I have a Dell 5720 and in the summer, its motherboard and keyboard got replaced due to short circuit problems. Since then, every time I press the Power button, the laptop starts to load correctly but suddenly turns off during the boot process. If I press the Power button on a second time, the laptop loads perfectly.
I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed and the booting process reaches the grub where I can select in which one I want to boot. I can even select something from the list, but then the laptop turns off (not because I select something, but I think because I have a few seconds before it shuts down). If I turn it on again, everything is fine. I can select anything from the grub's boot list and it won't turn off. It boots into any desired OS and works like there's no problem
I've just run hardware diagnostics and all tests passed. One of my friend said that it has a driver problem because the motherboard got replaced and this is why it's shuts down the first boot.
Another observation: if I do this 'twice turn-on' boot and use my laptop for a while and I turn it off and I turn it on again in a short time after the turn off, it boot correctly.
in February 2013, I bought 2 Inspiron R17-5720 in Amazon. Now, in both laptops, it is impossible to boot the machine.
When I power on, appears the Dell logo and nothing more.
I run the CD Utilities and I got the following message:
Error code 4C00:0320
MSG:SYSTEM:CMOS failed the pattern test.
Wife has a Dell Inspirion E1505 that keep freezing on the Vista boot screen. You know the one with the 3 yellow bars that just run across the screen right before you see you login name.
Well it just freezes and never gets past that screen. I walked her through reinstalling Vista over the phone and it boots from the cd and then loads all the drivers off of it and then goes to the Vista boot screen again and freezes..
I have a Inspiron 5720, when I power on all I get is a black screen with a repeating 7 beeps... What the problem is?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased my laptop a little over 2 weeks ago. After the first week I noticed that when I turn it on the dell logo will come on and then immediately go to a black screen. At that point I have to power off the back on and it boots normally. I flashed the BIOS to the A11 update but the didn't fix the issue.
View 10 Replies View RelatedOk, so I have this laptop (17R 5720) that I got in November. Um every time I turn it on, I get a blank screen just after the dell logo pops up.
I've tried taking out the battery and unplugging the adapter and holding the power button for 30 seconds and putting the battery back in. I've tried "D" + power, tried Fn + Power, tried F2 to get to the BIOS window, and I've tried F12 (which only got me to the Boot menu). Still nothing happens.
Don't know what else I can do. It looks like I only got limited access to technical support so I hope it's nothing major that I have to deal with.
Blue screen since I bought this laptop with windows 8 OS (3 months):
I already ran:
- Intel® Driver Update Utility
-Repair-install the operating system (Original Dell Image) for 2times
- All windows updates done
- Update the DELL BIOS version
- Ran DELL PC Check Up – Hardware Diagnostics
- Ran anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware, etc.
- Ran HW monitor to check temperatures, all normal
- Ran Advanced SystemCare 6 for windows optimization and registry fix.
… and the the blue screens didn’t stop!!!. Usually I get one for day.
Normally I get this blue screens even when laptop is notbeing run any program. By the details look that is related with an app. But theolder critical events sometimes don’t give so many details.
This laptop a bad historical. In less than 3 months alreadyhad two times the hard-disk replaced.
My Inspiron 17R 5720 laptop (which came with windows 8) was working fine yesterday but whenever I try to turn it on today it shows the Dell logo briefly then goes to a black screen and remains like that. The F12 key works, but I can't change any settings as it will only let me highlight the diagnostics option. I've run diagnostics and recieved no error reports. Neither the F2 or F8 keys work, so I can't access BIOS or start in safe mode. I've tried removing the battery and unplugging the power.
View 7 Replies View RelatedA couple hours ago I updated my BIOS from A13 to A14. The firmware update took successfully and everything was fine, I THOUGHT.
Now, every single time (not exaggerating) that I restart my computer the Dell Circular logo pops up for maybe half a sec, and screen goes blank. Lights on laptop do it's thing, I hear the dvd-rom set itself like usual but like I said, no loading ring under the Dell logo appears, the screen just goes blank. All I have to do each time is simply push the power button till computer turns off, and turn it on again. The second time around it works completely normal and loads into Windows.
This happens every time I do a restart from windows, a restart from BIOS settings, or if I turn the computer on after it's been off for a couple minutes. The Dell circular logo appears for maybe half a sec, than screen goes blank, I wait forever and it does nothing but all I have to do each time is push the power button, let pc turn off, and push power button again and it works until the next system restart and it does it all over again.
Won't be too much of a problem but it's aggravating that every time I restart the computer I just know i'm going to have to wait for the blank screen and push the power button to turn it off and back on.
All drivers were fully updated before I performed the BIOS firmware update from A13 to A14. Update took successfully.
I unplugged laptop, and took out battery for a little while to clear my RAM, but that did not fix the problem.
I always loaded BIOS setting defaults, still have the problem.
I have no CD/DVD in the ROM, nor do I have any USB devices, memory cards, or blue tooth device hooked to the computer.
