My Studio 1555 is not passing post startup. It will pass the Dell splash screen with a lot of beeps that I cannot identify, but afterwards, will get stuck with a black screen and a flashing underscore icon at the top left corner. What are some possible problems/fixes/tests? I'm wondering if its time I bought a new laptop. What are the chances of my hard driving still being okay?
as of 2 hours ago my high speed has been stuck at 1 Mbps, much slower then its usual 65+ that I've had over the last 6 days since I got my laptop.
I'm thinking I may have received a faulty wireless card, since when I checked my wired desktop downstairs it's still at it's usual 100Mbps, and my sisters Inspiron 1420 has its normal high speed.
Now when I restart my wireless adapter (Intel 5100) the speed fluctuates between 4-38 Mbps for about a minute before dropping- and staying at 1 Mbps once again.
I checked if there are any computers stealing my wireless connection just in case, and as I thought no one is .....
I have a 4 year old Dell which I have had cleaned and maintained by Dell services in order to keep temperatures and hardware in check.
However, I am constantly experiencing an "Event" according to Event viewer, or "Event 6008". What it says is "Computer shutdown at X time unexpectedly."
I have monitored temperatures, have all latest drivers for all components, yet I continually get the same crash. The computer goes completely off, no bluescreen, no error. I used "Who Crashed" in an attempt to record a dump file, but it keeps coming empty.
The error/crash occurs only during games, some more frequent than others. I have tried all possible options for those games, low to high settings/resolutions/etc, no background programs running - no difference.Â
Some days, the error/crash occurs more rarely when unplugged and running on battery(which don't last more than an hour), and once I plug it in to charge it, it starts crashing in a few minutes.
It is also running Windows 7 64-bit, upgraded from the stock Vista(where the error/crash also kept occuring).
The laptop is a Dell Studio 1555(the widescreen version). I took it to one of Dell's shop for them to "fix it", tho after running all their stress tests they told me there is nothing wrong with the computer. So 7 completely different games crash the computer, but Dell's stress tests fail to identify what is wrong with it?Â
When I logon to Win7 it hangs at 'welcome' for quite a while, then goes to desktop and has the loading cursor while my desktop icons load, then my antivirus loads.
It isn't crazy slow, it is just a lot slower than my M1530 which was instant. Am I just noticing the difference between my 5400rpm drive and my old 7200rpm drive? Is it a significant difference? I will be poppin in another WD Scorpio Black
So lately (the last few days, just out of nowhere) I've been starting to have a problem with an XPS m1330. Every now and again the notebook starts Windows
A lot of the times it doesn't go past the welcome screen (after entering the user password etc.)
If it does get past the welcome screen it just is extremely slow for the first 5-7min then, it's normal again .....
I've had a Vostro for a couple months now and continue to be plagued by slow startup times of 2-3 minutes. Just as a frame of reference, I have 3 systems: a desktop I built, a Latitude E6400 and the Vostro. All have similar specs - a Core2Quad on the desktop, a dual-core Centrino on the Latitude and a Core i5 on the Vostro; each with 4GB RAM. I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and the same software on each of the machines - if anything, the Vostro has LESS software on it than the other 2. I downloaded all the drivers directly from this site.
At first I thought the startup time was slow due to a 5400 RPM hard drive, but last night I replaced it with a 7200 RPM (though not a fresh install - I took an image of the existing installation using imagex and applied it to the new drive) and it's still slow to boot. I turned off some programs and services in msconfig and using Revo and CCleaner and still get similar results.
Just now I turned both laptops on simultaneously to make sure I'm not making a big deal out of it (especially since the Vostro goes straight to desktop and the Latitude requires me to enter credentials) and I still got to my Latitude's desktop first - despite having to re-enter the password a couple of times!
I'll note that this is the only time the Vostro feels slow at all. Once I'm in everything runs smoothly and resuming from hibernate is noticeably faster (reasonably so I suppose)....
A week or two ago my Studio XPS 16 use to boot up fairly quickly, but now it takes about 3-4 minutes to boot up from shut down.
The only things I have running at startup are Zonealarm, Skype, Dell Touchpad, NOD32 Antivirus, and Dell Quickset. I'm running Vista 64-bit. Has anyone else experienced slow boot times with their SXPS 16?
I have dell inspiron 15R, 1TB HDD, i7 processor, windows 8.1. My C drive has 500GB(approx) memory out of which 200GB(approx) is free
It used to work fast but suddenly it became very slow. I tried restarting , it got shut down but was unable to start. So I ran diagnostic test which gave an error in hard disk with error code :2000-0142. Â The next morning I ran the diagnostic test again and it ran successfully without any error.
