Oct 13, 2009

Laptop started with verticle lines. Did some research, seems common video card problems - scoured the net for cheapest replacement (dell wanted crazy money!)

Found ebay seller who links to this forum (did not purchase).
Seems the link is for 9300's...read about flashing BIOS to make laptop think its an XPS...

But, MINE is.

DO i need both the battery and power supply? battery died a year ago and i just took it out. Laptop is desktop. Prefer not to buy Battery .....

Dell :: Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra ...

Jun 8, 2009

A couple weeks ago I put my laptop (a Dell XPS M170) beside my bed cause I had to use the MC Alarm to get up cause I had to be up at like 4 AM and I don't do well with the beep beep alarms.

Anyway, I plugged it in and sat it on the floor on top of (for lack of anything better) two Arizona tallboy cans laid longways (the feet sat on these) with a chess set box underneath (in case

it happened to slip off one of the cans). I also left the screen partway up. Well of course I left it on overnight for the alarm, but when I got up to go to the bathroom ...

Dell :: Updated My Inspiron 9300 With A 7800

Oct 25, 2007

I updated the graphics card for my Inspiron 9300.. Lots of money, and lots of time wasted, and now I'm having huge issues with my laptop. First off, I ended up buying two Dell AC adapters (both rev02) and with both I get an incompatibility error when I start my laptop.. Now, I get around this by unplugging the AC and pluging it back when I'm inside windows... good enough

Well, now I have another problem. In windows, if I were to even drag a window and pan it around, I would lose my display .. I would get these diagonal patterns covering my screen. and then after a few seconds the screen turns pitch black.. I've tried different things and everytime I seem to get the same result.

The drivers that I'm using for the 7800 is the ones recommended here for the initial installation of the card.. I've also tried others but to no avail.

I've flashed my bios more than twice but the same result.

I've even bought a new 9 cell battery even though I already had one to begin with(but it was functionally weird)

7800 card: [url]

My spec:

inspiron 9300

pentium 2.13(something like that)
2gigs of ram
initial graphics card was geforce 6800

Dell :: Can Some One Give Me Tips On Overclocking GPU

Dec 7, 2009

Im trying to overlock my 9400mg a little bit as well as my processor p8600 2.4ghz core 2 duo with Nvidia performance tools (ntune).

Stock GPU clock: 450/1075/1100
overclocked GPU: 500/1075/1200

CPU stock FSB clock: 267 (2.4ghz)
Overclocked CPU clock: 301 (2.7ghz)

Now I noticed an option on motherboard tab "PCIe slot 1: 2500mhz"
should I increase the PCIe clock? to about 2700mhz just like the processor, or how much should I move it, or do I even need to move it? Is there any benefit of playing with pcie clock, or what does it effect in the system in terms of hardware?

Dell :: XPS M1710 Tips For Vista

I am about to set it up, but before I personalize, I just wondered whether anyone has any good tips. I am going to use Vista Ultimate.

Should I format/reinstall since it comes with a lot of unnecessary software?

Any starter tips for Vista? I hear you can change initial settings to improve performance greatly. Is this exaggerated?

Should I overclock the CPU? If so, what speed is recommended, and are there detailed instructions anywhere on the site?

Dell :: Orange Box On 6800 Go

Dec 31, 2007

regarding the Orange Box performance (mainly Portal) and the 6800 Go. I have a lower fps than I expected to have after playing HL2. But I realized that if I put AA up to 4x in the game, I get better performance than with just 2x (about 6-8 fps improvement). Thats at running at 1280x800 resolution.

I"m using just the Dell 84.30 drivers right now because I can't seem to find a good set of drivers. The others I used were the MobileForce 169.04's, but I wasn't getting a very good FPS. I think my laptop should handle Portal at 1280x800 at around a consistent 30+ fps (with V-sync and triple buffering, no HDR, Medium on every setting with medium, high on the other options). I could be wrong though, I seemed to have run HL2 pretty good at higher settings.

So yeah I'm just curious if anybody else that has a 6800 Go has any recommendations for drivers and why I'm getting better performance with more AA enabled right now. My specs (a bit older laptop):

Pentium M 1.6 Ghz
2 GB of RAM
NVIDIA Geforce Go 6800
Windows XP SP2

Dell :: M6400: Comes With XP SP3 Pre-installed, But I Want To Install XP SP2 Instead: Anyone Have Any Tips?

