Then it's time to go through and clean out your system! My M170 has been running warm just idleing. Start up a game and keboard feels like it's going to catch fire! Looking at Fangui, I was hitting 80C on the CPU side, and 110C on the GPU side while gaming.
Idle was sitting at 44C CPU, and 60C GPU. Not good! I'm honestly surprised that my system just didn't straight up melt through my desk! But, this is testament that the 7800GTX and a pin-modded 1.7>2.26 can take the heat.
I took the thermite paperweight with me to work today, tore it down completely, and was just bewildered by how much dust was trapped in the heatsink fins. The fans were coated with dust, but weren't too bad. And the grills on the case just needed a good wiping.
Looking from the outside, you just can't see the amount of dust those fins are able to trap in the case.
Also while it was torn down, I re-gooped the GPU/CPU's (cleaning off the previous AS5), and then put the system back together. I'll admit, I'm not using AS5 this time around.
Instead, I bought some off brand stuff from the local computer boutique. After reassembly, Fangui was showing temps of 32C CPU and 38C GPU. Much better! Played some Call of Duty 2 and Gears of War and the system didn't even break a sweat! After 15 minutes of gaming, my M170 was running a fairly cool 55C CPU and 78C GPU!
Now I can finish CoD 2 tonight (beat it before, just going through it again before I start CoD4), and play some more GoW without the system crashing!
CoD2 is running buttery smooth at 1920x1200, max settings, and GoW is sitting on 1280x720 w/ max settings...no slow down in the intense fire fights, and the game just looks remarkable.
I'm having an issue where my E6500 w. NVS and P9600 CPU runs slow when it gets warm.
In a 30degC ambient room I only have to work the machine for a few minutes before the CPU slows down. I get an event log like -
Quote:
Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power Date: 21/02/2009 4:43:38 PM Event ID: 7 Task Category: (7) Level: Warning Keywords: User: SYSTEM Computer: PICOLTP04.picodon.local Description: The speed of processor 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.
After that the CPU is locked to 31% speed. If the load on the CPU continues it will get even slower.
You can also see this in Performance Monitor on Vista, or Resource Monitor on Windows 7, as below-
Temps in the system arent (IMO) getting too high, either-
Same thing in Vista SP1 x64 and Windows 7 Beta x64. Running the latest firmware (A11). On Vista I've tried running with and without all the Dell garbage and get the same result.
i got my new hdx and i decided to buy a game for it as well. I popped in warhammer:dawn of war 2 and it played well on mostly ultra-high settings. however the machine gets HOT after playing for about and hour. i also experienced this while playing crysis. it could have something to do with my cpu running at 45w but idk. anyways so i continued to play a little more warhammer and then i started seeing artifacts on my screen. before i knew it my screen was unviewable as the artifacts took over. I thought i was buring up my gpu so i quickly logged out of the game. my screen was still artifact filled so i turned off the computer and rebooted. everything seems to be fine till this moment and i think im very lucky. now i have my hdx raised up on all 4 corners with small business cards and i have my fan blowing at the bottom of the laptop from the right side. (This fan is blowing the same direction that the laptop fan blows). i also put my battery in front the of the fan so that would kool as well. so i decided to give warhammer another shoot. i played it for 2.5 hrs straight and the computer remains cooler that i expected. the battery too is way cooler. i would say my cheap cooling system worked after all.
I have my macbook pro getting pretty hot without much usage.
Eg. I am on integrated graphics right now and my cpu usage is roughly 30 percent (inclusive of system and user) and nothing is very intensive. Just a couple of firefox tabs in a firefox process, colloquy and itunes. I have about a 70 degree CPU temp and a 57 degree GPU temp on the 9400M.
It gets worse when I go on discrete and do the same things. My CPU often hits 80-90 degrees with my GPU being right htere at about 70. I'm pretty sure i need to get this checked out, but does anyone else have the same issue as me?
The grill on the left side of my Latitude E6400 gets extremely warm--especially when video is playing. The bottom side of the case, on the left side, gets very warm, as well. I've been able to confirm that the fan behind the grill on the bottom side *does* run periodically; however, the grill and underside remain very warm.
How warm? Right now, after playing a video for about 15 minutes, SpeedFan reports the following temperatures: GPU (162F), HD0 (109F), Temp1 (145F), Core 0 (140F), Core 1 (142F). All of the items except HD0 have a flame icon--indicating an abnormally-high temperature. Worse, I've seen the temperatures considerably higher than the above.
I've had this laptop for about five years. The latest BIOS and drivers are installed. It's working OK, otherwise. This problem started, suddenly, perhaps a year ago.
Just bought a Sony Viao 448 J/B the palm rest gets very warm almost hot when running. This is my first Viao so I'm not familiar with the normal symptoms.
I've been noticing that my computer's been running hot for some time now but am finally posting because I've been noticing that if the computer reaches a certain temp, it tends to throttle back which can be a bit annoying......................
Came to a point when I should completely restore the OS on my Acer Aspire 4752. Neither through Alt+F10 nor through eRecovery am I able to get around a Notice with the following "please complete operating system setup process before doing system recovery". There is only one option of this notice, that is to ok it and then the current Windows 7 Home Premium OS starts and I am not able to get out of this viscous circle. The OS works and is completely set up, so I do not understand what am I prompted to do. I see a number of postings out there, but no solution. Local Acer does not seem to know anything about the problem nor it's existence.
