View 6 RepliesI recently purchased a G2 HP 250 Notebook (F0Y78EA) with SO Freedos.I installed Windows 7 32-bit.I noticed that the three USB ports (two 2.0 and one 3.0) do not work.Usb device is not detecting . In "Device manager" usb controller is showing in other devices.Windows Update can't find the driver.I tried to download some drivers from HP with no result.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend's macbook (white plastic, 2.0, napa/core2 before santa rosa platform) isn't starting, and I have no idea why. He initially asked me to replace the top and bottom casing. I accepted, and ordered the parts. Around the time they were supposed to come, I took the computer apart completely (required for the repair), but one of the parts was delayed, so the computer sat splayed on my desk for a week. I didn't exactly stack textbooks on it, but it also wasn't covered in anti-static wrap. So, now, I finally got the part and put it back together, and the computer doesn't start. At all. The screen doesn't go grey, the 'sleep' light doesn't turn on, the fan doesn't start - nothing. The magsafe light is green, so the power is going in. It's also worth noting that I have no battery for it, so it's all on A/C.
Does anyone know what's wrong? My two hypothetical solutions are (a) I need a battery, or (b) the logic board is dead due to static.
How likely are each of these scenarios - especially the logic board one? How possible is it that it was static overloaded?
I’ve just purchased an Acer Aspire E3 112 that came with Windows 8.1 with Bing. I have a good bootable USB stick with 14.04 on it, from which I have installed several times on different machines. Here’s what I did:
Created unallocated space on the HDD within Windows
Booted from the USB
Clicked on "Install"
Chose "Something else" in the next dialog
Created a / partition, a "Home" partition and a Swap area.
Clicked on "Install"
The install went just like any other install that I’ve done over the last few years. When it finished, I clicked on the "Restart" button. The machine restarts, and goes straight into Windows. No sign of the Ubuntu install at all.
If I examine the HDD in Disk management within Windows, there are no formatted partitions in the unallocated space at all. (I’ve tried the same procedure both with Ubuntu 14.04 and Xubuntu 14.10 - both had the same result). Windows 8.1 with Bing is no different at all to “normal” Windows 8.1 ....
just moved to BD+ and my Power DVD 7.3 can't handle it anymore and I'm getting really frustrated with trying to get my blu rays to work. Cyberlink is a terrible company probably run by like 3 guys. The customer support is awful and I can't get anything to work anymore. I'm begining to think that getting blu ray on laptops was a bad idea. WHo knew they were going to change things on a month to month basis.

I'll explain what I did to try fix it. I'd took out the HD, and tryed turn it on in SATA/USB adapter. But my Desktop doesn't Recognized the Removable Disk! (The adapter is working I tested with other HD) I'd tryed boot without HD. I'd tryed to put other HD with Ubuntu that I have working.I'd tryed boot with WinCD (XP/VISTA/7). Didn't work either. My BIOS lists the CD-ROM Drive but didn't anyone of HDs that I installed then.
The START is ever the same. Doesn't matter what I do, the "HP Start BOOT Screen" load, enter in a black screen and doesn't load the OS.
just bought my wife a new pavilion dv4-1225dx. it goes in to hibernate and won't wake up - anyone run in to that one?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI erased the free space on my hard drive because it OS X claimed it was full even though it wasn't. I was forced to quit at the end while it was stalled at "Creating temporary file" for 3 hours. I restarted the computer and this was the result:
YouTube - MBP boot attempt
It boots to the login screen, gives me a warning that the hard drive is full, allows me to log in, but then doesn't load any icons, the dock, or the menu bar. Key commands like cmd-shift-Q still work to log out and stuff.it didn't switch from the login image (that graffiti thing) to my desktop background, which is a jungle cat of some sort, but the mouse cursor still works, as you can see in the video.
my Acer Aspire R7 dosn't have an Operating System. I was wondering if there is a way to get one on it. If there is, is it easy?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to replace the DC jack in my Inspiron 9300 and it appears to work correctly. Plug a battery in and it charges just fine. However when I turn the computer on it does not POST (or beep in any way at all). I turn on the power, the fans spin up, the HDD spins up, and then about 5 seconds later it all just shuts down. Ive tried taking the HDD and the RAM out to try and get some sort of beep code and i get nothing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I've had the laptop since Aug 2007, works great, specs in sig. Only have one problem with it. the laptop likes to punish me. It shocks me. Literally shocks me. I think it's where the paint as worn off on the base. Around the corners, the bottom, ect. If I have it on my lap I need to make sure I don't wear shorts. I can feel a slight amount of electricity sting my legs, or forearms. It's a slight stinging sensation. Anyone else experience this? It's been going on for a little while. I thinking the only fix would be to A) repaint it or B) get a new base for it. Don't really want to repaint it as it might look crappy. Other than HDD issues from time to time, I've never had a problem with it and it's still my main computer.
Anyone else encounter this? Could it be that I have a pinched wire thats exposed and making contact with the base? If any, I think it would be the monitor wires, I seem to recall them being nicked and exposed.
After I turn on the power, the harddisk led doesn't turn on, just the CAP and NUM led flash once. The screen doesn't turn on, even the Acer logo doesn't appear. I can hear something is turning inside the notebook, but it's definitely not the harddisk.
I wonder if I had pressed some wrong buttons, and disable the notebook.
