Dell Vostro 3560 :: Great Fan Noise And HDD Overheating?

Mar 29, 2013

I think there are many others' complains about the fan noise. When in a quiet night the fan's suddenly noise really hurts me. Finally I noticed that it is the PCH diode that trigger the fan. when the temperature of PCH goes over 65 C, the fan starts running at full speed while CPU is around 50 C and lower. So will the next bios solve this problem? just make fan starting running at 65 C or lower with a  very slow rpm to just cool down the PCH, rather than a instant full speed running at 70C. And I also want to ask that why the PCH is so hot, there is no any cooling part on it?

I also have to complain the HDD overheating. 42-45C is a normal temperature now while my 5 years old Inspiron 1520 is normally 35-37 C. the place for the HDD is not perfect. It avoids the feeling of vibration when putting HDD down your wrist, but the CPU heat around it becomes a new problem. I think it is unsolvable. And the workmanship of DELL is getting worse, since my new Vostro 3560 has many small flaws...

Dell Vostro 3560 :: Will Not Hibernate Or Sleep

Apr 3, 2013

I have 10+ years experience, but I cant resolve this bug.  I have a 3560 Vostro, new running win7.  It has never went to sleep or hibernate properly.  I have set it to go to sleep after 10 minutes and hibernate after 120 minutes, neither work as I wake up the next morning to find the laptop still running.  ALSO I set the power button to "hibernate" and when pressing that it takes me to the log into windows screen.  It seems like the computer goes to hibernate and IMMEDIATELY wakes up to the login screen.

Is there a program or setting that is preventing the PC from sleep/hibernation?

Dell Vostro 3560 :: MSATA Caching Option

Jan 25, 2013

I bought a Vostro 3560 without the 32GB mSATA caching option. I found out that I need a new daughter card 82PYC in order to get the mSATA port available for my Vostro configuration, because the connector is not available if bought without the mSATA caching option. The question is, is only caching with the mSATA port/drive possible or can I buy a larger mSATA drive (say 128GB) and use it as ssd boot drive ?

Dell Vostro 3560 :: Fingerprint Reader No Longer Works At Log On Screen Or Lock Windows 8

Dell Vostro 3700 :: Overheating And Freeze Ups

Apr 6, 2013

I bought a Vostro 3700 i7-720q used on ebay. After I bought it I found it would freeze. I eliminated everything I though it could be (i/o conflict, drivers, etc) and nothing worked. This was probably the reason it was sold on ebay. I noticed how hot the machine and fan got. I researched upgradeding the cpu to an i7-940xm and when got the chip planned to put in best thermal transfer to solve the freeze up problem I conculded was due to heat. I thought to be Powerstrate xtreme to be the best thermal transfer to use during the cpu switchout.

I pull the heat sink and its obivous why my machine was hot. The thermal past was a crummy job. I cleaned off heat sink with arctic Ice cleaner, put powerstrate xtreme on cpu and replaced the cpu with a i7-940. Boots up and has been running fine AND it is soooo much cooler.

Getting to the heat sink IS NOT an easy task in the Vostro 3700 - I love my Vostro 3700 BUT it is a very delicate task to remove the keyboard, palm rest and base in order to get to the motherboard and heatsink. I wouldn't do it again.

Dell :: Vostro 1310 Fan Noise

Apr 9, 2009

I recently purcahsed a vostro 1310 laptop. It's been absolutely great, except for one thing: the fan is incredibly annoying.

Once the processor reaches 45 degrees celsius, the fan kicks in, lowers it to 40, and then turns off. A few minutes later, the computer will go up to 45, and the fan will kick in again; so it goes through this loop of turning on and off, which is incredibly annoying.

Doing some more research, I've found that other people have also had this 'problem'. Undervolting and switching to powersaving mode solved the problem a bit, but once it hits 45, I still have the same problem.

Dell :: Getting A Studio Slim/Vostro 220 Slim How Is The Noise Level?

Apr 12, 2009

I plan to get a Dell Studio Slim/Vostro 220 Slim. At first I wanted a Dell Studio Hybrid, but since I am using this computer for streaming live TV I can't add in a tv tuner to that and is out of the race.

Therefore the Studio Slim/Vostro 220 seem like the best small dell computer that I can use as a media center PC (streaming movies, pictures, live TV all from WMC/tv tuner). Does anyone know how is the noise level is? Can it be heard? Watching movies? Fan noise?

The noise of the system is a deal breaker/deal maker for me so the more detail anyone can give the better

Apple :: Macbook Pro 13"Great Unix Developers Machine

Jul 5, 2009

my expensive massive desktop replacement PC recently died after only 16 months - and I was sick of lugging this monster around.

I'm a software consultant - so I need to be able to run both MS .NET environments, and J2EE depending where I'm working.

Having never really looked at the Mac OS X, before - I thought what the hell, after being thoroughly enthralled by the build quality and price of the new 13" pro. It was a nice contrast from the 7kg beast I was lugging about before.

Well! What an eye opening revelation, seconds after opening my first bash shell and realizing the whole damn thing is sitting on top of Unix.

No need for linux as I was intending. I setup bootcamp but haven't needed to use it yet - for now being able to use a VM - but it's nice to know it's there if need be.

I'm completely recommending this to any Unix or Linux developers out there.
The more I dig, the more I find various Mac OSX binary builds of my favorite Linux packages.

My only minor complaint is I find Finder a little quirky in it's behavior, but no worse than half a dozen X windows file managers.

Dell :: Inspiron 13, XPS M1330, Studio XPS 13, Vostro 1320 Or Vostro 1310

Apr 5, 2009

im not sure if i want a graphic card in it, as it would just eat battery life and i would get nothing much out of it, since i have no plans in gaming with it.

i will be, however massively watching movies, and streaming movies (99.9% of the web, not dvd player) would that need a dedicated graphic card?

i would also like to know which are the best in terms of :

price, screen quality, build quality, weight, which ones have the same keyboard, current known issues, and are they any rumors or known news of any updates of any of these models in the next 6 months worth waiting for?

ive also bought a m1330 a few months back, but since i had some issues with school, i had to return it and delay my purchase to this year.

the laptop was getting extremely hot, like not even possible to put on my lap kind-of hot. is that issue fixed?

I really don't know why... It's been like this for a couple weeks or more now. Power settings are all on max of course... But when I first got the laptop, it'd idle pretty cool... Now my hands sweat while typing :

Laptop is not overclocked (I did overclock a bit in October for Crysis now and then)

My room is pretty cold.

I'm going to open it up and look for dust... But I really doubt this is the problem.

I thought this is a overheating problem, but after viewing some threads about overheating, it seems like that overheat only lead to a shut down or a restart. Since my computer simply go black and turn off, I don't know if my pc is overheating. Can someone tell me if Im overheating? If not, what's causing these crashes?

Btw, my GPU and ACPI temp were around 83C five min before my computer crashes...

Dell :: Is My E6400 Overheating?

May 1, 2009

Just got my E6400 from Dell Outlet today and i noticed it's running noticeably hot.

I've read some of the posts on the nvidia overheating problem so I decided to run the same tests other people did. The screenshot is after running 3DMark2006 on Balanced power setting.

Are those temps ok? I talked to a rep who acknowledged the potential problem with the nvidia chipset and said if i send this to the depot now they can take a look at the mobo, cpu and gpu and have it back to me in less than 10 regular days.

Since I have finals coming up, I'd much rather not send it in unless they offer me onsite or some potential freebies, which the rep refused to. So any suggestion would be much appreciated. Should I run some more tests?
