Dell :: Studio XPS 13: Lagging Issues During Charging
Jun 14, 2009
every time I plug it in to charge when it reaches critical battery state, all the programs severely lag. Windows take forever to come up, even file menus and the internet is slowed,
whether my Power Plan is on Battery Saver or High Performance or Balanced, this occurs. Initially I feared overheating, so I made small feet for the backside of the laptop to prop it up another inch and that seemed to help the heating part, but it still lags during initial charging.
The only way to get around this, temporarily, is to hibernate or shut it down after plugging it in to charge and returning a half an hour or more later on, then it's fine.

Out of no where, my cursor has started to lag. For example, if I move it quickly around in a circle, it will move, pause for a second, then sort of appear where it would be had it not lagged.
It does so on a very specific interval, like when spinning in a circle it will stop momentarily every 2 seconds. I've also noticed while playing a 3D game, the graphics will lag slightly every 2 seconds.
I've done in-depth virus/spyware checks, defrag etc. It really just randomly started. It does it with my wireless mouse and the touchpad.

I tried a 720p video and it worked perfect as I expected but when I downloaded a Full HD 1080p video, playing using VLC It lags so bad, I can barely keep up and watch it properly.
My system is:
P8600 2400 MHz, RGBLED 1080.
4GB DDR3, ATi HD 3670.
If any more info needed please say.
Could someone try this file (Messi goal in UCL Final ) and see if it lags as well.
also tell me what your specs are.
maybe Im expecting too much from this SXPS 1640?
But I hoped it can playback a full HD video fine.

A few days ago, the battery of my Dell Studio 1737 suddenly stopped charging. When I have the laptop on net power, the power icon now displays '8% available (plugged in, not charging).
Is this a case of a dead battery, or is something else broken on my laptop? If it's the battery, which one do I need to order? I can only find a 'Dell 85 WHr 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery for Dell Studio 1745/ 1747/ 1749 Laptops' but according to the system configuration I have a 6-cell 56W/Hr Lithium-Ion battery installed. Can I just switch to the 9-cell battery?

My studio 1737 laptop always says its plugged in and not charging. I had the original battery in and on boot up the bios says that the battery is not recognized if I unplug the laptop with that battery in it automatically dies. I also purchased another battery online I get the same error on boot but this battery actually has a charge straight out of the box so the laptop will run if I unplug it. However, the battery will not charge. I also bought a new official dell charger since the after market one gives me an error on boot up. I have also replaced the CMOS battery because I was getting an error on that too and the clock kept resetting.
I currently have the new battery, new official dell charger, and a new CMOS battery installed and the battery still does not charge. What could be causing this?

About a month ago, I bought a Dell Studio 1555 from Dell UK.
The specs are:
P8600 process (2.4ghz)
4Gb RAM
320Gb HDD
Since I got it, I've had two issues, which I suspect may be linked. First, whenever I use the integrated webcam, the machine freezes, necessitating a reset via the power button. There is no blue screen, it just freezes, and nothing moves. This sometimes happens after 5 seconds of webcam use, sometimes 20 minutes, but it ALWAYS happens. It doesn't just happen on Windows Live Messenger, but also when using Dell's own Webcam Central software.
Secondly, when I'm playing music from my hard disk, usually via iTunes, or though youtube, the music lags whenever the machine is doing anything slightly intensive, such as loading a new webpage, as if it's struggling.
I have updates ALL drivers, the BIOS, reinstalled Vista twice, and still no change. I suspect this is something to do with a loose RAM chip or graphics card, but Dell support are no use, and keep insisting I download updated drivers, despite having already done this several times over.

I bought a Vostro 3445 laptop just 3 months ago. It is a quad core APU A6 processor with 4GB ram and integrated radeon graphics. The laptop worked fine for a couple of months but from the last 15 days I am experiencing an issue with Audio and Video upon continuous usage of the laptop for about 2 or 3 hours. The speakers start producing crackling sound and video starts lagging as well.
The problem goes away once I restart my computer but it resurfaces again in 3 hours.

My husband bought me this Sony Vaio VGN-NW240F as an early VDay present. I love it with one exception, the touchpad! I notice it only acts up when the computer is idle and takes a few seconds to start working properly. My husband suggested I return it for another one but before I do that I want to see if anyone else has had this problem. Is it going to make a difference if i exchange it?

