Dec 17, 2009Just purchased a 1555 with the radeon 4570 512mb GPU, Windows 7 64-bit, and performance is generally very good apart from one strange result. Windows experience index reports the following -
Processor - 5.7
Memory - 5.8
Graphics - 4.9
Gaming Graphics - 6.3
hard disk - 5.9
So the only low result is the desktop aero graphics performance at 4.9, which seems strange when the 3D businnes/gaming graphics score is 6.3. Other results i've seen posted on forums of the Windows 7 WEI scores are usually the same for desktop graphics and 3D graphics in Windows 7, which I would have expected as I understood that aero uses the GPU similarly to games. If anything, it looked like in most results the desktop graphics scores were slightly higher than the gaming graphics scores.
Does anyone know why I could be getting a lot lower desktop graphics score compared to gaming graphics?
I've checked the graphics drivers are up to date.
Can anybody else post their Windows 7 WEI scores from the 1555 with the 4570 512mb GPU?

Aug 5, 2011I bought a Dell XPS 15 (L502X) laptop 2 weeks ago and have found a lot of trouble with it. It is an i7, 8gb ram with the nvidia 540m video card.
I have tried 3 different games, Left 4 Dead, League of Legends and Dragon Nest, and it crashes/freezes in all 3 games. You are able to run the game in high graphics however, it will crash in a shorter amount of time. If you put it on lowest quality, it still crashes, but it tends to take a longer time.
Things that I have tried.
- Old Drivers, New drivers, drivers from the dell site, drivers from nvidia, beta drivers
- driver sweeper
- changing the gpu to nvidia high performance instead of integrated graphics for the different games and programs
- changing the physx hardware to nvidia 540m
- set battery to high performance
- dell tech support, all they did was change integrated to nvidia high performance and change one setting in hopes of fixing the issue as well as using the system scan for issues, the report came back as passed and no issues.
And today while I was messing around with the settings, I have found a mediocre alternative to this problem. If you simply never use the nvidia GPU then there will never be a crash. You simply do everything with your integrated card. You will be able to run a game like League of Legends on Normal settings at best. However if you do this, it is as if you wasted all your money to get the nvidia 540m that simply does not work.
Dell XPS 17 L702x :: Extremely Hot Case During Game Play
Jun 8, 2012My problem is that the laptop is getting extremely hot on the left side of keyboard during any games i play, even older games. I literally cannot rest my left hand to use keyboard as it is frying it.
When i initially bought the laptop 4 months ago I could play those games and the case (keyboard area including) would stay perfectly cool. I had even played need for speed hot pursuit new with full graphics and laptop was cool.
There is a definite massive difference in case temperature between initial month or so and recently.
HW monitor program recorded temperatures of 85 degrees max for i5 processor, and around 72-78 degrees on graphics card during game play on a variety of games old and new.
Worth to mention that during other lightweight activities, such as surfing etc the laptop is cool.
Dell XPS L702x :: Slowed Down When Playing Video Online Or Play Game
Feb 4, 2013My XPS L702x recently slows down when i play video online or play game. My configuration is: i7 2630QM, GT555M, 6 GB.i played video online and played game ( Skyrim, COD, A.V.A online) smoothly. But for 2, 3 months ago, my laptop slows down and spikes very much. When i watch video online, the screen will freeze 3 to 8 seconds but the sound is still playing. And all games that have run smoothly before, now they lagged too much, for example in Skyrim, when i start a conversation with a NPC, the game will freezes 2,3 seconds, and in the combat it freezes everytime when there's a sound is played (i.e screams, sound of sword slashing, footstep).
I have Microsoft Security Ess, no Semantec, Kaspersky, Norton ... And i have re-installed the Win 7 ultimate, but nothing is fixed, i've updated all my drivers, BIOS, Graphic card, sound card, wifi.i can't do anything with my laptop now, even opening Google Chrome is not easy. I'm really stressed.My battery is broken, i use my laptop on AC adapter only, perhaps this is the cause but i don't think so. Because i have a HP Pavillion and the battery is out too, but the HP is not slowing down.

Dec 17, 2007i have a dell inspiron 1505 notebook. I bought it new about 1 year ago, i had it upgraded from dell with the 1.86 core 2 duo processor 1 gb of ram and a 128 ati x1300 mobility graphics card. 1 year ago most games only required a 128mb card which was fine, but now most seem to run on 256, there was a 256 option from dell for another 80 dollars on top of the other upgrade fee i already paid and i did not think it was necessary. So i know there is one out there. I have searched around on the internet for a while off and on and i can only find reviews of products i can not find any info on where you can actually buy an upgrade for this computer... I would like to get it upgraded to the 256 if it would not be too much. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
And also i play Battlefield 2142 occasionally and it had a freezing issue on the load screen so i dropped the graphic settings down a bit then it worked fine. But it has happened again, and i dropped the settings down as far as they can go with no luck it still does not work, and the EA tech told me to look for an update for my graphics card which i did and installed one that said it fixed "some gaming issues" but it did not fix the freezing issue.

