it? ( i got the aluminum one, crappy piece of engineering right there ) and im sure the GPU issues are still present, but do they run cooler now ?
im asking this because in July the "defective Nvidia GPUs" were still in the dark, and the news about them was a mere rumor...