I formatted it from my recovery disk and it took me almost whole night as the formatting process was also very slow. My laptop still works very slow. It takes almost 15mins for start-up and my applications are also opening too slow.
any specific reason to that...cuz i had a single core processor and it would start vista faster but this is c2d and still slower than that at startup.....
I have bought a MB alu 2.0GHz + 2Gb RAM DDR3 and I have noted that sometimes the boot time is longer in the morning or after a long s/d (more than 6hrs for instance) than after a 2-3 hrs s/d. Indeed the cold startup takes around 43-45sec whilst the 'warm' start may take about 32-35sec. Does this happen to you too?
2nd question: what do you think about ONYX? Is it worth making this automation or it is better to abandon these pc-attitudes on a mac?
who came across with slow start up and sleep issues in windows 8.1. ( Dell Inspiron 15-3537).I recently upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1. After installing all the drivers found that fast start up not working and laptop does not awake from "sleep" state.
Actually reinstalling the Intel Video driver solved the problem. When I was going to install video driver, it was said that a newer version is already installed. However neglected that and downgraded the video driver. that 8.1 is faster than 8.you install the latest driver given in dell website.
It's been a year I've been using Lenovo p500. It works great, but recently the startup has been really slow. it takes around 3-4 minutes sometimes. Is there any way to improvise the performance? Â Does "Bios Update" solve the problem??
I have recently bought laptop acer aspire 6930 g with following features Processor intel core 2 duo t6400 2ghz 2mb cash Ram 4gb ddr2.
Hard disk 1000gb ( 2 hard each one 500gb) and preloaded vista home premium and nividia 9600m gt 1gb ddr2.
And i notice that my laptop take too long boot time in compare with my friend laptop Dell inspiron 1525 with 1.6 pantium dual core processor and 2gb ddr2 ram and 160 gb hard disk and windows vista ultimate..so is there something wrong with my laptop and how can i speed up boot time and do u think that i can play games like crysis and call of duty 4 and GTA 4 on it?
Purchased from Amazon 2 months ago and worked perfectly without a hitch until a few days ago when I got on the receiving end of the win8 equivalent of the BSOD with the . From them on I ended up with slow boots random pauses etc. I opted to refresh the PC without affecting any files but toward the end of the reinstall the BSOD appears and now all I had was a black background with only a white cursor.  Left that for over a hour, nothing happened so held down the power button to force shutdown. Found that Z500 no longer boots into win8 so eventually decided to do a clean reinstall with the onekeyrecovery via NOVO button. This should have been the end of all the problem I was having but unbelievably the problem is still there.  Research what I could about this and found that the slow boot is caused by hard disk constantly being thrashed about by a system file ntoskrnl.exe. I tried updating the wifi driver and it appeared to have done the trick until the next day when I booted up the system again. It appear that the constant hd activity goes away after a few hours of leaving the PC on.  Anyway I have drawn a blank as to what's going on especially as everything was working perfectly until up to that point with no signs of system conflict.
I've been reading the threads for a while and wanted to get some more opinions on the 1555 vs SSE. I know the SSE is basically the 1537 with the edge to edge monitor.
I placed my order for the SSE last week with an estimated delivery date of 6/15 I could cancel my order and go with the 1555 with an estimated ship date of 6/01. what do you think. I have ~$1000 to play with ......
I am about to order a Dell Studio 1555 tomorrow. It is a graduation present and I plan to be using it (hopefully) for all of college..........................
I got it in November, sometimes when i go to ANY of my browsers to view pages with flash. The whole browser freezes and crashes, so i start it up again and go to the page, and crash again.. so i try to use another browser (i literally have chrome, Firefox, safari and IE) all of them do the same exact thing.. and once it crashes there's no way to get it back up unless you restart. It gets very annoying having to restart my laptop about 5 times a day. I've done everything, uninstalling flash player, reinstalling it, reinstalling browsers.. I've even reinstalled my OS because nothing else would work. I don't understand why this laptop has so many issues. Randomly freezes, crashes etc. Its basically brand new and i shouldn't have these issues. My old Compaq presario cq60-215dx NEVER ever did any of these thing this Studio laptop does. This laptop is about 400 dollars more than my Compaq.. Also, i dual booted Vista and Windows 7 and Vista is a hell of a lot faster, it boots up faster and never crashes.. It just seems as if Dell did something to this OS to make it a piece.. help?
