It's possible the drivers already do such a thing... is there such a thing as underclocking or undervolting the GPU for the sake of cool temperatures and longer battery life, when simply at the Windows desktop?
I have a XPS 1530M with the 8600GT graphics card and sometimes it's a lot hotter than I'd like it to be simply web browsing. For that kind of thing, heck, it could be clocked at 1/10th the speed and still perform just fine.
I've been trying to overclock my Geforce 7900 GS Go for about two days now. I've been using these boards as a resource, but now I've hit a very strange wall and I hope someone can help.
I flashed the bios using Julanu's Method and I made sure to determine what revision I had. Everything there worked fine, but when I tried to use ATITools to find my max frequencies, the program eventually forced them down and KEPT THEM THERE.
"I Clocks level 2 set to: 0.03 / 100.00" and it never switched to try another frequency after 12 hours of running. To make matters worse, I couldn't change them back to normal after aborting the test! nTune reported the same results; the slider bar was unmovable. Essentially my attempt to overclock seriously undercocked my card!
So I uninstalled the drivers, reflashed, reinstalled and tried rivatuner. Everytime I attempted a change, the settings jumped back to stock. Then when I restarted my laptop it uninstalled the graphics drivers! Now as I try to reinstall the Dell drivers (the old ones that allow for nTune), it won't install because the it claims that the setup can't continue because it "can't locate drivers that are compatable with my current hardware." Pretty sweet since its a driver made for this by dell and nvidia...
Even when everything was working, I was never able to use nTune because I don't have at least an nForce2 Mobo.

They usually give errors about a unsigned driver installing but I boot with signed driver checking disabled. Has anyone been successful over/underclocking the gpu on a fw490?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently picked up an open item + refurbished dm3-1039 from my local MicroCenter for $362 after tax It's the model that comes with the Athlon Neo L335 (dual core, 1.6) and the HD 3200 with something like 256 or 384 of sideport memory. It's a nice little machine, definitely performing beyond my expectations, but because I have 7 days to figure out if I want it or not, and upon return, anything broken wouldn't seem too strange (since it was already returned once), I decided to take her out for some fun before making my final verdict.
Underclocking
So, I've seen a bunch of various significant and insignificant results from underclocking this genre of AMD chip. The biggest gains were on the dm2's MV-40 chip, which is a single core. People were seeing gains in the neighborhood of 30 minutes if they ran it "speedstep'd" down to 800mhz and undervolted. I'm not that guy...I can't be happy unless I'm going fast, but I figured I'd give undervolting a shot to see if I couldn't hit an official 6 hours. Unfortunately, I couldn't undervolt for squat. Undervolted for .075 gain, and it wasn't really even noticeable to pay off for the potential stability issues.............
I've recently gotten my whole system board replaced by HP repair because my 8600m gs failed after 1 year of use. Is there any way I could underclock my GPU? The idle temps seem pretty high (50c!). Are there any other ways to cool it down or to make the life the GPU longer? Are the replacment GPU's also faulty?

-Download SetFSB
-Choose SLG8SP513v pll
-Click get FSB
-To underclock, select 100mhz (1.2ghz)
-To overclock, select 166mhz (2.0ghz)
Note: This only works if you have SLG8SP513v pll clock generator. If you have ICS9LPRS365. According to the acer aspire one service manual, these 2 clock generators are used. Acer might have also added some pll clock generator to the list, so it might not work for newer acer aspire one.
Undervolt Intel Atom processor
-Download CrystalCPUID
-Lock multiplier by either disabiling speedstep or enable speedstep to restricted the processor to 6x multipler (1.6ghz).
-Lower or increase the processor voltage
Overclock Intel GMA 950 graphic card
-download gmabooster
I'm trying to underclock my laptop, but am not too successful. At the moment I am trying my luck with SoftFSB. Anyone have any tip on what clock generators I could try for a Turion based system? I have the 780G/SB700 chipset. (It's an Acer 5536G).

I tried changing settings in Lenovo Energy Management, Catylist Control is up to date, Bios is at 3.0, Amd Overdrive doesn't change anything beside GPU for me, whenever I try to adjust processor settings, it just goes back to what it was before. Temps are are 57C, but show 100 in HW monitor which it says for everyone.

I have a Dell Latitude E6530 and when I plugged in my monitor and keyboard into the docking station, they were not recognized. But I can plug them into the laptop while docked and they are recognized.

my laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.
So my questions are:
1 is it a hardware issue ? if not, can I solve my problem easily ?
2 how can I change the boot priority order, to install mint ?

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen i first got my dell inspiron and it was all good. when i set the monitor to shut off after 1 minute of being idle, it did and would not turn on unless someone moved the mouse of pressed a button. however, after i reformatted, the computer monitor would shut off after 1 min but soon afterwards it turns on again by itself, then it goes off again, then it remains on permanently. i recently formatted my laptop again and this problem persists. anyone knows whats sup? im using xp ftw... and my configurations are the same as it was before the reformats so idk whats wrong.

View 9 Replies View RelatedDell Inspiron 6000 notebook to boot up and stay unfrozen long enough for me to retrieve my files, and put them on my tower pc.
In a nutshell, I got this Inspiron about 3 years ago- I currently have it connected to an external monitor, because my wife dropped a heavy object on the screen last year, and destroyed said screen.
Just this past week, I turned it on, and it started getting really slow. Finally, it got to a point where now, when I turn it on, it boots up, it goes to the desktop, the desktop icons all appear, and within a minute or two, it just kind of slows down, and eventually freezes up, and the hard drive indicator light quits doing anything. It does not respond to anything, and the only way to restart it, is to hold the power button down until it resets.
If anybody knows of a thread already on this site, regarding this problem, please point me in the right direction, as I tried the search function, and did not come up with anything.
and one or two other things, since it initially started having problems, sometimes, I will get two "missing module" error boxes pop up- and also, while it is booting, the screen flashes black for about 3 seconds, and then comes back on and continues to load.
Thank you very much to anybody who could possibly help me out of this jam. I really do not plan on using this laptop (or notebook) anymore, if and hopefully when, I get my files off of it.
And that is the other problem, I can not attempt to boot up in safe mode, as my screen is busted up, and it will not output to my external monitor, when I hit the f key while it is starting. I did make a couple different bootable cds, but they do not seem to do anything.
I enjoy gaming, although I wouldn't consider myself a "hardcore" gamer. I currently have 1024 MB of RAM (2 x 512) and I am looking to upgrade soon. My options are as follows:
- Dell certfied RAM
- PNY RAM
- Kingston RAM
- Corsair RAM
Of course, for the Dell RAM, I have to wait for the shipping, but it is one of the cheaper ones. However, any of the other three I can pick up at Best Buy (which is more convenient). Can someone point out the pros and cons of each? It seems the PNY is a great buy, but could there be performance problems compared to the others? And why is the Kingston so expensive?
I purchased an Inspiron 14z a few months ago and it has been working fine until recently - upon starting up, it freezes at the dell logo screen. I have searched for posts regarding this problem and have found no solutions that work for me; I've tried pressing F2 and F12 but no keystrokes will register.

I purchased this Mini to be in touch on an extended personal and business trip in Central America. Dell was exceptional in delivering the unit before I left, even though the promised delivery was after my departure. While away the Mini let me keep up with email and browse for information vital to the trip. The machine worked exactly as expected with no glitches. Bonus points for how easy it was to get the Minithrough security in American airports- an unexpected pleasure. Two of my colleagues and travelling companions were impressed - kept borrowing the Mini and will likely acquire one for travel.
