Dell XPS L702X :: Windows 7 - Startup Repair Loop
Jul 23, 2011
I just bought this laptop. It's been 1 week and I was playing a game then I saw blue screen and forced to reset my computer. After that I couldn't start Windows 7. It stuck on startup repair and can't repair it somehow. I tried everything but noting is working. I tried to use the Dell cd for factory settings but still can't use windows after the first install. I am going to copy my problem signature. Is this Virus and what cause it?
Problem Event Name : StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signiture 01 : 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signiture 02 : 6.1.7600.16385

I have a Dell XPS 17 laptop that seems to be stuck in the Startup Repair Loop, and I have tried everything to get out of the startup repair mode, but nothing seems to be working. I have tried F8, Safe Mode, System Restore (to two different dates), and the command prompt, but everything happened to no avail. I even did the Diagnostics test (long version), and that came up with nothing. I purchased the laptop back in October of 2010, and it has Windows 7. The laptop went into this Startup repair loop about a day after it did a Windows "Critical" update. One of the programs that the update tried to install onto my computer was Google Chrome (which it, according to the laptop, failed to install properly). It makes me wonder if the update uninstalled a driver, or turned a driver bad.
Two errors that I repeatedly get are "Corruptfile" and "Autofailover". I truly hope that this is something that can be fixed, and I hope that I will not have to restore my laptop back to it's factory settings.

I have a dell xps17 (l702x) laptop recently had a problem with it , that is it wouldn't start up and when i turn it on after 2 seconds it would just crash , so i changed the motherboard , processor and and it fixed the problem to some extent .. now my problem is i that when i turn on it loads to a certain extent then when it reaches the windows start-up logo it would just crash and restart again . so i tried the diagnostic test available by pressing F12 it dint show any problem .. looks like my windows got corrupted due to the sudden crash earlier
I tried to boot from the windows repair disc but it wouldn't boot ( i did change the boot up to cd / dvd) then i tried to boot up from the windows 7 disc , it would say "press any key to boot from cd or ddvd " after doing so it would load the files and and crash again at windows start up . i even tried the safe mode option . it wouldn't load it completely and get stuck , i tried to restore to the last good backup it would still get stuck at windows startup .

I purchased a refurbished Dell e6410 about a year ago. The Laptop was working find with no issues. But in mid August, I did a windows 7 update... After the update, windows restarted... But instead of booting up to windows... It went to "startup repair". It ran this several times until is said it could not repair the startup.
I ended up having to do a recovery and reload windows and re-image my HD... After doing that, I tried windows update again. Same issue. after windows update... It would just got to startup repair.
Again, I had to restore my OS and re-image my drive. I tested and checked the HD and go no errors. Ran disk check and disk check /r... But if I tried to run a windows update it would just go into startup repair and I would eventually have to just reload my os and re-image the drive.
I spoke to an agent from Dell about it... He suggested I wait a month before trying to do the windows update. Perhaps they have a bug.
So I waited two months and tried an update again, last night. This time, I would get the dell logo, with f12 option, that would go away and then "windows is loading necessary files", but then the screen would go black and dell screen came up gain, then "windows is loading necessary files". I let it do this for almost an hour. Windows never started... I had no option to get into safe mode or any other boot modes. I have a regular desk top pc that I have done windows update and it has no issues.
I am running windows 7 64bit.

Due to an update for the Bluetooth driver, my Laptop Inspiron N5010 has gone into a Repair Option Loop. Primary suggestion is to deal with the RegBack folder, something I haven't tried just yet. I can't see (through Linux Live DVDs or Win 7 Installation DVD) the Document Folder. There's is a User Folder and a UserName Folder but no Document Folder. There's a Desktop Folder but the files that used to be there are no longer there. I'm not sure if I really lost them or they're hidden by the system. I thought of removing the Hard Drive and connecting it to another PC to see if the Documents are still there but for this Inspiron, you need an Engineering Degree to remove the HD.
Before someone suggest it, there is no way to get into Safe Mode. The only option is using the Win 7 Home Premium Ed, go to repair option (which fails) and try the System Restore option. All ten Restoration Points failed.