Inspiron 5720 (all drivers updated)
BIOS Version A14
WIN 8 64-bit (fully updated)
CPU is i5 3210m
I have a 14z that I purchased last August with Windows 7. It freezes at the DELL logo, and I cannot even do a F2 or F12 to try and get to any of the advanced menus.
View 5 Replies View RelatedTried (and sometimes successful) to connect HDTV to laptop, Inspiron 5720. Now laptop screen does not display (goes black) without an external monitor physically attached. Tried using Projects and clicking on single laptop display, but if I disconnect the external monitor, the laptop screen just goes black. Not very portable if I have to lug around a second display.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have an Elitebook 8540w laptop. I wanted to upgrade RAM memory from 2x2GB to 2x4GB. I bought not a kit of 2x4GB as i wanted to, instead I bought two 4GB memory chips from HP.
After replacing the modules the laptop does not boot up.
What has been done:
- Bios Default Restore
My first question is: i realize it is better to buy a kit of 2 matched chips, but is it a must?
I have an Acer Aspire 7740-5691. The boot screen freezes with pixel distortion at the top. I've tried all the restore discs. I found where some people referenced a similar problem with other computers and they were fixed by resetting the bios. I can't figure out how to do that. There's no place for that in the boot settings option and there's no visible coin battery to temporarily remove to reset.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm having a issue with my santa rosa mbp. I left for dinner and left my notebook on. Naturally the machine went to sleep. After i came back the machine would not boot up, the screen doesn't even turn on. The light on the latch release remains on. When i try a hard reboot, i'm having the same issue. Black screen, doesn't even get to the grey screen with the apple logo. I've tried going on 1 dimm or ram to see if it's a issue with the ram and still doesn't fix it.

My Dell Inspiro N5050 is having a few troubles. It was running absloulty fine yesterday and now when I power up, it sticks just before the logon page at just the black screen with the mouse. It even does the same if I try to start it in safe mode. I have run a BIOS which comes back clean. Have also tried the power off and hold the on button for 20 seconds but alas, the problem. I'm unable to do a system restore and cannot find the optipn for a factory restore.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy friend's macbook (white plastic, 2.0, napa/core2 before santa rosa platform) isn't starting, and I have no idea why. He initially asked me to replace the top and bottom casing. I accepted, and ordered the parts. Around the time they were supposed to come, I took the computer apart completely (required for the repair), but one of the parts was delayed, so the computer sat splayed on my desk for a week. I didn't exactly stack textbooks on it, but it also wasn't covered in anti-static wrap. So, now, I finally got the part and put it back together, and the computer doesn't start. At all. The screen doesn't go grey, the 'sleep' light doesn't turn on, the fan doesn't start - nothing. The magsafe light is green, so the power is going in. It's also worth noting that I have no battery for it, so it's all on A/C.
Does anyone know what's wrong? My two hypothetical solutions are (a) I need a battery, or (b) the logic board is dead due to static.
How likely are each of these scenarios - especially the logic board one? How possible is it that it was static overloaded?
I have the following problem with my computer, lenovo sl 510: when pressing the power button, the computer won´t boot. On the display you can see a black background, in the upper right corner the intel emblem and in the lower left corner you can see "thinkpad". I cannot enter the bios and nothing works. We´ve tried already to press the power button a few times to reset the computer. Didn´t work as well. The keyboard doesn´t accept any hot key combinations.

I bought a recent Inspiron 7720 laptop, with Win8 pre-installed. It seemed to be installing some updates, when it shut down(with them having installed only 35%). When I attempt to power on, it passed the Dell logo screen, then sticks FOREVER (doesnt load the w8OS apparently). I tried the battery out-in trick - doesn't work.
If I press F2, it guides me to BIOS (Phoenix A10) Disabling secure boot and starting Legacy mode has NO IMPACT WHATSOEVER, exactly the smae startup issues but without the "F12 Boot Option)
If I press F12 during logo screen, it takes me to "F12 Boot Options", which is a black screen with an empty progress bar in the middle(apparently this should have the option to run a PSA diagnostic but it DOESNT SHOW ANYTHING!)....
System is asking for password which is not known. how do I recover. Tried to download recovery file to usb from HP Website but can't get it to load from USB when turning on computer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I open the lid to the laptop and hit the power button, the 3 buttons on the top of the keyboard cycle through and the power comes on, but the only thing that happens next is the screen turns on with a slight brightness, but it doesn't load any further. It doesn't even load to the Dell logo. If I tap the power button again, all lights and monitor goes off with a beep noise.
I have taken the battery out, unplugged the power cord and held the power button for over 15 seconds. This did not do anything.
it's just stuck there, the blue progress bar doesn't show up, I tried pressing f8 but nothing appears. I have also tried draining the battery and recharging then rebooting but nothing happened. It is completely unresponsive. It used to work just fine, just last night I've been playing games and it was working smoothly. But when I woke up and booted up my laptop, nothing was working. By the way, what's the small button underneath the laptop, I think it is the master reset button, because my brother was thinking of pressing it.
