I bought a Y500 a few months ago and I bought a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD along with it. Mine didn't come with the 16GB mSATA SSD for caching so I decided to replace the original 1TB HDD with a 256GB SSD. I also had a copy of Windows 8 Professional that I bought for my desktop. Since I wasn't using my desktop anymore I decided to move 8 Pro to the Y500. And it wouldn't let me format and reinstall, I'd get an error saying "The product key does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key."
I cloned my HDD on to an SSD with Acronis True Image Home. Then I stuck the SSD in my laptop and then selected repair my computer after booting into the 8 Pro disc. And from there I selected the option to reset my PC. Then once it reset it became extremely fast and stuff. And from the add features to Windows 8 option I entered the Productkey I got with 8 Pro and it allowed me to upgrade. Then once the 8.1 update came out I updated immediately.
Now for the last few days my laptop has been getting laggy. So I decided to reset it again. And now when I try to it says that the required recovery partition is missing, I don't recall deleting any of the partitions I cloned the drive perfectly and had also been able to reset it once before. Anyway, now my 1TB HDD is inside my PS3 and I'm stuck with a laggy Y500 that takes 20 seconds to boot up on an SSD and I'm trying to figure out a way out of this mess. Is it possible to get recovery discs?. My Y500 is the model that has a single NVIDIA 2GB GT750 and an intel core i7 3632QM.
I bought an Acer Aspire 5520 few years ago. It has a partition with Windows Vista installed on that. Unfortunately that partition is deleted completely so I can not recover my laptop to its factory setting.
Is there anyway that I can install that original windows Vista again? I looked behind my laptop and there is a label with a product key. Is that useful?
Manufacturer had given inbuilt windows 7 operating system which start by pressing F11 at boot.
At the time of installing external operating system through DVD, I unfortunately, by mistake I deleted all existing partition, I think, I deleted that partition which contain inbuilt OS in hard drive.
Now I am willing to install inbuilt OS by pressing F11, but this way not working. How I can install inbuilt windows 7 operating system just as previous start from by pressing F11 at boot.
By mistake during resizing I deleted OEM partiton which stored One Key Recovery and want it back now. I googled a lot and read about setting partition id but since the partition is entirely deleted it doesnt even work after setting partiton id. I have s210 Touch and One kEy Recovery 8..
I was installing Linux and by mistake I wiped out the entire disk inclusing the recovery partition with windows 8 installation stuff !! Do you know if it there is any way to get it back, downlading it from somewhere and installing ? I searched on the Lenovo website but didn't find any clue....

I am working on a Dell Inspron N7010 and have tried to use the Factory Image, but it seems to be gone.
In the D: drive, I find the Windows OS, in the C Drive I find nothing. All other drives are as they should be. The Factory Image is either deleted or corrupted. How can I get a copy of this ?
laptop inspiron 3520 deleted all recover system because unable to recover the OS..due to a malware attack which locked my laptop totally wiped out all the data in hard disk tried all the ways to recover. restore points..dell local safe backup..nothing worked out system recover nothing worked..finally lost the factory state of the laptop.hard disk is empty now.can the Dell recover my laptop back to factory state..? can dell provide me the windows 7 OS ... ?
I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 purchased about 2 and a half years ago. I was just deleting some random programs which I don't ever use, and accidentally clicked on uninstall Dell Data Safe Local Back up.
How to reinstall it? I tried to do so by clicking this link [URL] .... but it just came up with an error message.
I have 4 partitions on my disk as shown in Disk Management. I don't use hibernation, so I want to reclaim the 8GB partition for use as storage. I have a few questions regarding this.
1) What will I compromise if I remove the 8GB partition, other than hibernation?
2) I right-clicked on the OS partition and selected "Shrink Volume". I received the popup shown in the attached image below. It doesn't reflect anything about returning the 8GB partition to the OS partition. In fact, shrinking goes against my intention of expanding the OS partition to include the 8GB. Right-clicking on the 8GB partition only brings up "Help" in the context menu and is not shrinkable.
3) Can I do this any time after having used the laptop for a while, with data and programs already installed? Does the process affect existing files and installations?
Just brought home a Dell Inspiron 15 from Best Buy tonight. While going through Windows Explorer and trying to figure out the goofy "Libraries" thing for Windows 7, I noticed that my hard drive is partitioned like so:
OS (C): 38.4GB free of 58.5GB Local Disk (D): 186Gb free of 229GB
Now I am always used to everything being on 'C'. When I tried to copy all my stuff over from my previous Dell 1420, it wouldn't all copy over to any of the libraries or my "user" folder (Erin) since I didn't have enough space. So despite Windows 7 setting up all these nifty folders in my "Erin" folder (C:/Users), I can't fit all my stuff there.