Specs: Core i5 540, 4gb ram, freshly formatted and windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Running apps: Firefox, msn, skype, foobar, microsoft security essentials.
This is seriously becoming a real nuisance! Website pages are suffering real laggy scrolling and loading things up. Even pages without images are just as bad and much worse performance scrolling than my desktop e4300. Scrolling this page alone is treated like i have completly maxed out my ram (4gb) when i'm only on 1.7gb by having firefox and 4 forum tabs opened. My old core2duo could handle way more than this and run smooth on 2gb of ram. My friend said it could be the nvidia drivers, but i downloaded all the latest drivers from sony site.
I can't believe that an i5 could perform so badly for simple web browsing with no apps installed and the latest driver. I even switched the AC powered Z to speed mode with no help whatsoever.
I'm just wondering if anyone is getting any stutter, jitter, laggy issues browsing with their i5? It just doesn't make sense after a clean format to get such shoddy performance.

Last Friday i received my new Studio 1749 with i3. As told by the documentation I put in the battery, put the power cable in the ac-adapter, pluged the AC-cable into the laptop and then pluged the ac-adapter into the wall outlet. I booted the laptop and once I was on the windows desktop had a look at the battery symbol. It showed that the laptop was connected to external power and that the battery was being charged.
I wen't away from the laptop to let it charge the battery for 12 hours as told by the documentation. After two hours i came back to have a look at the laptop and it was off. Curious I turned it on again. After booting up it showed the battery at 60% and the laptop running from battery. Yet the ac-adapter was connected to the laptop. I hadn't changed anything. I pluged the adapter cable in and out, but it wouldn't recognize that the was external power available. Turning the laptop off an on again didn't work either.
Now I feared for the battery. My guess is that at one point it started to run on battery power even though it was not charged for 12 hours. Then when the battery was depleted the laptop shut down. This might have permanently damaged the battery!
I guess as soon as the laptop was off the ac-adapter charged the battery again, and when I came in it was just at 60%.
So I turned it off removed the ac-adapter, removed the battery, put the battery back into the laptop pluged the ac-adapter back in and booted up again. Now it showed it was running from external power again. All fine. It charged the battery as well. Actually it charged the battery up to 99% and then out of nowhere the battery symbol changed and it was running from battery AGAIN! Even though it was still connected to the ac-adapter. This happens all the time. It is reproducable.
So I thought something might be wrong with the ac-adapter.
I powered down the laptop and removed the battery. Now with only the ac-adapter connected ,I tried to start the laptop. The control lights above the keyboard came on for 2 or 3 seconds and then the laptop turned off again. Trying to hit the power button again after that didn't give another reaction.
Conclusion: The laptop won't run just on external power with no battery in the battery bay.
I put in the battery again. AC-adapter still connected. Hit power. Laptop starts to boot. Then while booting I removed the battery. Laptop keeps on booting - finishes booting - runs nice and well at full speed not missing the battery - FOREVER.
So it won't boot with the battery removed, but it will run without it flawlessly??? Strange isn't it?
Next test: I put in the battery again while the laptop is running from mains. And now it charges the battery again until the point... you already know... it "forgets" that it is connected to the ac-adapter and starts running on battery power. So now I boldly removed the battery while the laptop was running. After all it was still connected to mains/ac-power.

The problem is that my laptop was working fine and then yesterday morning it wouldn't boot correctly (stuck on vista login screen). It eventually worked but the cursor was sticking and the it was impossible to type in. What is more, the light on the laptop shows that the laptop is charged but the actual battery icon onscreen says that battery is at 0% (but plugged in and charging). Having spent some time searching for an explanation online (on another computer of course) I am worried that it may be a problem with the motherboard.....? Or is it just a RAM issue?