Unfortunately I woke up this morning to my Y410P stuck with the Lenovo logo and text saying "Preparing Automatic Repair". After a few moments it will say "Diagnosing your PC " and then "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." Then after a few seconds it restarts and everything happens again.

My Inspiron 1525 when it starts up and I choose startup repair after a few seconds the screen will go black. If I start up windows normally, it will think and then shows a window that says " a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".. I pressed F12 at startup and chose diagnostics and I got the error code 0142. What should I do??

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. So, a few months ago, I got mad at my laptop and slammed the screen down. I think it was taking its sweet time shutting down or something. I can't remember. Anyway, the next time I tried to turn it on, it goes into Startup Repair, and then comes up with a screen of errors, namely "StartupRepairOffline", "Autofailover", "NoOSInstalled". I can go into advanced options and go into DOS command (it comes up to the X drive); I was able to successfully pull off stuff I wanted, but I'm thinking I damaged the hard drive. I've let this sit for awhile, using my daughters' laptop, but now I want mine back and want to repair it. What should I do first? Also, I don't think I have any startup disks or anything like that.

I've had my XPS 17 for a week and have run into problems. Initially, I had no problems but two days after owning the machine, picked up the first: I opened up the laptop lid and was met by a message, the gist of which was 'Windows has recovered from a blue screen error' . I rebooted and put that message in my 'lets wait and see if that happens again' memory bank.
Things went well after that until I tried installing and using a game, which would have been the first time I'd used my GT 555M graphics card in anger. Installation went well but after starting the game, the screen started flickering, messages started appearing in the bottom right hand corner of the screen saying 'graphics has malfunctioned but recovered', or something to that effect, then the laptop crashed.
I tried updating drivers (I'm 100% sure they were compatible with my card) and this made my laptop even more unstable, throwing freeze after freeze, blue screen after blue screen and refusal to boot or shut down at me.
I decided to start from scratch and did a complete factory settings restore and upon first switch on (the laptop does it's 'setting up for first use' routine) was met with a blue screen error. The error details were as follows:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 116 BCP1: FFFFFA800BF95010 BCP2: FFFFF8800F438EA8 BCP3: 0000000000000000 BCP4: 0000000000000002 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 768_1
The laptop then rebooted itself and seemed to run just fine. I checked the device manager and it appears windows has shut down my GT 555M card as it was reporting problems.
I ran Dell diagnostics prior to the full factory restore and beside the fact it didn't pick up the GT 555M (it did test the Intel HD3000 and that was fine), it said all was fine.
I have just rerun the diagnostics after the restore and it seems the DVD drive is now having issues too:
OPU Test - not supported
Spindle Test - not supported
Tray Out Test - not supported
My machines details:
Model Dell System XPS L702X
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (64-bit)

I'm using Dell Studio 1555. I've use it around 3 years. Last week my laptop start making up problem.
Firstly it will suddenly restart while i'm using it. Sometimes it will come up blank screen and need me to restart back.
After that during start up my dell logo will take times to pop up. And will ask me to repair my window.
I've read some post here said that it maybe because of the CMOS battery and I've already change it and dell logo is pop up a little bist faster than before.
But right now my laptop could not be start up. When I power up, the LED button at the On/off button is ok.
The fan also running. When I plug in my Iphone it will be charge but there is nothing on the screen.
I've also put on external monitor but also didn't show anything.
And also there is no sound @ beep during my start up.

my Windows is not able to boot and I have to repair it with a Windows Vista DVD taken from another Dell (Desktop) PC. The installation is not able to detect a drive and so I am not able to select a Windows installation to repair. I need the drivers for the Harddisk (or controller) to add it to the repair process. The problem is that on the Driver support page only firmware for the hard drive is available but no .inf file that I need for the repait.
where I can find the .inf file or if it is possible to extract the file from the destroyed windows installation (via live-linux).

My Dell Inspiron 1764 laptop will not boot up after using windows 7 installation disc in repair mode, as it has to restart several times during set up, it would not restart after first phase of operation. It never got to finish operation. Now it is just coming up with a black screen saying, Windows boot manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change it might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. insert windows installation disc and restart computer (which it will not let me do)2. choose your language settings and then click next 3. click repair your computer
if you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance
file: BootBcd
status: 0x000000f
info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data
After start up even pressing F8 before logo disappears numerous times it will not let me into that menu, so I cant access start up in safe mode or last known good configuration. No matter what I do it will not go past the above message on screen.

