Today I opened (only by removing the bezel) it up and saw the connector that was making to problem. I took out the screen to have a better look at it. I did this by simply unplugging one cable. I had a look at it and put it back in. During the process I saw the power indicator flash. Then when I turned it on after reinserting the screen, the laptop did not turn on at all. Also, the power indicator doesn't light up either.
View 8 RepliesI dropped my Sony Vaio VGN-AW125J laptop, my foot broke the fall, but a portion hit a table on the way down. My AC jack was banged up, so I ordered the part from Sony. My computer repair guy said that the new jack hasn't made a difference and still can't get power. He said it wasn't the operating system since he pulled out hard drive and it still doesn't power up. My original symptoms were when I powered it up, it would pretty much shut down after a few seconds.
Is there anything I can ask my computer guy to check before we trash it?
My laptop doesnt boot. when i turn it on, blue lights r shown for power and hard disk. but nothing on the screen. and it restarts by itself.

I'll explain what I did to try fix it.° I'd took out the HD, and tryed turn it on in SATA/USB adapter. But my Desktop doesn't Recognized the Removable Disk! (The adapter is working I tested with other HD) ºI'd tryed boot without HD. ºI'd tryed to put other HD with Ubuntu that I have working.ºI'd tryed boot with WinCD (XP/VISTA/7). Didn't work either.My BIOS lists the CD-ROM Drive but didn't anyone of HDs that I installed then.
The START is ever the same. Doesn't matter what I do, the "HP Start BOOT Screen" load, enter in a black screen and doesn't load the OS.
I erased the free space on my hard drive because it OS X claimed it was full even though it wasn't. I was forced to quit at the end while it was stalled at "Creating temporary file" for 3 hours. I restarted the computer and this was the result:

It boots to the login screen, gives me a warning that the hard drive is full, allows me to log in, but then doesn't load any icons, the dock, or the menu bar. Key commands like cmd-shift-Q still work to log out and stuff.it didn't switch from the login image (that graffiti thing) to my desktop background, which is a jungle cat of some sort, but the mouse cursor still works, as you can see in the video.
My friend's macbook (white plastic, 2.0, napa/core2 before santa rosa platform) isn't starting, and I have no idea why. He initially asked me to replace the top and bottom casing. I accepted, and ordered the parts. Around the time they were supposed to come, I took the computer apart completely (required for the repair), but one of the parts was delayed, so the computer sat splayed on my desk for a week. I didn't exactly stack textbooks on it, but it also wasn't covered in anti-static wrap. So, now, I finally got the part and put it back together, and the computer doesn't start. At all. The screen doesn't go grey, the 'sleep' light doesn't turn on, the fan doesn't start - nothing. The magsafe light is green, so the power is going in. It's also worth noting that I have no battery for it, so it's all on A/C.
Does anyone know what's wrong? My two hypothetical solutions are (a) I need a battery, or (b) the logic board is dead due to static.
How likely are each of these scenarios - especially the logic board one? How possible is it that it was static overloaded?
After I turn on the power, the harddisk led doesn't turn on, just the CAP and NUM led flash once. The screen doesn't turn on, even the Acer logo doesn't appear. I can hear something is turning inside the notebook, but it's definitely not the harddisk.
I wonder if I had pressed some wrong buttons, and disable the notebook.
My 1 year old Acer Aspire 9920 suddenly stopped working yesterday for no particular reason. It seems dead.
When I turn it on, the lights go on as they should but the screen doesn't at all. Then it just does nothing anymore.
I tried using an external monitor, the screen still doesn't turn on.
I also tried starting from a cd but it seems as if the notebook doesn't get into the POST far enough to do so.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Acer laptop died on me sometime last year, I tried to fix it, had somebody who is more techie than me look at it and we couldn't fix it. He managed to get all the data off but couldn't get it to boot up.
My brother recently had a similar problem with his desktop computer so he told me to put an XP disc in and change the BIOS so it booted from the CD ROM.
I have done this and it wont boot. It doesn't seem to recognise there is a disc in there.
When it loads, the Windows XP screen comes on, then a blue screen flashes up, can't read what it says as it doesn't stay on long enough, then the Acer screen comes up then the screen asking if you want to start up in safe mode etc comes up, if I select start as normal or from last know good configuration, it just keeps looping but if I select safe mode, a huge list of drivers comes up then it turns itself off.
I have tried to do the built in recovery but it doesn't work, just stays on please wait for hours.
i'm having a issue with my santa rosa mbp. I left for dinner and left my notebook on. Naturally the machine went to sleep. After i came back the machine would not boot up, the screen doesn't even turn on. The light on the latch release remains on. When i try a hard reboot, i'm having the same issue. Black screen, doesn't even get to the grey screen with the apple logo. I've tried going on 1 dimm or ram to see if it's a issue with the ram and still doesn't fix it.

