View 6 RepliesI've owned and used dozens of laptops in my day, but never have I come across a keyboard that refuses to let me have the key. Usually I can wedge my fingernail in under both sides of the key and just "pop" it off .....
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been wanting to clean any residue that's built up under the keyboard the past few months: dust, hair, crumbs, whatever else that may have slipped by despite how careful I try to be with letting debris in. A friend that cleaned my old Toshiba would 'pop' the keys out, but that ended up breaking/loosening some hinges later on, and I would prefer not to have send his laptop to Dell for such a silly reason.
Is there any 'easy' way to this? I'm assuming the safest way would be to unscrew the back and locate the area beneath the keyboard?
I have a M1730. The Ctrl key fell off from my keyboard and I dont how to keep it back in the keyboard. Its not broken but it just came out.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently had my laptop apart to put different thermal paste on the cpu, but now my backlighting isnt working for the keyboard. does that little ribbon cable control that? Its kinda hard to get it to stay attached. If not then is this a normal thing for these keyboard lights to go bad?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am starting to like the my new M1730. My favorite feature about this laptop is the light up keyboard. I never thought it would be that nice to have a light up keyboard but here I am in the dark while I am on my 360 typing away and I am actually able to see the keyboard without having to aim the screen at it
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering how hard it would be to add different colored LEDs under the keys. I have a feeling it wouldn't be possible to add multiple different colors, like in the speakers, so what I was thinking was simply 7 or so colors, mixed and matched under each key to look prettier

View 6 Replies View RelatedFrom what I've read around here the black keyboard on the Dell Vostro 1400 (PN JM629) fits on the XPS m1330 and now I'm looking to buy it.
The problem is, this keyboard costs $49.99 on Dell. I have found it on ebay for $16 shipped on ebay, but the thing is, the ebay listing says:
"New high quality keyboard
100% manufacturer compatible
Equivalent Replacement Part"
I've had my MBP for about 4 month now and have been having problems with its keyboard since I bought it. First, the "Z" key sank in (I think there was a problem with the spring). I took it to the Apple Store, and they "fixed" on the spot (it's much harder to press and only registered a key press 70% of the time). The lower right corner of the "E" has noticeably sunk in, and I need to resort to pressing the upper left corner. Also, the left side of the keyboard feels "mushy", not hugely so, but definitely noticeable after typing a few sentences. Can I request that Apple just replace the entire keyboard instead of just individual keys?

Is it possible to change the Acer 1810T keyboard to a thinkpad one?
Are they the same size? Could it work?
I love the Acer, just not its keyboard and miss the thinkpad keyboard - which really encourages typing. The acer really doesn't.
If the thinkpad keyboard isn't possible, what else might be?
I currently have an AA1 and am curious to those who tried typing on both the HP Mini and the AA1 keyboards and noticed a difference. I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).

I have a few questions regarding a clean install ..........
Im running vista 64 home premium and want to use my upgrade discs to get to win 7.
If i want to delete the recovery partition when do i do it? Is the best process to back up my files and then do a recovery back to vistas original state when i first got the machine and them delete the recovery partition?
Then put in the win7 upgrade dvd? Can i merge the recovery partition with the main one in vista after to delete it?
Upon receiving my new Latitude XT2, per the usual, I'd like to perform a clean install of Windows Vista Business.
However, with Dell's ControlPoint software, I'm unsure of the best way to do this.
Those of you with a new Latitude, how did you go about a clean install? More specifically, how did you handle the Dell Control Point software?
Also, what exactly is "Control Vault" and what is it used for?
How well will the E6400 work without the dell DCP software installed. I've had the E6400 only two weeks and thinking of wiping the OS and installing Win 7 again with only the necessary drivers, without all the Dell software. The machine was using over 3.1 gigs of RAM yesterday and there was NOTHING running on the taskbar. Looked at the process list and there was no one process that was consuming my RAM, I was getting nickel and dimed by all the processes that are running. DCP seemed to be a big consumer as well as CPU time.
TIA
I ordered one a few days ago and opted out of getting an antivirus as well as any microsoft office products.
That being said, do you guys think a clean install of vista is necessary on a new SXPS 16?
If it is, is following this http://support.dell.com/support/topi...t?docid=339949 a good way of doing it?
I’m thinking of doing a clean install on my M1530, and im just trying to decide which options to go for, and which not to.
I will be installing Vista Ultimate. I mainly use the computer for internet surfing, watching films, using Microsoft office, and gaming (Fallout 3, Call of Duty 4 etc.).
The main things I am trying to decide are:
Should I install Mediadirect?
As far as I can see the only advantage of this is getting slightly more (can anyone confirm how much?) battery life whilst watching films on the go. I mainly watch films whilst connected to power, but this could be useful in the future.32 or 64 bit?
I have previously been running 32 bit, but would be more than happy to jump on the 64 bit bandwagon, as I have heard that it’s slightly snappier, and also my 4 gigs of ram would be put to full use. Would there be any compatibility issues with any of my games etc? Would appreciate some info on this. It could lead on to...Dual-boot?
Could have vista 32 and 64 dual booted? Or another thing that took my fancy was perhaps throwing on opensuse? I’m going to open a new thread regarding the battery life etc that this would give to try and decide if its for me,
friends how to do a clean install..i installed using the os dvd they have given me but there is still the windows.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just received my 64 bit cd from dell today and am pretty anxious to get it up and running.
Just checking in to see if there are any important things to note before I start.
Dell is sending me a replacement SXPS16 (the 4th one. The previous 3 have been SXPS13's that have all been defective).
I genuinely hated all the bloatware on the 13's, so would you guys advise doing a fresh install on the 16?
The computer comes with the proper disc to do that, right?
I am concerned, however, as to the shear amount of Dell apps that are pre installed on the 1640 boot partition. I want to keep the dock for ex. ..I know from experience the order in what is installed as well as what is on my utlis disc is important. So-
1. Has anyone already done this install? Would LOVE your feedback.
2.If not what is the consensus in this forum for such an install. ie order of drivers, etc.
I have a Studio 15 (1535) and did a clean install with Windows 7 (32 bit) and now I'm in the process of reinstalling my programs.
I used Windows 7 Easy Transfer so I can keep track on what needs to be installed and boy this program is slick.
I didn't install all the Dell software that came with the computer but selected what I wanted
Considering doing a clean install of XP Pro on my Windows partition in order to purge my E6400 of all the Dell and other party bloatware and start from scratch.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI got my e6500 thursday and I have been playing around with it during this weekend. Reinstalled it like 5 times
First impressions of this laptop that it sure is made with good materials.
Now for my questions. Since I reformated my harddrive I lost that dell bla bla installation when you press F8 during boot. Can I make such a partition by my self?
Do anybody have some kinda HOW TO or WHAT TO install first?
What antivirus should I use. I tried PANDA during weekend but it was totally buggy.
The lights on this laptop in the upper left corner, I just get the wifi lamp and bluetooth lamp to light up. What is the lamp to the right of the blue tooth lamp for?
The dell driver for profiles due different networks is a total mess for me. If somebody here knows how I should install it please let me know.

It has been a while since I have read this forum and I've had this XPS Gen 2 laptop for a couple of years and am happy with it.
I remember a while back there was a very detailed thread that told of how to do a Clean Install of Win XP for the technically impaired.
Can any experienced friend suggest me what should I use to clean my Dell XPS 1645 Laptop Screen.
Like what and which wipes and from where I can order them etc..