Mar 19, 2009i recently bought a Dell studio 1555, i have been using it for 10 days now and just yeterday i installed tom clancy's HAWX on it, after 5 minutes of playing the game it froze (crashed) and the screen turned from white to purple to other colours untill it went back to white... i thought it was the game so i tried playing COD 4, COD 5, Rainbow six V2, GRAW 2 and Far cry 2......they all run smoothly on high/medium graphics settings......but after a couple of minutes like 4 or 5 it crashes and the screen goes white and then fades from white to blue to purple then white.
the specifications of my laptop are as follows
-P8600 2.4ghz core 2 duo
-3GB RAM
-512mb dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
-320GB 7200rpm HDD
the problem only happens whenever i play games for a few minutes!
Dell :: Studio XPS 13 NVIDIA G210M Game Crashes
Feb 18, 2010I recently purchased a Studio XPS 13 (a month ago), and since the beginning, I've noticed that every time I run a game on high performance (g210m + 9400mg), the game either crashes or gets stuck. At the same settings, if I run the game in normal mode (9400 mg), it usually works fine. The settings are medium-low, never high. I really can't understand why this happens. Isn't the G210M supposed to make things better? is it a problem with the drivers? I have all the latest drivers updated from the Dell site. or is this a problem with my hardware? really worried and unfortunately I don't know a whole lot about computers.
The games I've run so far are COD4, COD6 and NFS Shift. They are all ripped copies.

Left 4 dead- Medium/high at 1280 by 800 resolution. I have everything on high besides shadows, which i set to medium, and I tuned download AA to 2x. Antrofic filter is on 16x. It runs around 20-35 fps. Average around 30 .....

Jan 2, 2010I recently installed win7 on my new studio 17 (1737) and since then the drive doesn't seem to recognise the discs as blu-rays, with powerDVD bringing up "there is a disc with an unsupported format in drive (F".
It worked fine beforehand, with whatever version of powerDVD that came pre-loaded, but after it won't play on any version.
It was a clean install of win7 (x64), and I've downloaded the updated firmware for the drive from the dell site (it's the CA10N, think it's LG-ish).....

Feb 21, 2009my laptop's temperatures are reaching too high while playing games. i was playing burnout paradise and simultaneously hw monitor was also running. the max temp of both cores reached 89c and of gpu 91c and acpi was 94c. are these temperatures normal of are they too high??plz suggest me what to do...i have also attached the photo of the temperatures recorded....

Jan 4, 2010I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Studio XPS 16 and everything is working except I can't play DVDs.
I installed the latest firmware for the DVD and got sound but no video.
I have also installed the latest ATI drivers and chipset with no luck.
Device Manager shows the driver for the monitory is a generic pnp monitor and I cannot set the resolution of the monitor above 1024 x 768. So, I am assuming that my problem is either the monitor driver and/or the ATI driver.

Wondering if these temps are acceptable in a laptop or not?
Temps idling 3-10% cpu = 57-67C
Fan feels the need to go into hairdryer mode every 5 minutes or so to bring the temp down a few C.
under load core 1 + 2 = 100%
core 1 = 88-90C
core2 = 90-92C
Also i will add this is currently in a very cold room.
would you say these are acceptable temps or not?
also not overly impressed with the build quality. keyboard bezel popping out in certain sections after 4 months.

I've recently bought a dell studio 15. It's got a tsstcorp dvd +-rw ts-t633a ata, Radeon hd3400 and high definition sound devices..... yet I tried to play a hd dvd and the dvd player just kept ejecting the dvd and couldn't play it.

Jul 16, 2009I can't get Vista Business x64 to recognize the graphics driver. Both Catalyst and XtremeG install fine,
but when I reboot the highest resolution I have is 1400x1050 and Windows only displays 'Standard VGA graphics adapter' in device manager.
Is this a common problem or do I need to do something else? I know the XPS m1330 had a quirk where you needed to install the SATA driver before installing windows which had me baffled for hours...

Sep 13, 2009I recently purchased a Dell Studio 1737 for mainly college, everything about this laptop is great, except the graphics card, the infamous Intel Media Accelerator.
I would like to know if there's anyway to replace, or would I have to get another motherboard to replace it, and if I have to replace it I would like to know a estimate of how much it would be,
and personally I would like a high end Nvidia card =], not so much ATI.

Oct 12, 2009Dell is offering driver version 8.631.0.0000 (A09) for the mobility radeon 4570HD on their site.
I'm currently running modded catalyst 9.9 and the current driver installed is 8.632.1.2000.
Any reason I should use the Dell driver in this case or should I just keep on using the modded AMD one (which will probably be updated on a more regular basis)?

The are NVidia version 178.75 and should help with stability when using Hybrid SLI.