Today I opened (only by removing the bezel) it up and saw the connector that was making to problem. I took out the screen to have a better look at it. I did this by simply unplugging one cable. I had a look at it and put it back in. During the process I saw the power indicator flash. Then when I turned it on after reinserting the screen, the laptop did not turn on at all. Also, the power indicator doesn't light up either.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Sony Z with 256GB of SSD. Now, Windows 7 doesn't recognize the drives as SSD, because the Defragment options are available. Windows should have known that there is a SSD drive installed and disabled Defragment. (I have another laptop with Intel X25 and this is the case)
I'm concerned that something is wrong with my drive and this is why Windows 7 doesn't see the drives as SSD.
I have my MBP set to put the screen to sleep after 5 mins of inactivity and system to sleep after 10 mins.
This works fine when not plugged in, but when connected to the power the screen goes to sleep but not the computer.
I am not running any apps in the background except Quicksilver...
BIOS reads the battery health as "Performing normally" and the charge at 100%.
but when I unplug the computer, it doesn't go to battery power, it just shuts off. Like there isn't a battery there.
Bought the battery off ebay, it's not a genuine Dell battery, but it worked great.
Trying to run a D620 with a new harddrive, a 320 GB WD3200BEVT.
The 620 will say "a read error occurred, press Ctrl alt del to reboot" directly after post. I doesn't not attempt to load an OS.
In the BIOS:I made sure that the harddrive password protection thing is all off
In the device list the 320 GB drive appears, so it's not a mechanical problem
The drive works on a modern AM2 desktop.
So my laptop has been taking a crap lately. First the power supply broke and had to get a new one and now the battery is down to 30-40 minutes. I bought a 9 cell battery off ebay and just got it in. I plugged it in and the laptop says "Battery not recognized, will not charge." Whats up with it? Is there a way to get it charging? I don't have the money to buy the $200 battery from Dell.
View 10 Replies View RelatedEverything works fine except eSATA. I've tested in in Windows Vista 64bit and Windows 7 64bit. Same thing in both - the computer completely freezes up when it'd usually be detecting the drive after plugging in. I'm plugging in an external HDD that works fine on my other computer.
The other computer's using XP so that could make a difference. I'm more suspecting a Dell hardware or drivers issue though. I'd be interested to know if it's a problem everyone has and Dell will maybe fix it in a year or so. They've already released a BIOS update and I've got that; no change.
I have a m1330 and it doesn't fit in my expressCard/54 slot. I'm baffled, the specs say it should fit but it sticks out about 1/2" and won't go in all the way not matter how I try to jimmy it in.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo recently just sent my 1330 to get the mobo replaced for the first time after owning if for several months, got it back and had already ordered the copper shim for the now famous "copper mod".
So all is going well, slowly I start to notice that while plugged in the laptop slows down - to the point of a 20 minute boot up. Unplug it and run off battery and it instantly speeds up. After speaking to Dell they've concluded I need yet another mother board (having just got this one back a month or so ago.)
Anyone else having a similar issue? A tech is swapping it in the first half of this week...
Dell Studio XPS 13 Vista home preimum 32-bit TSST D633A dvd-rom. It worked fine new only a few months old and has quit working now it only reads commercial disc and not burned disc i.e.
dvd's, cd's, or data disc. Reinstalled windows, downgraded firmware and upgraded doenst matter D400 old to D10 and D20 neither work, also deleted upper and lower filters but nothing
I have read the entire guide, and even downloaded the 64-bit version driver( even though I'm running 64-bit Windows 7).
However, the damn program doesnt detect my CPU (P8700)! I have tried ticking "detect on startup", but it just doesnt recognize it!
Because of that, do you guys think it safe to go ahead and start undervolting anyways? Does anyone else have this problem
Hi here. 3:50 in the morning.
I was brave(stupid)enough to try to swich from vista to windows 7 tonight.
Windows 7 installation proram doesn't recognise my dvd drivers, and it asks for drivers before the actual installation begins.
I have a werid problem with my mouse. It like it has a mind of its own or doesnt respond when I use it.
I reinstalled the drivers and I am still having the problem.
Why does Dell play this whole game of "boxing"? Apparently they ship your finished product from Malaysia to the U.S., then after spacing out a bit they ship it to YOU.
Why not ship from Malaysia to the customer?? I ordered HP a month ago, they built it in 8 days (not "business days", human days).
And shipped it straight to me, then I received it 2 days later (with '5-7' day shipping)
Sometimes (not everytime, seems random) my laptop won't wake up after being put to sleep by closing the lid.
usually, I just have to tap the space bar a couple of times, and it wakes right up, but other times, there isn't anything that will wake it up ,and I have to shut it down (hold the power button for 4-5 secs) and restart it...
This is absolutely crazy. The laptop came back to me in worse shape than it was sent off. C drive was wiped, several very large scratches that were not there before, and the CD drive simply does not work. I tried loading in a CD-R at first, and it didn't recognise it, though it might be the CD. Having the CD in at startup actually slowed down the whole boot sequence immsenely.
Since then I've tried it with several different CDs, DVDs, whatever and none of them work. The DVD drive just chugs a long and never gets anywhere.
I can't afford to send this back to be fixed now because 3 weeks was an insane time for me to be without a laptop. How costly/difficult would it be for me to replace the DVD drive myself?