I just received my new Studio 1555 with Core2 P8600, 4GB RAM, Windows7 64Bit.
It freezes up on me at lease twice daily. I can't spot the problem, it has froze once when using excel, many times watching youtube videos and once using a tax software.
Everything just hangs and freezes. Can't do anything, have to hold the power button down. A few times when youtube froze, the sound stayed but in a frozen state.
What can it be?
Dell sent me some additional ram to upgrade to 8GB but that hasn't helped.
I have updated all drivers.
Please help. I'm tired of waiting on the phone and going through with Dell for hours and hours.
On first look i found that the build quality was better than expected, I had read a fiew reviews by owners that thebase was flimsy and so was the keyboard. I have found this to be quite solid and i can see no flex at all. The keyboard is very responsive and a pleasure to use, although i find that some of the keys give a slight squeeking noise when pressed. I intend to get a backlit keyboard sometime soon so that should fix the squeeking problem. I bought this from the outlet as refurbished but it looks brand new and i saved nearly £300 this way instead of self configuring the system. What's in the Box: Dell Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit installation dvd, Works 9, Driver and Resource Disk, 90w Power Supply Design Nice design and a sturdy construction, has a kind of wedge shape. Screen: This WLED 720p screen is far brighter than anything else i have ever seen, the picture is nice and crisp and colours are very vibrant. There is no ghosting at all and HD movies are a pleasure to watch on this, its a 15.6" 16:9. There is an option for a 1080p screen but i did not have that option getting this from the Outlet. Under sunny conditions the screen is quite reflective but i plan to use it indoors 95% of the time so it will not be an issue. Keyboard The keyboard is a pleasure to use, I did not get a backlit version but i intend to as soon as I can get dell on the phone, I find the keys very responsive and well laid out. The multimedia keys are on the top of the keyboard along with the F Keys, to use the F1 Keys ect you have to press the Fn key. Touchpad At first i did not like the touch pad as it has a textured feeling and not a smooth finish like im used to , after a while i have got used to it and its not as bad as i first thought, there is a scroll pad on the side although the touch pad has no indication of this, when playing games this area gets quite hot. Features: Multimedia Keys The keys are on the main keyboard and shared with the "F" Keys. LEDS One of my main complaints abot this machine is there are no LEDS for hard drive activity or wireless ect. The only light is on the power button on the side of the screen hinge. Wifi – My system has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN card and the signals are strong and i have not suffered any drop outs or interference. Just a pity this laptop has no Wireless LED. Speakers The speakers are of a decent quality, i had read about the previous Studio 15 which had poor sound quality but this is more than acceptable and a subwoofer is included. Input and Output Ports Front There are no ports on the front of the machine Webcam Pictures The screen has a 2.0mp camera in and the quality is very good, the best i have seen in a laptop. Pictures are good with no noise or distortion. Right Side: 1 x USB 2.0, Slot loading DVD-RW Drive 8 in 1 media card reader, ExpressCard 34 and Power Adaptor Left Side: VGA, HDMI 2x USB 2.0 (1x USB/E-SATA combo, 2x standard) IEEE 1394a/Gigabit NIC (no RJ11 – via dongle for USB External Modem) 1x Stereo in, 2x headphone speaker out. Rear: There are no ports on the back. Bottom: There are 3 ventilation grills and the usual opening for the memory and Hard drive access. Benchmarks I have had time to do 2 benchmarks, 3dmark06 and Super PI 3dmark Vantage would not run with the resolution on this laptop. 3DMark06 Scored 4193
and Super PI took 48 seconds to do 2 million count. Size and Weight The laptop is light about 2.61 kg and is easily carried around so its very portable. Heat and Noise Under general use the laptop does get warm but nothing to worry about, when gaming it gets quite hot so it will be uncomfortable on your lap if you game alot. The fans are quite quiet i have found and do not cause any disturbance when on. Battery Life Under general use with a 6 cell battery i get around 3 hours 30 mins, I do not feel that a 9 cell would of been benefical to me. Software The software that came pre-installed was Roxio CD Creator and Windows Live. Accessories All that came was the power supply (it has a nice blue led on the power jack) Pros: Great Screen Fast Processor Light and Portable Long Battery Life Cons: No Activity LEDS Gets quite hot under Gaming Backlit keyboard not standard. Conclusion: A great all rounder laptop that should full-fill the needs of most, Not to over priced and has some good choices when configuring to buy.