Is Dell partitioning their hard-drives differently? Am I nuts for thinking mine is set up weird?
Could not boot into recovery mode, launch the command prompt and run the following, bcdedit /enum all? I have a friends Dell 1545 and I think the Boot Manager/Loader is screwed up b/c it is not booting into recovery. I can boot to the Windows 7 OS, but we need to do a factory restore because of a nasty virus she has.
I wanted to view the actual contents of the drive. Using hiren boot cd I have opened Norton Partition Magic Pro Server. An error message popped up. "Norton Magic Pro Server has detected an error110 on the partition starting at sector 258048 on disk 1.
The length of the partition in the partition table is incorrect. The CHS length is 19148472, the LBA length is 19132416, and the file system lenght is 19132415.
Norton Magic Pro Server has determined that the length can be changed to the correct value of 19148472
I bought a Dell Inspiron N5110 last year. I created two more partitions on my hard drive. Now I want to restore my windows to factory settings, but I cannot go through the restore process.
I am quite sure that the restore partition is physically on the hard drive, but maybe because of creating new partition it cannot find the drive, or the restore program looks to wrong partition. How can I recover with the current conditions.
The UEFI thing screwed my head a bit while trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 in Dell 7520, I made separate partition in Windows 8, installed Ubuntu via liveUSB it went well, but Ubuntu didn't load. So, I hit the Ubuntu install again, it asked me to erase previous Ubuntu, I said yes, now the Ubuntu 12.10 works perfectly.
I used boot-repair to repair the GRUB as suggested in some answers in askubuntu, and when I reboot, there was no option for windows 8. I booted to Ubuntu to check the Ubuntu have used whole 1 TB (total space). That means I deleted windows ? If so, any way to get the setup back? I don't have repair disk, nor DVD. Win8 came pre-installed.
I use Windows for windows mobile app development and Ubuntu for Normal use.
This is my new laptop, just purchased today, but this secure bios thing screwed all the fun of using multiple OS.
My uncle has a Dell Inspiron 1545 with 3Gb RAM, 160 Gb HD and Windows Vista Home Premium. On boot up there is an error message stating that a back up should be performed immediately as the hard drive has a serious problem.
The good news is that I managed to make a clone of the 160 Gb HD to a 1000 Gb HD (Western Digital Blue) using Paragon software before the original drive failed. The bad news is that the cloning process stopped at 42%, but this 42% included the recovery partition and another part of the HD called Dell Utility.
I installed the cloned WD drive and pressed F8 on boot up, but the advanced boot menu did not appear. Instead I get the error message 'no bootable devices'.
I ran the diagnostics program using F5. All the tests were completed and 'passed'. The BIOS recognizes the new drive as 1000 Gb.
Question: how do I boot the laptop? My uncle does not have any recovery media.
I have an Inspiron 1750 that will not recognize the hard drive. I have done the on-board diagnostics and the preboot assessment says that no diagnostic utility partition identified. I am hoping that I just need to replace the hard drive, but I did not make a restore disc before it crashed. Which of the drivers I need to restore the computer to it's factory settings.
I deleted my 3 printers last night thought I was only deleting 1 and then I was going to reinstall the same printer because it didn't work anymore for some unknown reason so when I went to delete it erased all of them, now I can't find it on the home network at all in Mac but I find it in Vista , I have a problem I'm somewhat new to this mac stuff but I do know how to look for the printers but when it searched it didn't come up with any printer
I went through and cleaned out all the media and whatnots I wanted to save before a system reformat. So I popped in the XP install disc and restarted my ACER ASPIRE 1520.
I came to the blue XP install screen ... pressed F8 to agree like a good boy and then came to the hard drive partitions.
to my surprise not only did I have hard drive partitions C and D but also a hd partition called
" :- eisa tools "
I thought to myself "I do not remember seeing that before"
so after weighing my assumptions for a couple of mintues I thought "eh, i'll delete it and reinstall THEN deal with the issues if they pop up" ... part of me was still saying "dont do it, DONT DO IT"
so I did it ... deleted all 3 partitions and then created 2 new partitions. I then selected which partition I wanted to install XP on and came to the NTFS or FAT format screen ...
I selected NTFS and *blip* ... the computer shut off. So I turned it back on after checking the power adapter and making sure everything was secure, it was.
After the computer going *blip* and shutting off at various points in the course of the XP install blue screen (non further along than the NTFS format section) I then decided to go into BIOS.
So I restarted the computer , pressed F2 to get into bios and I did .......