I have an older Inspiron 6400 (looks like the 1505) that isn't charging the battery. The bios indicates that the battery is charging, and that it is performing normally. There isn't a red flashing battery indicator, but when the laptop is powered on there isn't any "green light" indication of the battery, either. The AC adapter performs normally ( Charger is a PA10 (90watt) and it works fine on my D800, and charges that battery normally).
What I don't understand is why the BIOS indicates the battery is charging and that the battery is performing normally. However, when I have the system up and running there isn't a green battery indicator light on the button strip. Let me clarify that statement. During the initial boot phase of start-up there is the green indicator light on the button strip, but as the OS finishes loading this light goes out and the battery doesn't charge.
Could this be caused by a faulty Bios update, or is it something with the battery charging circuit of the motherboard? The laptop operates normally when using the AC adapter, just no indication of the battery charging when the OS is fully loaded. OS is Windows XP Pro (SP3).

My Laptop is 1 year and 5 months old. There are 2 problems I am facing with my battery:
1) When it is charging, at around 86% level, it stops charging and I see an orange light blinking at the battery icon and it continues to blink unless I turn the power off and allow the battery to discharge for a while.
2) at around 45% to 50% level, the battery level suddenly drops to 7% level and then I have to charge again.
Because of these issues I now use my laptop as a desktop. It is always plugged in and I use the option of "Stop Charging" in the windows power settings. how to solve the problem.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years. For the past month, when my power supply is plugged in, the battery does not charge. It has been stuck on 3% and will automatically shut down when unplugged.
I have seen that this is a very common problem, however, when hovering over the battery icon it says: plugged in, CHARGING, where as all of the other posts that I have seen say: plugged in, NOT charging.
I have tried taking the battery out and restarting but this did not work. I also drained my battery and tried to recharge but again, this did not work. My initial thought is that I may need a new battery but I just wanted to check first.

My E1705 battery refuses to charge. I had a bum power adapter which I had replaced. Got the new one today and it still won't charge my battery.
What occurs is that I plug in the power and the battery icon in Win7 indicates it is charging. The charging animation in Win7 continues until your battery is charged. But in my case after about 30sec the animation stops, and show a quarter charge and never fully charges.
This indicates a faulty battery I'm assuming? It wouldn't be the power port would it?

I can't think of any reason that it would be doing this... Its the same adapter that came with the system, the only one that I've ever plugged into this computer ......

I recently got the dreaded "Plugged in, not charging" message in vista of my Dell XPS 1530.My laptop is out of warranty .I tried all the methods suggested and flashed the bios to A09 from A12.I also checked the BIOS and it says
Battery Charge = 6%
Charger = 90W
Also when I connect the charger the charging light would flash for 5 sec. and then go off.Due to this the battery charge has moved from 6% to 7%.
I cannot buy a new mbd worth $500 . Any other cure for this ????

Are all dells complete wastes of money like this? My much cheaper Acer outlasted this hunk of crap.
Anyhow, according to the computer my battery is dead and needs to be replaced, but why the hell does the battery have such a crap life? or is it something else? This laptop has spent 90% of its life on the A/C charger

Had an E1505 for a few years now, and with the exception of a HD failure/subsequent replacement, it's been absolutely great.
Recently though, it gave me the error message "adapter not recognized, blah, blah, blah" message upon POST...
Tried a different adapter as well, but no luck. It runs off the adapter(s) just fine, but won't charge, so I'm permanently attached to a cord until I get this fixed

I currently own an M1530 and just today I had this problem of battery not charging. I ran the laptop on battery and did a diagnostic from bios, after like 2hrs the laptop shut down,
I guess it was because of empty battery. When I plugged in and switched on, it said "plugged in, not charging" and the battery was at 0%. Then I tried to take the battery out

My Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook is plugged in but will not charge. The battery is completely drained and the power will immediately shut off when the power cable is unplugged. The battery meter indicates "O% Available (plugged in, not charging)". Every time I restart it I am told to plug in a Dell charger with 45 watts or greater. Thinking my charger might have been the issue, I just purchased a Dell replacement charger, and it is still not recognizing it. I have seen on other posts that indicate a possible solution is to update the BIOS; however, when I download and try to run the latest BIOS, I am told that the battery needs to be at least 10% charged in order to update.

my Dell XPS 15z is only ten months old while on my computer last night something popped up saying:
'The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.
Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge.
This problem might be solved by:
Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation. Connect a Dell 130W adapter or higher'
i've always taken really good care of my laptop never dropped it or anything i hope that its not broke...
if it is broken and i have my year warranty do i still pay for whatever new part i need?