I've taken it apart and tested the memory, all the connections, reseated the processor (yes I used arctic silver) and it never gets past the 'one time boot menu', the diagnostic boot freezes but I CAN get to the very complex BIOS version A16.
So, I bought a new MOBO thinking that would solve the boot issue but it hasn't-it's doing exactly the same thing. may indicate the problem-Dell calls this an "OPTION ROM", may be 'unseated' or the system board is bad.
What is "Option ROM" and how can it be reseated? Are there any other things I can do in BIOS to change this? I also replaced the SATA CDROM and the hard drive, and I know the USB port works okay but nothing will boot from them.
I bought a new HP 15-r022tx Notebook PC  just 15 days back . It has now started giving problems when booting. The screen goes blank during the boot the wifi lights and the other lights blink. I don't know why a brand new notebook should have this issue.Â
Mostly its an indication of improper RAM or Hard disk . I have an ADP. Do i go for the replacement of this piece.? Also on searching on the internet i  have found this issue very common among the HP laptops. Is there any setting that i might be missing?Â

Every time I boot it up, I see the Hp logo appear and then go away after a few seconds like usual but instead of seeing the Windows logo, theres just a blank black screen command prompt and nothing happens at all. I did a self hard drive test and memory test in bios and they both passed. I tried going into the system recovery option on startup and it does the same as when I start it up and go to that blank command prompt.
I would boot from USB but the USB device doesn't appear in the list of bootable device.... I also upgrade my bios to the latest version: A02 but it doesn't solve the problem.... What could I do?
Also I was thinking to upgrade using a bios of similar model like the XPS 15z, could give problem use a different model bios?
I've attempted updating my XPS 1640 BIOS to A11 in my notebook.
It hanged up at the half of it (it said "Erasing block 16 of 32") and after waiting for 1 hour, I restarted the computer...
Now it doesn't start up, when I press the power button, the 3 volume keys start to blink for some seconds, then the keyboard light turns on, and the computer turns off after a couple of seconds.
My laptop doesn't want to boot...the screen backlight comes on but nothing else happens. The light that I think means HDD access blinks but the fan doesn't come on it just doesn't do anything. What tips can I get from the pros?

When I press F11 I imediately get a screen that says Windows Boot manager on top and and error : 0xc000000e and required device is inaccessible.

Discharge laptop: No result
Use different wall outlet charger: No result
Swap RAM: No result
Use PSA: No lights and display
Use battery status: No lights even not plugged in!
I'm trying to fix my fathers laptop so he won't have to spend money on a new one. Here's the problem:
When I press the power button to boot the laptop it does not boot, it just flashes the power light(s) on and off at maybe 1 flash per second. I've tried removing the RAM-sticks one and one, removing the HDD, removing the battery and removing the DVD reader (not all at the same time, of course). None of those helped, it still did the same thing.
Then I tried to blind flash the bios from a CD, the laptop comes on with the fan at full blast, the DVD reader comes on and it stays on, but it never finishes and powers off.
I have the following problem with my computer, lenovo sl 510: when pressing the power button, the computer won´t boot. On the display you can see a black background, in the upper right corner the intel emblem and in the lower left corner you can see "thinkpad". I cannot enter the bios and nothing works. We´ve tried already to press the power button a few times to reset the computer. Didn´t work as well. The keyboard doesn´t accept any hot key combinations.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a recent Inspiron 7720 laptop, with Win8 pre-installed. It seemed to be installing some updates, when it shut down(with them having installed only 35%). When I attempt to power on, it passed the Dell logo screen, then sticks FOREVER (doesnt load the w8OS apparently). I tried the battery out-in trick - doesn't work.
If I press F2, it guides me to BIOS (Phoenix A10) Disabling secure boot and starting Legacy mode has NO IMPACT WHATSOEVER, exactly the smae startup issues but without the "F12 Boot Option)
If I press F12 during logo screen, it takes me to "F12 Boot Options", which is a black screen with an empty progress bar in the middle(apparently this should have the option to run a PSA diagnostic but it DOESNT SHOW ANYTHING!)....
I bought my E15 without dvd-r, I cant access to the bios pressing F2.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing very strange problem with my Dell Vostro 3750. This machine is equipped with USB 2.0 capable USB ports and USB 3.0 capable ports. During the power-up any USB devices (or even multiple devices via hub) can be connected to the USB 2.0 capable port. However if even a single device is connected to one of the USB 3.0 capable ports, the system doesn't start.
I've reported the problem on the Linux kernel related lists: 59561
But the only answer was, that I should report it to Dell suggesting fixing of BIOS. Maybe this is a BIOS related problem, but Windows 7 starts on the same hardware configuration without problems.
As I'm mainly using Linux for my work, two USB ports are practically useless for me, I have to connect all my USB stuff via hubs to USB 2.0 ports.

I have had the HP 620 laptop for about a year now , Recently upgraded it to windows 8 . So... as soon as i open my laptop , everything is fine and the wifi works and everything is basically normal , but when i use the laptop for like 10 min , the wifi randomly shuts off and tells me that i need to connect via an Ethernet cable, and when i do connect to ethernet cable it works . I am on windows 8.Â