After rebooting my system I now come to a screen to enter system password. Only thing is.. I never set this and there is no way around it.I have tried the take battery out reset CMOS trick that used to work in desktops to no avail. Â This is the message I get after too many password attempts. Â system disable key 92931076
On my Pavilion dv6, a file (mobogenie/nengenie.dll) belonging to the Windows 7 system has been blocked by the anti virus/malware programn due to malware infection of this file. That is as it should be. However, pc peformance has been decreased (resources run out after 1 hrs use, lagging) as a result.  What do I do? Do I have to recover Windows 7 or have clean up of my hard disc, and how?
I have a hp envy m7j010dx with windows 8.1. Â it came preinstalled (windows 8) on a 1 tb hdd. Â I recently purchased a samsung 840 pro 250 gb ssd that i wouold like to make the system drive and make the original drive my data drive. Â confused on how to do so. Â want it fresh not clone. all i can find is restore or backup stuff. Â i just want to put the original computer on the new drive.
I just purchased a new Pavilion m7-1015dx Laptop and need to make the System Recovery Discs ... (which I realize restores the Laptop to factory default).. btw, I've already created the System Repair Disc.  However, I read an article about creating a System Backup Image that allows you to Recovery EVERYTHING if lost, all your installed programs, etc.  First Question ::: if I do the System Backup IMAGE ... Do I still need to create the System Recovery disc's (mfg's default) also??  The Second Question ::: If I create the System Recovery discs do I still need that Recovery Partition ??  I am really really wanting to partition my C: drive ... it's huge plus I hate seeing storage folders intermingled with system folders .. Currently using a Symbol/Character to separate them.  As of now, I can't partition the C:drive as all partitions are used.. max is 4 and I've got 4 .... C:drive,  System Partition,  HPTools Partition, and  Recovery Partition.
I have an Ideapad Y510P with 24G SSD and Windows 8.1. I uninstalled the Express cache by a mistake. So I want to re-install it. Unfortunately, the install program told me that I need to reboot the system even I tried to reboot or shut down the system several time.
So after having my motherboard replaced twice, and now in need of replacement a third time, I have been granted a System Exchange. From reading posts around the interwebs and here in NBR, I have come to the conclusion that I will most likely be getting a Studio XPS 16, or, more specifically, the XPS M1640. I asked specifically for the RGBLED 1080p display (My XPS m1530 had the WUXGA screen) as well as the Radeon 4670. That aside, I wanted to ask those of you that have gone through this process how you tracked the progress throughout the course of the exchange. I can see on my Dell account the support ticket, and that it is now Closed-Assigned. Does that mean I shouldn't be tracking this support ticket, and instead should be looking for an order to pop up under Order Tracking?
I have a Dell inspiron 3800; recently I when I opened my laptop I see a message that says:
Windows no se ha podido iniciar. El siguiente archivo falta o está dañado WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM
It ask me to introduce the CD-Rom original; but I buy this laptop 5 years ago with all the papers but without this CD; what can I do in this situation? Also I'm not sure what version was instaled on the laptop.
I have made a new install of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I then install "Dell System Software" which is found under "System Utilities" on their driver page. I reboot the system, and then windows gets an error and won't start. I have the newest BIOS installed.
I've never gotten a system exchange before, so I'm kind of nervous.. Currently I have a Dell XPS M1530 C2D T8300 (2.4 GHz) 4 gigs RAM 250 gb HDD 8600m Will I get another XPS M1530 and, if so, is my hardware likely to be the same or better? Any chance that I'll get the XPS 16?.
I am in a bit of a tango in the head over which OS I should pick for my Mini 9 - Windows XP SP3 OR Linux? Only 1GB maximum is available to the XP system while 2GB max is available to Linux.
I have an Inspiron with Vista Home Premium that won't boot and the "restore to shipped conditions" options doesn't work. I need to reinstall the OS but have lost the disk - HOWEVER I do have the disk off a Vostro that I own which is labeled Vista Home Basic.
My question is whether I can use the Vostro's disk to reinstall on the Inspiron (whose product key I have), and if so would I end up with Basic or Premium?
Anyone else here that has been bitten by the L4D bug? I started playing this game the same day the demo was released, and immediatley bought it when the full game was released. I was hooked.
Not only was it one of the most awesome games out there, my hardware loved it. I could play 1280x800 with everything on high, and blast 80fps on average. Never did I see it drop below 60 fps - dozens of zombies on fire? No problem.
Then the game update came out... Rendering the game unplayable on my hardware. I got hit bad by the performance bug, really bad.
dell comes with alot of crapware? And that they ussualy always do this when they get their machines, should I do it? How much of a difference does it make?
If so anyone kind enough to do a step-by-step guide how to for dumbies like myself?
system.exe error message keeps popping up. I think it is a Trojan. I cannot clean it from the machine. It bogs down Adaware,
I can't install AVG or Avast on the infected laptop. I managed to clean it with Adaware, but it came right back.
I found several mentions of Ending Process in Safe Mode, but this did not work. I tried to format the drive and reinstall windows, but it wont erase the partition with XP on it
I have a Dell E6400 and have had it for about a year and a month. recently it has started acting up.
The computer is fine until I log into my account in Windows XP. Then Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager freezes while attempting to load. If I try to open any internet browser that freezes too.
Windows Media freezes when I try to open it. And if I try to scan my computer using AVG the whole system freezes. Can someone give me some hints on what may be the problem?
I was thinking too much memory usage or something. I opened task manager and I had 75 processes running. Would a clean install of XP solve this problem or is there another root cause?