May 31, 2009

I bought a M6400 recently, and asked that XP be installed and Vista be available.....
So I have XP Pro OEM SP3 preinstalled on the machine, and Vista Ultimate Sp1 available on a separate DVD... I'm not ready to go to Vista yet, so I want to run XP for now. However, I am certain that Sp3 is at the root of practically all the problems I am suffering, and I need to get rid of it. Anyone have any idea how to do this? The Dell XP disc has Sp3 on it, so I can't simply hit "uninstall" and get rid of SP3. I have OEM SP2 XP discs available and have a moderate knowledge of slipstreaming, so I just need some pointers.
My other laptop, a Lenovo T60P, has only Sp2 installed and is suffering none of the issues the Dell has, so I'm pretty sure that Sp3 needs to go.

Dell :: Dead 6800 In My 9300

Apr 18, 2008

turn on the power and for the first couple boots, I could see the POST info, but it was really distorted. Now the backlight comes on and I get nothing. I can hear the machine booting, and everything else seems fine, but no display.

I pulled the display off another laptop and it looks exactly the same, so I'm assuming it's the 6800, but I don't have any way to test for sure.

Now... if it IS the vid card, I'm not sure I want to shell-out $200 - $350 for a new vid card. The rest of the lappy works fine (in fact, I JUST upgraded the CPU). Think I could get any money for it?

Also, would would be a good replacement for around $700? I'd like the something with the WUXGA screen like I have now and at least something comparable to the 6800 I have now as well.

Dell :: Flashing Geforce GO 6800

Jul 23, 2007

I've got a Dell Inspiron 9300. Recently, I flashed my vBios and had to do a blind flash. I've got a flash drive with all of the things needed on it, but I'm not so sure about the ROM. It was the only one I could find on the net, and it hasn't worked so far. I left the flash drive in for almost two hours, and it finally did the two beeps. It was on full auto mode and it didn't restart; it just sat there.

I guess I'm begging someone to send me a default bios for a Dell i9300's go 6800 gpu (NV41, according to dell, not sure if it matters).

Also, for clarification, the "backlight" refers to the monitor emitting a glow while still being blank, yes? Because as it is, the monitor doesn't even come on, much less emit any light.

Dell :: Warranty Extention Tips (SXPS M1340)

May 3, 2010

My warranty on my SXPS m1340 expires soon. I started a system exchange two weeks ago and I'm getting a replacement system. This will be my second replacement, I've had various problems with my system. I don't want this system exchange to arrive without a warranty. I recently chatted with dell for a warranty extension and for a 1 year extension it cost $421.75. I said that's a little high and the agent called me and offered me $320.20 with a $75.00 gift card urging me to take the offer as it is "Limited". I told the agent to call back later. Should I take the 1 year warranty for $320.20 with the gift card or still try and play hardball with Dell. I definitely need to buy a warranty extension, I cant even count how many issues I've had with my system.

Dell :: Precision M4300 Installed The NVIDIA Drivers For The NVidia Quadro FX 360M ...

Dec 29, 2008

I recently got a Dell Precision M4300 from a friend and had a few questions.

When i got the laptop, I reformatted the Laptop and Reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2. I proceeded from Microsoft to Update to SP3 and so on.

Well I also Went to Dell's Website and downloaded all the necessary drivers (using the service tag) for this laptop and installed them.

Now here is where I ran into a problem,

When I installed the NVIDIA drivers for the NVidia Quadro FX 360M video card, everything seemed to go fine. Then I rebooted the Laptop, and now every time I reboot, my hardware acceleration is defaulted back to None, and it gives me multiple pop ups about this issue. I go into the settings and turn the Acceleration back to full and it goes away.

This is a major problem, and is really frustrating to deal with everytime the laptop is booted up.

My other problem, is when I open up Internet Explorer, It tends to lock up the browser for no reason when Loading a website. I then CTRL+ALT+DEL and attempt to close iexplore.exe via the task manager. It closes the browser but does not shut down the browser, making it impossible to browse, so then I have to reboot.

here are the specs of the PC, from the device manager and drivers I have gotten

Dell Precision M4300
NVidia Quadro FX 360M 512mb Video Graphics Card
TSST 8x dvd+-R burner
120GB Hard Drive
3.5GB of Ram
2.5GHZ T9300 Core 2 Duo Processor