My laptop is Dell Studio 1558 with Windows 7 as the OS. The issue is that now when i try to turn on the Laptop, its go'n to "Windows Error Recovery" with following options to enter:
"Launch start up repair"

"Error code 0142Msg: Error Code:200-0142Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessfulStatus:79"
Now when i try the same option [F12 - Boot option- Diagnostics]"Error code 0146Msg: Error Code:200-0146Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test log contains previous error(s)What should I do to resolve this issue?

I'm very stuck with my Y580, and I'll start by saying that I purchased the laptop about 1.5 years ago, and it came with Windows 8 installed. I didn't like Windows 8 so much, so I decided that I would get Win7. I also decided that I'd put it on an mSATA to speed things up. After doing so, I just formatted the boot partition on the older drive to use for storage. But I kept the recovery partition on there. Everything seemed to work fine until I was recently informed that I should update the BIOS. I followed all of the instructions from Lenovo in updating to the version 8.00, something like 89WW in the file name. Then recently I noticed my temps were realllly hot when gaming... and I don't play graphically demanding games. I monitored my temps and found out that my CPU (i73630QM) was running over 90°c when playing games like LoL, Dishonored, RIFT, Darksiders, and a few others, all on lower settings.
I did some googling about temps and a lot of people were saying that BIOS is often a culprit for high temps. Maybe you've already put two and two together, but it took me until this point to discover that the BIOS I had updated to is a Win8 BIOS, and I'm using Win7. I figured, this is probably a big part of my issue (and even if it's not going to solve the heat issue, I'd still like to have all my ducks in a row and have all my hardware/software/firmware compatible.
As we all very well know from the few years of tampering with these Y580s, the BIOS can't simply just be rolled back. But I figured there had to be a way. After googling around for some time, I ended up trying a few different things; editing the Config file for the earlier version of the Bios (which just resulted in another error and locked up the keyboard and mouse), I tried booting the BIOS image from a USB, but to no avail (I tried both booting from USB and also a force BIOS update, using the fn+B method, which I realize I may be doing incorrectly, as I am not entirely sure what I should name the ROM file... I can't boot windows to use ANDYSTOOL, so I named a bunch of different ROM files with different names that have worked for other people) ... so on and so forth...
The last thing I've tried was Restoring the BIOS to factory settings (within the BIOS) and now the computer will not boot windows. The Lenovo screen Posts, and Windows starts to load, freezes a moment, Blue Screens for a second, then reboots, saying that there is an issue with either Hardware or software, and gives me he option to either boot windows normally (which just results in the same thing again) or to run an automatic repair. I tried the automatic repair and it just sits on the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen, and will do so for hours with no progress.

I had to re-install Windows after a hacker locked my system. I hadn't had the unit long, so didn't lose tons of important data or files. But, I hadn't had time to really get to know my system either....so now I have the new issue of trying to determine what all the hardware is that is not recognized. I thought I would come to hp.com, find my drivers, download and be DONE.
(HP ProBook 4440S running WIndows Home Premium, 34 Bit)
I have yellow exclamation marks on the following devices in Device Manager:
1. Base System Device
2. Base System Device
3. Ethernet Controller
4> Network Controller
5. PCI Simple Com Device
6. USB Controller
7. Unknown Device
If there weren't SO MANY drivers, this could be simple!

Having some troubles with my X220 and windows 8.1 and fast startup.
It has been working flawlessly for a few months now with Windows 8 and an SSD but has recently decided it does not want to fast startup - every time I try and boot with the feature enabled the laptop immediately shuts off completely after the boot animation. On pressing the power button again the laptop boots 'normally' i.e. at 'normal' startup speed.
I've tried disabling the feature, using the 'powercfg -h off' and 'powercfg -h on' commands to recreate hiberfil.sys and enabling it again, which worked at first but now it has started having the problem again and this no longer works.
